[Q] Youtube video for 2.3.4 root, legit? - myTouch 4G General

New to this site, so I apologize if this has already been discussed (yes, I watched the noob video and did search all over for it, not finding it).
There is a Youtube video posted on 11/2/11 (link below) claiming to root 2.3.4 devices. There are a few comments stating that it worked, but I'm skeptical to try it, being that I have no idea where the developer/files are from.
So my question to this forum is: Is it real? Have any of you heard of this or tried it? Does it work for the mt4g on 2.3.4?
And if I have made a noob mistake, please forgive me.
Link to the video: err, well the video link won't let me post since I'm so newb... soooo you can search the video on youtube, the title is "How to Root Android 2.3.4 Root (ENG) .flv"
Thanks!

I doubt that it's legit or it would of been posted on xda. But who knows I don't suggest u try it because the potential of u bricking your phone but if your looking for way a way to get root I suggested u follow the guide to downgrade your phone back to froyo 2.2.1 then follow methods to root your phone from there

I am new to rooting, so the steps to downgrade and then upgrade are quite overwhelming for me.. I was hoping the video was legit because it was just a simple download and then drag/drop solution.
When going through the root threads I've gotten as far as ADB before getting thoroughly lost. I couldn't even figure out how to get that program running.
I am historically a windows guy, but my computer is 11 years old, so I've been using my girlfriends' macbook (osx 10.4.11) which makes all of these operations more difficult for me. Perusing unknown droid language on an unknown mac is proving difficult for this blue-screen blue-blood.

Well hay I'm only 16 and I installed. And used adb to root my phone I suggested U use the ( adb for dummies guide ) search threads it's very easy to follow or there's thread about a one click root application I think in the mytouch. General or app and themes section u can use that but I don know if it will work just be carefully on what u do. A another alternative Is downloading visionary r14 application u can obtain temporary root with this application and use some root apps but u can't flash custom roms until u get perm root and legit s = off bro

There's a downgrade thread in the g2 section. It works for the mytouch4g. Also, truebluedrew makes a great (easy to follow) video tutorial to get adb setup. He includes directions for a Mac. If you do try this, once you downgrade, mackster248 has awesome tutorial videos on rooting.

There are two exploits that can temp-root MT4G 2.3.4. They are fre3vo and zergRush.
The only way to get S-OFF/permroot is still to use temp-root to enable a downgrade to 2.2.1, and then apply (root.sh or gfree depending on what suits you), and then flash back to the ROM you want.

seriously....look at the replies to users' questions...
ok...number one, 577 youtube views tells me this youtube subscriber is NOT a popular dev in Germany. Big red flag there...most communities of programmers toss each other code and this video has hardly any hits!
Now look at the author's responses to users' bugs.
'try to restart to root' ...really? so restarting your phone will totally fix the fact that the code is bogus...hmmmm...sounds like an amateur virus wanna be to me..

trying to root my htc sprint hero 1.5 help
Hey man everyone started from the same spot your in. People on here are SUPER helpful, but easily get annoyed by people asking the same questions and not posting them in the right section. USE SEARCH! its your best friend, every question has been asked over 3 times. My advice, read everything on rooting (terminology, dangers, benefits, which type of root fits your needs, which ROM you want to flash) after a week or so on researching, find an RUU file in a thread. Then load that on your phone and follow the command prompt instructions carefully. Remember to use search, and rooting can brick, break, your phone. But the benefits of rooting are well worth It.

Go to the development section and look at the top posts(stickies), they have all the instructions there.

Upgrade to 2.1 first. Easier to root for me plus you're already upgraded then.

3 days ago I also had 1.5 which was rooted already. I then upgraded to the newest fw and then rerooted using the one click method that you will find here in xda forums. Worked without probs and was EXTREMELY easy.

Hey dude, I'd recommend using this link right here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
It tells how to get your phone to the stock 2.1 and then how to root that.
If you read down through the first 2 or 3 posts, all the instructions are there and it's really hard to mess them up if you follow exactly what is typed.
You don't even HAVE to upgrade to 2.1, but I'd recommend doing it first.
If you don't want to mess with the link I included above, you can just root it from 1.5 like it is now using some of the one-click methods out there on the forum. If you go to the Development section of this HTC Hero forum and look around for any threads with ROOT in the title, you should be able to find anything you need.
Also check out the Take Control link down in my signature below -- it has a lot of helpful posts and info too.

