Do I need to be rooted to install
you need to be rooted to install the boot animation but the wallpapers you can just unzip and place on the sdcard
for the bootanimation, you can can copy it to /data/local (no need to be root or overwrite the default bootanimation )

are you sure about that?
Could you link the system dump? Wanna take a look
Okay, found the dump, started boggling around the files.
S-Launcher2
needs some SE framework bits, and to be placed in /system (shares config files with the stock Launcher). Differences are the following:
- Added favorites menu
- Added settings icon next to the Google search bar on top
- The add widget screen has been a bit finetuned, now you can select default screen by the arrows under the screens
So, after fiddling and getting it to run, the following happened:
- Apps menu can not be opened (some kind of a static library problem, the needed file libark2.so gets the menu killed)
- Favorites part won't work
MediaPlayers
After doing some static library magic, it's starting, but then freezes (no "FC or wait" message until touch)
Visualiser
I did not try anything with it
What worth checking out was done

Yes, the favorites app is what I meant, but it's not a separate app - there's a button next to the "Apps" one in the Launcher, that goes to Favorites, but it's not working either (same Ark2 library stuff).
I'll upload them as soon as I get an all-in-one package ready - currently all the files are scattered around, fixed and unfixed versions, etc.
Don't use CWM then, but ADB to remount /system and write directly to it through USB!
Favourites is a separate app isn't it? Ive linked in the Favorites.apk i found in the sys dump
But anyways nice work so far
and i was originally pushing the apk's in with root explorer but i will try adb thanks
Thanks fonix232 for your work!
any progress here ? or is it a stopped project ?
I really like the idea thanks for the work so far
if you need a hand, just say. if you want a quick sign and zip-align of an app from the dump i can do that, also i can port the theme quite quickly if you aren't already doing that?

I was playing with the emulator and I went to a site and looked at some comments and one commenter stated that he was running JF 1.41 and he had extracted spareparts from the SDK and was running it on it...I would check my history to find the exact site but I have it set to clear upon every exit (I'm a guy...I have a girl...you know how that goes). Anyone know anything about this?
Is it possible and will it work?
It works for RC33, but the only things in it that work are the window transitions. You'd be better off installing the Dev Tools apk found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=453686
The Dev Tools app lets you customize transitions (like Spare Parts) and it also lets you add a bunch of stuff like process limits and CPU usage monitors.

aiight cool, thanks imma try it out.
damn was hoping that option to make the font smaller was in there....oh well.
Spare Parts can also reassign the Red end button, it requires a restart to take effect, but you can change it to
-go home,
-go (home then off),
- go off,
-or do nothing
I also found that I would not auto connect to wifi with it installed, but i cannot confirm that it was SpareParts.
do you have the spare parts apk?

Update!!! Add on zip files can now be flashed through recovery to install!
Update!!! Gutted Hero 1.5 Available with the MR Update!
PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE THREAD BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS!
Ok. There are many changes in this rom. Some may or may not like the changes. I was thinking that I should really live up to the name "Gutted" so I completely removed anything and everything I possibly could. The change log is going to be in the next post.
Also, as stated above this update includes the MR so any issues that were resolved with the update are resolved in this rom.
Now I removed the clock widget in this release but you can easily add it back and the issue with the location and weather not showing should be fixed. Usually it takes a minute or two to find location once pushed but if it doesnt work also push HTCNew.apk and odex and it should work fine.
Oh and before I forget make sure you remember to go into the settings and do a few things. First go to Settings->Data Sunchronization->Google and set up your Google account. Also you may go to Location to set up your GPS and Display to set up the animations.
Finally, I would like to thank MoDaCo for porting the first custom rom ever to the CDMA Hero and making us all very happy people, Amon_RA for his awesome recovery image, Mlign from the Dream community for guidance and pieces of his rom and everyone here at the XDA Communities for being awesome and never giving up.
Downloads:
Gutted Hero 1.5 Full Update (68.5MB)
HTC Apps (Peep, Teeter, PDF Viewer, etc.)
HTC Widgets
Sprint Apps
Stock Apps (Voice Search, Mail, IM, etc.)
System Files (Such as HTCNew.apk, etc.)
Old Downloads: (Dont flash any of these if you want the MR update to stay in tact. These are for Gutted Hero 1.0 only!)
Gutted Hero 1.0 Full Update (70MB)
Android Apps Mini Update (Contains Voice Dialer, IM, Mail)
HTC Apps Mini Update (Contains Footprints, PDFViewer, Teeter, Weather, World Clock)
HTC Widgets Mini Update (Contains Stocks Widget and Footprints Widget)
Sprint Apps Mini Update (Contains.... Sprint Apps)
Changelog
[Gutted Hero 1.5]
Optimized multiple applications as well as Rosie (also reoptimized Rosie since we have the MR update included) such as the Browser, HTC Albums, Phone and Settings
Optimized additional jpegs and pngs that were located various places in the rom
Added Hosts file to block ads for faster web browsing
Added Sprint Visual Voicemail back into the mix
Removed EVERYTHING. Every single HTC widget is now gone, including the clock widget (Look in above post for more)
Removed all other HTC apps that start up on start up including Teeter and Peep
[Gutted Hero 1.0]
Fast
Optimized apps including Rosie.apk (Rosie was 8MB now it's 1.2MB!)
Optimized htc.com.framework.apk and framework-res.apk files
MoDaCo's great and stable 1.1 rom base
Animations from Moto Blur (I think. They are the zooming fading transitions in Mlign's Dream Hero rom)
New Bootscreen (again from Blur I think, it's from Mlign's Dream Hero rom)
Oh and it's fast too
I'm pretty sure the clock is crashing because you removed the weather. They had seemed to be closely tied when I looked at the original sense ui.

