I have a couple dozen contacts that I’ve saved to the phone that Google is not synching with.
These are contacts I’ve added since the last time I backed up my phone to install the Revolution HD rom. Truthfully, Google didn’t back up all my contacts then either and I assumed it had so I wiped everything on the phone, installed the rom, resynched my contacts with Google and only had half of the contacts. What a pisser that was.
I don’t want to do this again so I Exported everything on my ‘phone’ to SD card. But the question remains; how come Google doesn’t see that I’ve added contacts to my phone and automatically back it up to my Gmail?
I have my Gmail set to auto synch and it shows the last synch was this morning. Nonetheless, I still have a couple dozen contacts on my phone that are not saved to google.
When you create a contact use Google and not the phone. This works for me, I don't miss any contacts when I flash a new ROM, even switching phones, all my contacts show up as soon as I sync with gmail.

That doesn't sound right.
I thought the whole point of the Gmail account and turning synch on was to synch your phone contacts to the Gmail account. Even Tmobile contacts does this...
I have added contacts on the phone ever since getting my Nexus One. And all my contacts have synced properly. The only reason I would go to the contacts list from gmail is to confirm that it had synced from the phone and also to add a pic.
Not sure why your syncing didn't pick up your changes from your phone. I have even restored my contacts from gmail because of conflicting syncing issues.

I find that there are SIM Contacts, Phone Contacts, and Google Contacts. My plan is that my official contacts are Google Contacts.
Do I need to have a data connection to see them? I don't want to count on a data connection being always there. Not quite sure how to proceed on this.
I find that not all of my Google contacts are on the phone if I select "Google contacts" only for contacts. I don't see a 'Sync' opton either.
Any thoughts?
on my current android device all of my google contacts sync and stay on my device. Mine is set up differently as I only have one set of contacts, but you shouldnt need a data connection once they've all synced unless you make changes.
Thanks.
So what are the thoughts about the fact that I have (maybe only 1) contact/s that are in my Google contacts, but not on the phone.
[edit]
I clicked the search, and found the contact. But the contact is no in my list. Only contacts I have displaying are Google Contacts. Maybe one thing I might need to do to be sure I don't get it all confused, is delete them from SIM and phone. But not sure how to do that, and be sure I don't delete from Google Contacts.
[EDIT2]
Well not having any luck. I tried adding another account (my wife's), but that won't work. Because there is no selection to synch calendar only. You must sync email. Don't want her email.
Looks like I need to hard reset the phone So, my next order of business is to figure out how to backup everything, so I don't have to do all the config again. Of course, what I don't know is if the restore will just bring the problem back, assumint the hard rest fixes my isse. I'll create a new post on backup topic.
Android/Sensation noob here.
Picked up my sensation two days ago. Under Settings/Accounts & Sync, I entered my information and synced by contacts, gmail, calendar, etc.
However, I noticed a problem with the sms not being identified, even though the sender was in my People. I thought maybe deleting the contact and resyncing would help. However, after I deleted it.... I can no longer get it back.
How do I redownload all the contacts? I've gone to the Accounts & Sync and tried syncing again, to no avail. Am I missing something? How do I get the People back?
Thanks!
EDIT - Nevermind. My Gmail/Google account was apparently very slow to update. It was showing all my contacts there. However, upon reloading the page today, I noticed that they are all *POOF* gone. So... back to square one.
If you deleted all of your gmail contacts you can still restore them. log in on your pc, go to contacts, & under more actions there should be a restore contacts option.
it's fairly new
Hello,
Since I got my Android phone ive synced my SIM contacts to my gmail accounts and whenever I add a new contact I save it under my Gmail account ( when asked by the prompt).
I have noticed Ive been losing some contacts and I have no idea why. It happened like 3 times before and today I did a factory reset and when I synced my gmail contacts I noticed most of the recently added contacts were not there, logged on to my gmail account and checked the contacts there and didnt find them either.
This is really frustrating. other than the fact that I need one of my contacts info for urgent reasons, Its really embarrassing to keep on asking for the same person's number over and over again. Theres this particular guy's number that my phone just wont keep, Ive lost 3 times already and today I lost it again.
Sorry for the rant. Why is this happening ? How can I fix it ?
save to PHONE AND DON'T SYNC WITH GOOGLE or download contacts to sim apk

Ill do that .
No one knows what causes this ;( ?
I sync contacts with Google and have never lost a contact. It sounds like it's NOT synching with Google, and that's the problem.
Try adding the contacts to Google via a browser and see if they appear on the phone. If not then you're not synching correctly and need to check your account settings on your phone. You certainly shouldn't lose any contacts if you add them that way anyway.
What's the deal with my contacts disappearing? Apparently there's a problem with google syncing my contacts but are they not backed up on the phone? Any ideas how I can get them back? They are in google contacts online but are not syncing to my phone.

I had this same problem as well, not sure how to fix it. It would sync about 3 or 4 of my contacts. Luckily I made a .vcf backup of my contacts before I installed a new rom.
I just had about 30 contacts disappear from my phone Wed night. I didn't jump online to see if they still existed in gmail before trying to sync my phone with Google. I didn't get them back on the phone and they were gone from my online contacts, but I did add the verizon shortcuts! Luckily I was able to restore contacts in Google from last week (2 and 3 days old didn't work for some reason). They immediately showed back up on the phone too.
I know I didn't do anything that would have caused this.

Hello everyone,
Here is something weird to me. Got this ZTE Axon 7 mini just the other day. It was running Android 6, so I tried to sync all my 360 google contacts, and each time it only syncs up to 250 contacts. I removed the google account, tried again a few times but still the same issue. I have tried a different contacts application, bu it didn't help.
So I did the update to Android 7, and same issue, it would only sync up to 250 contacts. Please help.
Forgot to mention, the contacts are clearly labeled as belonging to that gmail address. Also, inside the phone I can create more contacts that would belong to the google account. Seems to be a sync issue. I also tried turning sync off and on a few times and there is no error showing for the contacts sync option.
Other things I tried: disabled the contacts stock application and used a different one, erased cache, used a contacts sync fix application, nothing helped so far.
This one blew my mind: Exported all my contacts to vfc, they got imported to my google email on my phone, the phone ended up deleting some of my 360 contacts until I was down to 277. There are no contacts saved to the phone memory or sim card.
The other thing I am considering to try is to use a hammer...
