I rooted and installed the Gingerclone ROM, and now my GPS won't work at all. I've tried a number of apps that are supposed to fix it/test it but nothing has fixed it. It just says 'locating' forever and never actually locates me. I've tried rebooting, doing a battery pull, and even waiting a few days and trying again. Would I need to wipe everything and start from scratch to fix it? If so, how would I go about backing up all of my apps/settings/data? Does a Nandroid backup do that? Help would be much appreciated!
The easiest way to fix your issue would be to do a full wipe and reflash. If that doesn't work then you may have an issue with the hardware on your phone. The full wipe and reflash should work fine though...perhaps check the md5 checksum before you flash to make sure you don't have a corrupted download of the rom.
For backups it seems most people prefer using the app titanium backup. It allows you to backup and restore everything from apps to data. Its one of the best backup/restore apps I've used though it does require root to run.
I use astro file manager to backup and restore apps everytime I flash a new rom.

So what is Nandroid backup? Would that do my apps and settings or do I need to use Titanium?
A nandroid backup would restore everything on your phone (settings, apps, data, etc.) to the state the were when you made the nandroid backup. This is accessible through cwm recovery or through rom manager.
Titanium is a bit more user friendly and has more options to backup/restore.

Ah okay then. I suppose I'll do both, just to be safe
Good luck with that! And remember if you're using a rom with the voodoo lagfix on it that you disable the lagfix before flashing another rom or you'll softbrick your phone.
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA App
I didn't know that, thanks! That is in recovery, right?
Yeah the option is under "voodoo" in recovery. You also need to reboot the phone after toggling the lagfix on or off for it to take effect.
It'll have the womans robotic voice saying stuff when the phone is booting up and what not..
If I'm not mistaken there are also a few voodoo control apps on the market that you can toggle the lagfix on and off with without going into recovery..but again you must always reboot for the changed settings to take affect.

My next suggestion would be either to flash a different rom and test if the gps works..and if that doesn't work then I'd attempt to Odin back to stock and then reroot/flash the gingerclone rom.
If that doesn't work then I don't what to tell you...maybe check through the gingerclone thread to see if anyone's had that same issue.
Okay, so this doesn't really make sense to me, but I was just messing around with settings, and I think what was causing it to not work was having 'network location' enabled - it was using the location from the cell tower and wifi, and for some reason I think that was stopping GPS's more accurate location from showing up. Either way, I think it is working now - I'll be checking it when I go for a drive later tonight...

Well again.... Im about to lose my minda because of this damn thing! Now I'm getting a fc every 5 sec... Process acore? My tab is essentially dead? Can't do anything author a fc, can't go into settings our anything... I want to smash this thing! I just got it working well and now this? Anyone know what that process is? I cam do anything with it now, cant load a new rom because I can't get into settings. Its just in an intimate loop of fc. The real disaster is im in idaho, where I got it as a gift, and I'm flying back to nc in the morning.. Can't take out back before I leave..
Anyone know anything about the fc?

Well I don't have cw on the tab, its still stock.. I'm hoping I can plug into a pc, download it and get root that way? Then possibly load a new rom... Otherwise I'm screwed.

