Hi,
To start with, I love the screen of the Infuse 4G but I don't really have eye problems so I want the fonts to be smaller and maybe the icons too. I'm wondering if there is a way to make all the fonts smaller or make the resolution higher? Its just that I find that the texts to big for my taste so I wanted to change it. Hope someone replies to my email.
Thanks!
Find LCD density in the market, needs root though.
Nitrality, find it in the market. Its better than LCD density and it stays after boot/reboots, also has other options in which are quite useful
Big dog Infuse I997 GB KJ4
ROM Toolbox, has all the useful tools rolled into one. build.prop editor for LCD density as well as WIFI scan interval, VM heap size, etc. Also has setcpu built in, app manager, ROM utilities, et al.
Thanks guys!
Thanks guys! I've tried the LCD Density and making everything small is only good on some stuff. When it comes to the Notification bar, it gets too small to see, is there any app that you can balance everything? Or should I just create my own theme?

Try setting your LCD density at 200. That should give you a good balance.

200 is enough but I just noticed that everything got messed up, like the positions of elements like icons, texts, labels and stuff
I'm set 182

That's strange! Except for stock dialer, none of my other apps are conked! Everything is so perfect on my phone.

+1
I set mine between 190 and 220
I keep changing back and forth.
I agree, the screen is sooo big, there's so much workspace, that is why I run the screen density smaller and cram stuff on our huge screen
be careful too... some apps wont download from the market, you will get an error saying the app in incompatible with our device... simple way around that...
switch back to stock density (240)... download the app, run it once just to be sure... and switch back to whatever density you are comfortable running..

ok so i had the INFUSE, where i would just edit the build prop and change the DPI of the screen....and it worked great. but it does not seem to have the same effect on the skyrocket...i notice alot of dead space on the screen when doing this that was NOT on the infuse. it made things smaller in proper proportion to the screen, on the skyrocket it seems to make the Screen windows smaller and odd looking.
any ideas?
nope doesn't seem like anyone figured this out outside of using a different launcher & dialer.
I switched to go launcher, even though touch wiz seemed to work pretty well. kept the dialer for now.

so if i pic another launcher it will eliminate the dead space at the bottom of the screen?
yes. the dead space is just due to touchwiz being setup just for the one resolution. other launchers are set up to do more as they aren't device specific.
The dialer will still have dead space, you can get go contacts/go dialer if you choose.
Does changing the density this way cause the same problem as using the density changer app on the market? If you change the density with the app it makes most apps on the market imcompatible and will not allow you to download them.

yes it still causes the apps not show up in the market....in which case i switch it back then download and switch back again once it is on my phone.
Can someone tell me the screen density on the stock AT&T ROM?? I changed mine and want to change back for apps, but I can't remember. I've tried like 5 levels and still have apps showing as not compatible.
TIA!

I believe it's 240.
Thanks...!
No prob. I usually have to clear my market cache after I switch back to stock density for the incompatible message to go away.

If the market and apps didnt break when using this, it would be amazing.
what is the logic behind the market not working?

thanks, are any of those permanent though, instead of having to switch back to 240 every time?
It annoys me to only have one notification icon visible in portrait mode, especially since I'm running the 7p in 140DPI mode and have plenty of space there for more icons. Does anyone know how to increase the amount of icons on the status bar?
I run mine at 130 and it seemed to be able to accommodate 4 icons (including that stupid zoom/stretch icon).

Is that in portrait mode? And they actually display, not just that there seems to be room enough?
EDIT: set mine to that too and now I get multiple...weird
What do you use to set the dpi?
ALso, wouldnt this make everything else looks weird? I.e. Go Launcher, widgets, etc.
DPI changer or what it's called. Doesnt make anything look weird, just makes icons and such smaller. Gives you more room for "content".
Tried 130DPI, but changed back to 140. Don't like the added stuff ADW displays at that DPI,
What is the stock dpi? Just rooted and changed the dpi but can't remember what the default was. 160?

Hmm, downloaded DPI Changer and when run, it said it "...unable to read configuration file..."
I am rooted and SU show it allows DPI Changer.
wait a minute there...
won't a lower dpi than the default 160 display stuff bigger on the screen and thus have less room for icons and stuff. so, how did u get more notification icons with lower dpi?

No, but I understand why you would think that. Android decides interface element sizes based on screen size, not resolution, since a finger needs the same physically sized button no matter what resolution it's displayed at. The OS is unaware of the screen size, but is aware of its own resolution and DPI. The screen size is then given by those two numbers. If you lower the DPI the OS then thinks it has a bigger screen on its hands because the same resolution with a lower DPI than before must imply a larger screen, so it changes the layout based on that
Anyone had any luck changing the LCD density on the ICS leak? I tried it using LCD Modder Pro and it resulted in a soft brick.

