[Q] Memory Problem & Question - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've got a problem with memory on Omnia 7 - 7720. See bellow:
With System View: Total RAM 481 Mb - Free RAM 475 Mb - Free Storage 268 Mb
With Zune: 7.89 Gb used - 0 Free !!!
What is the "Free storage" ?
How I can view the 7.89 Gb memory used ? I only have a few photos, no MP3 at all, and some apps. Exists an application ?
Other questions, the apps from the marketplace (XBL and apps) when they were installed, what is the kind of memory will be used (the 8Gb storage) ?

There's no app to map storage usage - apps don't have the required capability to access the filesystem. However, Zune will tell you what your phone's storge is used by, in various broad categories.
As for what could be using up your 8 gigs, there are a few possibilities.
You say you have no MP3s (I assume you mean no audio files of any kind) and only a few photos. What about videos? Those tend to be big. How about documents?
How much email do you sync to the phone? My work inbox is nearly 5GB, and if I synced all my email accounts fully to the phone (instead of only select folders and only the last two weeks of mail) I'd run out badly.
Do you have a lot of games or other apps that have big downloads installed? Apps are installed into the phone's storage, same as any other files.
Do you have a lot of app data, such as maps for a navigation app or audio clips from a sound recorder?

Hi,
I have a lot of apps, but not to reach 8 Gb (a big app such a great game is about 120 Mb)! 50 Mb videos, and my mailbox is limited at 160 MB (Exchange quota).
But I saw in another post that a failed sync could affect the storage.
Another example, I bought Navigon, 2,3 Gb MAPS content, but the download failed 1 times, and the software relaunch it. I think the first downloaded datas (failed) are stored in somewhere TEMP folder.
I think, a kind of CCleaner could solve my problem !
But what can I do now ?

I have 0% reserved space and I have no details on Zune memory bar usage...

Well, if you want to reclaim the space for sure, you'll need to do a hard reset. The problem is that you'll lose a lot of data that can't be backed up, like game progress and SMS history.
You can try first just deleting all Zune data. First sync everything from the phone to Zune, then use Sync Settings (there's a button, "View Sync Options", to go right there) and press "Erase All Content". See how much space this gives you back, then sync the content you want on the phone back to it.

Back up of call history databank

Dees any body have an idea how to back up and restore the call history databank. (clog database)
asked sktools and got this
on WM5 with current version you can save all PIM data (PIM.vol include clog database). Separate save only clog not posible.

Looking for a 2003 solution.
Do you know what else is stored on PIM.vol?
For instance, the 'Speed Dial List'?
My Wizard Runs pretty fast otherwise,
I dont have any extra Plugins other than SPB pocket Plus or Today Agenda.
When the Outlook is synched (contacts and appointments) I have around 3000 contacts Now.
The PIM file is 7 mb.
After the sync the device slows down a Lot.
Also there are two startup programs (system)
1 FILESYS.exe Takes around 1.8 MB at startup
2. GWES.exe . 1.28 MB(STARTUP)
As the device is used their size increases to ( 2-2.5 MB )this slows the device further.
Pls see pics attached <before and after>
using Oxios or any other memory closing app does not sort the problem out.
ONLY Rebooting sorts the problem.
Secondly, Is there any way I can shift my PIM.vol to the storage card?
coz I have noticed that when the Device memory is sufficient it also allocates sufficient Running memory to the Programs. I feel at least 20 Mb should be there.
Or is there any Program which allows to MANUALLY ALLOCATE memory to <STORAGE> and <PROGRAMS>
Like in My O2 XDA..In wizard the slider does not move...
MY MAIN PURPOSE IS TO LEAVE MAXIMUM SPACE EMPTY on My C drive.(device)
thanx in advance.....
Regards,

Low storage space

"There is not enough storage space available to complete this action. Please clear some space and try again"
I have like 2GB free on both the external SD and internal storage. Does anyone know why this is happening? And how to fix it?

The space on your device is divided in different parts:
System
Data(for your apps)
Storage
The space you're probably talking about is the space left on your Storage part(where it also saves your photos/videos/music etc.). If you go into:
settings -> applications -> manage applications
You see a bar at the bottom of your screen which indicates how much application storage(the 'data part') you have left.
A way to solve this, is by clearing all the caches of the applications you have installed(there are apps on the Google Play Store that can do this for you) or delete applications that you hardly/don't use anymore.

