[Q] Phone selection... - myTouch 4G General

Hi guys,
My MT3GS suddenly decided to kick the bucket last night, so now I'm just looking around for potential new phones.
I'm considering among mt4gs, sensation, g2, and mt4g. I just want to know how you guys liked the phone, and which phone would be the wiser choice at the end, or if there's other phones I should consider as well.
I thank you all in advance for the advices!

Even tho I like my phone A LOT I suggest u get a sensation
Welcome to the DARKSIDE

This phone(mt4g) is great, but it's limited in some ways. The sensation has an amazing dev section, not saying ours isn't great.
From my fist to your face, enjoy!

get the sensation!!
the MT4G is a GREAT device and all, good devs too.
but the sensation is just better

Because smartphone technology advances so quickly, to me it only makes sense to buy what is currently the latest and greatest. Otherwise, you're starting off already behind. So I'm not sure why the Amaze isn't on your short list, but I'd start there.

maybe its monetary reasons?

That was certainly my reason for getting the MT4G. It was cheaper and better than the HD2 that I had been considering since 2010. It's not that I can't afford to spend $500 on a phone with no contract, but I just don't have a need for it. I'm not a power user. The last cutting-edge phone that I bought brand new was back in 2005.
If you liked the MT3GS, then the MT4GS is the most intuitive upgrade. Otherwise, I would say that it depends on the budget more than anything else.

The sensation XE and XL and the amaze 4g look to be pretty nifty devices, however I feel like I would miss the track pad :\
also if your a samsung fan the galaxy nexus might be a good option (again, no track pad... )

One of the reasons I got the MT4G was the presence of physical buttons. I still like physical buttons without question. I thought the trackpad was a nice bonus when I first got it, but I'm finding that I don't use it that often. I use it for waking up the phone more than anything else, followed by occasional use to scroll the home screens.

I use the track pad while scrolling through and editing text, its nice in clockwork instead of having to use the volume rocker, but mostly i use it when viewing my computer from my phone. Its nice to have the track pad control the mouse, especially with teamview and phonemypc
Edit: +1 about the physical buttons

So, who's getting a Sensation, and why?

I've had my G2 since the day it came out and its the best smartphone, and Android phone I've ever had. Despite the little quirks the G2 has that somewhat bother me,I love the look and the fact that the keyboard is amazing. BUT, I'm going to be making the switch to the Sensation when it comes out.
1) I've always wanted a large screen phone. I envy people with a Evo despite my phone will out perform it anyday. I feel like with a 4.3 inch ill be happy no matter what. Playing games will be better especially with the large screen, and the dual core of course will be great too. Eventhough the G2's keyboard is amazingly awesome, I know the larger screen will make up for not having one and ill finally be able to get really handy with Swype.
2) the hardware on the phone is amazing. The dual core is going to be amazingly fast and I feel the phone will gather a large dev community and the roms, kernels etc will be be vast. Not to mention Sense 3.0 is beautiful and will be great to use evenwhen other roms are available.
3) I work for best buy, so the discount will be enough for me to buy outright (or else I wouldn't buy haha).
What about you?

