[ROM] dReWs-Ginger_FauxICS v.Beta2 (HTC Hero CDMA) **Updated 11/06/2011** - Hero CDMA Android Development

Ever since my laptop crashed with Vista, which also happened to bork my recovery, I've been running Linux (Ubuntu 10.10) on it. Since I was now running Linux natively on my laptop, I decided to try to cook a ROM just to do it. With that said, I'd like to introduce to you my very first attempt at cooking with Android... Ginger_FauxICS (v.Alpha3.1).
This ROM was built using kushdeck's gingerbread-hero-deck 1.3 as a base. The only thing I added was a Juwell's RAM optimization script which I had modified ever so slightly, ACS's ICSLauncher, and Pins Music Mod. From the Ice Cream Sandwich system dump, I also added the ICS bootanimation, font, and some icons. I also swapped out some pngs in the framework-res.
For that all around ICS look, you can also flash DameonAndMeagan's ICS Ring Lock Mod which you can grab from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312431
This was originaly a ROM that I baked for a friend of mine since my Hero is no longer activated. When I flashed it on my friend's phone, everything worked and it seems to be running pretty snappy.
Please note that I am in no way a developer of any kind. I'm just a dood that likes to tinker with electronics. All I did was piece together different elements created by the hardworking devs of our awesome community. All the credit goes to them.
Some features:
ICS themed CM7.1 (Launcher, Fonts, Icons, etc.)
Ram Optimization
Deodexed
Apps2Ext
and more...
Also here's a video of an older version of this ROM in action:

- Initial Release
Installation Instructions:
- Download ROM from here:
http://sirthumpalot.blogspot.com/2011/10/rom-overview-drews-gingerfauxics.html
- Place ROM on the root of your sdcard
- Put phone into recovery
- Navigate to "Backup and Restore" and backup your current setup first (Optional but I always backup just in case"
- Once fully backed up, wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache twice. I wipe twice just because I'm OCD like that.
- Go to "Format and Mount" and format boot, cache, data, and system. (If you're curently running and ext4 partition on your sdcard already, you may also want to format the sdext as well)
- From there, flash the ROM (gapps with vvm already baked into the ROM)
- You're done.
**User TIPS**
Per InsaneHien
- ROM can be flashed using Darchstar's Amon RA recovery if you resign the zip using PPCGeeks Android APK & Zip Signer program
- Enabling 16-bit transparency in advanced settings speeds up homescreen scrolling
**Known Issues**
Per gidkid - "When you tap the soft home button on the launcher while on the main homescreen, when you return from the helicoptor view, the soft buttons and the app drawer button are gone. They return with a quick reboot of the launcher, or after some time using other apps..."
Solution: Another solution other than restarting the launcher is also simply pressing the back button. That worked for me anyway.
Also per gidkid - "...while scrolling the app drawer, there are some hangups..."
Solution: I'm not sure how to fix this as of yet as it may be an issue caused by how the launcher app reacts to our phone's device limitations. I'll see if I can work something out.
If you dig this ROM and would like to donate to this project, please donate to the Devs listed above instead (Their donation links should be listed in their corresponding URLs). They work hard to enhance the user experience we get from our devices and for that we owe them a debt of gratitude.
If you wish, you can also feel free to donate to the OccupyWallStreet Movement (http://occupywallst.org). Just like many others in this country, I've been struggling to find work and have lost my house to foreclosure. I believe the political and economic foundation of our great country no longer works for the people as it was originally intended, thus, we must work towards changing the overall state of affairs. We must hold onto what makes this country great. Work towards, once again, having a government of the people, for the people, by the people. We are the 99%. Thanks for reading.

There was something familiar about the intro to your video preview, sure enough you're the fella who did an installation/semi-review of wildhero a while back on your youtube channel. Thanks!

Maybe I meant 3.x or whateverz. Basically it needs to support the newer scripting as opposed to the ones we've grown to know and love back in the Amon RA recovery days. Miss those days, man!

Looks amazing. Always good to see something new around this forum. Thanks! I'll try it out and report back soon. If everything runs well, this could be a great ROM.

Just flashed this, and it was kinda slow until I enabled 16-bit transparency in the advanced settings. Now the scrolling speed on home screen is fast.
Also, this works with Amon's RA recovery. The ROM just needs to be signed so that it'll flash.

Thanks for the tip on the scrolling speed. I'll add it to the original post.
In regards to getting it to flash with Amon RA, did you have to change the script type for it to work?