Yeah it's easy really. If you want you can take it from my rom and just replace it. The way I did it though is by opening up /system/app/Rosie.apk in an archive manager of some sort (7zip would work). Then I pulled all the pngs out of it and optimized them with optipng. Then I just dragged them back into the apk and your done. There are also jpegs somewhere in there so I deleted all of them except for the first one and with that one I just resaved it and compressed it a bit. You can look in my Rosie.apk if it helps or like I said, your free to just use that one if you want. Just note if you take my framework-res.apk, that is where the anims are stored so you will want to replace my anims folder with MoDaCo's unless you like the new ones.

The rosie linked here is a scant 732 kilobytes:

I had been toying with installing it for awhile, then I downloaded the dxTop home replacement and I don't think I will be using rosie ever again .
EDIT: Great rom idea btw. I would love to see a real "gutted" Hero rom, including the removal of Rosie. MoDaCo has previously posted a neat little script to accomplish this:

Does hitting the "Clock" shortcut in your app drawer not work either?
Speaking of weather and location not working in the clock widget, I'm noticing the same behavior from MoDaCo's 1.1 ROM. I've searched for more information about it but haven't come up with anything yet. Do you have any updates as to why this might not be working?

Will your Gutted ROM install if I have MoDaCo 1.1 installed, running Apps2SD with my SD card partitioned with the three partitions? I have had trouble installed Fresh's ROM because of the Apps2SD partitions.

Since this is based off of MoDaCo's rom yes, Apps2SD works straight out of the box.

Do I need to wipe then flash?
yeah need to wipe before flashing, ok will live with it for a day then I'll get back and post an update
Flashed with the Gutted ROM and I get "HTC Sense has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" at startup. Can't fully boot. I powered down and rebooted and I get the same thing.