Maybe you should restore it back to factory settings...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
That will bring it back to how it was out of the box, then start over.
If there are still issues then possible hardware problems?
Had this issue, even after NV flash. I was able to get CW (even with the fc) on and wipe, and partition the sd to 2gb. That seems to have cleaned it up.
This forum is the greatest on the entire internet!
Glad to hear you got it working. Imo, your issue is probably the worst thing about running stock - if you get these FC's, there's really no fix unless you take the risk of using a mod.
I believe it's the same reason why Staples pulled the devices - too many returns due to FC's OOTB.
Yes, it's too bad they did not include the "easy" button to reset to stock. Even with the upgrade, it may be enough to ultimately kill off the device. With all of the recovery images on my laptop now, I can put humpty dumpty back with ease. It's good for me, I plan to watch for returns. I could use a couple more of these.
I got cw installed and vegan, the table works like I'd expect now! This thing is awesome! Thanks for the help.
A resolution
I had this same issue happen to me on a new ROM not factory. I couldn't get into settings either to do the contact wipe. But Titanium was installed on it and I was able to wipe the contact data through there. Just an FYI if anyone else runs across the same problem.
Thanks to you Snyper....I just picked up my tab after placing it down for 10 mins and saw this error. Just a quick search in the thread and there is the answer. Man this forum rocks!!!
Just happened to me running vegan 3
clearing contact info worked like a champ!
thanks guys
I have the same issue. But, I don't have CW installed, Titanium won't load up. How can I manually get the clockword APK file on there to attempt to install it?
Any other ideas?

Hi,
Having had this acore FC problem last night, I have a couple of questions:
1) In your post above, you seem to have thought that this only happens with stock TNT. But, in this thread, it seems like others that are not running stock TNT also encounter this problem. So, it this a potential problem with all ROMs, or just with stock TNT?
2) From reading through and other threads, one fix when it happens is to clear the Contacts and ContactsProvider data, either using Settings, if you can get to it, or using Titanium, if you have it. I'm assuming that what both of those steps do is to clear out the tables in SQLlite for the Contacts and ContactsProvider apps. Is that right? If it is, do you, or does anyone know the command lines that would do the same thing?
The reason for the latter question is that when I had the problem, I could still do adb shell. If there was an sqllite command I could have used to clear the problem, I definitely would have done that, instead of having to install CWM, re-partition, and re-flash stock 3452!
Thanks,
Jim
Rooted last night with Buddy's and so for everything seems to be working. I am assuming it was a success. I installed Titanium Backup and it allows me to remove the ATT bloatware etc...Is there anything I need to check to verify I am rooted and if so, correctly? I went through all my apps that I restored from ""MyBackup" app and everything is working.
I guess the next step is to learn how to use the installed ROM Manager and Superuser. Not sure what it is all involved but willing to learn. I am using Buddy's stock ROM that came with the program. Any negatives using this ROM? Before trying others, I have to figure out how to flash a ROM. I will be looking for a ROM without bloatware and sense. I use launcher pro and will stick with it. I prefer a smooth fast and solid performance.
I think my first mod would be to change my battery indicator in my notification bar and customize this area a bit. Any suggestions were to get started?
Thanks
If you want fast and stable w/ being senseless, di11i's Gingerbeast is as good as it gets. If you want fast, stable w/ a lil more tweaking capabilities, CM7 is for you.
I use both on a regular basis and each has their pros.
Tx
There are guides on every rom thread for flashing roms. If you don't do well with reading instructions and are more hands on I found this video and it helped me the first time.

Good job mayne. I used ATTN's method and the WiFi did not work with the ROM in that kit. I posted here asking about it right about the point where you are, waited 1/2 hour, said eff it, and flashed one of the custom roms from the Dev section, which fixed the issue.
I noticed my data speeds were not as good as stock, and I live in a backhauled area and was getting >7Mbps down stock. I noticed I didn't have the latest ATT OTA radio, so I read some more in the radio thread, and flashed the latest ATT radio and RIL's, and the data speeds I was accustomed to returned.
The ROM I flashed is really really nice. IT is Sense based, like the stock AT&T. Some of the ROM's people will suggest are basic Android UI, while others are Sense based. I don't mind the Sense. It is technically a memory hog, and I only use one of the Scenes provided, but I like it. There are many ROM's to chose from that are basically stable. I never got stock GPS to perform to my expectations. However, the first ROM I flashed combined with the latest OTA radio amazing fixed the effin GPS!! Wow it's really responsive now.
My first ROM had/has a couple bugs. One was taken care of with re-flashing the ROM I chose again. The ROM I have now has one really small minor bug. I am living with it, as stock also had more major issues (GPS). The bug is associated with the kernel. This is another thing one can flash and change. I tried another kernel out vs. the ROM, but decided t had other variables with the performance I was experiencing, while other posters here love the optional kernel. Choices choices...
Be careful with Titanium back up. In general, do NOT use it to back up system data as part of the ROM flashing process. Usually flashing different ROM's from different dev's require full system wipe, like you did with the rooting process. It looks tempting to use, but multiple issues are discerned by reading the thread if this selection is used in TB. I suggest just using it for App backup, and if a problem with the flashing, revert to your Nandroid backup of your last functional ROM. Learn about that too....
Anyway good luck. I doubt youare going to stay with whatever ROM is in Bubby's kit...so just trying to give you a few pointers...since you asked , and because I like this sentence in your OP", "Not sure what it is all involved but willing to learn." yes you will...the radio thread, the one stickied page of this forum, are invaluable places to start and bookmark...

