Hi all,
I would like you guys to help me here if you have the time.
When I load a pdf with quite some pictures in it, it simply won`t load
I have searched for this issue and I couldnot find a solution.
Some genious suggested somewhere in a similar thread, that the OP might set expectations for a tablet too high(?). Which is bs in this case. Eeepad is no ipad, ofc, butan ipad works a LOT smoother when browsing and it loads ANY pdf without ANY issue. And the lag on this ( read; my eeepad) is creazy.
Can any1 plz test this link: http://m.mediamarkt.de/
Download the brochure, and tell me how well it loads in ANY application. Polaris, the ereader or acrobat.
Typing now lags like crazy, and simple browsing through xda crashes thebrowser.
Help me?
Love and peace....
Seriously... the EEE Pad (I assume anything with Tegra 2) is crap and really slow loading anything... and much slower than my 2 year old EEE PC.
I had the exact same problem when I bought mine... load a 30MB pdf, and each page turn took >3 seconds... here read: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1288277
Browser same BS.
Solutions I found:
1.- PDF: Mantano Reader 1.51 or above.
2.- Browser: Disable flash plugin or make it on demand.
Rayone is correct. I have found limitations with the PDF reader on the phone and the tablet. Get the Mantano reader or any other or equal that reads PDF.
BTW, I loaded this Markt ad book on my computer 8-core 32 gig ram and it runs very slow and it is very jerky. This leads me to believe that the compiling PDF software is either old or is set up wrong. So, it can be that as well. Either way, I think you are expecting alot from such a small power machine like a tablet.
Good Luck