I'm trying LCD Resolution, it says it needs busybox installed.
I go to the market and try to get an installer for busybox, and apparently market is broken for me - I can't download anything from it. Updates work fine, but can't get anything new.
I've been unsuccessful in getting the LCD resolution to change. I tried LCD Resolution with no change (no soft brick though). Also tried modifying the build.prop directly, that resulted in a soft brick.
I resolved my market broken issue (just reinstalled ICS through odin).
Going to try it after my nandroid backup is done. Fingers crossed!
EDIT:
On further thought and some googling, a lot of the LCD density changing apps on the market have disclaimers about it not working on certain devices, or ICS. So I would actually be surprised if the ways of doing it on 2.3.5 will work on 4.0+
EDIT:
Alright, gave it a shot. It won't work. In fact, some of the icons appear larger. Didn't break my phone at all though, just a quick reboot and it was back to normal. I'm going to keep trying different ways.

I haven't been able to get it yet..
I'm hoping that once the custom ROMs start rolling out I'll be able to figure it out. I'm good at getting into those and changing things, but I'm bad at manipulating just my phone.
---------- Post added at 11:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:54 PM ----------
Yeah editing the build file just gave me a soft brick as well.. bummer.
EDIT:
I tried adding a new line to the build.prop - My phone appeared to soft brick, and when I was trying to boot it into CWM it somehow booted up. But nothing had changed. Weird..
Also the apps on the market that claim to work with ICS don't for me.
Also, I heard that the Galaxy S II folks had this weird issue of there being TWO LINES that you needed to change... but from what I could tell (I looked over the file very carefully) there is only that one line.

WORKED. Going to check it with 160 (what I used). Excellent find man, thanks!!
EDIT: Ah my phone is so beautiful now. Works perfectly, now if I can only figure out how the app is getting the job done.. haha
That worked perfectly. I was trying to change it for hours. Thanks! I am using 160 too. Looks great, better than with Gingerbread!
What exactly does changing this do?
This changes the resolution of your screen.

Ahh, thank you. Saved me! I did not want to revert back to GB, but do not enjoy a senior friendly UI either!
Ok, I tried this and not sure what is going on.
When I do, the icons get smaller, but instead of using all the screen realestate, I have a large section of unused space that I can't do anything with.
What am I missing or what am I doing wrong?
After you've changed the density, you'll want to change the number of columns/rows of your launcher to make use of the extra space.
Awesome! Rooted up my skyrocket on ICS! First root for me on my first android! And just got my skyrocket yesterday!
I changed mine to 200, it's way better this way. I did it through the rom toolbox as suggested.
There is a small lag though going back to the home screen, are you guys experience this as well?
Any suggestions on fixing the dial pad? I've done some searching and it seems most of the fixes aren't for us.. yet.

You change it in your launcher settings. I'd highly recommend Nova launcher. It acts like the AOSP ICS launcher (with the widgets section integrated into the app drawer). By default the desktop space is 4 rows by 4 columns, but you can change this. I'm experimenting with what works for me with a 160 density.

Thanks, that helped, now how do I create folders in Nova launcher? Can't figure this out for the life of me.
EDIT:
Nevermind, figured it out, it's like the iOS way of creating folders. Just drag and drop 1 app onto another.
Hmm, noticed that the disagree didn't resize either. Can anyone recommend a good dialer?
Exdialer is great.

I am trying to change the DPI with:
adb shell wm density 300
the above works correctly. but anything lower, the screen continuously flickers and is unusable.
for example, can't get the following to work:
adb shell wm density 200
any suggestions?
once we get root, this becomes very easy!!! thanks.
why would someone change the density from 480 (stock set in build.prop) to 200? i think its too low density, that all icons and text will be too small.
200 may be too low, but i like to see more contents on the screen. may be 300 is optimal.
Do you have any luck with this? When I change to 320 the navbar is blank in landscape.
ok, i am able to change the lcd density to 360 without issues.
anything less than 300 (say 280), the screen keeps flickering and it is unusable. don't know why.

I dont know what is IIRc, but the DPI of nexus 4 is 318 so going to 160 is 50%.
Idol3 has 403 so 200 is below 50% (anyway in build.prom is dPI set to 480 ). I think its too low res and the system is nod made for such low res. It simly dont know how to handle it.
Just my opinion.

I totally forgot about this command to change DPI! I am so glad you posted this. I was about to root my phone just so I could change DPI. I hate big icons and text. I will end up rooting anyway but this way I don't have to eff with the build.prop as some people have said causes issues with this phone. I set mine to 360 which is perfect... Nova launcher will help me optimize from there
Thanks

not really. just try it out - you have nothing to lose and you can easily revert back.
once you get used to the increased screen real estate, you will never go back.
sort of reminds me when I went from 1024x768 to 1280x1024 resolution on some monitor some 15+ years ago.
I experimented at 360 and 400. Both looked good. No strange behavior in the short time I used each of them. I'm not sure what I'll do. I liked 400 a little better than 360. But I might live with the stock 480, too, even though for some things, I preferred the lower dpi. It is like going to higher resolution on a computer monitor and this screen is big enough to benefit.
ROM Toolbox is good for these kinds of edits, though direct editing of build.props is easy enough. Make a backup of that file before you edit it.