I am getting this message more and more often. I did use an app to clear application cache but that didn't do any good.
Im using JellyShot 2.6 and the error appears even after clean installation (full wipe, dalvik, cache, system, data). More often it appears when I use my phone as mass storage and transferring files. It's annoying really.
Use link2SD and partition your SD card. I did mine and got 1gb of internal memory
Found the cause!
Dear friend,
I have had the same issue, and wanted to find the why.
So I have used Titanium Backup's "freeze" function to find WHO.
After 30 minutes of freezing and defrosting I have found the cause!
It is an app that tries to access the SD card before it is actually mounted.
This app is VIBER. Try to freeze it and you will not have this message, useless and annoying message.
Sure it is a bug.
I will try something to overcome this problem, then I will post again.
Thank you for inspiration!
I have just transferred Viber to SD.
Now this message does not annoy me anymore, but I'm testing if viber works well on SD also.
Viber issue
Unfortunately Viber do not works in SD card before opening it.
So we have 2 choices:
1. Open viber manually after every restart
2. Watching its message everytime we boot the phone
If people @Viber will work on this there would be a third option...
Update
And now, after moving Viber back to internal memory... the message does not appear anymore!

Too much mobile data usage

Hello fellow Xda members,
I have a problem on a phone (S2 plus),
the application or service called "Remove apps" is taking to much mobile data,

Any help?
The "Remove apps" is a generic name for all uninstalled apps. Those 196MB are the amount, all those (uninstalled) apps used when they were installed.
Ex.: If you had Google Chrome and Youtube app installed and they transferred let's say 30MB and respectively 65MB, after you uninstall them, under Data Usage you will see: Remove apps 95MB.

Thank you for your reply,
But it's quiet strange, cause the usage is like this
1- 18 - 20 May >> 16.36 MB
2- 22-29 May >> 270 MB
3- 29 May - 2 June >> 196 MB
You're welcome.
I believe after 29/May you might have re-installed one of the previous (uninstalled) apps, and that traffic (74MB) is now shown next to the specific app. Otherwise, I can't see any reasonable explanation.
Ex.: Before 29/May Google Chrome was uninstalled after it had used 74MB. After 29/May you re-installed it, and now its traffic is shown separately: Google Chrome 74MB (or more, if you used it afterwards).

thanks a lot

I'm glad I could help.

Including SD Data as Internal space?

Hi
My phone keeps saying its full. Its not. Going through my installed apps it just doesn't amount to around 12GB.
Checking the properties of the Android folder including data and obb only amounts to 5GB.
It seems the phone thinks files in Pocket Casts on the SD and other SD based files like Here Maps data reside on the internal when they dont!
Anyone clarify this or figure out a fix?
Update: deleting app data of Pocket Casts and Here Maps didn't change anything..
There's still something not right as I went through and checked folder sizes of everything on internal and give or tale a MB here and there, there's nothing else other than the 5.1GB of data. Where is the other 5GB??
Do you happen to have Google Play Music downloaded locally and saved to SD?
Indeed I do...

Clear that cache and stored music. Use Google MusicManager for PC to download your music, that way you will not reach your 2 download limit, as it does not count against that limit according to Google when using the manager.
That way you can copy that music to your SD card and it will be in MP3 format.
No, that's not the issue. It only had 40MB of data. I'm literally stumped as to where this hidden few gigs are!
Highlighting all files including hidden on Windows or with File Commander on the phone only shows 3.9GB, but the phone thinks 9GB is used!
One of my work mates had something similar, was told to factory reset and start again and it did actually fix the problem
Did you try the clear cache option in storage settings? It clears for all apps.
Yes. Cleared everything. No joy. Factory reset in the end and that sorted it as its now back as it was with 7GB free. Assume it may have been some oddity from flashing UK generic over O2 rom? Only thing I can think it was.
Ah I didn't see you replied to this. Anyway, I noticed that Google play music does a funny thing where if you have saved music (not cached music) stored on the external SD, the space counts against your internal SD as well. Again, this is not cached music, but music that you've indicated you want saved to device.

[Q]Can anyone help...how to free up my phone's storage?

my phone( HTC desire) has not enough storage now. But in fact i don’t know how to free up my phone’s storage. i’m afraid that i will clean up the useful files by mistake. So could you tell me the best way to fee up my phone’s storage?
Thanks in advance.
firstly, i think you can buy another storage card. maybe you can store more important files in your phone.
if you want to save money, i’d love to recommend a kind of android PC suite which i often use for you.
that’s MoboPlay. it can automatically free up your phone’s storage. it has unique feature named space(junk) cleaner. it includes two functions, APK Files Cleanup and Large Files Cleanup.
hope you have a try. Both are useful.

of course.
MoboPlay is a free mobile phone application, you can download from its offical website.MoboPlay you will know more from it.
after installing this PC suite, you can go to the “ToolBox” tab and select the option “Space Cleaner”. As soon as you do that, a popup window will appear with two tabs named, APK Files Cleanup and Large Files Cleanup.
{

}
It automatically scans through all the APK files to find and clear junk file. But if you want to free up more space, then try the large files cleanup.
then, you just simply click the “Large Files Cleanup” tab and hit the “Scan” button. It will scan your entire phone for large videos, images, unnecessary documents, etc. You can click the “Clean” button associated with each junk or large file to remove it instantly.
that’s all. very easy.
