[Q] HTC Australian Nexus One USB charger (with AU plug) - Nexus One Accessories

Is there any store (online or in Sydney) that sells a HTC charger (with an Australian plug)? I want to know this because I have looked on eBay for Nexus One USB chargers (the wall charger where you can detach the USB cable), but I only found US chargers.

Any Micro usb 1.5A charger will do

Ok thanks, I will have a look on eBay. Right now I am using an Apple charger which takes 5 hours.

That probably has to do with the USB cable and not the charger. If I remember right, you have to short out the data leads of the usb cable for it to charge faster. The reason behind this is USB is not able to output the same amount of power as a regular charger, so when the phone detects the USB connection, it automatically does a slower charge. Whenyou short out the data connections, it prevents the phone from recognizing it as a USB charger.

Phone Charger

I ordered my Nexus One without a charger and was wondering if I could just use my iPhone USB charger with the supplied USB lead?
I'm guessing that's all the charger is right? Just a charger with a USB port or a miniUSB charger?
all nexus one orders come with a charger. They also come with a usb cable, back-slip carrying case, and a headset.
Not when you want it shipped to the UK.
It adds a charger to the basket so I just deleted it
If it is in the box I'm guessing I will still get the US charger and can just use an adaptor to use in the UK..
Actually I have used the apple iphone charger with usb cables to charge a BlackBerry 8900 and a G1. I would guess it would work for this, but its your phone and your money if you burn it out
yeah youll get a US charger then. In any case all USB chargers are the same. if you have any USB charger with a USB port, you can jsut connect your included USB cable to the charger.

this has micro usb i believe and the charger's you are talking about are all mini-usb. not compatible.
this is not true. the side that connects to the charger itself is still all regular USB. both mini and micro USB cables have the same pinout and electrical output standard.
i know. i'm saying that the end of the cable that plugs into his G1 will NOT FIT into the nexus one because it's MINI USB and the nexus one is MICRO USB.
thats not wat hes asking. hes asking if an iphone wall charger (which simply has a standard USB port on the other end) will work.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh sorry

i think your wrong with the "all usb chargers are the same"
my usb charger (micro usb) for my bluetooth headset will not charge a cliq, it its the same in appearance, but somehow it is actually different
however, the charging cable i had when i had a cliq charged my bluetooth, but I avoided it because it was obvious the 2 chargers where different.

correct. Certain chargers have different amp ratings. For example, GPS chargers generally require higher amount of amperage than cell phones, and certainly a lot more than bluetooth headsets
the g1 charger will not work with the nexus one. I have both phones. The behold II charger will work with a nexus one phone. my gf had the behold ii phone.

You mean plug-wise it won't work right? Because I just took my USB charger, took a Mini-USB to Micro-USB converter and used the G1 charger to charge the N1 and it works.
I'm not sure about the Nexus One but I know on the N900 you could have the problem of that charger not supporting the Data pins(D+ & D-) to communicate with the device and establish a power draw rate, in which case the charger won't work with the phone. The solution was either clipping the data lines in the USB cable, or shorting out the pins in the charger. I doubt the Nexus will be that picky about chargers though.
Usb Charger
Hi,
I just have ordered mine from US. I am from Europe and i will definitely have the problem with the originally supplied charger.
As i am aware all usb ports works with the same voltage - 5V., only amp rate is different. We just need the output amp rate of the original charger and have to be careful not to exceed it. The smaller amp rates are OK (just the charging time will be more.
For example in the originaly stated data from Google says:
"Power and battery
Removable 1400 mAH battery
Charges at 480mA from USB, at 980mA from supplied charger"
Just one to confirm is the original charger amp rate 980mA as Google stated?
I think you'd better to buy a new mobile phone charger for your nexus one for safety.
Just tested plugging the N1 in directly to computer using a miniusb cable w/ microusb adapter and works perfectly. It detected the phone and did that Mount SD notification. I mounted, transfered couple GB of files w/ no interruptions. Also, it charges it like normal.
Usb standard is 5V, most chargers with usb output should be 5V. The Amp is determined by the Voltage and (electrical)resistantce, check Ohm's law.
However the chargers are probably limited to a certain amperage(max amp output). All chargers I've seen have inscripted input and output values, as long as output values are within usb standards it should be ok.
I have an iphone car charger with usb out. It stays in the car and charges my family's gadgets no mather the manufacturer/type of device, as long as it supports usb charging.
So theoreticaly it should work. To be safe check the output values on the usb charger.
If n1 came with the american charger you can check the output values of that against the iphone charger output values.
Would a simple US 2-pin to UK 3-pin plug adaptor be fine?
The few gadgets I've got with US plugs I would just buy a UK version plug but since you cant just buy these in any shops (yet) will just have to wait and see what they supply first.
Anyone here with the US charger could you post the output values please

Can charger be used with other phones?

