Can't boot up phone, help needed. - HTC Desire S

Hi,
My Desire S doesn't want to boot after a restore to stock ROM. I was running Hyperion 2.1 I wiped all the caches in recovery and then restored the nandroid backup. When the setup was finished I rebooted the phone but now it doesn't want to boot. It stays at the white HTC boot screen.
I can however boot up the phone in restore mode. But when I try to restore the nandroid backup it says:
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log

It's january now, 2 months later, and I have no idea what I should do now. As I said, I can't boot up phone, stuck on white HTC screen. Is there any way I can turn S-on so I can send it to repair?

try going into recovery and formatting all your partitions again!
then restore your backup

There is a topic whith emmc problems but you need to read a lot before doing that, and probably you can save your phone, I replace my main board but in that time I didn't have some info about this problems, now you can find some resolve stuf in this section. Do some research and write doun before trying. Hope for the best.

This means that your setup is not correct
Make a folder "android" in your C:/ drive. You should have C:\android path in your Windows Explorer when you open it.
Copy adb.exe to this folder
Connect your phone to the PC, reboot the phone to recovery, open cmd on your PC and type:
Code:
cd C:\android
adb devices
your device serial number should be listed.

Pls help!

Tried all possible solutions and nothing worked so far...
I get freezes on Bootloader a lot when I do commads via fastboot...
Any help will do!!!!

Sounds very similar to a emmc chip issue, (another one) see as you say you have tried a number of fixes. You are probably looking at a warranty (or not) repair.
Even if you manage to sort the emmc chip will still be an issue at some further day

Sorry, I just moved to another house past months and no time to fix phone. Was using old nokia 3310.
Trying to fix it again now.

I'm a bit rusty but isn't the revolutionary hboot the problem? It is not permitting itself to be overwritten? Or am I off base cos he's doing a restore not an ruu install

A nandroid backup doesn't include the hboot.img, so that isn't the issue. It sounds like the eMMC issue.

[Solved] Desire S; Revol>custom ROM>next put ENG Hboot 0.98 caused corrupted cache

[Solved] Desire S; Revol>custom ROM>next put ENG Hboot 0.98 caused corrupted cache
Hi all,
I have gone through the index, beginner's tutorial and other stuff and I have done the following.
1. My original desire s had been upgraded to FOTA and hboot 2.x.
2. Later, for rooting purposes, after reading from this excellent forum, I managed to downgrade to hboot 0.98.x by following this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1443636
3. Then applied revolutionary with cwm, and installed endymion 3.5 (latest release).
4. I then wanted to apply ENG hboot to get to 0.98.0000 over revolutionary hboot(so that, in future, i can get a RUU or updated radio, in case i require it).
5. I did not install any Superuser app directly (only what the custom ROM gives me).
However, I have got into trouble.
5. I used this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113820
6. Putting the PG88IMG.zip and rebooting into bootloader, correctly recognises it but cannot overwrite it.
7. Then I used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15782816&postcount=4 and followed all the steps:
adb devices
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 of=/sdcard/backup.img
dd if=/sdcard/hboot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
reboot bootloader
AFTER the last step, there was a Segmentation fault.
8. I rebooted manually, but could not enter the bootloader (vol down + power). So got from ROM manager (with the updated cwm 5.00.x) into recovery.
9. There I got the notorious errors of
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
10. Since I could not go any further at that point of time, I just have rebooted.
I am in a near-state-of-panic (the only sane thing is that there is a nandroid backup, as well as a working phone at this point of time). There are many guides available for this cache corruption issue, but I am confused.
Please help and point out what exactly needs to be done.
Thanks.
Enter recovery and try to simply format the cache, what happens? Any errors?

Thanks ben,
I followed your instructions, and wiped (formatted) the cache. rebooted to check.
Now everything is ok. Thanks a lot.
Also the bootloader now reads hboot eng 0.98.000 eng off.

The cache corruption error that you've read about can be a signal of a much nastier problem that happens when you have a damaged eMMC card - luckily not in this case!

[Q] White screen after RUU

Hi there. I've recently decided to change my desire s software back to its original one, and downloaded the RUU called
RUU_Saga_S_HTC_ARA_2.14.415.3_Radio_20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04_M_release_226003_signed.exe
and after installing the update the phone showed only white screen with an HTC logo in the center and didn't boot up. Is there any way to bring it back to life?

try to flash new recovery with adb
can you give me some guide topic or etc?
I can't find a topic that explains the process in my case. And from where I should get the new recovery from?
I can't access the phone with adb when in the bootloader menu. When I go to recovery it says: E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command and when I try to install an update it says Invalid command and reboots... any ideas?
I forgot to mention that the bootloader is revolutionary.

second, you should first flash an ENG HBOOT (0.98..)

[Q] Soft brick/ Can't mount SD/ Unrecognizable device

So apparently my phone decided to soft brick while I was sleeping the the other night. I can only get into the bootloader and recovery. I tried to relock my bootloader so I could run the RUU but my computer doesnt want to recognize the phone anymore. It just shows up as an Unknown Device. And in recovery, I can view some files but all my stuff was wiped. And when I try to wipe anything, it says unable to mount. Any help with this would be nice.

When in TWRP go to mount it while connected and windows should prompt you to format the drive.
Once formatted you can place a rom on it and flash it.

I am having the same loop issue. Able to go into bootloader and get into twrp. I have formated internal sd card; tried to load several roms and flash boot img both externally and internally using an aroma loader. It's the Boot Img file that gets stuck. Anyways. it just turns on to htc splash screen and then off and then back to spalsh screen. Seems rom loads fine, but i notice it hangs on boot img 98%. When trying to flash the image itself it gives message of:

Installing Stock HTC Kernel
Extracting drivers
Flashing boot.img

[Q] Nexus 5 stuck at screen of the eternally spinning balls

I'm going to start off by saying I'm the noobiest of noobs, so please be gentle with your replies.
I was watching Youtube on my Nexus 5 yesterday when it suddenly shut down and attempted to restart itself. I watched it go very slowly from the white Google logo to the colourful spinning balls screen, and it got stuck there.
Status right now:
Phone stuck at spinning balls screen
I can get to fastboot and factory recovery screen
Factory reset doesn't work
Power button appears to be working fine
Charging is fine and I can see the battery icon when it's off
Phone is not rooted, bootloader has not been unlocked
What I did so far:
Someone posted a thread with a similar problem and said to flash the factory image a few times, so I followed these instructions. Except to do that I need to unlock my (currently locked) bootloader first. I then tried to follow these instructions of unlocking bootloader, but got stuck at the last step of "fastboot reboot“ because my phone still won't get past the screen of spinning balls, no unlocking the bootloader for me. HELP!
This is what's at the bottom of the system recovery screen:
E: failed to mount /cache (Invalid argument)
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: failed to mount /cache (Invalid argument)

So. Have you tried the fastboot commands to fastboot flash system system.img and boot and cache etc etc?

I think I have, it didn't work because the bootloader is locked, and if I am able to unlock it right now, there would be no problem.

Not surprising. We already know your phone won't boot and that what that command tries to do. Use the command "fastboot reboot-bootloader".

Tried it, then when the fastboot screen came on, it's "Lock State - Locked" again.

Not a good sign. Points to a physical problem, not software.
And you have done fastboot oem unlock yea?

Does that mean I have to take it to a repair shop? Or is it irrepairable?

Yes, the status shows as unlocked right after I do fastboot oem unlock, but as soon as I reboot it, goes back to locked again.

Yup, does sound like pooped nand. Nothing you can do about unlocking. But can you not flash the img's locked tho still as they're Google img's. I can't remember now