So far, I'm liking this ROM. It looks nice, and while it was a bit of a shock going back to AOSP/CM after a while with Sense, it was worth it for the ICS looks.
It's not slow, not by a long shot. It's not perfectly smooth, either, and, especially while scrolling the app drawer, there are some hangups, with or without 16 bit scrolling enabled.
The one little bug I found was that when you tap the soft home button on the launcher while on the main homescreen, when you return from the helicoptor view, the soft buttons and the app drawer button are gone. They return with a quick reboot of the launcher, or after some time using other apps, but it's slightly inconvenient while they're gone.
Other than that, great ROM, great contribution. I'll be running this as my daily pending GPS and other tests.

I appreciate the detailed feedback. I believe you can simply press the back button when the soft buttons and app drawer disappear. I'm not sure what causes that unfortunately and I may not be able to look into it anytime soon cuz I have about two weeks to pack up my entire house to move. I'll see what i can do. I'm glad ya dig it. Cheers!

And now, v.2.1 for SkyRaider!
First of all thanks to the Unrevoked Team for everything they have contributed to the Incredible, as well as many other Android Decices, development community. Thanks to Koush and the CyanogenMod team for their awesome work and roms. Thanks to CVPCS for their Crystal Clear roms and contributions. Thanks to ihtfp69 for his SkyRaider rom. Thanks to invisiblek for the Droid 2 keyboard port (theme includes themed Droid 2 Multi-Touch Keyboard Port) and any other Developers I have forgotten to or should have mentioned.
Warning: Flash at your own risk... If this bricks or damages your phone in any way, I am not responsible.
Installation
Always Nandroid Backup First!!!
Simply flash the corresponding update.zip file from sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery over your current CM6 or Ruby rom. Reboot phone and allow to load up. For CM, go into ADW Settings/Drawer Settings/ and change Drawer Background Color to: #77FFFFFF. Enjoy...
Keep in mind this is a pre version 1 of the theme and still have quite a bit of work to do on the theme. The SkyRaider version is only a quick port and not quite up to par with the other versions. Any comments would be appreciated as well as suggestions as long as they are constructive. Thank you.

I've themed the Dialer, I will post a screen shot. As far as the market, I've only themed some notifications so far but will be doing so more.
Sounds good and looking forward to what you have in store. As you progress will updates be able to just replace the existing theme and will this be something added to ROM manager or just have to download and update in recovery? I am def thinking about switching to possibly Ruby to use this from skyraider only issue is Ruby seems to do a lot of rebooting at least according to the thread even though I know it's not across the board.

As for the pre version 1 updates, they will only be on this forum. Once I'm ready to release v1 across the board, I will get with Koush and see if he wants to add them to Rom Manager. The updates I will post, you will be able to just apply over current/previous version themes using recovery.
As far as using Ruby, try using an alternate kernel. I know I've had issues with waking up the phone with stock kernel, but had better luck using Adrynalyne's alternate CM/Ruby kernel as well as KingxKernel's AOSP OC kernel. So give that a try, if not then just try to stick it out until I release v1 for SkyRaider. Just make sure to Nandroid and if you have issues, just flash back to your SkyRaider Nandroid. Let me know if you have any other questions. By the way, are you running SkyRaider Sense or Vanilla?

I might just stick it out since I have no issues with Skyraider and having the 3G hotspot and being able to have portions of sense are nice. I am using Vanilla with the theme from TouchPro Gray sky v0.3 as it has a lot of things themed. If you need/want a tester for when the time comes for skyraider def let me know and I appreciate you getting back and answering my ?'s.
please make it for sense ?????
After figuring out which rom-kernal combo works best for me, I finally find a theme that I really like. I have gone from colorful but busy looking themes to simple black and white. Thank you and congrats for such fine work. BTW, funny how a white notification bar can look less busy/crowded looking even though you have everything going on using full icons.
I am using Ruby 1.1.1 and King's ASOP Kernal. I am coming from Ruby 1.1.1, King's ASOP. I have two issues that are new since flashing this theme. (Forgive me if this is in the wrong thread) I did a complete wipe of EVERYTHING and clean installed Ruby and Gapps prior to flashing....in the right order:
1) Ruby users, as of now, cannot have the transparent drawer. Is that correct?
2) The keyboard force closes. There seems to be two different keyboards. The FC's happens when the keyboard has the voice input button-all apps that use that keyboard. When using Gmail, the keyboard doesn't have voice input. When long pressing on a text window to display input method(s), two "Android Keyboard" choices appear. This is the first time I have had keyboard issues so pardon me if I am missing something or sound like a noob, etc
Lastly a real noob question. What is that flip clock widget called? I haven't used a Sense rom in so long, I don't know where to start looking for the one you are using in the screen shots.