A few things that will make your flashing easier, because once you flash one custom ROM, you will end up flashing 10...
Create a Nandroid backup before flashing a new ROM. To create a Nandroid backup, follow these steps:
1. Get into Clockwork recovery. You can do this one of two ways: Go into ROM Manager and select boot into recovery. The other way is to boot the device while holding down the volume key. After the device boots, you'll see an option for Recovery. Select that. Also, some ROMs allow you to go into recovery by holding down the power button then selecting recovery.
2.Once in Clockwork recovery, select backup and restore, then backup.
The backup will be stored on your SD card in the \clockwork\backup directory.
This type of backup has EVERYTHING in it (except the radio). If you restore from this backup, and boot your device, it will be exactly as it was when you backed up--all apps, data, settings, etc.
I recommend backing up the backup directory to your PC. The backups are pretty big.
You'll end up with a whole collection of backups (I have about 10.), one for each ROM you've flashed. If you decide one day (or hour ) that you want to use a different ROM, all you have to do is copy the backup from your PC to your SD card and then restore from within recovery (wipe data/cache/dalvik first ).
...
Do not restore data using Titanium Backup if the backup was performed on a different ROM. It can really screw things up.
...
A lot of people ask about backing up and restoring SMS and MMS. The BEST way I have found is via Handcent sms. This is a great free replacement for the stock messaging app. It has an option to backup and restore both SMS and MMS messages. It work really, really well. The backup and restore does have a cost though. I think 3.99 a year.
To me, it's completely worth it. Using this with a Nandroid restore, and I can be up on a new ROM in 5 minutes, with all data up to date.

Hey isn't the ROM in buddy's kit froyo? If you want gingerbread you're gonna have to flash a custom ROM...
I am sending this thread with the WiFi hotspot teathering to my PC, that I opted not to enable stock because I have an unlimited data plan and I think paying 20 or whatever they want is stupid. My home internet is dropping in and out this morning for some reason..wah lah! I got tethering to phone's network and internet access! Woo hoo! And jsut as fast as my home WiFi. This is exactly one of the things I had in mind when rooting this phone. This is awesome!!!! Oh but back to the OP...
Oh yeah!!!! If you flash a new ROM, or even notice with bubby's kit ROM now, that data speed is not what you expect, or doesn't work at all, check the APN settings under Settings>Wireless Networks>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names. The ROMs as flashed may not have all the settings correct. There are posts and threads about setting the proper APN's for proper AT&T network access and it's easy schmeezee. Just one little thing that took me a few minutes to figure out initially while I was getting data speed of 200kbps down vs. the 7Mbps I'm used to...