I'm not sure.. I just came from the G2x and was really in love with it minus the F'ed up screen. I'm thinking about holding out for a similar G2 with Dual Core or even Quad Core capability. This G2 is so nice after fixing the hinge. I'm very satisfied.
Coming from an N900 I've always thought I had to had a keyboard and but after using Swype, HTC IME and every other onscreen keyboard featured I end up using the onscreen 90% of the time anyway.
Now on to the reason I'm getting the Sensation.. my best bud and gadget rival got a Thunderbolt and the G2 looks puny compared to it! Haha.
I'm a big fan of 4.3" form factor after having my HD2. In fact at 10 months was the longest I ever owned a phone. I still consider it ergonomically the best phone I've ever used (for me). I've been waiting for something similar in Android form to come out to Tmo for quite a while. G2 was really a stop gap for me waiting for a 4.3" Tmo phone.
I'm tempted by the Sensation...
I find myself only using the desire Z keyboard for long emails, otherwise the onscreen keyboard does the job nice.
I already have a Bluetooth keyboard and as the Sensation supports the Bluetooth HID profile, i'm hoping that I would be able to use that with the Sensation.
The big screen is definitely appealing!
you have tot think its not only a 4.3 incher, but it has a qhd screen. for seem this seems like this could be as big as when the evo launcher. just because its the first phone with sense 3.0 and all of these yummy specs. and someone referring to having a phone with dual core, and a slide out keyboard i think youll probably be in luck. though its not the next g2, it is the mytouch 4g slide and it has alot of the goodies the sensation has plus a slide out. i can imagine a g3 will be in the works considering how fast phones are developing these days.
Wonder when we can expect the g3 if possible...i would probably pass on the sensation atm.
I am interested in it, but I will wait for a few weeks to get it because there are bound to be glitches and problems with it.
Locked bootloader = no dice
HTC was once a great but SE is looking the best for Android now. HW isn't much currently but hell, they give you the option to unlock the bootloader and even instructions to make your own kernel.

exactly. as soon as I see that they locked the bootloader, I just have nothing else to say... I wish they would continue doing what they did way back when and not worry about what rom we put on our phone. it's not like we're reverse engineering the phone to create a clone of the actual device and software to sell for profits.
This forum is only now starting to hit it's stride. It will be ages before the sensation forum can even come close to what our devs have done here. And for someone like me, that is just as important as the actual phone hardware itself.

Have to agree, but even though the Sensation will come all locked up, it's still the first dual core HTC phone. There will be a lot of people with it.

Did anyone ever crack any of the motorola locked bootloaders? Last I heard no one ever did and genius's have been working on that for years with bounties worth 1000s. If this is anything like that its gonna be a dead end. Nothing but roms based on the stock with slight tweaks. Not interested.

We should wait and see what happens with the Incredible S.
i def know what youre saying with the sign bootloader. from what ive read, its not nearly as bad the moto bootloaders. i know there was an issue with the thunderbolt being locked..but whadda know! its unlocked, and roms are being flashed, etc. the g2 took quite some time before it was officially rooted. i have high hopes for the sensation being unlocked and from what ive read throughout websites that others do too. regardless of the bootloader ever being cracked, the phone is amazing with everything it offers and ill be getting it anyway. the new sense is going to be AMAZING, and itll hold me over until the phone is rooted.

Why? And besides, the new myTouch's keyboard is supposed to be terrible. But otherwise, why?
The only differences (as far as I can tell) are...
-Camera (supposedly myTouch's is advanced, but I have 0 issues with Sensations. They're both 8MP?)
-Keyboard
-Screen size (4.3 vs 3.7? I forgot what myTouch was)
-Capacitive buttons on Sensation vs. non-capacitive (also including "genius" button on myTouch)
-Aesthetics
I personally hate keyboards, don't care for camera, and much prefer 4.3". On top of all that, Sensation just looks so much better and I also prefer capacitive buttons.
Go into a t-mobile store and see for yourself. Everyone has different preferences. The same way you (probably) shouldn't ask your friends to pick your future spouse for you, you should decide for yourself. Analogy may be terrible, but you get the idea.
I think the QHD screen is much nicer then the 480x800 the mytouch will have. Coming from an iPhone 4 with retina, the sensation is the next best thing in terms of resolution and dpi.
Pros for Sensation
4.3" screen (could be a pro for some people, con for others)
qHD resolution
Aluminium unibody
Not a customized version of Sense 3.0
Pros for myTouch 4G Slide
Best camera on an Android phone (most likely)
Keyboard
Latest version of Gingerbread (2.3.4)
Hope that helped.
The four big differences are screen size, keyboard, resolution, and Sense.
4.3" v 3.7"
Physical Keyboard
qHD (960x540) v wvga (800x480)
Sense 3.0 v Sense 3.0 / Espresso mod
Personally, 4.3" beats 3.7" any day. qHD is absolutely beautifyl, and I especially like the 16:9 aspect ratio. The screen is plenty big on the Sensation to overtake the physical Keyboard desire. I could care less about the version of Sense, although the MyTouch does lose the amazing new lock screen. Still can't figure out why they did that.
The Sensation's camera is fantastic. I probably won't even know what I'm missing.
I also really like the aluminum unibody on the Sensation.
Hope that helped.