Hi there,
I'd just like to say hello to everyone here, and a quick thank you for a small problem solved.
I bought my Orbit 2 a week ago and was having a small problem with the GPRS trying to connect all the time (it wouldnt connect due to no credit, I havnt bought any yet as I wanted to get used to the phone first). That problem has been solved now as I read a post about it here, and followed the instructions. Thanks very much
I have another few questions...
On this video (about 25 seconds in) there is a nice clear start screen with the large clock, and other info. I dont seem to have the option on my phone, all I have is the Windows 6.1 "Today" page. Where do I get this screen from, and what is it called please?
Link to a YouTube Video
When I choose a background picture for my "Today" page it comes up all pale and washed out looking. Is there a way to solve this please, and get the pictures looking all nice?
Thank you very much for your time,
Brian
P.S. Incase anyone was wondering, the sync software, and Windows Mobile Device software work perfectly on the Windows 7 Release Candidate in both 32bit and 64bit versions. This is on both my laptop and desktop computers
I have 32bit and 64bit in a dual boot on my laptop, and Vista Ultimate 32bit, and Win7 64bit on the desktop.
The only BSOD's I've had are with Vista (not unusual...)
The clock in that video is the HTC home screen, try googling for HTChome6.cab
HTH
Kim
Brilliant!! Thank you very much
I now have an easy to touch home screen, and am getting much more comfortable with the device
Thanks cozzykim,
Brian
Another wee question...
Is there a compatibility list for Micro SD cards? And what is the maximum capacity that Polaris will take?
I use my phone to watch videos at work a lot as I have a boring job
I found a 3gp converter thats free and reliable. It also gives good quality output even in full screen on the phone.
AVS Video Converter.
I usually download stuff from YouTube using Realplayer, then convert it to AVI/WMV with FLV converter, and watch it on the computer or laptop later. Now you can download stuff from YouTube, and convert it straight away with the YouTube converter thats also availible in the above link.
Have fun all,
Brian
A small application I have found that really makes things so much easier...
True Connect It is brilliant
Have fun all,
Brian
i think that pretty much any micro sd card works, people have had the 16 gb ones working fine in the phone but theorically they should support 32gb ones when they are released.
I have an order in for a HP slate but don't get it until April! Don't want to wait and need to use pdf files and be able to run acrobat so I can do annotations during meetings of pdf files and then sync to my server when I get back into my office. I know I can do it with the slate as it is windows based and has flash. Can I also do it with the G after the flash issue is fixed and with a program that runs in the android environment?
I specifically purchased Repligo Reader from the Market because it was the only app (at the time) that handled annotations. I don't know if the annotations are saved in the pdf or not (and thus would be visible if you transfer the pdf to another computer), but Repligo was well worth the purchase price.
Repligo does not allow you to write with a stylis or finger to make notes and that is an annotation feature that is powerful when you are in meetings and then want to take those notes and have them on the page.
It seems like acrobat has a android program, but I can't find anyone that has used it or knows about it. There is a bluebeam program that looks great but it is for windows.
Stylus or fingertip annotation would be the bomb. Dont know of any Android pfd apps that do that.. if you come across one, post it here, because I'd like that too.
Repligo
Friends, Repligo DOES allow you to annotate with a capacitative stylus or finger.
I know because i use it for school work at my university. Thats the main reason why i bought my g tablet in the first place.
When you are in a pdf, tap on the screen onces to bring up the top and bottom menus. At the top, click on the 3rd symbol from the left (pencil symbol).
Click on draw free hand. And...wait for it...magic happens
I've only ever bought 2 paid apps for my G tab and HTC Desire HD. (Repligo and thumd keyboard)
Hope this helps
Yep. It wasn't one of the features it had when it first launched, but it's been added over the last couple of weeks. Also, they finally changed it so when you zoom in on one page, it stays that way for the other pages.
I've bought more than 2 apps, but RepliGo was one of the better purchases.
Huh. Never noticed that before. Thanks for the tip!!
Cool. And thanks. Now any problems with syncing files on my Windows 7 OS office computer to the Gtablet? Any procedures you can turn me on to in that area?
Just purchased it and I am not so happy with it. The free hand mode will not let you let the pen up to print words without asking you to save or cancel at every lift of the finger. Also, I don't see a highlighter. Additinoally if you have a password to open the file the program will just not let you edit the file at all! Do you have any of these issues?
Once you select the text, you can highlight it in the pop up menu...
Just ignore the "done, cancel" menu when you are doing handwrite. You can continue drawing without any interference. Once you click done it does not save. It just confirms that you want to keep the characters. The file is only saved when you go to menu and click save.
Of course if you wanna highlight empty space / non-text, you cant at this moment. Not sure about the password one though.
Thanks for your help! My problem is that I have issues with even getting the program to recognize my selection of text. I touch and then drag and nothing! I have tried with different files (6 to be exact) and one of them allows me to select the text but that is very unstable and not consitant. Really a bummer as when I am in meetings, I want the interaction of me doing this to be quick and seemless. Otherwise I spend time trying to figure the program out instead of figureing out the issues that are present at the meeting.
Can you offer any help? Have a request into Cerience but have not heard back. I fear they are just going to say that some file have this problem and leave it at that. I found another cool program called pdf annotator 3.0 but it is not avalible for android. I just bought this g-tab and learned and did the root, clockmod, vegan and love it. In fact enought to cancel my slate order as this has a bigger screen, but if I can't annotate, I'll have to give this to my daugther who facebooks and googles, but I will need to stay with a pc os based tablet.
Support from Repligo has been good. They e-mailed to say that they don't support my password protected files and that is why I can't comment on those types. On the ones that I can the program is still a bit buggy for me. Not sure if it is the app for me. Will need to work with it for a while.
Repligo works on vegan 5.1.1 but everytime you tab the middle of the screen to get the menu to freehand the app FC. Those who are freehanding in repligo, which rom are you using?

I use RepliGo and all functions work nicely with VEGAn 5.1
(Without the 5.1 Suppliment)
Preface: I'm new to Android and I hope these questions don't fall in to the "bloat crap" category.
XDA Thread Search engine is off line, and google couldn't find specific issues.
Thanks in advance for any insights provided.
I picked up a Transformer over the weekend, and I'm not impressed with the performance.
Issues/Question:
1.- I've tried every PDF reader (EZ, etc) and I get a loading or blurry screen with every page turn for around ~3 seconds. I've put the files on internal and external memory.
Is there anyway to improve the page load?
2.- When viewing any web page it loads square by square ~100x100px.
Is there anyway to improve the page load?
3.- When using the up/down arrows on the keyboard, pages are very jerky, but using the onsceen scroller it's OK... can I do anything to improve the up/down arrow keys?
4.- Is there anyway/app that allows you to select text easily? Click/move cursor?
5.- Is there anyway of opening a link in a new Tab using the kb? Eg Ctrl + click?
6.- Is there anyway to view the link URL (mouse over) before clicking it?
7.- Is there anyway to edit the hosts file without rooting the device?
8.- How do I open a console window?
Thanks
7) nope
8) i don't know if the terminal emulator comes stock, or it came with my custom rom...but basically, you just need a some sort of terminal app (either terminal emulator, or my preference, connectbot)

