Stuck on the triangle screen with Android doing road work and the words "Downloading below it" if I hold the power down and boot the device.
This happened when I tried to flash the ICS ROM and then another Gingerbread ROM after that which doesn't want to boot. Would really help if someone can help me recover.
Thanks

Lol hopefully u wiped full when flashing rom's... alright so turn off ur phone.. hold power button the volume up at the same time... using the volume down button scroll to recovery... Ull see the triangle again with an exclamation mark in center... hit volume up and power again (night take a couple of tries) once in recovery just go to restore and back up... restore.... and pick the recent one u backed up

If you don't have a backup, use ADB to flash clockworkmod again, boot into CWM, do the full wipe procedure and reflash the ROM.

Volume Up + Power doesn't do anything and tries to boot into the flashed ROM which doesn't get past the glowing Android logo. Only thing that works is volume down + power which shows Android doing the digging...
And yep- I did wipe everything including davlik and battery before installing the new ROM

Ah my bad, I figured you already knew the procedure since you're in the stage of flashing ROMs.
Follow this guide, you can skip to part 3 if you've already unlocked your device and have the Android SDK installed:

Make sure to wipe data + cache + dalvik. Battery stats are irrelevant to this process so you could leave them untouched

2 days ago i rooted my nexus s andere installed cwm recovery. Now i have read that i can not return to stock recovery again? I tried by flashing gri54 through odin. Result :cwm wasn't there anymore but when i choose option recovery i got some weird flipping image...
Does theater mean i can't receive ota updates anymore? Is there a way to get stock recovery back?

You can download a full ROM or whichever equivalent and copy and paste it to root of your phone, then run bootloader (power + volume up) and select recovery option, choose that ROM file to install.
Your phone will be unrooted though.
Hmm like i said i used odin to flash a stock rom so that should be the same as flashing via recovery .. IT removes cwm but doesn't restore original recovery ..also still haven't found a full gri54.img for fastboot in the forum. .so odin is the only way to flash stock

Just flashed gri40 2.3.3 via recovery .. lost root etc and cwm is gone ...but still no stock recovery ..when I am in bootloader mode and select recovery mode , I get to see a green android with a big exclamation mark and thats it ... I just do no get why my stock recovery will not come back, not even after completely wiping evrything and flashing a stock rom
If im not wrong.
That Android with exclamation mark, is the 'stock recovery' you are looking for.

But you have stock recovery.Just press/hold POWER first, then volume up and you ll see the 3e recovery
@navlem Yes you are correct
hmm my head turns red in shame .... you mean custom recovery is just android with an exclamation mark ?? On my galaxy s, I had 3e recovery where I could wipe my device, format cache, install update.zip .. there is no such recovery on the nexus s ?
NB power + vol. up gives me bootloader mode not recovery ...
Very sorry for my noobish behavior ... I am so used to my galaxy s ..that I overlooked some basic .. did not know that after going in recovery mode I had to press the power + vol up combo again ..
Many thanks for the friendly answers !

I mean stock recovery is the android with the exclamation mark! And yes its the same recovery as galaxy s. In order to go to 3e recovery, after you see the android with the exclamation mark just hold power button and then volume up.
In order to boot in bootloader with your phone off, hold volume up+power button
A few months ago I rooted my phone and installed Rashed97's CM10 based rom.
This was fine for a day or two until I noticed rapid battery drain (losing %20 in a couple minutes). I was overclocking prior to this, but I did not exceed 729mhz with smartass-v2 governor (and surely any overclocking settings are lost when flashing a new rom?).
So once the battery fully drained, it went in to a boot loop.
I have tried different recoveries(All flashed fine), and different roms, but I always get a boot loop.
Some recoveries I have used:
CWM v6
CWM v5
TWRP
Stock
Some Roms I have tried flashing (all resulted in bootloops)
ICySNAP v1.6 FINAL
LG Optimus One Family CM10 - Build 6 and 7
NightlyFourE ICS 5.1 REMAKE
Stock v10 bb
Stock v20 bb
Some roms finished the boot and let me use the phone, however this only lasted a few seconds and did not happen again.
I am on the verge of throwing the phone out as I am so frustrated by this.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Try AmonRa recovery - very stable. Wipe ALL options listed ( wipe again just for confirmation ) EXCEPT your sd card. Flash a rom and check.

Tried that and got the same results.
Just tried flashing a stock rom via lgmdp, gets all the way to playing the android boot sound before restarting.
Is it possible that I have permanently bricked my phone?....

Going in to recovery does not stop the bootloop.
I don't know if this will work or not, but a Factory Reset is done by holding "Power+Vol Up+Vol Down" for 10 seconds. Power off the device first.