I really really want to get the Sensation but I'm hearing all of these issues people are having with it. Namely, the Wifi Death Grip, Overheating, Lag, and Screen Responsiveness. Are they really that bad? Also, when looking through threads about the problems, I see people talking about their 'third sensation' meaning they've traded it in three times. Have you traded yours in yet?
Weight is also a factor. The MT4GS is almost as hefty as the original Droid.

LOL I have yet to have an issue with either of the two sensations that I purchased. You have to remember that the majority of sensation users aren't on xda plus people such as myself who haven't had any issues are less likely to start a thread... I've always felt that reading the complaints on a forum are overrated especially the "death grip" bs I have held my phone in every possible position with one hand and two and have yet to notice a drop in signal strength....a lot of people are simply idiots and post issues stating their phone is lagging but don't mention that their battery is low and they have 10 apps running in the background and the phone is on "power saver" mode...

I'm very interested in the mfg date on your sensation. It's right on the box.
I can say without question that the death grip is there, have tried everything including a case (which helped) but I still lose signal after 5 minutes of use.
Personally I don't care much for the screen size since you lose 90% of it when typing in landscape mode making a long email a PITA.
**********
I thing the mt4gs is a good choice if you:
- need a good speakerphone (s4g speakers suck even with Volume+)
- want a keyboard (i rdp/ssh a lot and keyboard shortcuts are clutch)
- want WiFi that *works*
- want a phone that comes with s-off
My other complaint with the sensation is the heat/electrical issues. While plugged in and tethering the screen goes crazy and is unusable.
I've been on the sensation for almost two weeks and seeing how many people are also having these issues is leading me to believe its not just my phone.
Hardware can't be fixed as easily as software so I'm jumping ship now before I get stuck for 2 years.
Keeping my sensation. Had the mytouch yesterday and took it back. it isn't real sense 3.0. The only advantage is the camera is faster than ours by like 3 seconds.
I'll wait for the unlocked bootloader and we will overcome.

Manufacture date of 5/25/11 and I am using wifi right now....and where has it been proved that the mt4gs already has unlocked bootloader?
I'm not 100% on s-off just what I've read around here.
I have the exact mfg date and can't get through a game of zynga without it dropping.
Also WiFi on this phone is weak as it is, my droid 1 picks up signal and connects from 4 doors down while the sensation doesn't even see them.
Maybe I got a bad one?

Video chat for Google talk does not work on the MT4GS
On the software side, you have the very latest version of Gingerbread on board. I'd like to say that again -- Android 2.3.4 is on board. That's offset a bit by the fact that Google Talk does not support the front facing camera, instead Qik is included for video conferencing.

That's pretty lame. I'm within my "remorse" period so i'll get a chance to test 1st hand.
Even then my usage relies heavily on a hardware keyboard so I'll probably switch regardless.
Also I'm beginning to notice the s4g screen is too big. For example I can't add a browser tab without overextending my thumb.

LOL you should definitely stick with the S4G IMO slide out keyboards are annoying not to mention at some point the keys tend to stop working or get stuck then you will be using the touch screen full time..S4G will have the better display and 4.3" is perfect. Software wise it's the same but whatever floats your boat dude

Jumping ship soon..

