ok so ive dowloaded a few "launcher 2" apks floating around and i decided that i really want the REAL one... i want it to look exactly like the one seen on the nexus one... INCULDING THE SCROLLING!! i have one right now that looks exactly like it but the scroll animations arent the same. on the one i have, as soon as the app icon hits the bottom or top of the screen it dissapears completely... and it always has to kind of lock into position... i want the one with the smooth scrolling and the apps kinda roll onto the screen... can anyone help or at least agree with me? cuz i havent seen any complaints about this and to me its a little annoying... thanks all who can help
i think the clockwork mod launcher in the markret is like what i want but it only works on stock 2.1 roms and im on the Ic3 rom btw...
You'll never get the "real" launcher. What you see is what you get. Either deal with it or make your own...Helix launcher is about as close as it gets...Its limited due to hardware.
The phone is fast, the screen is beautiful & I know it's capable of so much. So far I'm not thrilled with the Sense UI. My big issue is the contacts & dial screens. Problem is coming from a N1 where I had NO crapware, to this is a bit overwhelming. Really the phone dialer is horrible. I just want to use the stock 2.3.3 dialer I've grown so fond of, easy to use. This one is a nightmare. If I wanted to spell out people's names with a dialpad, I'd still have a flip phone! The contact import was a mess. Never had these issues with stock ROM. I don't want to give up & get the G2X, because I love the phone.
Until they can be rooted, what can I do? Am I the only one who's bothered by this? It's a "phone" & the phone aspect is the worst part of the UI!
Get an third party dialer/contacts app from the market.... search for dialer, you'll get a bunch...

Thanks. I did download 1 but haven't found any yet that I really like. Sometimes less is more.
Do you find much of the font to be too small? I couldn't find any global settings, each app (mail, SMS, etc. ) had to be changed.
Just the font in general on the device? I can see some people saying that considering the display is qHD and there are so many pixels.... but it looks great on my young eyes... if you asked my dad, im sure he' say its too small though, ha.
I used to use Dialer One for a while, I liked it... now im using GoDialer/Contacts, its probably the most popular one out there I believe, supports multiple skins, lots of features... couldnt be more happy.
As for fonts... you need to wait for root so you can either change the screen density or use spare parts.

Thanks, good points. Yes the res is excellent. Go Dialer/Contacts is the one I downloaded, seemed the best. I guess I'm just so used to vanilla coming from an N1 w/ 2.3.4.
I love the Sense dialer above stock because of the smart dial feature, and the stock dialer looks so bland to me..

Glad to know I'm not alone. Guess we are the only two who hate this! I never felt the need to root my N1, but now I can't wait to root this phone! (I know they're will be excellent dev support & help for us who've never bothered to root before.
BTW, is there a HTC Sensation Group yet, I didn't find one?
I just was curious to see what you all thought of the sense integration with android. I have had many android phones, this is my first HTC phone. Whenever I got a new android device the first thing I would do is customize everything to the way I liked it. This always started with a Google search on rooting it to get a custom rom. Mainly cause I could and I liked the differences.
I have to say that I am happy with this phone. I have been using it the way it came out of the box. I think that the sense has made the already good android system even better. Perhaps its gingerbread doing its work as well for a good experience. This phone plain and simple just works. Multi tasking is very reliable unlike most of my expierences with other android devices (COUGH...G2x...COUGH) No issues to date. The phone and the phone interface is excellent IMO. I don't even think I will root it when its able to be done. Perhaps only to have recovery option available. Thumbs up too HTC!!

hate it. ADW launcher FTW.
I like sense, but it seems really resourse intensive, pretty sure u can achieve the same eye candy less power hungry. Still need root, to remove the crapware that came with the phone.
Sense 3.0 is a LOT better than previous versions, only other launcher worth looking at is LauncherPro IMO
Sense suxs for me...like other launchers much better!
I like certain aspects of Sense like the text app, contacts app and clock app but I think HTC is going in the wrong direction with its UI. They are digging further into Android and in my opinion, adding to much eye candy.
I never though I'd say it but Samsung is moving in the right direction with Touch Wiz by minimalizing the nonsense animations and adding slight improvements to Android.
I loaded ADW onto the Sensation and haven't looked back. It made this phone faster than my G2X.

