I'm trying to get ideas for an app so I can gain some programming experience and be a learning experience. It doesn't have to be too complicated. This is gonna be a long term project. So shoot me some ideas.

You could try make a graphing calculator app. Or an app to handle any differentiation or integration problems (be nice if you add reduction formulae). That way I can just use that app to get through my math.
Ah. Put my cal 2 from this semester to use. But try wolfram alpha first

I have a great idea for an app.... but if I share it with you, and you developed it, and it made you a ton of money... where would that leave me? Lol.....
Oh wait.... I would be bitter like apple is...
Can you create a scale app? That would be helpful when shopping.
Sound like you are off to a good start..!..Congrats...Good luck..
@cobra you can help me, there are a lot of tutorials out there for developing in android. I also expect this to take up to a year. This is more of a learning experience than anything. If it makes money we can be a team.
@amy the ipad has an app like that, but its only available for peple without warranty

start with something small that has already been done before like a battery widget or something to learn about making apps

ok guys imma try and make a rom for g2x with sense3.0, so i need alittle help, where do i start? and its there a thread i can read on that will help me alittle?
and if anyone will let me use their patches and stuff i guess we can both take credit? but i (and who ever helps me out) will be the first to make sencce for g2x
Try Google.
Also, not trying be a ****... Okay maybe a little... But proof read your sh*t, man... Some of your posts are damn near incomprehensible...

sounds like he wants to try and learn how to develop rom's, with no experience in development. but he's wanting to build a rom for the g2x that incorporates sense3.0? that's what i interpreted.
So someone needs to go to the book store, library, or Google and start reading on Linux, java (more app based from what i read), and other books on code that's used in mobile development
correct me if I'm wrong anywhere in this response.

That's exactly what I am talking about... How many times have you written something like that after someone responds to your posts? I get that you want to do a sense rom for the g2x... It also seems like you want to use others work(and give them credit, of course). Hop on to amazon or head to your local bookstore, there are whole sections about android development...

Expert developers are EXTREMELY challenged to port over platforms from other brands. To think that your going to do it with no experience is never gonna happen. Start easy, download CM source code, try to modify things, and maybe in a few months you can put something out for us. If making a rom was that easy, we would all do it.
Were do I start!!!!

get a book and read.
start with learning JAVA (this is if you have no programming experience)
once your familiar with JAVA and feel comfortable reading JAVA code and writting in JAVA.
then go get a book on ANDROID Development. I found a great book to learn about android development called " Hello Android", by the first 15 pages i had already made a somewhat complete Sudoku app, not out of interest but as this was the lesson in the book i was on.
No one can help you until you want to help your self, not trying to be a dbag but sounds like your wanting someone to walk you through step by step and through previous experience trying to verbally or explain to someone through text on to do something as complex as coding with them having little or no knowledge on the fundamentals and basics is/will be very difficult and frustrating for you and the person trying to guide you.
ps... might not hurt if you learn how to read/write/understand linux as android is based ontop of linux from my understanding

I have become fluent in the gibberish kids use today.
Where or were? Imma or I am or I'm?
It really makes you question the quality of the public education system. I am not a grammar nazi, but some days I just have to shake my head.

I am looking for an app that i can use to do vehicle inspections, i am in charge of inspecting all the used cars that my dealer group buys and right now i am just doing it the old fashioned way i would like it to be a full blown software that will allow me to input pictures and then make a final report that i can email to the next person.
i have found a few things but no luck
i like this but the company has yet to get back to me
www.inspect2go.com/inspection/vehicle/
how hard would this be?
can anyone help?
thanks
matt
can anyone help out or direct me in a way?
I don't think you will find such an app in the market at the moment i'd suggest to use oldschool methods but i do know there is a few app to test torque and such

I think this is a great idea more generally. If there's a developer out there I think automotive support apps would be tremendously useful for a lot of people. I would pay for something that let me keep track of what maintenance I need to do and how to do it.
I was considering developing on MiUI styled messaging application for non MiUI roms. But at heart I am a data driven developer. If you want, contact me by inbox and we can see if this is possible and how easy it would be to implement. Obviously the clearer the specs, the easier it is to get started on a project like this
Perhaps something like evernote or extensive notes might work for you.