My charger that came with the SGS4G is not an official Samsung one. This is because I bought my phone used and it came with a 3rd party charger.
The charger is just a one-piece charger. I cannot remove the cable. It says:
AC Charger
Model: Micro USB
INPUT: AC 90V-240V
OUTPUT: DC 4V-8V
Can I use this charger with other phones that charge over MicroUSB? Do I need to make sure the other phone can handle 4V-8V?
Also I intend to buy another charger as backup, but I have this adapter which I plug in my USB cable into and then it goes to the power outlet. When I used this, my phone acted very erratic, swipes would not register correctly, phone became unstable, etc. Any reason for why this would happen?
It's sounds like your generic USB charger, and should charge anything that would charge if you were to plug it into a computer's usb port. I have a belkin usb plug, except it has a usb port on it instead of a cable, and it charges everything, even PS3 controllers lol.
Who makes this charger? If it's a super cheapo, the power may be dirty and may cause your phone to act funny.

Yes and yes to the first two questions but it normally isn't a problem depending on what is charging.
To the third, I had that same problem with my ZuneHD and a generic manufacturer's cable and I still don't know why.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
The major issue is "are the data lines shorted together?". If they are not, your phone (and other devices that use USB for power) will see it as a simple USB port and limit draw to what a PC USB port can supply (not much).
There are also some ways (particular resistors used across... pins 1 and 3?) to indicate how high the charger can go.
Most of the USB car chargers (at least the ones with USB ports) do NOT do this, so they take forever to charge a phone.
Easiest way to tell: with the charger charging, go into device settings. If it says "Charging(AC)" you're good; "Charging(USB)" not so good.

[Q]Charging using USB

When I connect my P6200 using usb, it doesn't charge, instead, there is an 'x' symbol at the battery. Is this normal? Because using my Galaxy Ace, it charges when usb is connected. I'm asking this because I'm trying usb tether for the first time, but in this case if it doesn't charge, it means that I can only usb tether until my battery has depleted and I would have to recharge again to be able to tether.
Yup. Usb is not able to charge tab and ipad. Need to plug to wall for charging
Sent from my GT-P6200 using XDA Premium App
Actually it does charge. More of a trickle charge tho. If the screen is off, then it will trickle charge a bit faster.
If the tab is connected via USB, will it at least be able to sustain itself via the USB power?
So if your battery is on 50%, and you keep the tablet on and are using it. Will it at least stay on 50% and not decrease slowly?
Samsung puts a resistor in their chargers so the tablet can distinguish between a Samsung brand charger and all other chargers.
The tablet will not charge (or use power from) any USB port except the wall adapter. (lame Samsung... really lame...)
You can buy adapters (or make them)
There's more info for creating an adapter yourself in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845844
Just like the GT-P1000, P6200 is charging over the usb port of any pc, only when it is turned off. But anyway the charging process is much longer. Very useful when you don't heave the travel adapter with you.
i use this usb cable it work
It pulls a Max of 500mA from the USB or unknown charger. This will charge a tab plus with the screen off that isn't doing much. It will pull 1500mA from the Samsung wall charger.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
My Plus charges normally from PC via USB. Icon shows 'x', but still in charging process anyway. It takes longer time but for those who tether should be ok and Plus should stay at least on the same level of %. I have unoriginal cable bought together with car charger.
I purchased a micro USB charger adapter from ebay. It just plugs into the 30 pin port and I am able to use my cell phone charger with no problem at all. The cell charger puts out 1000ma and the tab plus recognizes it. Do a search for P6200 Micro USB Charger Adapter on ebay.
If you are determined to use a computer to charge the tab plus, you will need the adapter above and a dual USB A to micro USB B Y cable. It will plug into two USB ports on the computer and give you the 1000ma to charge the tab plus. This is the best solution without having power cables all over your desk.

HEllo, where can I buy this cable?
thanks

Hi
Im searching for a car charger for the nexus 4 that will charge the device even on navigation running...I now that the Motorola Rapid car charger was good with the galaxy nexus.I dont know if itS ok with the nexus 4 because on the LG charger it sayS 1.2A?I read that the Bracketron Universal Dual USB Car Adapte 2.1A will just work as AC charger if plugged in with a USB charging only cable...but i cant find those cable to order online here i Canada...and i dont wanna do it myself and modify a regular usb cable ...Soo if someone can help me it would be much appreciated.