My first mod, the LCARS Lockscreen! Make your lockscreen resemble the panels on the Enterprise! Yay! Also included, the original files they replaced.
Ahem...
Anyway, here is a zip file of everything needed to make your own lcars lockscreen. It's a zip because apparently the cabs I had up here didn't work properly... Can't beat placing real files yourself, I guess. haha
-
Instructions:
First- Add files in the icons folder to windows\ directory in phone. Just the icons in the folder, not the full folder. Either use icons in the zip or install the icons cab file. Also, put the lcars.ttf font into the /windows folder.
Second- Add lcarswallpaper.png and LS_LockScene_480x800.cpr to windows\lockscreen.
Third, reset the phone and you're done!
I've also included the original files for what this mod changes in case you want to revert back.
-
I have no lockscreen mods, cookie's home tab lockscreen is set to the default lockscreen so it won't interfere, or anything aside from the memclock app as you can see on the top right of the screenshot so I can't guarantee it will work with any mods. Like I said, This is my first so I apologize if it doesn't work properly on your HD2. As far as mine goes, everything lines up perfectly.
Restart your phone and enjoy!
When you tap the slider to get your notifications, the calendar and clock disappear. I don't know how to keep them their the entire time. If anyone can help with that, I'd appreciate it. \
For people that have flashed their roms only, try either the cpr courtesy of SolShade posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7153849&postcount=58
Or the updated cpr titled "LS_LockScene_480x800 FLASHED ROM.zip" at the bottom of this first post. This one contains minor tweaks to SolShade's working version, plus with my anastasia rom, there was a gap at the bottom that wasn't black, so everything was shuffled down accordingly to fix that.
While I havent tried it out, it looks cool.
Grats.
Now to make an interactive home tab with a captains chair perspective of the bridge.
Dear,
i have downloaded and installed 3 cab. but its not showing anything but only unlock button beside start button only...
Sorry, rasumia. I've posted the full files, not just cabs, so they should work a lot better for you. Guess quickcab doesn't want to play nice with me. Anyway, also has the original files for a manual uninstall also, so no risk of goofing with your lock screen again.
Not somethine I personally would have, but still a great job with putting it together!
thanks for your quick reply...
i have tried as you have mentioned in the Readme.txt but still same problem. only unlock button shows.
i use CHT 1.7.1 with editor...could it be causing this?
it could be better if there is a final cab so it would be all easier for everyone... thanks a lot!
i am personally star trek fan. it would be very nice if we can have a complete theme with icons slider and lock screen...
i know its too much to ask but its just my idea...
I would love a full manilla okudagram refit, but that would be a lot of work getting the layout right... I would almost like to do that, but someone else would have to program it.
I have cookie's home screen 1.70 enabled but all the custom lockscreen stuff disabled, only using the default lock at the default settings there. Your signature says you have a custom rom, maybe that could be a conflict? Looks like in the logs that they did do things to the lock screen. I wouldn't think it would be much different than what I did but who knows. I wish I knew more and could help better but I learned just with tweaking the lock settings. I have a friend that has an hd2 with the stock rom so I'll know soon if it works on his.
huh ?
want to use this but dont know how to replace files in windows DIR, system says cant replace ??????
D.
Works great.
Here on my german stock rom there is no Icon folder, just copy those files into windows folder, the rest as statet in first post, soft reset and there you are.
To copy the files I've used resco explorer
The only thing that doesn't work is the notification button for missed call. I can see it in taskbar but not instead of button comm1
Live long and prosper

Which files won't it replace? The icons? Try adding the lockscreen480x800.cpr file and wallpaper and restarting. If it changes the layout to match the wallpaper, then try the cab here to install the icons.
When I did this originally on my phone, I copied the files onto the storage card, then with the phone, copied and pasted the cpr file into the lockscreen folder. I hope any of this helps.

good luck !

Sorry no luck at all...may when it is completed i will give a try... thanks a lot anyway...
Very nice mate. I hope you can get the notifications showing all the time, like you said. Also, it would be better if the taskbar could be either removed or replaced with something else of equal functionality. It just seems a shame to have it not fullscreen.
Other than that though, very nice indeed!
Incidentally, I used total command to copy the files around and didn't use activesync to copy the font, and it works fine for me.