To answer your first question, I don't know if the Laucher2 apk is compatible with transparent app drawer. I've only themed ADW launcher on CM but haven't themed Launcher2 in Ruby.
As far as the keyboards, I didn't test both keyboards until now. The themed multi-touch keyboard works perfectly with voice input as well. The Android/Google keyboard does force close when typing, but voice input does work properly for me. I will look into it. I might have to make a separate optional update for the themed keyboard that will remove the other keyboard. Thanks for letting me know.
Lastly, the actual HTC clock widget will not work in a non Sense rom. The app I am using in my screen shots is Beautiful Widgets, which you can purchase from Android Market.
@motempo Thx! Ah, Beautiful Widgets...I keep forgetting about BW. Anyway, thanks again. Look forward to using your theme and following this thread. Screen shot of keyboard FC. I have determined the FC is not caused by any letter combo or multi touch(ing). No worries as I just close window and repeat what I was typing, from the first letter of the word, however. Voice input works as you said. Again, the Gmail keyboard works as it should.

I was able to reproduce that exact FC. Try using the multi-touch keyboard. Hold your finger down inside a textbox and select multi-touch keyboard. Haven't had any FC's with that one. If you don't like the multi-touch let me know and I'll whip up a quick update to fix your android keyboard and remove multi-touch.

Updated now with SkyRaider Beta Version, as per your request.
I like multi touch......you might have to hold my hand a little on this one....
I see the multi touch settings in settings>language &keyboard>muliti-touch keyboard so I assume it is installed. When I long press on a text field, I only have "Android Keyboard" as the choices...it shows two different choices, both labeled the same. I have clicked on both but it doesn't change the keyboard. I don't mind re-installing, etc. The only thing I have changed since flashing is that I use Launcher Pro. With Launcher Pro uninstalled and with ADW, I still have the keyboard in question and can't get muli touch to appear
Edit: to be clear, I'd rather use multi touch but an Android Keyboard fix is no problem. Most important is knowing what I did wrong

Well, for those of you who know me, I've decided to finally give Android ROM building a shot. It's a learning process, but I'm picking up on it pretty quickly, and I must say it's a ton of fun so far . I owe my inspiration to the likes of theimpaler747. zenulator, and of course, NFinitefx45. These guys all work hard to bring you great stuff, without their advice, I'd be nothing.
I need beta testers! I've been using this ROM for some time now but I need YOU to tell me if there's anything wrong with it . Please go easy on me, I'm still learning the ropes of this stuff. Any and all feedback is appreciated! If any of you veteran ROM devs come across this, feel free to drop me some advice
Also, I need help figuring out why this version only has 107 MB of free space. Does Deodex really take up more space like that?
Click to collapse
Who is this ROM for?
This is for a pretty broad range of people; those who are interested in stock Sense minus the bloat. I've removed a fair amount of bloat, including all the Sprint apps and a few HTC apps/Widgets that I feel are of little value. The ROM is also fully png-optimized, as well as zipaligned. What differs this ROM from my other one is that this is Deodexed, meaning it's open for a lot of the theming mods. You do lose a bit of speed compared to the ODEX, but this ROM is still quite fast.
What is this ROM's base?
This ROM is based off of Nfinitefx45's fantastic rooted .7 DEODEX release (link). While we're on that topic, I'd like to say that all the credit for rooting/getting the base of this ROM out the door is ENTIRELY credited to Nfinite. I take no credit for the rooting process, the addition of busybox, the addition of A2SD, and anything that you see in his .7 thread. Nfinite is a genius, and he has inspired me to create this offshoot of his ROM.
So what do I gain by trying this?
You gain quite a bit of speed, and with this specific ROM, you get the ability to flash third party theme zips. Don't forget to Nandroid before doing so!