I like Sense 3.0 though I do wish they would optimize it a bit.
i like the way sense works. I had a galaxy s 4g for a little and i didn't like the interface as much as sense. Only thing i liked better was the better looking messaging app. The htc one looks so cheap and boring.
I really like sense and I wouldnt buy an android device without it at this time.
I believe that sense will get better with time and with the fact that HTC in releasing the sense SDK
I like sense~~~beautiful!!~
but seems that it has a big power consumption
Personally, I don't like Sense. It's the biggest reason I want a custom rom on this phone. I agree with jrwingate6's comments on TouchWiz, but I'm an AOSP guy.
Sense 3.0 is definitely an upgrade. With previous versions of Sense, I couldn't use them on my HD2 because of the pocket call answer / decline problem (I would always decline calls because my leg would slide up on the screen when I pulled the phone out). I like the Sense lockscreen and the widgets, however, I'm using LauncherPro Plus right now. I can't deal with the inability to resize widgets and not set the number of rows / columns on each screen. Running LauncherPro also seems to have sped up the phone considerably.
I am not a fan of sense, though I do like the lock screen, app draw and running apps in the notification. I find that the additional animations sounds and other beauty aspects really hinder the performance of the phone. I am currently using golauncher.
Can't wait for root to de-bloat and remove a good portion or all of sense.
After never having an android phone that had sense on it, I have to say I like it. It's different sure, and it might be a little over the top, but I still like it. If you're going to have a skin on your phone i'd choose skin over any other in a heart beat. That's just my opinion though.
I love the aesthetics of Sense but it is too much of a resource hog and apparently very glitchy. I like what HTC did with the mail client, SMS application, weather and a few other standout features but the UX overall just doesn't seem optimized for the dual-core processors.
I also notices something today...I replaced the stock keyboard with another one I found on the market and guess what, the scrolling speed has dramatically improved! I use ADW launcher and now my app drawer and home screens scroll just as smoothly as my HD2 with Hyperdroid android 2.3. Go figure.
For the most part I really like sense. The weather clock, the contacts widgets, the notification tray with quick settings and running programs. The camera ap. The contact/social networking integration. Much of the skinning they do. Features like putting the phone face down to turn on the speaker phone. Adjusting call volume in/out of the pocket, when th ephone is moved, etc. All that I really like.
The sound fx for the weather I hate. I also hate they waste screen real estate with the stupid "customize screen" button. Just let me long press on the screen if I want to add an icon or change the wallpaper. I'd love to be able to use that button for something else. I much prefer the customization that I can get from a 3rd party launcher like ADW Launcher.
I just wish I could use Sense widgets on ADW Launcher and I would be happy.
I like it, but I think it's waaaaaay too much. You can see this by the lag (I have it, sadly )

I'm missing my MIUI from my Nexus one, the 5-way lockscreen on MIUI is pretty awesome.
On principal I like Sense 3.0 as it does look good and would be great if it wasn't such a hog. I'm more a minimalist though and obviously Sense 3.0 is the complete opposite.
I have disabled just about every sense feature i could and removed all sense widgets except for the weather as that is kinda cool looking if nothing else.
I have always loved the eye candy of sense but never used it on any of my phones because I like my phone to be as snappy and fast as possible and sense always seemed to bogg the phone down. In fact, this is the longest I've gone leaving sense on a phone. Usually right out of the box I root it and install a non sense rom. I really am liking sense 3.0 I think it will be better once they get the kinks worked out of it. It still is a resource hog but my phone doesnt appear as laggy as older sense versions/phones. While I cant wait until we get root and s-off to install a non sense rom/kernel I think I will miss 3.0 a bit. I've tried using adw ex on my sensation (used it on all my phones and tablets and LOVED it) but I keep going back to the eye candy of sense 3.0
This time even with s-off and rooted I might stay with a sense 3.0 rom and just overclock that *****

First off...I think I've come to the conclusion I'm a sense guy at heart.
I've used all the major sense ROMs for this bolt. BAMF, Virus (Airborne and Synergy), Chingy stuff, and DroidTh3ory's stuff. (I"m sure a few others I've forgotten).
I've also tried CM7 several times, OMFGB, and recently Th3ory's AOSP run.
I get smaller footprint, more customization, better battery life (I'm told, can't say I've left an AOSP on mine long enough to confirm/deny that personally).
I use my phone for 60% business/40% personal.
I know you can download an app or theme for just about everything...but at what point do you say enough is enough. I'm trying to make AOSP do what Sense already does?...most of the time for free.
Example... Sense 3.0 MMS...cleaner, nicer. Sense email client, way better than AOSP offering. I use Exchange for email. I know all about Touchdown, K9, moxier, Enhanced Email, etc. But on baked in AOSP email you can't even move an email to a sub folder??
The dialer is horrible, IMO. So I downloaded dialer one. I like sense's dialer, if you start typing a name or number, it starts pulling them up. Reminds me of how easy a blackberry is to use for dialing.
I like the people Widget, so I paid for launcher pro plus, their people widget as well as calendar/agenda widget is ok. It would be nice if the facebook pictures synced up properly with their people widget, but I've read this is a known AOSP issue. Again...buying/installing a 3rd party app for something that just works in Sense.
I'm not looking for a flame war. I know there's a HUGE majority of AOSP love out there...I get it. Just looking for opinions.... am I way off base here?
Now, AOSP is not all terrible. The ability to choose different launchers, change the number of home screens, how they rotate, different home dock icons, ability to change row/columns.... There are a lot of pluses for sure... so please don't think I'm kicking dirt on the AOSP guys. I appreciate good work from ALL the developers...it's a thankless and never ending job...
One of the main reasons I am sticking with Sense-based ROMs is the quick lookup feature.
I loved aosp on my Droid 1 and Droid x, when I got the t-bolt I had to deal with sense and now I can't go back to aosp.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
On the CM dialer, you can hit the search key and type someone's name.
I like AOSP cause thats what I learned on. Sense pisses me off more than it helps- too many things that just dont work right for me. For example (and this is small stuff, but stuff that just bugs me), click on the address bar on the browser. Start typing something to search....click enter, aww crap, it automatically put a www. in front of it...back up...delete the www. and try again. I can visit Sense once in a while, but always end up back at AOSP. I dont like re-learning, my original HTC Nexus with AOSP was still the best phone I ever had.
I love sense. I came from a Droid X and after i got my TB i realized that 80% of apps and widgets and stuff that i downloaded was to make it look and operate like sense. Like a world clock, a stop watch and good calender widget, the sense clock...the list goes on. Yes there are some things i miss from launchers i used but overall sense is good. Very functional and its got the eye candy.
I dont get why you u cant just turn sense off in settings like you could on my htc imagio. Made it much easier for people who prefer one or the other.

