Weird Behavior after flashing n' moding - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

hello again
I recently joined the community looking for a way to improve my device and actually achieved GREAT SUCCESS XD
I flashed a stock KJ6 Build, Rooted, and added the KJ1 kernel.
After that i installed the init.d and the Adrenaline XIX and 12 and everything worked LIKE A CHARM!!!!!
This morning I added the "ICBINB KJ6 add on for airflips" (Following Airfluip1's advice in this post ) BUT.. all of a sudden my device started acting slower then before, not even working the Advanced Task Killer.
I rebooted many times my device with no avail so here are my questions:
1. Is it possible that some of the mods are incompatible with eachother?..
2 If this is the case, what can i do to correct this?

I haven't look @ Airflip's ROM instructions but whenever I flash a new ROM, I always make sure voodoo is disabled if I was using it and do a factory data reset.
Try the reset. You will lose texts, contacts (they will sync back if you sync with google or Tmobile), memos, and you will have to re-set up the phone.

Hmm.. hard reset is quite drastic i think.
Update: I managed to install the Go Launcher EX and now pretty much everything went back to normal, so i wonder if the issue had anything to do with the KW actually.

[Q] Unable to text unless my battery is in the red after the offical update

Long time lurker, but i dont think i have posted before...so sorry if this is on the wrong place/already been answered, if that is the case i would love be be redirected to where i should go.
Anyways, after updating this morning, everything worked fine other that some occasion lag. But when i opened up handcent, it was just a black screen. so i reinstalled it, and still no dice. the default messaging app had the same problem. If someone texted me i wouldnt get it, and there was no way for me to send out a text. then, when my battery went down to red, all of a sudden it worked like normal. i was able to charge it and even when the battery was full it still worked. However, when i reset my phone, it stopped working again, and resumed working when my battery got to red. Im pretty sure those are the only symptoms i noticed...Any ideas on what is going on/what i can do to remedy it?
And fyi, i was rooted before the upgrade and have rooted since. I had oclf, but disabled it before i upgraded.
Shameless bump, I really need help
Only thing I can think of is a bad install of the update. I would suggest going back to 2.1 using odin and then reinstalling the froyo update

So step one of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
Then follow the installation of 2.2 as samsungs website outlines? Would that require me to restore all of my apps and settings from tibu again?
Thanks

Yea if you are going to flash back to odin you will need to back up all user apps using titanium backup. Make sure you do not restore any system apps though as that can cause problems. Also you will lose your texts so I would recommend backing them up. I use sms backup+

My friend had the same problem and had to go back to 2.1 and re-install the update and then it worked. Seems like the update didn't install correctly on a handful of Captivates.
okay so i still haven't done this because of how long restoring everything with tibu takes, but if I am gonna have to go through this process again, should i just make my first venture into flashing a custom rom? Am i correct in thinking that flashing wont be messed up because of the current glitch i have because it all reverts back to stock as the first step anyways?

Visual Voice mail vanished

I rooted my TB the other day for the first time and my visual voice mail app is gone the icon is still there but when I click on it it just brings me to my messages

A little more info would help alot. Rom you are running, Froyo or gingerbread ETC. The more info you give the more likely it will be someone will know how to fix your issue. My first suggestion would be to reflash what ever rom you flashed a second time but make sure to wipe cache, and do a factory reset before flashing. Also do not flash any roms you download from rom manager with the rom manager app its self if you are using it. It has some known issues flashing on the thunderbolt for some reason that causes alot of weird issues.

[Q] MS Exchange on Eagleblood 1.9 error

Hi i'm having a problemo here with adding an exchange server to eagleblood
eagleblood 1.9 is giving me "The application Email (process com.android.email) has stopped unexpectedly." Strangley enough it finds the server and connects fine when i go to set it up, its when i get to the last screen of the set up and click next when it errors.
I've tried quite a bit of stuff. clearing cache of email app, clearing data, cache, dalvik, reformating, re-flashing. clearing out all my email (i just archived then moved the archive from outlook folder) said never get emails (rather than auto (push)).....
Pretty big fan of this rom, but this is a show stopper, anyone else have this issue?
restore your last rom and back up the email app with data, then flash EB 1.09 and restore the email with data.
The other guys is harder, restart, do a full wipe, install rom, then gapps(u must have these or won't be as awesome as it supost to), then the Trinity kernal, then reboot, everything will work and will be alot faster

ok well i've already done all of cwa 542 recomendations, those are the steps i follwed in first place. First i will try that again, then if no luck i will flash back to my backup of my stock and then data that (not entirely sure how to do that lol).
Do i need to flash the kernal? i thought it came built into eb 1.9?
what i've been doing:
wiping cache, delvik, system, data
flashing eb 1.9, latest gaaps..then booting.
I think this time i will try booting in before gaaps, then trying emial, then gaaps. lol
I will keep posted. thanks alot you guys big help.
*edit
So i tried again, all the proper steps no luck. What is the easiest way to backup an app?
now i come crawling back to your idea lol.
I'm pretty new to this...but i do program : )
Should i use titanium, or is there something better? any way i can do this non-3rd party. if not which is best i hear alot about titanium.
titainum is probably the best That is what I use and I have moved data and apps from all different roms with no problem using it.
ok I may try later tonight. in the mean time i flashed xboarders, which is great on battery. If i could be convinced that eaglesblood 1.9 was as good as bloated stock i would do it, but it appeared worse to me for the maybe 2.5 hours i had it installed and was browsing ect. it went from 100 to 63...still i will probably do it b/c the speeds are awesome.
wish i could flash xboarders with trinity kernal, thatd be sweet.