Return your TF and get an ipad2. It is infinitely better at everything. And you get to be an ass like that guy on the train who told me to my face I had an immitation.

Repligo is the best one at the moment as far as handling very large pdf files. I use both repligo and ezpdf.

Why didn't you just get a laptop? From your questions, I can tell that you tried to use the TF like a laptop. This is the #1 reason why people are disappointed at the tablet platform when they first got it.
Repeat after me. Tablets ain't no laptops.
Tablets ain't no phones either.
The tablet platform is a completely new niche. It is up to YOU to figure out ways to use it more easily and incorporate it into your life.
Imagine if everybody tried to use a motorcycle like a car or a canoe like a ship. Each thing is completely capable of standing on its own in its own niche.
I dare you to go into a motorcycle bar and tell people you can't treat it like a car and see what happens.
I have not touched my laptop for 4 months. I use the TF everyday. As engineers, we have to have astm and aci references everywhere we go for design and analysis purposes. We also have to type out a lot of reports.
All the other guys at work would carry around their books for references (these books are thousands of pages thick), their ipad 2 for entertainment, and their clunky laptops for work. I just carry my TF+dock. Think about that for a moment. Apple users can't imagine using the ipad 2 for anything other than fun and games. And on the opposite end, you can't imagine using the tablet like anything other than a PC.
Isn't it time you step back and reconsider why you got the TF in the first place?
Unlike the previous guy, I'll try not to be a complete sarcastic ass about some of the answers.
1) Repligo is a good one, although I simply use Adobe out of laziness. Personally, I don't have a problem with the 3 second lag. But that's because I also remember when a web page took 3 seconds to load a page of text and graphics.
2) I use a combination of the OS browser, Skyfire, Opera, and Firefox fox everything I do. Each provides a specific not-so-niche role in my daily use. Opera and Firefox have the fastest and smoothest loads.
3) If it's just in Browser that you're experiencing that, try one of the other browsers I suggested. If it's otherwise, then unfortunately, you'll just have to live with it. Maybe one of the roms out there have smoother operations, I don't know as I'm still running rooted stock.
4) Press-hold until word is highlighted or menu for "Select/Scroll" comes up. Proceed. Touch screen only.
5) Unknown. Touch screen works well enough for such a simple thing.
6) Press-hold until menu pops up. Address will be listed there.
7) That's part of the advantage of root.
8) You'll need to install a terminal program proceed.
I would advise that you run the full gamut of tests during your exchange/return period to figure out exactly what you're wanting the TF to do. If it's just because it's android, fair enough. If it's because you were told/had the idea that this is an ipad killer, fair enough. If it's to be used as a replacement to your desktop/laptop, fair enough. But it's up to you to determine what you want to use it for.
I got this a month ago, to the day and haven't had a reason to go back to Windows for more than transferring files to the cloud. Reason for that is that I don't own the dock. BT keyboard works perfectly well for me. For me, this is my be-all end-all. It's my desktop, my laptop, my media player, my video viewer, everything. Mind, I'm also very adaptable and fluid, so having one device with multiple programs to do the same/similar thing is nothing new to me.
Though truth be told, what do I know? I'm merely a student, a writer, an amateur artist, and an over-obsessive reader. I'm not doing anything major, like construction, law, or IT.
Thank you all for your comments/answers.
My EEE pad, isn't playing nice with NVFlash... I try and get it rooted some how.
1.- I tried RepliGo, still slow... same as EzPDF.
2.- I'll try anther browser... always been a fan of Chrome though.
5.- I would have thought implementing a double tap, press one area then tap link for a new tab would be fairly easy.
@goodintentions: I guess when you bought your EEE you felt like a down syndrome kid in a candy store.
I kind of took it for granted I would be able to load a PDF page < 1 second... waiting ~3 per page on a 120 page magazine adds 6 minutes... now think about the number of magazines/books you might read.
I bought the EEE for reading PDF's and web pages... they don't make laptops with decent screens... NFI why, but that's just the prevailing logic in Taiwan/Japan/USA.
Thanks again.
Am using mantano reader for pdf so far still the best reader for me and dolphin for pad beside firefox as browser.
Please cmiiw.