No. Do not restore the Nandroid back up. That is for if you have problems with your new ROM, and need to get to a known good restore point. It is there if you need it....start checking out your new ROM .
ok think I might have it
Rom manger
reboot in recovery
backup and restore
advanced restore
pick my download
????
Then it ask, resore boot or restore system or restore data or restore casche or restore sd-ext
I am thinking I need to pick "restore sd-ext" correct???????? to download my nabdriod backup???
Ok then backing up and re grouping
The new rom is installed, it looks nice. Now I want to reload my apps and system settings?
Using TB to restore my apps at this time. It loading.....
I am curious to know what other people do to restore apps and associated data. Do you go to market and download all from "my apps" or do you restore from an app backup? Or is there a better way? Can you help a noob out?

I agree TIBU restore apps and app data and be done. Only a few times the app data isn't restored when going from sense, touchwiz to a CM based rom but never had other issues. Flash rom the. Restore apps and data fro. TIBU pro and walk away whole it restores.
I don't bother backing up anything besides my contacts. I restore those first, connect my necessary accounts, and change whatever settings I need/want changed. Then I reinstall my apps.
Well, I agree 100% with Zel and Pirateghost there....Titanium Backup and later restore missing apps and data. As good practice, usually make nandroid back ups just in case.
The first time you flash a new rom is inevitable to sweat as a pig thinking that you will have to go back to your Motorla V3 is something goes wrong....
I don't flash as often as I used to so I use a newly flashed Rom to only reinstall the apps I actually use often. If not ill have a bunch of them I just downloaded and I'm not gonna use.
Plus reinstalling the apps myself and not titanium gives me a fresh Rom feeling lol, yea I'm weird.

I use very few apps myself, anyway, so it only takes a few minutes to set back up after a reflash. Most of those apps, I keep pretty close to default regardless. I run pretty minimal, so it's almost more trouble to take the time to keep everything backed up and organized for my devices than it is to just reinstall the apps each time I flash.
The posts here have given me a bit more to think about as far as TIBU, though, so I might take a deeper look into it soon!

Multiple roms, Hellfire, cm7, and a couple other gingerbread roms, simply can't open the dialer! I have been trying to fix this for a couple of hours, and it is quite frustrating. I haven't tested all the roms, but the ones I have, no luck!
When I click dialer, it will just open to a black screen, then close back to the previous home screen. However, this doesn't occur with the back up of eaglesblood ics rom that I made a nandroid backup of prior to all this tweaking.
I don't know what causes these things to happen, but it might be relevant (I have no idea if it is or not) that I did for the first time a system format b/c of instructions listed to flash a specific rom.
A simple search for a stable rom with wifi calling that DOESN'T drop for my dad's g2x, has turned into its own little fiasco..

Any input is greatly encouraged, thanks!

Are you wiping data, cache, dalvik cache, and system before flashing? If you don't you're bound to have problems coming from that stupid stock ROM.
WILL WIPE EVERYTHING, MAKE SURE TO HAVE BACKUP
Yeah, I do every time!

Try this to wipe everything and then try the dialer, because I have no problem with my dialers

^ I agree -- very possible.
Also, are you going from different versions of Android built into ROMS?
Say Android 2.3.4 to 2.3.7? -- System App data from Titanium Backup will not work if ROM is based on different Android Version.
I would download G2x scrubber -- really simplifies the WIPING part. Just flash zip and good to install another ROM.

You might also want to look at which Kernel you're also running.
Thanks everyone, I'm sure one of those things will work. I will try them all when I get home!