You dont have to have a modded cable if your car charger already has the data pins shorted. Im using the motorola rapid charger too and it works fine, it will charge your phone as AC and give enough power to recharge the battery with navigation on. if you want something a bit better you can try this one , they ship to canada. My rapid charger broke so i bought it a few days ago. Reviews says the trident will give around 8-900mA, the moto charger outputs around 6-700mA.
I would only buy a premium brand here. If you see how no name mains adaptors are made... the risk of blowing up something expensive is just too big.
I wnent with the Sony AN-400 / 401, because it is rated at 1.2 amps exactly, is small, and was reported to work fine.
For some regulator disasters:
http://hackaday.com/2012/08/15/buying-cheaper-electronics-and-not-saving-money/ <- a USB car charger without components, putting 12 volts straight on USB.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi-b9k-0KfE <- teardown of imitation apple mains adapter, showing no output protection and very little gap between mains voltage and output circuit. Good info, but style of presentation is not my cup of tea.
So that is why I went with a premium brand.
that's one charger from one factory that some guy that didnt know what he was doing and ordered thousands, without testing them. He probably went for the 25 cent super deluxe model...

If you're into rooting and custom kernels, most of them have a fastcharge option where you don't need to have a special usb cable, or, attempt to short the D- and D+ lines.

There are some other brands that are good too but i like this one cause it's dual usb like my old moto rapid charger. If you dont need that you can get some smaller ones that will work just make sure they are well review and can output around 1A. The one that bfspider spider recommends is a good bet too since monoprice is pretty reputable store and will ship to canada.

You can try to mod this one in the mean time, just take it apart and attach the two data pins(they are the two middle ones). Solder is best but if you cant you can just use pilers and bend the pins until they touch. i did this with a few of my chargers too and it works to make them AC but it wont increase the output if its low to begin with.

FYI, this adapter should allow most existing "iPad" chargers (1.2A or higher) + any USB cable to work well with the Nexus 4.
The problem is that Apple products deviate from USB charging standards. As a result, most chargers try to be compatible with iDevices and also deviate from the standards. So when standard-compliant devices try to follow the standards, the chargers refuse to follow the standards, and the devices get upset with each other. Fortunately, they fall back and settle on a lower-power charging rate.
If you want to buy chargers that are very clear on what they support, check out MediaBridge (also available on Amazon).

The generic T-Mobile car charger available at T-Mobile stores charges just fine. I believe it is at least 1 amp. Its black, has a purple white small led indicator when charging. The USB end looks like a little block and the cord is an accordion type and it also has a a female USB slot in it to plug something else in at the same time but I believe whatever USB cord you plug in there only charges at .5 amp. With this charger I can run navigation and Bluetooth and Pandora and message at the same time and it will charge.

Galaxy s5 2.1A car charger not working

I recently got a new Galaxy s5 on contract. I've heard that the galaxy s5 supports fast charging with a 2.1A charger. I bought a 2.1A car charger online, but the charger doesn't work when I connect it via a regular micro-USB cable to my phone. My brother's Galaxy s4 mini charges fine on it.
I was reading something on another post mentioning the need to modify the cable itself?
Any suggestions? I have another USB car charger for an iPad, and this charger also doesn't seem to work, whereas my old 1A car charger does work, but charges very slowly.

I havent tested with my Galaxy S5, but previously I had "noname" chargers and cables, and they worked fine with my HTC One S, but didnt work with my GF's Galaxy S3.
Samsung might have made devices more "sensetive" to crap products. Try different cable (try original USB cable that came with ur phone and the charger you bought).
I tried original USB but to no avail. Perhaps this has something to do with this:

The problem is most generic car chargers are designed to work with Apple products. Apple uses a non-standard way of telling their devices essentially "hey, I'm a charger." This makes "standard" devices not recognize the charger properly. The device tends to think it's plugged into a computer and only draw around 500mAh.
You can convert a USB cable into a charging cable by shorting the data pins (on the device side), or you can buy charging only cables. I've been using these cables on my S2, and now my S5: http://amzn.com/B007F1DV76 . I used a Galaxy Charging app to verify charging rate and it indicated 1.2A on both the Samsung wall-wart and cable as well as my Scosche 2.1A car charger w/ charging only cable.