Mantano reader 1.2.4 is better. But if you fit vertically ~3-4 seconds, horizontally ~1-3 seconds... and zoom to fill screen doesn't do anything but blur the page
Browsers, page load http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1191141:
Opera 11.10.11.....: 22 seconds, minimal draw lag
FireFox 7.0.1: 21 seconds, substantial draw lag... half page with checker background, fills in quick.
Android Browser 3.2.1: 14 seconds, substantial draw lag... half page with checker background, fills in slow.
Laptop with Core Solo 1.4Ghz + Chrome 14: 3 seconds. No draw lag.
I've seen it in threads that the "I/O" is a problem on the tf700.
What does that mean? I don't know what it is :silly:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Input/output
To add just a bit of context to the rather unfriendly and a bit too concise a reply above, the TF700 -- as all other Transformer edition tablets -- suffer from lags and hangups when a disk-intensive task is run concurrently with some other task (for example when installing or updating an app in the background and browsing the web or watching a (high-resolution) video at the same time) or when transferring large amounts of data to or from both internal and external memory (like that video you wanted watch while letting your apps update in the background ). Note that the term 'disk-intensive' is a relative one, since it also happens with operations so limited that it is hard to believe the hardware would be overwhelmed to any significant degree.
I was able to see this easily last night installing large apps and try to use the play st ore while downloading. Never had this on my og transformer.
Otherwise this is a beautiful tablet
MartyHulskemper nails the description, so I am listing some specific examples.
1. Installing applications stalls other action/task
Presumably, installing application actively access your flash drive and this basically freezes your system temporary even it is non-intensive application such as simply non-flash based site browsing.
2. Downloading large file stalls other action/task
Just as #1, but again this is writing/accessing your flash drive.
3. Copy/Write from PC to Tablet by USB
Small files flies. Big files inconsistently but relatively frequently stops/freezes. Presumably some sort of issue from writing to flash disk.
4. Slower PDF opening (I am speculating this)
Compared to my former system, which was dual core, opening large PDF is much slower and almost consistently gives me "No response" Error. This I am blaming on the reading from flash drive is somehow the issue.
So You will encounter the problems here and there as I/O is pretty much used everywhere.
Hello
ich bought an new Galaxy Note 10.1 today...Its for my study and therefore I want to use it as ebook Reader with marking and editing...
no this main feature why I bought this Tablet doesn't work !! I have latest Firmware and also made a factory reset which didn't help.
I have tried it with 2 books, one with 380 and one with 990 pages..Both didn't start to import, or started and canceled without a message on random pages...ITS REALLY ANOYING !!! It takes so long and then it cancels and it just doesn't work...
If I don't get an solution for that I will bring it back... And no I don't want to use oter Apps like ezpdf . I want to use S-Note with all its functions..
Can you help me?
Regards!
Wow a 990 page PDF! I would suggest you're expecting a bit much of a device with 2Gb of memory. Maybe you'd be better off with a laptop with a more powerful processor and plenty of RAM. I really don't think any tablet currently on the market would be suitable for your expectations.
Out of interest, what is the file size in MB of these two files?
28 mb and 130mb
If i would by ezpdf this all should work?
Just imported 730mb 300 page pdf. file to S-note with no problems.

It would be worthwhile downloading the trial version of EZpdf before you purchase. I would also caution that adding a lot of graphical annotation (e.g. handwritten text notes) would add significantly to the original file size.
Have you checked the files have not got corrupted during copying to the Note, can you open them in Android Adobe Reader for instance?
The files work with adobe reader! No one else has this problem since jelly bean but me....im testing ezpdf at the moment