~ Kernel: Zen's AnyKernel with no Perflock (Set to 691 by default, can be pushed to 768 if desired)
~ All apks fully zipaligned and all image files are fully png-optimized. This results in faster performance and smaller size.
~ Free space on first boot: ~107 MB (Need help figuring out why)
Included Apps:

~ Busybox (Credits for installation goes to NFinite)
~ Apps2SD (Again, credits for installation goes to Nfinite)
~ Quickboot
~ EStrongs File Manager
Removed:
~ Amazon Mp3
~ Learn More APK (As if you really need this )
~ Twitter + Widget
~ Google Maps (Can be installed from Market)
~ Stock App + Widget
~ Flickr
~ Facebook App (Sync is still there, the app can be installed from the Market)

Addons - I suggest you use Android Commander to push these back in.
Removed System APKs - This contains all the removed Widgets and APKs from System/App. This does not include GMaps/QuickOffice. To use, unzip it, delete what what you don't want, and either adb push it into system/app or use Android Commander to do so. You MUST use these, not the zip from my other ROM.
Removed Data APKs (Coming Soon) - This currently includes Google Maps and Quickoffice. Both of these can be DLed from the market, and it's probably easier to do it that way, not to mention the ones on the market will always be up to date. However, if you'd prefer to save a bit of time, they are here for you. They do not need to be pushed, simply drop em on your SD card, and enable Unknown Sources temporarily and install using a file manager. HINT: If you don't want to grab a file manager or want to save some time, just copy the download URL, paste it in an email message to yourself, and open it from your phone. The phone's browser will handle the downloading of the APK, and you can just tap the apk from the list of downloads to initiate the install .
Removed Ringtones - These are all the ringtones that were removed. The reason they are not in the ROM is because they are better off on your SD card, freeing up a whole 2 MB on your system memory. What I suggest you do (to avoid having to adb push all of these) is to simply make a folder on your SD card with the following path :media\audio\ringtones\ . Put all the ringtones in there, and that way, no matter what ROM you use in the future, you'll always have the ringtones in there . If you'd prefer not to do this, you can adb push or use Android Commander to push them to system\media\audio\ringtones\.
Mods
~ Go out there and find mods! When you try them, let me know whether or not they work. They will be listed here, with full credit to the author for creating the mod, and credit to you for testing it
Liquid's Tips!
~ On first startup, sign into your Google account but don't do Facebook sync. Wait till you boot into the ROM, and connect to a wifi hotspot (if you have one). Once the sync icon goes away, and your google account has finished syncing, then get started with Facebook sync. Remember, Facebook sync, at least for the Contacts syncing, happens in tiers. It'll do, for instance, A-E first, wait a bit, and then it will do F-P, etc etc. Have some patience .
~ Battery! As much as always on sync is, there are a couple things you can do to lengthen your battery life. For instance, for Google, I always leave Gmail sync on. But ask yourself, how often are you adding/removing Contacts from your Google account? I don't do that too often, so uncheck contacts. Also, unless I have major changes to be made to my Google Calender, I also leave GCal syncing off as well. Once it finishes its first-time sync, all your events are there anyway. Next up, Facebook! The big deal for me for Facebook is that I run it once and my Contact images sync together. I'm not a big user of the Live feed. So for me, once my contacts' images finish syncing, I leave both unchecked. These two tweaks will save you some juice
~ GPS! I've found that using the same fix for faulty GPS locks in CM6 in this ROM actually improves the GPS lock time like mad. Grab "GPS Status" from the Marketplace and reset/redownload the A-GPS cache. After I did this, I had a super accurate lock in under 4 seconds using Google Maps
~ Task Killers! In my experience, I've found that task killers tend to do more harm than good. My suggestion is to simply place a shortcut to "Running Services" on your homescreen, and check it periodically. For instance, GTalk Service likes to come up every so often, and when it does, I just end it. For the most part, I've done well without a task killer. Android was designed to manage its memory pretty well! Again, I know this is a debated idea, so take with a grain of salt
~ Random bits:
I've found that pressing Menu while in the Sense App Drawer and switching to List View makes the scrolling a bit faster and smoother
Not using all 7 homescreens? Make sure there's no widgets on the ones you're not using. I've found marginally better performance and battery life from doing so.

Pardon? This is the prep post for the upcoming Deodexed version of this ROM.
It will be uploaded shortly. I'm calling for any mod users and themers to test it out for when it's ready, which, as said, should be available within the hour.
I have the odex version of liquidsense and i like it alot! It's awesome... Cant wait to try out the deodexed version!

Excellent! Can you show me a screenshot of what it looks like? Use ADB or ShootMe . I plan on running JsChisurf's update.zip through the same optimization scripts that I used for this ROM to ensure maximum speed.