.. to join team HTC Sensation XE!
I'm going to exchange my Samsung Galaxy Nexus this week with o2 due to the HUGE palava going on with the volume/rf interference issues.
I had an HTC Desire previously, so I get the feeling the Sensation is pretty much it's big brother?
Are there any issues I should be looking for upon receipt of the XE? Or were things such as dust under the screen sorted out for the updated handset?
Is it worth rooting the XE? If yes, why? What are the benefits?
In hindsight I wish i'd just got the XE, it was my first choice but the samsung launch won me over. I feel dirty
There is a lot of issues mentioned here on forum, battery, dust, and so on and so on...
But none of this happened on my XE! and battery is bigger, so just give it a try
I rooted it in first day, just because stock rom drains battery faster, on custom rom I having 2+ day's without charging.
And I love my XE
I had desire before too, you'll love your sensation
had dust under screen within 3 weeks of usage , phone was in soft gel case with a screen protector. Id defintly advise to check screen i looked at 3 before purchase and there was a massive difference in 2 of the 3 like night and day
Good luck on your purchase i would have liked to keep this phone becouse i bagged a great deal on it but i just couldent be bothered swapping again so just canceled contract. Im back on my htc desire and couldent be happyier ill be waiting for the next round of phones before looking again
wouldnt do it.
galaxy nexus = awesome screen.
and my backcover-unibody has issues so my screen is not in the unibody correctly..
seems u cant open the phone a few times, bcause of the unibody..
hey mate
i dont have any issues with my htc sensation . I've got it as a free upgarde from 3uk and doesnt have a single defect. It appears though that some people they do have , allthough this didnt stop me from getting my sensations and honestly i love it! except the battery life .... but then again my htc desire didnt have better ....lol
For me get the htc sensation nice looking ,speedy lots of custom ROMs.excellent build quality.
Good Luck with your choice
To be honest, Samsung's response to the volume issue on the nexus hasn't filled me with confidence.
It IS a beautiful phone but just feels to thin, and it's not too comfortable for my girly hands to hold.
I got the Sensation XE from O2
Not a problem with dust etc and the screen is excellent . I may upgrade in March to the Nexus when all the issues have been resolved , if they ever do !
To be honest though , its dual core running at 1.5 Ok could have come with more user available RAM but I have no slow downs etc .
If you get the O2 version can you dump the ROM fist as I have made mine fully stock now and would need the O2 version of the ROM if I ever needed to take it back.
Yep I know I'm a Numpty for not backing up in the first place
The nexus fix is software related and in on the way according to the "androidauthority" site, that goes for the European nexus ,u can have a look on the article if u like .I can't post any links because I am n00b here

I have my Sensation for almost 2 months and no dust, no touchscreen issue, nothing. Just wifi deathgrip, which is not a dealbreaker and rarely the screenshot capture bug (also not a dealbreaker); but I wouldn't exchange a Galaxy Nexus for a Sensation (only if you really like Sense), I would wait for the volume bug to be solved.
Already exchanged it, prefer sense as i've come from an HTC Desire. I'm not one to get my nerd on about cutting edge tech specs etc. Much happier now (and that's what matters, right? )
ICS is gonna rock on this phone!

It looks promising and would get ics but I'm not too sure how the adreno 220 would work on a 720p display. I would not recommend the galaxy nexus cause as far as I have heard that ti processor uses the old galaxy s g.p.u Fail. Wait, does 02 have that?