Why is this? When 4 out of 5 devices are built on Android? http://tinyurl.com/qxpnyoh
I am so irritated at not having access to quality accessories for my devices. Take for example I wanted a set of great sounding headphones that controlled my mic, my tracks, etc. But, you won't find it other than Samsung's own that come with the phone. I had a great sounding pair of Seinnheisers but could not go back and forward on tracks. I plugged it into my ancient Ipod 5th gen classic and worked beautifully! For $80 I should get full functionality for my S4 or S5! My only choice is the LG Tones. Which are awesome but if my battery dies then no music or calls for me!
Frustrated!
My Klipsch earphones work perfectly changing tracks with with the inline remote.
Also my 2.1A charging won't charge my GS5 but it'll charge a GS4 and my Galaxy Exhilarate.

Anyone wanting to know how to fast charge using the usb port on your pc/laptop?
This usually takes ages compared to charging via mains lead, the hack itself is quite simple and involves modifying the usb cable
my results are as follows (these can vary depending on what you are using your phone for, what background apps running, etc.
charging with mains lead :
4.2v
998mah
mains ac
charging with STANDARD usb lead:
422mah
3.999v
standard usb
and finally the MODIFIED usb lead hack:
4.161v
782mah
usb hack
as you can see it is a 53% increase in charging compared to standard usb charging mah, and slightly under mains ac charging mah,
as my phone is always plugged in at my work pc or home pc or laptop or whatever this works out good
TUT:
use at your own risk this is for information purposes only and I hold no responsibility to any damage that may arise
using a micro usb cable (charging cable for htc phones)
cut it using a pliers half way through the cable
using pliers again cut away the thick black wiring, the red and black small wiring, and white and green wiring
from the usb port end to the microusb connect the black and red cables together so they join
from the microusb end short out the white and green cables together
from the usb port end leave the white and green cables, do not touch these
use insulation tape/solder to clean it up and then your cable is ready
I will make a mod for car chargers also soon
see attached image showing which wires to cut and which to join up and which to leave alone, if this helped you in anyway (it should help you ) then please hit the thanks button
this mod will trick your pc/laptop/htc into thinking that it is not a pc usb cable and will allow higher currents and voltage to your phone
you can check this with current widget from market place
once this mod is done, you cannot use the same cable again for pc/usb tethering or usb disk drive, only cable can be used for charging

Which cable are you using with that charger?

I also bought a charger (Rapid USB Car Charger, http://bit.ly/VrK8s2) that was able to charge up to 2.1 A, but when I connect my Nexus 5 (with OEM cable), I charge with speed of 500 mA. I expected least 1 A.
I'm not amused at all! End users shouldn't have to deal with this nonsense. This should work out of the box!
I have two alternative:
1. Buy this charging cable.
2. Change kernel to trick the phone to draw more power from the USB port.
This 2A charger from PowerGen has dual ports that are actually labeled for Apple and "Standard" charging. PowerGen 2.4Amps / 12W Dual USB Car charger Designed for Apple and Android Devices http://amzn.com/B006SU0SX0
Works fine with the stock cable also. I have this one in my wife's vehicle since she has an iPhone and I have a Samsung.

i use old regular usb cables, charges about 1% per minute, works great!! (not using usb3 cables)
wtf black price!! lol. mine was about $10, purchased 2 when the s5 phones came out.
I heard that cables matter the most in charging. I always use cables that came with my phone and have had no issues charging my phone so far. Have used PowerGen and Avantek. Both charge my iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4 at full speed. High quality construction and seems pretty durable.
This car charger works flawlessly at 1800mAh, i have been using it for a few month now.

I tried at least 5 different chargers and none of them charged more then 450mAh, i was really depressed about it until i found the charger linked above. Also, the fast charging USB cable *charges on 750 - 850 mAh which is just enough to not let your phone loose battery percentage while the navigation is turned on.
Try a Special Samsung Galaxy S5 Charger

I recently got a new Galaxy s5 on contract. I've heard that the galaxy s5 supports fast charging with a 2.1A charger. I bought a 2.1A car charger online, but the charger doesn't work when I connect it via a regular micro-USB cable to my phone. My brother's Galaxy s4 mini charges fine on it.
I was reading something on another post mentioning the need to modify the cable itself?
Any suggestions? I have another USB car charger for an iPad, and this charger also doesn't seem to work, whereas my old 1A car charger does work, but charges very slowly.

Hello,
I think you should go for a special Samsung Galaxy S5 Charger[/URL] car charger .I found a large variety of car chargers but you should look if it is the right watts that your S5 needs, maybe this is the reason why your brother phone charged and yours not