[Q] GPS won't work at all

I rooted and installed the Gingerclone ROM, and now my GPS won't work at all. I've tried a number of apps that are supposed to fix it/test it but nothing has fixed it. It just says 'locating' forever and never actually locates me. I've tried rebooting, doing a battery pull, and even waiting a few days and trying again. Would I need to wipe everything and start from scratch to fix it? If so, how would I go about backing up all of my apps/settings/data? Does a Nandroid backup do that? Help would be much appreciated!
The easiest way to fix your issue would be to do a full wipe and reflash. If that doesn't work then you may have an issue with the hardware on your phone. The full wipe and reflash should work fine though...perhaps check the md5 checksum before you flash to make sure you don't have a corrupted download of the rom.
For backups it seems most people prefer using the app titanium backup. It allows you to backup and restore everything from apps to data. Its one of the best backup/restore apps I've used though it does require root to run.
I use astro file manager to backup and restore apps everytime I flash a new rom.
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA App
So what is Nandroid backup? Would that do my apps and settings or do I need to use Titanium?
A nandroid backup would restore everything on your phone (settings, apps, data, etc.) to the state the were when you made the nandroid backup. This is accessible through cwm recovery or through rom manager.
Titanium is a bit more user friendly and has more options to backup/restore.

Ah okay then. I suppose I'll do both, just to be safe
Good luck with that! And remember if you're using a rom with the voodoo lagfix on it that you disable the lagfix before flashing another rom or you'll softbrick your phone.
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA App
I didn't know that, thanks! That is in recovery, right?
Yeah the option is under "voodoo" in recovery. You also need to reboot the phone after toggling the lagfix on or off for it to take effect.
It'll have the womans robotic voice saying stuff when the phone is booting up and what not..
If I'm not mistaken there are also a few voodoo control apps on the market that you can toggle the lagfix on and off with without going into recovery..but again you must always reboot for the changed settings to take affect.

Ack! I just did a full wipe and reinstalled the ROM with no luck, the GPS still doesn't work

My next suggestion would be either to flash a different rom and test if the gps works..and if that doesn't work then I'd attempt to Odin back to stock and then reroot/flash the gingerclone rom.
If that doesn't work then I don't what to tell you...maybe check through the gingerclone thread to see if anyone's had that same issue.
Okay, so this doesn't really make sense to me, but I was just messing around with settings, and I think what was causing it to not work was having 'network location' enabled - it was using the location from the cell tower and wifi, and for some reason I think that was stopping GPS's more accurate location from showing up. Either way, I think it is working now - I'll be checking it when I go for a drive later tonight...

Very weird. Without having the device I can't help. I added a GPS mod to my Rom. Should make it lock much faster.

Try FasterFix, it worked great for me forum.xda-developers .com/showthread.php?t=825717
remove the space of course, I'm not sure if I can post links
I had tried that, didn't seem to do anything for me. I've worked out that I can get GPS to work by disabling network location. It's not the best fix, but it works for now.

[Q] Dialer not working on many ROM's!! Any solutions?

Multiple roms, Hellfire, cm7, and a couple other gingerbread roms, simply can't open the dialer! I have been trying to fix this for a couple of hours, and it is quite frustrating. I haven't tested all the roms, but the ones I have, no luck!
When I click dialer, it will just open to a black screen, then close back to the previous home screen. However, this doesn't occur with the back up of eaglesblood ics rom that I made a nandroid backup of prior to all this tweaking.
I don't know what causes these things to happen, but it might be relevant (I have no idea if it is or not) that I did for the first time a system format b/c of instructions listed to flash a specific rom.
A simple search for a stable rom with wifi calling that DOESN'T drop for my dad's g2x, has turned into its own little fiasco..
Any input is greatly encouraged, thanks!

Are you wiping data, cache, dalvik cache, and system before flashing? If you don't you're bound to have problems coming from that stupid stock ROM.
WILL WIPE EVERYTHING, MAKE SURE TO HAVE BACKUP
Yeah, I do every time!

Try this to wipe everything and then try the dialer, because I have no problem with my dialers

^ I agree -- very possible.
Also, are you going from different versions of Android built into ROMS?
Say Android 2.3.4 to 2.3.7? -- System App data from Titanium Backup will not work if ROM is based on different Android Version.
I would download G2x scrubber -- really simplifies the WIPING part. Just flash zip and good to install another ROM.

You might also want to look at which Kernel you're also running.
Thanks everyone, I'm sure one of those things will work. I will try them all when I get home!