Really? Loud clamor about this volume issue (which is all relative because only a small number of people have this issue anyways) only started to come up a few days ago, and Google has already said that they are working on a fix. They addressed the issue and announced they are working on it literally only a few days after angry Galaxy Nexus owners took to the internet. How much faster do you want? Of course we don't know how long the fix will take, but at least they've already acknowledged the issue, and I'm assuming the fix will come very quickly as they will want to have it spotless before it hits the U.S.
To be honest, HTC's response to serving Sensation owners half-baked Sense software, low volume problems, dust issues, and death grip problems hasn't filled me with confidence at all, because they never did respond at all.
At the time I wrote that, Samsung UK had up until that point not even issued a statement of acknowledgement and been deleting posts from their Facebook page! The phone should never have been allowed to be sold in the state it was.
The fix seems to be a software solution to a seemingly hardware problem (long thread on the G Nex forum..). Is this just going to be masking the problem?
I also had a fault with the phone powering off when it was plugged into usb charging and had reached 100%.
The Sensation XE was the phone I originally had my eye on, before the Nexus was even launched. I was won over, but when I actually had the handset, the faults and the physical dimensions and FEEL of the phone just weren't things I was prepared to work with. The XE is more comfortable for me to hold, I was actually getting aches in my hand from the Nexus. Probably because being female, my hands are smaller than that of an adult male.
I had 14 days from purchase of the phone to swap for another, no questions asked. I had to make the decision this week as I personally don't have time later in the 14 days to return it.
So there we go, I don't see why I have to justify my actions but oh well. I've made the right decision for me. The Galaxy Nexus is a bloody fantastic phone but I just didn't get along with it.
Honestly, what's the point of having an awesome phone if you're not 100% happy with it?

Yeah I wouldn't do it either. The Galaxy Nexus's volume issue will be solved soon - and it's a better phone on paper. Funny, I love the Sensation (XE/XL) but I'd still suggest the Nexus over it.
Edit: Read OPs post about hand cramps and whatnot, I read the first post and assumed it was only the volume woes, but I see it now. Definitely go Sensation.

Farewell to the sensation..Hola to the Galaxy nexus.

Just wanted to say bye to my friends i met through the sensation. Its been an extremely fun ride, from s-on to s-off i've been through all of it. I work at verizon now, and ever since i touched the galaxy nexus, i knew i had to have it. Most of you don't find it as a huge upgrade from the sensation, and when i agree to a certain extent, the galaxy nexus, is well, a nexus device. I never owned one and now that i finally got a job i am buying one. been with android since the g1 and never have owned a nexus and now that i have the opportunity to actually own one, i will (especially since im getting it for 437.48 USD off contract for gsm ).I hope i see all of you on that side as well. Later guys.

Not at all. Just with selling my sensation, thats how much i'm coming out of pocket.
Congratz! The Nexus devices are awesome...My N1 still rocks!!
I always wanted a nexus one, and still want one now, but wouldn't dare ask my folks to come out of pocket 600 for it.
Pictures side by side with the Sensation or didn't happen!
I was just going to post one of these! See you all later as well, just got my nexus

In the same boat, got my Nexus over the weekend. I think it's a slight upgrade, made more pronounced by the direct-from-Google-Software and the development community. Dont get me wrong, the Sensation has a pretty good Dev community (compared to the anemic Epic 4G, which I originally came from), but the Nexus devices always get the latest and greatest earliest.
Good decision and good luck! GN is a much better phone than the Sensation IMO. I'd like to make the switch too but I have to ride out the rest of this darn contract. Transformer Prime for me instead.

i would rather have this issue than the issues im having with mine. it could be software and most likely is since the ONLY good thing on a samsung phone is the screen xD i do love my senny though.
LOL at the comments too

The "bug" with the Nexus One wasn't really a bug. The touch screen that they picked wasn't really capable of real multitouch. It was only capable of doing a certain multitouch gestures like pinch-to-zoom. So it was a hardware limitation, not a bug.
Hopefully this time it is indeed a bug, and could be fixed with firmware/driver update.