Holding "Power+Vol Up+Vol Down" for 10 seconds just makes it go into the stock recovery.
A triangle with an exclamation mark.

The only thing I can recommend is to try installing a recovery in a way that you haven't tried yet, maybe? If you can boot in to fastboot mode, check my signature for a link for Android Flash Recovery. It may be able to restore your recovery.
In recovery choose 'wipe data/factory reset' option and reboot
I flashed a zip, and now my phone won't boot! When I press power and volume down, it doesn't boot into recovery either! Like it vibrates twice but then just doesn't boot! Please help!!!!
I was also running cm10 liquidsmooth, and when I try to boot to recovery it just vibrates twice and the screen shows the samsung logo for like teo seconds. Then the screen just goes blank. I seriously need help!
Can you give a little more information, like how you went about the installation, your source for information and if your root worked properly the first time you did it on stock

It's the whole volume rocker (volume up and down) and the power button, to get into the recovery. Release the power button when it vibrates but keep holding the volumes until your in the recovery.
And make sure you do full wipes when switching roms, wipe data/factory reset, cache, dalvik-cache, and system. Or run Blackhole System Wipe.
When I hold on both volume buttons and press the power button and release it, it just flashes the samsung logo and the screen goes blank.
Basically everything has been working right before, everything was fine. The rom worked perfectly. After I flashed a zip (not a rom, it was just a camera app) I hit reboot in the cwm and then it just wouldn't boot, not into recovery either.
Try holding all of them for a minute or two. Sometimes it takes a bit. From what you have said nothing should have borked your cwm. If all else fails, there's always the option to use Odin to reflash back to stock or reflash cwm.
Stock

Cwm
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591622
I always hold all three until the samsung logo appears, then I release the power button. When CWM comes up I release the volume buttons.
If you can still boot your ROM you should just use terminal emulator. (Download it from the play store if you don't have it on your rom). *requires root*
Type su
confirm root access.
then type "reboot recovery"
That should do it...
OR...
You could just ODIN CWM back on your phone if something got corrupted...
I used odin and followed the instructions.... but now the phone is stuck in a boot loop.
oh thank goodness, I flashed CWM through odin again and it worked. Thank you all.
Hello
I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2507905 to root my new Nexus 5 and flashed this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2528265 onto it, when I tried to boot it up it got stuck in the boot animation so I rebooted into recovery and wiped the data, cache partition and the dalvik cache and tried to boot it up and encountered the same problem so I went to reboot and it wont boot back up not even to the bootloader and when I plug it into my pc its unrecognized and wont even show charging animations
Did I brick my new phone?

Then it is bricked , but I don't really understand how could fromating data, cache and dalvik cache destroy the bootloader . There must be something wrong those recoveries, because you are not the only one
Did you ever check the md5 of the rom you flashed? It could have been a corrupted download
does your bootloader work? hold the vol up/down and power on boot. if u can get to the bootloader u can save it with wugs nexus tool.

If you can get into bootloader you can save it without a tool kit.
Do this if u can't go into recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513937
But if u are able to go into recover, just flash any other rom, make sure you before flashing u do a factory data reset, and after finished wipe cache/dalvik always so u dont go into bootloops.
Through some miracle I was able to get to the bootloader (sat there and held the vol and power buttons for like 3 minutes while my pc dinged and donged as it disconnected and reconnected) but I'm unsure of what to do now. Should I keep trying to load a custom rom on it or just go back to stock? and either or how am I going to get the rom on the internal storage as its still not being recognized by my pc (but I do have fast boot access)

Stay away from tool kits. You got enough problems on your hand

Glad to hear you're back up and running. Google md5 checksum and make sure the roms you download are good. I think that was your problem
Done this to my Nexus 7.. something went wrong when flashing the Rom and ended up somehow cocking up my drivers aswell.. Weird one.
Glad to hear your back up and running buddy.
hello guys,
I have successfully installed the Lollipop release LRX21o... Initially i used the flash-all.sh method... it gave me an error first.. so i clicked flash-all.sh once again.... then it installed everything without any error... Phone booted and everything was working fine.. but when i tried to load the stock recoevery (to wipe everything) pressing the vol + button on recovery screen doesnt get me any where.. all i can see is the android with red triangle.
I tried the manual process of flashing the rom.... same thing happened..
I havent tried any custom recover image.. .So cant tell about others.
Are u guys having the same problem???
Is there any work around?
Have you tried manually reflashing recovery?

The way to get into the stock recovery menu is not by pressing the vol + button.
When you see the Android with the exclamation point, you need to HOLD the power button and then press volume up.
