[Q] Is there a quick n easy guide to know what apps can be moved to SD Card? - General Questions and Answers

I *think* I'm correct in, that if an app has a widget, to not move it to SD Card as when you reboot, it won't work right.
What other *rules* are there to follow.
as you might guess I have everything in internal memory atm and would like to move some things over.

yes if you have froyo you can see which apps are allowed to be moved to your sd card but i personally use titanium backup or link2sd to move my apps to sd card.Also yep if you move a widget or an app with widgets(like music players) they might not work

I use too Titanium

It's best to only move downloaded apps to sdcard with the exception of widgets and their related apps. Games are what people mainly move to sd since they can be big. Do not attempt to move any system apps.

agree with the last two posts...
get titanium, as it's allowed me to move even apps that didn't seem to support it.
avoid moving system related apps...unless you're sure they're crapware...though then you're better removing...which titanium can also do...
one thing to keep in mind...not sure how difinitive this is, but have found and read that once you move an app, if it has a widget, the widget will no longer work once moved.

use apps2sd application from market

He doesnt want to know how to move apps to the sdcard he wants to know which ones are safe....
Dont move system apps
Dont move apps of which you use widgets
For the rest there is no sure way to know which ones can be moved, but there is no harm in just trying it.
Move it, if it acts up, move it back.
Just because you CAN move it, it does not mean it will work.

setting-application or download a move to sd App on market

De-Bloat list for stock rom

I don't know if there is a thread already for this. Can anyone list the apps and bloatware that are safe to freeze using titanium backup on the stock rom...

Download Scott's clean Rom, much easier then doing it yourself. Completely stock, debloated, tweaked, and nice mods if you want them.

Additional debloat!
A helpful tool I use to clear up space and make the system faster is an app called "DiskView", downloadable free from Play Store. It analyzes all partitions and lists directories/files and a percentage bar of how much space they're taking. With this I found a bunch of instructional how-to videos in the system/media/video/GuidedTour folder. Also, taking up some space are the hidden Voice Recognition language packs under /system/VODB. Delete all the language code folders you don't want. Also, this using like 10MB but also a privacy concern, there was a face recognition database under /system/lib. If you don't use the preloaded Swype keyboard, even after you uninstalled it, there's an extra database under /system/lib/libSwypeCore.so. Delete.
If you have a Galaxy Note, it might be worth noting that the S Note templates that you could never seem to delete can now be removed permanently. They actually use up a lot of space. First, delete the templates from your usual S Note folder on your SD card, obviously. Then navigate to /system/preload and /system/preloaddata and delete everything related to S Note in there. For me there was nothing other than S Note stuff. Should be the templates in one and a database in the other. Once you reboot, they'll never come back!
Enjoy!

[APP][2.2+] SDCard Watcher - Find out which apps clutter your SDCard

SDCard Watcher
Market Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.desaster.sdcardwatcher
Description / Reasoning
Anyone who installs a lot of apps will soon find their SDCard cluttered with strange directories that don't seem to relate to any app you know. You could just remove them all, but how do you know which directories are from apps you are still using, and might contain some important data?
Since the sdcard filesystem lacks ownership info, there's really no easy way of knowing which app to blame. This app is my approach to the problem.
Basically the app lets you monitor any chosen directory for changes, and when a new file or directory is created, it checks which app is currently visible to the user, and saves this information in a database. This way, next time some app leaves an obscure directory rotting on your sdcard, you will know exactly which app to blame.
Why should you care?
Actually, you probably shouldn't. The extra bits of data often don't take any significant space on your memory card. However, it irritates me, and this app gives me a bit more of a sense of control. The XDA forum is probably the best place for me to post this app, since I know there are at least a few other like-minded people here who care about tweaking little things like these
Battery usage
The app's background process uses the kernel's inotify feature to catch changes in the filesystem, and thus uses virtually no processing power, and will not drain your battery.
Reliability
There are essentially two ways for an app to run a background service; as a background service, and as a background service with a notification icon. My app supports both ways, but the default is to run without a notification icon.
I am still unsure if android lets the service run reliably enough without the notification icon, so if you think you're missing file changes, I'd love to hear about it. In any case, the notification icon can be enabled in the settings and should help with the issue (should there be an issue).