I think the true answer lies somewhere in between, the beauty of the Android OS is customization. Personally, I am using an AOSP dailer with my BAMF Sense ROM.
My girlfriend loves cm7. I can't stand it. I tend to think of AOSP as Android for people that don't care how it looks or works. Android really isn't that elegant all by itself. It's a pig in need of lip stick. I just refuse to pay for something Sense gives me for free is another reason. That HTC clock is coming close to being an icon of Android itself. I personally think its time Google considered making their industrial modern art masterpiece into something pleasing to the eye and brain. I might give AOSP another go at some point. I'm pretty sure I won't like it because I like how Sense ties things together and it Just works. For free.
I've tried going back to AOSP as I loved AOSP on my OG Droid. I am a Sense-aholic now and I cannot go back. Especially running Sense 3.0 on das BAMF 4.9.

+1, thats exactly how I was. I thought I was an ASOP only guy after my D1, but every time I try ASOP now I find myself missing some of the things that sense gives you.
Gingeritis 3D is the most stable GB Sense rom I have used yet, battery life is unexpectedly good.
I like the hardware that Motorola has been putting out with android, but Sense blows Blur out of the water...
I've tested a few moto phones...and that being said, I can TOTALLY see the huge love of AOSP for those folks. It's what they're used to and what they know.
But I've owned a sense phone...and use it daily now since release.
I too, can't see spending time and a little money to make it work or trying to make it work like Sense Candy....

I use Sense simply because I don't have time to experiment with all the other ROM options. But whenever I have started to try some other individual app options, I usually find something I like better. Sense weather animations are cool eye-candy, but there are much more functional weather apps when you need them--and you just don't need a weather app on all the time. The stock clock is ridiculously huge and some of the other optional Sense clocks are OK, but there are a million other clocks out there for free. Found a free calendar widget that is much more customizable and therefore nicer looking with my many backgrounds. Touchdown is better email app (but not cheap). One thing at a time, everything is getting replaced. Not sure what elements of Sense I'm still using!
Thanks, Robertus
I love asop. I love being able to use launcher pro and hide apps that i don't want to see. I love the speed. And every app works great on asop. I've tried to go back to sense but i only last a day at the most. I think the dailer on stock android is awesome.
Sent from my ThunderBolt using XDA Premium App
I started off with Sense and tried the ASOP mods.
ASOP is very minimalistic. BUT Sense is TOO MUCH.
Google needs a good clock and a better calender and better icons. If they fix that, ill be solid with ASOP.
I like rooting so that I can get to enjoy both sense and aosp. Both have pluses and minuses. Can we agree to that?
End of story.

He was looking for opinions on Sense vs ASOP. He wants to know the pros and cons
I keep trying all the AOSP roms but keep going back to Das BAMF 1.8.6 because it's the most stable, has the least bugs, and the longest battery life. At least for me.
Its a personal preference, so there is no right or wrong answer. I definitely love AOSP. Just cleaner, every app works as intended, moddable.. most importantly (typically) ultra stable and fast.
I personally like the dialer, but usually people get hung up (no pun intended) on that. I love the fact that I can choose to dial, use favourites, have an easy to access call log, etc.. and if I can't manage to find someone in all that.. i can just hit the search key (you remember that little button on the bottom right side).
I do love some of the sense options but not enough to buy the farm. It would be nice to have a middle ground, but I guess i kind of do with AOSP and the mods.
I there any way to enable the quick lookup feature on AOSP? I mainly use quick lookup to easily translated web pages.
So I just installed the new (official) 2.3.4 update released by Tmobile USA. When it started back up Sense was set back as the default launcher (boo!), but I must say it felt very smooth and quick. In fact, when I set Launcher Pro back as the default it seems as if Sense is actually faster. Has anyone else experienced this?
I would not say faster than LP... but it is a lot smoother than 2.3.3
I dont know, Sense does now feel very fast as much as I hate to admit it.
Even though I hate sense. It is pretty fast on the new update. For me though I need to be able to run 5 icon rows which sense does not let you do. Plus I still think the launcher looks outdated
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Yep, I have to agree that the update made Sense run faster, but I still love my LP. I love how I can have 5 apps dock with gesture to open additional apps. Also, I hate how Sense's app drawer looks and controls...just awkward.
I totally agree. Sense really does suck in every regard, and I cant stand it. However, I must say that this newest upgrade has done wonders for it.