Hey Guys - I am out of ideas and think my run with the charge might be coming to an end.
My phone is running FP8 stock ROM, rooted, with some apps frozen using TiBu. I have not issues with this set up since the update was pushed. I used tweak for a year or so, then went back to stock for FP8.
A few days ago my phone started to act weird. Widgets were not updating, apps randomly force closing. It was annoying but still usable. I decided to do a factory reset and then everything hit the fan. When I boot up the phone every app on my phone force closes and it is not usable. The "Setup Wizard" also force closes so I can not even get past that.
I have tried flashing other ROMs including Eclipse, tweaked, EP4 with pit, etc.The flash is successful but the force closes persist. I have also tried wiping data through stock recovery and CWM, but I do not think it works. I still see force close errors when the phone boots of apps that should have been wiped (twitter,TiBu, etc.). Anything else I can try? Pretty desperate as it looks like this thing might be toast.
Cliffs
Phone acting weird, reset data multiple times and everything force closes. Phone is not usable at all.
Tried wiping data but does not seem to work, downloaded apps still force close
Flashed different ROMS (both stock w/ pit and custom)
Still force closing. Help?
If the force closes are persisting even though data is wiped, you may have something nasty sticking around through dirty flashes (assuming you're flashing over the old). Make sure you clear all caches and if that doesn't work, it's a shot in the dark but you may want to try formatting the system partition through CWM and then reinstalling FP8 or whatever custom ROM you want. Whatever you do have backups ready...

Thanks for the idea. I am pretty sure I have already tried this but through CWM I will clear cache, davlik cache, data, and format system then try a flash of stock with .pit
Like you said, it seems like whatever is causing this is still sticking around even after all this clearing/flashing. Is there any way to clear these things through adb? Or would getting a log be worth my time?
If all else fails try odin.

I have tried flashing ROMS (stock and custom) through ODIN and to no avail. I am able to flash but it still does not overwrite the corrupted data. I still get force close errors for downloaded apps that should have been erased/over written. Even formatted my SD card just to be sure and didn't help.
Seems like my only option may be to somehow find and delete the data through ADB. Clearing through CVM and stock recovery is not doing anything. Problem is I do not know where this old/bad data is!

Never heard of PST when you posted that. Good idea, but I just tried a few flashes and the effect was no different than ODIN/CWM
This problem keeps getting weirder. So sometimes I am able to get through into the phone (even though I get force close pop ups every 2 seconds). I was able to uninstall most of the apps causing the FCs (not all because some are the system apps).
However, everytime the phone reboots the apps come back! Where in the hell are they being cached/stored to just magically re-appear after data wipes/flashes/un-installs. Seems like I have all these corrupted apps that I can not get rid of. Through terminal emulator I cleared data, and davlik but didn't help.
Have you pulled your sd card and sim then checked if it would boot. Also wipe internal sd from stock recovery

Yea, eventually I can get it to boot but the phone is not usable with all the force closing. The option to clear internal SD only seems to be available for the older ROMS, but I flashed ED1 and cleared it. No luck.
Think I may just be out of ideas on this one...
Pray to jeebus, might be your last option

Have you gone into Settings, Accounts & Sync and turned everything off? If you are back to stock then this could be the cause of restore of the apps. You are using the full EP4 odin - rom, kernel and radios - correct?

Yep I have turned them off. My settings also get reset however when I clear data, reboot, re flash etc.
Good question about the full EP4 ODIN. I have been using the ones from imnuts website, and have also tried the CWM packages from kvswim's thread in the development section. Tried Eclipse Beta 2 & EP4,EE4,ED1, FP8 stock. I also tried the CM10 ROM just to see if the change to ext file system would do anything. Not sure if any of them are labled as having rom, kernal and radios, but I would imagine at least a few of them are.
No matter what I do, I get outsmarted and all my corruped apps, settings and force closes remain.
I think you can skip activation after flashing ep4 and still get the ota's to get to fp1, fp5 and finally fp8. once there try activation, etc. Keep it purely stock no root. still fc's? IMHO your phone storage is hosed.

To skip activation - on the setup screen click on the Emergency Dial button. Once at the dialer, dial:
*#TESTMODE (or *#83786633)
That will "enable the soft keys", making it so you can then hit home to get to the launcher without activating.

Pretty cool! Didn't know I could do that. However once getting past that just about every app continues to force close including tw launcher.
Being that old apps & settings will continue to be restored after doing everything possible to get rid of them it must be a hardware issue.
Oh well, I will keep the phone around for the hell of it but guess it's time I look into something new.