Salvage internal memory?

Today I got an idea: move my pictures and videos to /tmp, so I can salvage a lot of free space

. I only use about 1.x GB for apps
Is this a good idea, is it safe?
Will the system sometime clean up that dir?

Bad idea!
/tmp is cleared on every reboot.
If you want to use the internal storage, then use root explorer or similar and create a dir in /data and call it pics or something then store them there. The issue will be though that most gallery apps do not work with internal storage, you will not be able to look at them on the phone.
I don't get why everyone really wants to use the internal apps storage for personal storage, the issue is that any internal storage gets wiped on either a reboot if it is /tmp or if it is /data then a factory reset will wipe it.
Just go get a class 4 32GB sdcard for pocket change now, and be done with it.
Just my two cents, pence, etc...
Yes, I agree. 32 gigs are very cheap these days. If you look for a deal, you could get one for as low as 10 bucks. I've got one and I'm not close to filling it up.
WORD JIM!!! I DONT KNOW WHAT ID DO WITHOUT MINE!!

I'm gonna be hard headed and try this 64GB MicroSDXC out......
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313310
Since I created the topic, my files in /tmp have not been deleted.
Not really about the sdcard, it's about doing some tricks against the system
Furthermore, QuickPic loads images and vids in internal mem faster than my sdcard.

[Q] SD Card Fills Up Too Fast

I have a question for everyone.
Are you guys having problems with the internal sd card on your one s?
My sd card gets filled up really quick. I dont have alot on it. Only About 2.6gb of Music & 1gb of Videos
Thats all... The MAX I have is about 4GB with some roms and gapps etc.
If you guys had this issue before how did you guys fix it?
I just barely re-formated my sd card to fat 32 on my mac.
Thanks in advanced

I've been in the same spot. I didn't think I put much stuff on my phone and kept running out of space. Then I found an app from the playstore called "Disk Usage." It's a graphical representation of your phones storage so you can actually see what's taking up space. In my case it's almost always forgetting to delete old back ups. You should try it.
Check it out.

[Q] SD card cannot be detected when browsing as root.

Good day, fellow XDA citizens.
Here's my problem. My phone's external storage cannot be detected by apps when they are browsing as root. See screens:
This is what it looks like when the apps are browsing as root: (i.e. granted su permissions)
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This is what it looks like when the apps are not browsing as root: (and the way things are supposed to be)
Note that these issues are not limited only to this Script Manager app, but others as well, including Android Tuner, TiB, and the likes (most apps that access the external storage)
I've noticed that fuse in external storage becomes "RO rootfs" when browsing as root, and fuse remains intact for internal storage whether or not it was given su permissions.
I've tried googling around for answers, a few articles and discussions mention fuse but I can't make a certain sense out of them, most likely because I am a scrub on linux usage.
What things can I do to try fix this issue? Any help will be much appreciated.
regards, Ocenyx
SD card not detected
I have Samsung Wave2 GT-s8530. whenever I am installing badadroid on my set whatever the ROM is my external SD card was not detected. it showed 0 MB only. Details of my phone and installation as follows:
Installed at Downloader v5.67
Fat32 is the format of SD card.
Anyone please?
By the way, this phone is running 4.4.2 version of Android. This issue was not present in 4.2.2 before.
To anyone else having this issue,
It seems to be a well-known symptom of Kitkat for MT6582 devices. I'm not certain if this problem exists on any other chip.
While we wait for any official fix for SuperSU app regarding this issue (if any), the only fix I have ever known to have worked is by using KingRoot. I'm aware that many advanced android people always discourage users from installing chinese stuff but it addresses the issue at least. It's much much better than living through this inconvenience.