I'd like to try this
A longtime lurker here, I've recently switched from Windows Mobile to Android, but have stayed with HTC Hardware. I lurk a lot, but thought I'd chime in to test this one. Just flashed it with no problems, and it seems pretty zippy so far. I'm also hoping it solves the Facebook contacts issues with Sprint, but I won't hold that against you if it doesn't.
It's my first custom Android rom, so I'm about as basic a user as you can get. I have a pretty tech background though, and used to flash my WinMo phones all the time, so i'm not completely lost.
I'll let you know how it goes...

ApeX V1.0.2.5 for Droid 2 - 2 parts AOSP, 1 part Blur, all ApeX
*If you watch the video below, please just skip to 1:00, and ignore my blabbering about requiring a leaked kernel. That is no longer true for the DX, and was never true for the D2. Thanks!*

-Ditched Launcher2 in favor of ADW.Launcher
-Fixed a few framework graphic bugs (ty Team DeFuse!)
-Additional sysctl.conf mods (ty nenolod & drod!)
-Added fly in pop-up animations and flipping transitions (ty johnclevenger @ XDA!)
-A few new scripts to choose between AOSP and Blur apps
-Ad Blocking toggle (enabled by default)
-Stability, reliability, enjoyability
Credits to P3Droid, TBH, Team DeFuse, Xeudoxus, Beesley, Cyanogen, Pete, and many more. Without all the contributions of the devs to the Android community, this would not be possible. Thanks!

-Vanilla Android Theme w/ 10% battery percentages in bar

OR
-Place file on your sdcard. Bootstrap recovery and reboot recovery
-Navigate to mounts and storage. FORMAT data, and cache
-Return to previous menu and install .zip from sd card

QUIRKS
-The Blur Email app (default email app) will FC if you do not have an account added through My Accounts. Just add an account first.
-If you're using another launcher besides ADW, do not use the 'Search' widget. That's for ADW only. It'll get stuck at the top of your screen if you use it on LauncherPro. Use the 'Google Search' widget instead.
-Swype is not preinstalled, but this ROM installs a folder called 'ApeX' on your sdcard, where there will be a working version of Swype for you to install, if you so choose

Got a quick question. In your DX video preview, you said that the firmware for the DX needs to be 2.3.320 and the new Froyo build 2.2.1. Is this also the case for the Droid 2, or are we good to go on the OTA 2.3.20?

This looks pretty darn sweet. Any known bugs or issues with the rom? How is the overclocking? Know it's relatively useless but any word on how quadrant scores compare?
I may give this a try once the themes are over too, me likes it.

Using the oc app from the market, running at 1.45, I ran a quad of 1774 and my linpack was 19.894. Pretty solid numbers. As far as I can tell all the bugs have been worked out. FM radio even works
* Im not sure why, but I seem to be getting worse service with this rom. My girls stock D2 has 3 bars in our house, and mine use to Now, and since I flashed it, Im getting 0-1 bar in m house.
What "minimalistic" themes are you guys referring to? There are themes available in the 2nd post.

Is this a AOSP rom like Epic Unleashed?
Does it have some of the cool settings like in Epic Unleashed?
Will this ROM work with Droid 2 2.3.20 update?
(Kind of a dumb question

Try dialing *22899. It relocates your phone and syncs them to the nearest towers. Kinda just updates your signal to the network. Sometimes when flashing a new rom I lose signal or i don't get 3g right away, then I do that and it works fine.

CREDITS:
First and foremost, a huge thanks to the guys at Samfirmware for making this possible!
This rom incorporates the work of many AndroidCentral and XDA users.
Huge thanks to the development community.
This is Open Source!
Want to make or edit your own personal rom?
Take a look at my personal kitchen!
Known Issues:- If your sdcard does not have a folder called "clockworkmod", you must create it prior to installation. It should exist if you've ever made a Nandroid backup.
- 4G Toggle button exists in scroll-able toggle mod.
- 4G Toggle button is missing from the 9-lock mod, to enable 4g, have to go into Settings>Wireless and Network>4G Settings>4G (turn on 4g) or get a widget from the market
You've got questions, here's some answers!
Can't figure out how to make the battery percentage appear in 9-lock?
It's under Settings > Lockscreen Settings > Statusbar Settings
Want the battery icon, and not just the percentage?
Same deal as before, except you have to hide battery icon, and then un-hide it. Wait a moment.
I really miss my old transparent messaging app, can I have that back?
You can now! I've just released a few variations of transparent Gingerbread messaging!
How do I use my own ringtone, alarm, and notification mp3s?
Create a folder on your SD card called "media".
Inside of that create "audio".
Inside of that create:
"ringtones" for ringtones.
"alarms" for alarms.
"notifications" for notifications.
Ah, Swype.