Help please!! samsung i897 captivate

Hi guys i'm nes on this forum, i'm italian and i have a samsung captivate i897, i also take this opportunity to introduce myself...
Now i expose you the problem:
i have a i897 captivate marked AT&T for this i have a problem to fix the GPS and to install applications outside the market, I would like you to help me to make clean OS from the applications AT & T and put in i897 a i9000 ROM not rooted...please guys help me, and thanks in advance
1. Read the new owners guide.
2. This forum is about learning things by yourself. Don't expect to be spoonfed.
3. Custom ROM always =Rooted mind you.

I read the guide but i'm desperate,do you recommend something? can u post the link of the better rom and kernel that i can use? im noob in android world
I can't recommend anything man. Everything is good.
You have to discover by yourself what suits your needs.

the new user guide (that i wrote) teaches about stickies! and where to find them!
find the stickies in the captivate general, q&a and dev forums they have all the answers you are looking for and way more.
go. read. learn.
this is really basic stuff. At&t does not like you installing apps not from the market "its called side loading" you need to be rooted to fix it and there are pleanty of guides "one click root has an option to enable non market apps" to get a different rom go to the dev sectoin chose a rom and follow the simple directions or for a guide for the entire process http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
Assuming what you meant was that you want ATT's crap taken off and a new ROM...
Why would you not want your device rooted? If voiding your warranty is a concern it's fine, there are plenty of methods to return back to stock Eclair/Froyo. And there really isn't a ROM out there that's head and shoulders over the rest, you're going to have to play around and see which one you like the feel of the best. Try out a different ROM every couple of days and see how you like it.

If you are asking someone to help you build a rom well... I don't think that will happen. You can go to samfirmwares.com and download a stock i9000 rom, but without root you, and if you don't know how to build to incorporate the home button and haptic feedback fixes, your phone won't work right. My suggestion is to go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790
They are all stock i9000 roms with only busybox and root installed. I'm using the stock jvh on my captivate, at the moment, and it works great. You will have to deal with root. It's better to be rooted anyway.

Only replying to that small part of your post, and correcting you by saying no, you don't need to be rooted to sideload applications. SWM (Sideload Wonder Machine) can do it so long as you have the drivers installed and USB Debugging on. I installed several applications as soon as I got the phone, long before I ever rooted my phone, much less installed a custom ROM on it.

Why didn't you use google? There are plenty of places that explain how to root that aren't on this site, which is more an "advanced" place anyways(I use that term loosely, but I get the idea that people here assume you know a little about your phone).
Check out MobileTechVideos, the guy who does those had a three-part, in-depth ROM flash set of videos that explain exactly how to use One-Click to Root.
Edit:
Christ dude, use some decent punctuation and at least attempt to be succinct in your requests. Freaking out isn't going to get you anywhere.

Hello all,
I am not advanced enough in hacking to do this myself, but really miss root access. Even if we only have temporary access, at least we could run Titanium backup. Is anybody working on this? I'm sure being a new version of Android, some new exploits to gain root exist...
Also anybody have a way to get HULU working? I have tryed installing the Hex edited Flash player 10.3 installation but it will not install...
Anybody here tryed that gingerbreak.apk? I read that it no longer works...

What you'll need to do is download the Ace Hack Kit, but unfortunately it has been suspended due to mistreatment on the forums. So you'll have to find another method of downloading it, or I'll ask him if I can post it.

You mistakingly got thanked for that - lucky dog.
Read the "Effen Manual". From what I recall seeing in the hack kit thread the password should be in there. This was to ensure users were READING
Also, make sure you read the FAQ section in the "effin manual" since that will provide vital information regarding where the password is in the hack kit folder.
If you still need the most up to date hack kit PM me and I can provide it to you.
I just dont understand why the download was taken off. All he has to do is no longer support it and not respond to questions/answers that he may deem as unfit for the development section.
From what i read in the thread it appears there was just a simple misunderstanding as far as the use of the development forum rather than using the Q/A section along with a user questioning the possibility that the hack kit is not perfect.

This x1298540928756 (however it's his software and he can do with it as he pleases)
However it looks like JSL's procedure essentially does the same thing, but it's not in a "1 step" GUI like attn1's was. It's more closely resembles versions of the hack kit before attn1 started the GUI
Edit: I bet this (http://www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-the-htc-desire-hd/) irked him too. A) no credit to attn1 in this article B) Let's be honest, how many times have we seen attn1 tell people to stop watching videos and read the effen manual?