Hey all, I have created a new site called the Andy Student Handbook(or ASH), which is basically the hub for all high school and college android fans, enthusiasts, devs, etc. Its really great, check it out please. If you want very specific details on what ASH is and does, check out the site! I have an introduction article that will give the gist of what it is all about. Also, if you want to become an article writer for ASH, please follow the instructions provided in order to "apply", I can only accept a limited number of writers at the moment (maybe two or three) but as the site's traffic increases, so will the number of needed writers. So, if I can't accept you now, tell every android enthusiast you know to visit (even though the site is targeting the high school and college population, my articles can still very well offer great advice to anyone), and you never know, a spot may just so happen to slide into place! Without further ado, check my site out
P.S. - If the template changes, I am simply changing things up, dont freak out lol

I applaud your idea and the work you put in already - I think this is a great idea - I spent a little time reading today and learned some things in the process - best of luck - I will be looking for new articles and can't wait to see what you plan for the future - great stuff.
Man this is good I was reading a lot of them then was mad because there where no more articles I will be watching it like a hawk ^_^

This may come off as somewhat of a rant but this has bothered me for sometime now. Whenever a rom developer releases a new version they include a change log. That change log tells you what they added or took away obviously.
Now my question is why would a developer add in the change log "even more!" added to every change log as if it would increase my excitement to try the rom?
My personal opinion is that it doesn't increase my excitement . To me It makes the developer look unprofessional. It makes it seem as if the developer did not keep notes of every change they made to the new version. It makes me think they add it to try and get more donations from their loyal fans.
As a programmer details are important and I want details. Adding in fluff is not necessary and makes the rom look unattractive to those who know what they are actually doing when they flash someone else's rom.
Would you risk putting sand in your gas tank if it was advertised to increase mileage? Then why would you do it to a expensive piece of equipment you purchased?

I completely agree. Writing software professionally requires that you keep a detailed and updated log about the changes you make.
I'd love to go to one of those threads and ask the 'developer', "So.. what do you mean by 'Even more!!'?" (I realize that the punctuation in that last sentence was crazy haha). I'm sure he wouldn't be able to respond, with anything logical. If he surprised me with actual details however, all I'd tell him to do was put that in the damn changelog!
Watching the way XDA has transitioned over the years, I too agree that most of the time it is just a ploy to get more donations. Seems XDA has been going that way for a while now.
You would get flamed immediately.

Are you talking about me?
That's because many many "developers" are simply not professionals, maybe they are not old enough to understand that or they are not serious about development and are just learning. Think you are talking about cooks though.
Guys you have to remember. This is a hobby to most people and they do it for fun not professionally. Its easier with aosp as you can see the changes on the git.

No. You asked what would happen if you asked a dev about it. My response was that you would get flamed.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I realize most people who do it steal someone else's rom, make a few changes and try to get donations.
There is some dev for my phone that is on version 20 of his rom and only has 2k views. Every change log says "even more! I cant remember". Seems sketchy. Anyway you guys get the idea. Be honest and professional about a rom.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Its a hobby and for fun you don't have to be professional about it heck if w developer wanted to he could right go fk yourself in the change log in fact one of our developers does that but he makes one of the best ROMs lol

That's how it is sadly, but there are 'devs' without 'RD' titles who do it for hobby, support multiple devices, take no donations because it is their hobby and give proper changelogs with link to gerrit. It depends on the individual.
I have recently graduated from high school, and I love working with computers. I am facing a problem where I am not too sure on what field to go into that is IT related. I wanted to go into programming, but I have heard that a lot programming jobs are being taken over seas (I live in US) Anyways, what would you suggest me to go into? I am looking for something with decent pay and good demand.
I am sorry if this is not the right place to ask, but I figured everyone here is into IT. Thanks in advance.
Here are my choices: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1484678/Capture.PNG
Edit: I did take 1 year of Java programing in HS and it was pretty cool.

That's ok. Many first time college students have second thoughts on the major they first pick. However, I see from the list you provided that all those majors also need you to be decent in math. So it's fine that you aren't the best, but as long as you have a good understanding of it, then you should do fine. Also with choosing engineering you can switch to other engineering and computer science majors quite easily, which means you can double major . At least you went big with your major list.