Having owned the Galaxy Nexus (HSPA+ version) for a week, I can't say if I like it more than the Sensation.
The biggest selling points of this phone is the screen and ICS. The screen is definitely gorgeous. Best screen on the market, period. But it is a battery hog. My GN's battery life is noticeably worse than Sensation's. And "battery usage" tells me that 50+ % of the battery usage came from the screen.
While ICS is more polished than previous versions of Android, it just isn't polished enough. For example, the ICS contact app has WebOS/Sense-like feature that integrate your contacts' various accounts info into one place. But it doesn't do it automatically. Some of my contacts are listed as separate contacts (with the same name). Unlike Sense, it doesn't automatically ask me to merge the contacts all at the same time, and I had to join them into one manually (Click a contact, press menu, choose edit, press menu, choose join, choose which one to join. And if a contact is listed more than twice, you have to do the above to merge each of his/her account).
The ICS dialer also lacks the T9/SmartDialing feature in the Sense dialer.
The camera sucks. The zero shutter lack is a gimmick. Yes, it shoots fast, but most of the time it doesn't auto-focus properly before taking the picture. Also, you can't set ISO manually, and there is limited options of manual control.
Lock screen is a joke. While they advertise that the camera app is now available from the lock screen, so that you can access quickly, this doesn't work if you have set a lock-pin/pattern/face unlock. With Sense, even if you have a pin/pattern set, you still have the Sense lock screen with quick access when you turn the screen on. On the GN, once you set the pin/pattern, that's what you see the first thing you turn the screen on. You don't get to see the camera app quick access button.
And of course this phone have the usual Samsung design language - very plasticky. To be fair, it feels better than a lot of plastic Samsung phones. But still, it feels cheap and fragile compared to the Sensation. I dropped my Sensation once and scratched the metal case. I'm sure that my GN wouldn't survive such a fall.
The phone isn't really faster than the Sensation in openning and running apps. It feels faster because of the newly implemented hardware accelerated UI. Scrolling is noticeably smoother. The only exception is the browser. Webpages load really quick. I'm not sure if this have to do with the TI SoC, or the ICS browser is just significantly better. Texts don't get reflowed after zoom-in though, which is one feature that I really miss.
All in all, I'm not sure if I would keep the GN. Sensation + ICS could be a much better overall phone. I maybe much better off holding onto my Sensation until next summer for some other ICS phone with a better camera and a non-plastic case.
In my opinion the GN feels very cheap. The Sensation is far better there.
Turn the screen to its lowest brightness, you can see some darker lines across the screen. Once you noticed that, you see it every time - a no go for me.
On the other hand, it is very brilliant, and a bit sharper, but I like the Sensations more.
Battery sucks, Android.OS has mor consumption than display.... weird.
I will keep the Sensation, too bad it has only 768MB RAM, but I think its enough.
too bad..you should've waited when they release the list of the new devices coming in 2012
Will miss you greatly...so sad to see all of these sensation people leaving...the sensation is still a pretty damn good phone guys...have some fun with the nexus.
Bye bye! Hope all goes well for you guys with the GN!
I got pretty attached to the Sensation. ^_^

As a user that has had both. I took the MT4G over the Sensation. There is no need for that much power in a phone right now plus the battery life on those things is TERRIBLE. However from a money standpoint, I would straight trade the MT4G for a Sensation any day lol.
Totally worth it in my eyes. This is more than enough phone for me so I won't be upgrading anytime soon. The dev community is really strong too. Already put virtuous quattro on it and it's amazing. Tried out some of the sense ics roms but I like vanilla ics best.

I've been thinking of getting a Sensation myself for the last couple of days after my bad eMMC MT4G ate it, but the more I look at my options, the more I'm leaning towards getting another MT4G provided that I get one with the good eMMC and screen.
The Sensation's primary issue is signal strength. It annoys me that I have to limit my options for which case to buy so that it doesn't have a role in degrading the signal. Also, I prefer using Wi-Fi over 4G because I'm on a simple data plan, and it's unacceptable to me for the Wi-Fi antenna at the top to be extremely susceptible to a death grip that I have to hold the phone a certain way in landscape mode, and likewise I can't hold the phone by its bottom unless if I also want to degrade the mobile signal as well. I can hold the MT4G with two fingers using the TPU Fusion case, but I don't do it. Why would I do that with the Sensation, with or without a case? If I can give Apple crap for their iPhone 4 inconveniences, I will do the same to HTC. It's not acceptable.
To me, my phone still needs to primarily be a phone, then a mobile Internet device and GPS, then a PDA, and lastly, a time-waster. As great of a device as the Sensation was spec-wise for 2011, it comes up short in too many practical categories. The signal strength, battery life, and speaker volume (for which there is a fix) are all worse than the MT4G. Even though I would like the larger, higher resolution screen and dual-core processor, I don't make use of those things enough for them to matter.
That said, I still hate the idea of playing panel and eMMC lottery to get a good MT4G. If the Sensation didn't have its issues, I may have gotten one the first time around, because I really like the phone otherwise.
Of course, when it comes to trading the two phones, that's a no-brainer because you're basically making $50-100.