XDA = development site, not hold my hand I'm a noob help me site. It's because of complaining like this that got the development for the hack kit and attn1 to stop in the first place. If you think rooting this phone is impossible, then stop now before you destroy your phone. The link to do it the old fashion way was posted above, please read it, learn it and apply it if rooting still seems like something you wanna do. Educating yourself before you destroy your phone shouldn't be that hard or that much to ask. I can't wait to see the butt hurt response from this...more and more the Inspire forums are being overrun with these type of threads...I understand why attn1 got fed up.

Yes, attn1's hack kit was the 'easiest' method available. Hopefully, if he can get some assistance with supporting it, he'll re-release it (follow thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377119&page=3) In the mean time, you can go here (http://driphter.com/index.php?topic=3867.0) and follow the process described (which has been suggested multiple times in this thread). This is essentially the way attn1's hack kit started, before he started making it idiot proof (not calling anyone names, that's just how it is). Many, many users were able to successfully root/s-off using attn1's 'long' method before he started developing his GUI, but if this seems too over-the-top for you then maybe you should rethink the idea of rooting. Hopefully attn1 will re-release his easy to use hack kit, but with the frustration he's dealing with having to put up with users who want to be spoon fed this information is understandable, and I don't blame him in the least bit for pulling it - whether temporary or permanent
IMHO - there should be no 'root method for dummies'. You're messing with integral parts of the system when you're doing this and there is potential to permanently damage your phone. If you don't want to learn what the process is actually accomplishing, you shouldn't be doing it in the first place. Is there a specific reason you want root/s-off?

This has been covered, there is no need to provide anymore links or reiterate what has been said in this thread numerous times or in any of these "OMGZ WHERE DID THE HACK KIT GOOO HELPP MEEE" threads. If users want to educate themselves its out there waiting for them to read it. If they don't that's on them. I'm personally happy that ATTN1 took it down, I have no idea how he put up with it for this long.

CURRENT Inspire root and rom guides and links?

I love my Inspire but I want to get rid of bloatware and block ads. Easy right? Just root it. Well, every thread I've found has out of date links or says they are not for 2.3 or higher.
All the links to Bubby's one click either say 'nothing to see here' or that they only work for something prior to 2.3.
Other than one link for the Revolution rom with over 750 pages I have read every page and every link referring to rooting and installing a new rom.
Could someone please post a guide with current links? Or just updated links for the old guides if they still work with the new tools?
Thanks for any help guys!

The only working tool for your device is the Advanced Ace Hack Kit, wich is no longer supported here. Follow my signature and you will find the way...

I may sound like a layman, but there used to be a thread in android development subforum under HTC Inspire that offered ACE hack kit, a program that would root your phone and install an advanced "recovery" system in your phone. Among others, this one is by far the easiest and effortless way of rooting the phone. Once the hack kit is installed, you can effortlessly install any ROM that has been tested by many on HTC Inspire, such as these from the link http://theunlockr.com/category/roms-2/android-roms-2/htc-inspire-4g-roms/
However, like another poster pointed out, the dev that offered us the Advanced ACE hack kit (AAHK) is no longer with XDA. May be he has his own website where he offers it for free. This used to be where it was offered.
Ah, the post above, somewhere masked in the sig is a way to get AAHK.
Your signature led to another and then....

I finally found it! There were a few more new websites that still contained bad links. But a few more searches and a read through another 'I can't find it' thread finally got me to a good link.
Thank you again for the good-naturedness of your reply It seems things have gotten very testy in the last 6 months or so. There are obviously a lot of people who are, um, genuinely challenged when it comes to, um, thinking. Based on spelling it seems that the issue (being stupid) is genuine and yelling at them isn't going to help.
So again - THANK YOU! It really did take a specific search to find the link and it took three searches to find the right specific search. You started me on the path to the right search.
Link found on attn1's twitter.
I for sure will donate to him. Hopefully I won't have to bother him with any kickban questions lol.
Well, I just rooted my inspire 4g yesterday and used the method from here:http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Ace:_Rooting_&_CyanogenMod it went smoothly and completed successfully and I flashed the custom rom already.
I tried to follow other hack tools but all them wanted to uninstall htc sync and relative drivers from the computer which is a pain