I turned off the CHT lockscreen and turned on the default lock screen (and then a soft reset, because that's what the editor does then). Then I just copied all the files into the relevant locations, as described in the 1st post.
I did copy all the files onto my storage card first and then used total commander to copy them onto the device, which meant that I could overwrite any existing files without windows moaning at me.
Incidentally, I do have both lockscreens working independantly. I turned the CHT lockscreen back on and that is now my default lockscreen (from the home tab menu, or from pressing the end button), but if I go to the start menu and lock from there then I get this lovely lockscreen
(I do then get the CHT one as well, when I unlock this one, so it's not perfect but at least I can see both of them working.)
hasn't worked for me, used the zip from the first post, when i lock the device i get the default unlock soft button and no lock screen atall
Can anyone offer some insight on the SDK emulator? I'm trying to test out a new framework-res.apk/services.jar for white notification/clock text on froyo. trying to push it to an AVD(emulator) but getting errors:
"C:\Users\pwner>adb push C:\Users\pwner\Desktop\Theme\framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
failed to copy 'C:\Users\pwner\Desktop\Theme\framework-res.apk' to '/system/framework/framework-res.apk': Out of memory"
can't find anything about this on the web. sorry, know it's a noob question but i'm very much so looking forward to having a black theme back on my nexus + froyo. i'm also going to be developing my own themed* ROM which depends on white text.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey thanks for the advice guys! Well, I've actually gotten a ported Kspec theme set up on my phone right now. Only problem is that I just pushed the framework and launcher and apps to my phone using adb push. so no update.zip
So what I could really use some advice on would be:
1. Setting up my PC for signing apps that I modify. I use windows 7 though. none of the articles about setting up signing seem to pretain to me, including stericsons guide
2. Creating update.zip files to flash(sure i can find more info on this in the forum but with out signing ability not too much point right now).
3. using apktool to decompile apps to edit XML files. this is so i can change the text on the music app's text color to white(so now playing shows up properly in the notification bar) along with other apps I use so I can theme and change font colors such as touteir, etc.
other than that, I'll be working on images to get my custom rom out! This is what I have on my phone ATM:
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT MY THEME. just ported it from brendank's kspec monster theme. i hope he wont mind that i'm sharing screenies of what i'm using on my phone here, and i have no intention on releasing his theme at all...i am using it as a temp theme so i don't go insane with all the white on the phone till i make my theme. anyways, screen shots attached.
edit:
just for anyone who cares, my theme will be very similar to the kspec monster theme(all black, with transparencies), but will have blue high lights to match the blue on the clock on my home screen.
Okay, there's a fair bit to answer there so perhaps we just take it one step at a time...
Windows 7 is not a problem. You will need to install the Android SDK and the included USB drivers. Once you've done this test that your phone can connect to your computer by USB, if not you'll need to diagnose that (that's a search).
You need the JRE (Jave Runtime Environment). You probably have this, type java.exe at a command prompt to make sure it exists, if not then download and install (any Windows version).
The you need to check that adb (Android Device Bridge) is working. Drop to a command prompt and go your SDK/tools dir and type adb devices with your phone plugged in via USB. It should display the serial number of your connected phone. If it does not then you need to diagnose your adb problems (that's a search).
The you need to autosign (search this forum) and apktool (search google), these will allow you to decompile/compile/sign apks and also sign update.zips.
Once you have all of that and you're familiar with how it basically works then post back here with some of your experiences and we'll take it to the next step.
Please also look in the Chef's Central sub-forum, there's lot's of helpful information (including many of the required tools) in there.

I love the Notification bar on that theme... You think I could get the string for that or maybe the theme to extract the framework-res.apk and services.jar?
Do you love creating icons and mods but just can't get them on your new Gingerbread update? This script is for you.
It's a modded Framework script that has been in the community for quite some time. I updated it to work with the SystemUi.apk found in Gingerbread.
allows you to modify your status bar icons (Does not modify the battery icon, That is still located in framework-res.apk)
Instructions in the zip file Enjoy!
Note: Don't try to flash this zip. Extract it to you PC okay?
NEW VERSION: Works with all of the EVO Gingerbread Frameworks now
This allows applying full customization including Battery Mods
Will this allow me to enable transparent notification tray background?
I've been having trouble getting that to work on 2.3
Provided you have your xml files and png's edited properly. It should work
This tool simply provides a quick interface to decompile/Recompile/Install changes to the SystemUI.apk

Windows...
The readme file say this needs clockworkmod rec, anyone test it with amon ra?
Hmm, could this be used to actually remove some of the Sense icons? Namely the useless alarm icon (which shows up even if you have an alarm for 5 days from today) and the Location Services reticle icon?
Many ROMs remove the latter, I actually followed a guide to using smali for removing the alarm icon on my current Froyo ROM but I guess they changed the location of all that stuff on GB... I haven't really taken a look at it to see if I could figure out the new locations on my own, not much time to tinker lately, if the script can automate that task it'd be awesome...
You'd still have to edit the xml's or make transparent icons. I would assume that what you need is in the decompiled layout directory. I could be wrong. I wanted people to be able to take an existing mod and apply it to their phone without having to memorize multiple command lines. Any xml editing at this point is strictly manual
Ultimately yes I want the script to have the ability to install preedited "mod packs" to simplify the process of applying common mods. Where a user would select the desired mods ala-carte and the script would combine them and compile a new framework
I believe I did it thru an xml edit last time since a transparent icon would just leave a blank space, erich I've never had. But yea, seems I'll just have to dig in and figure out the equivalent directory in GB... Might just wait until I upgrade to the EVO 3D.