Weird, I've not had a single issue with signal of any kind no matter how I hold it. Use my wifi at home at all times and haven't had any issues with my 4G either. Also I get great battery life on ics, just as good as I did with my mt4g. Speaker volume also not an issue. Have you had one of these? Cause I have absolutely zero doubts about making the switch and would never go back.

I haven't. Those are all the complaints I've read in the xda Sensation forums. What it boils down to for me is whether I want to spend the extra $80-100 for hardware that I know I won't put to maximal use and a new set of problems. It may not be every handset, just like not every MT4G has a bad screen, bad eMMC, squeaky buttons, or whatever else. However, the Sensation does have its share of problems and the ones that it has are potential deal breakers to me, regardless of what another user's tolerance, threshold, or experience is.
I haven't ruled out the Sensation yet, but it's hard for me to pull the trigger on either a second MT4G or a Sensation knowing that both of them have the potential to be a bigger pain in the ass than any phone I've owned before the last MT4G. What's frustrating is that those are my only candidates at this point because nothing else appeals to me nor is in my budget. I've only started to take a liking to some Samsung and Motorola smartphones based on their late-2011 models, but those are way out of my budget and I know I'd want to switch to AOSP immediately with those phones.
You know, if I had to replace my MT4G, I'd just go for a Galaxy S. They're easy to root and there's a decent amount of support. And everything works on ICS. I'm just not a fan of the build quality. I'd be using my Galaxy S if it wasn't for the fact that it feels cheap and plasticy. My MT4G is like a lump of steel by comparison (which is good).

word to that brother! I hate the build quality of the Galaxy S, however the build quality on the mytouch 4g is awesome!
I recently traded a HD2 and for a Mytouch 4g and I was lucky enough to get one with a good eMMc chip and display
Haha. Yeah. I tend to keep my older phones, and when I was gifted the Galaxy S, I switched back to my MT4G. In fact, build quality was what kept me with Blackberry for so long. After I was given my MT3G Slide, I got hooked onto android because of flash support. That and I could easily play SNES emulators.
It's a shame to see people move away from the phone. Especially with the recent news that perhaps we could start getting full functionality from ICS because of the other similar phone's official ICS upgrade.

I think I've decided to save my money and get another MT4G for now while keeping my eye on the Amaze or whatever else might become a good modder phone when it's truly time for me to upgrade.
I know some people here like to upgrade phones like they're leasing BMWs, but my phone is not a status symbol. I'll just take a solid, good-looking form factor with sufficiently powerful hardware for my needs, because once I'm done rooting and flashing a new ROM, I don't mess with it again.
I've got a Sensation and MT4G, and I switch back and forth in use. Spec wise the Sensation may seem a lot better on paper, but here's my perspective in comparing the 2 in real life.
Sensation pluses:
* Screen size & resolution
* 8 MB Camera and 1080p Camcorder
* More active development, so quicker path to ICS
Sensation minues:
* Antennas built into the rear cover - arguably a defective design; harder to do a simple battery pull; not nearly as solid as the MT4G design with its metal battery cover; and generally the MT4G seems to get better reception too.
For most other items, like battery life, speed of use with or without Sense, lack of lag, built in memory, 4g speeds, browsing, etc., the devices are very similar if not about the same. Dual core in the Sensation is nice, but on both of my devices I only OC to about 1.2 ghz and they both (with the right GB rom) have the same smoothness and similar benchmarks. Sensation is just like a slightly newer brother to the MT4G IMO.
