Hello all. My wife is finally leaving Blackberry for Android. Since she is so used to having a physical keyboard, she opted for the Droid 3 as her first foray into Android since it has both touch and the physical keyboard. All I've ever owned are Samsung Android phones so I'm inexperienced with rooting and cwm on these phones. I plan to peruse the Droid 3 section tonight to attempt to get up to speed but was hoping for some quick tips and guides from my friendly Samsung brothers.
Also, is it true that once you root and do cwm and all that that the phone can't be unrooted and returned to stock? Does it permanently void your warranty. Trying to determine if its worth even doing it for this phone since my wife really isn't a power user but if its possible to go back to stock than I will do it.
Just looking for any tips and suggestions/help to get me jumpstarted tomorrow. Thanks much.

Not true, not with Odin anyways. You will need rsd, its like Odin for Motorola. But yes u can get it back to stock.

I was talking about the charge. To get back to full stock on a moto device, you need rsd lite 5.31 and the appropriate sbf file, all which can be found at the droid 3 forum.

hi everyone, i rooted my droid 2 a couple of months ago. the phone has been freezing up so i am going to take it into verizon but i need to get rid of any evidence that the phone was rooted. i was planning on doing an sbf recovery to "unroot" the phone and go back to stock. i downloaded rsd lite 4.9 and downloaded the 2.3.20 sbf file. how should i go about doing this, do i need to use ubuntu if so how? i have two computers to do this from one with windows xp os and vista os.
Maybe an SBF will fix your problems outright, so you don't have to take it to Verizon.
It's easier to do an SBF in Ubuntu but it's not a necessity.
Make sure that you have the required Motorola drivers installed. After that you need only run RSD Lite, plug your phone in, choose the SBF file, and watch it go.
I would recommend looking up a guide to SBFing for good measure, they're easy to find, and very helpful.

I ran rsd lite and found the sbf but it wouldn't let me hit start? Idk y.
ok, first i am new the forums but not new to the rooting game. I should've researched a little more before i went and jumped on the sprint deal. i just thought that the nexus s 4g had a much larger dev community. What i mean is, when i had my OGD it was the best thing that has ever happened to me, i mean it got soo much love and it was easy to modify. i moved to the DX after that and then jumped the NS4G for sprint. So here's my questions...
1)Can/is there a better radio to flash to improve data speeds other than the update?
2)can i flash some of the NS roms on my NS4G?
3)why is everything thru adb? i mean, why no zips and simple metamorphs?
4)a better comprehensive guide on how to use adb coming from where ive been. lol nowhere near using adb. i need this bad
5)any other kernels im not seeing?
6)will miui ever support 4G?
i just want to know as much as possible bc i have a lil baby girl and ive spent alot of time searching. i cant spent all day so i skim thru. please if there is any others questions that i shouldve asked please guide me in the right direction. lets get me up to speed as well as others. thanks guydes
There is plenty to flash for the ns4g.
The KE5 radio is the latest and by far the best. It came with the 2.3.5 ota.
There are plenty of kernels. Matr1x, netarchy, Trinity, Jame bond, just to name a few.
There are roms that are compatible with all versions of the nexus s. Read the rom descriptions.
I believe MIUI.us supports 4g but don't quote me on that.
The reason you see alot of ADB talk is because the Nexus s is considered a development phone. ADB is a more advanced and more reliable method. Of course you don't have to use ADB for everything. Most everything is made as zip files to be flashed from recovery like every other phone.
How old is your baby girl? I have a 9 month old so I can relate!
There are some really good guides in the development forum I suggest you read to become more familiar with the phone before you do something you regret. Good luck!

Unfortunately MIUI does not support 4g since there's no 4g in China.

I want to run miui but my 3g is incredibly slow here. I need 4g. Are any off you guys good or familiar with adb? See i'm miss that in cyanogenmod, where you could easily go into settings and change the status bar colors and such. Now I see you have to conduct mad science routines just to change it. Hell, anyone have a very good guide to learn this stuff from.

That should give you everything you need to root...plus links and such
I use this kernel on my stock rooted NexusS4G. The base 1 @ 1.2, tiny undervolt.
That guide is pretty helpful. I'm already rooted with deodexed stock
2.3.5 I look at that party everyday thinking it will get updated with something I haven't seen. I like the kernel to I think I might flash later after the bears game.

Make sure the recovery image is in the directory you have adb open from.

You will be happy once you've rooted. Just take your time and make sure you have everything ready. Practice manually rebooting/booting into recovery--get a good feeling for using the volume/power buttons. You will be fine.

Hey guys I am new to the charge. I really want to root but I have some concerns first. For one I have already replaced this phone twice since I got it. If I un-root it will Verizon notice I rooted it at all? Also how safe is it? I really don't want a $300 paper weight. I rooted my old sch-m828c from straightalk and the phone wouldn't connect to the computer anymore; is that a concern with the charge? As from the last sentence I have experience with odin but my old phone lost the root somehow and i was unable to boot it back to stock. Is the charge better about stuff like that? Please respond with any help. (Best mods, safest methods etc.) Thanks in advance!

All your questions can b answered if you just read the DC development forum posts, everything is there. Just do the research first, read all the posts.that is how I started. I read n reread all the posts for a month, downloaded relevant files made shure I understood what I read n followed the steps to rooting n flashing to the last letter. Never had any problems.

Honestly this phone is super easy. I was able to root with clockwork mod, install a custom kernal and flash a Tom in about two hour and evertlything worked first try and my first time ever doing any of it.
Followvthe instructions carefully and do exactly as they tell you and you should be fine.
Just rooted using the root 66 method. Worked great. Debloated a little bit but wanna try a custom Rom. I've read but can't seem to grasp how to flash roms yet. Can anyone offer some tips? Do you need adb or can you flash wherever ?
Edit mod please move this. I'm a moron who didn't pay attention sorry

Get ez-recovery, makes flashing different recoveries super easy. After flashing rom and setting up, go back to recovery and flash the kernal. That's what I did on synergy and imo's kernal. Beans v5 flashes it all at once. So far both run great with very good battery life.

Yup. You should give imo's kernal a shot, works great. Its a 2 step on synergy, but still no problem. Just passed my rezound down to the wife. If you flash any CM10 based ROM's you will have to do some extra steps. IMO you should just start off with Touch Wiz based ROMS so all you need to do is flash from your SD once and reboot.
This is a better place to talk about it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709There is also LOTS of "HOW TO" stuff there that should get you going.