Unfortunately, since the Froyo version that initially came on our phone, we've been employing the latest and greatest versions with better features. But all of them have still been betas, and apparently this particular one expired today. I do not know if, or how to modify it to avoid expiration. Nor do I currently know where to pickup the next available version. Instead, I recommend doing what I have just finished doing. Install the swype beta installer.
Here's how:
1. First, using a file explorer delete the following files:
- /system/app/Swype.apk
- /system/lib/libswypecorexxxxx.so [the x's stand in for the exact number]
2. Next, head here to download the installer.
3. The rest is pretty self explanatory.
You do have to sign up to be a tester if you're not already, I have been for some times. I assure you, it's a harmless process and won't flood your email account.
I wish I could make this easier, but for some time now, Swype has only been releasing beta versions and they will all expire at some point. If anyone has a newer working Swype I can use in the next version, I'll look into it.
As a bonus, if you follow my instructions, then your Swype personal dictionary will carry into the new Swype beta!
How Do I Use This ROM?
Regularly updated installation information available on the download page.
Random you mentioned in the other thread that Gtalk video works and it does but is that without being able to switch to front facing camera?
EDIT: I know I was supposed to thank you for this rom I assumed you knew I have been on EC05 Hawk. Also was I supposed to say "first"
Looks great RandomKing..
My time on the Epic 4g has passed but my wife still has hers and this is definitely a ROM I will be considering and trying out on her device since she's waiting for me to update her to GB and get off EC05...
Great work!
I was confused for a moment but then I realized that you gave EI22 its own thread. Haha!

This... Not tryina nic-pic but that standard GB batter indicator just isn't cutting it.. I guess my question would be if there is a theme in the theme section of the forums that would work with this rom. I know we are waiting on the lockscreen mod from maddoggin but is there something I can use temporarily?
Also, Randomking, I saw in the other thread that you said it was the TH2.0 Rom that had the sexy black keyboard... How would I go about pulling the keyboard from 2.0 and installing it in 3.0.5? Yes... I'm a newb at all this stuff but thanks to you all, i'm learning quite quickly!

I'm not fully acquainted with framework-res modifying, so I generally wait until I find a suiting one and then modify it in-line with my own requirements. So... soon.
As far as the keyboard, open the .zip file, and under /System/App you'll find Swype.apk. Just drag it into the matching spot of the other .zip. I recommend using 7zip.

I know you are updating the op, but a few things are confusing.
Does this have the aio hack for ei22?
Does this have any theme elements like battery mod?

It has the AIO Hotspot, Volume, CRT, and Overscroll Glow features, but no Lockscreen mod yet.
When I can put in everything I require, I will remove the WIP tag from the title and fully modify the OP, until then, the screenshots are slightly inaccurate. Working on it. Version 3.1 will be the first full version.
been running this rom for a few hours now with no problem. My 3g speeds are faster on this rom for some reason (im on cricket not sprint). thanks for all your hard work.

Ok... So dont mess with the theming just yet... gotcha...
Now with the keyboard. I located the TH2.0 zip on my harddrive... Opened it, found the Swype.apk and moved it to my desktop...
Is there a way for me to copy the Swype apk to my SD card and push it in using ES File Explorer or will I have to actually drag and drop it into the TH3.0.5 Zip and then reflash?
**edit**
Just tried to push it using EX File Explorer and got mad force closes when I disabled Go KB and enabled Swype... Dragged and dropped Swype apk into the system/app folder of TH3.0.2 and i'm about to reflash... *crosses fingers*
**edit**
Still no go... Flashed using Clockwork and upon the first boot I got a Swype FC. I guess i'll stick with Go Keyboard for now...
I had to use root explorer es wouldnt work for some reason. just copy the file to root system/app
you might try going into settings, applications, manage, all, swype ... clear data.
So it isn't trying to use data saved by the other apk.
what is the best way way to flash this, I currently using ThunderHawk 2.3.4
thanks

I ended up using Root Explorer because when I tried to paste it in using ES, it would paste but Swype wouldn't show up in my list of keyboards.
Can you confirm that the keyboard from TH2.0 is the sexy black one? Is that the one you moved over?

I didn't even think of that, but I also dropped the Swype apk from the 2.0 rom into the system/apps folder of 3.0.5 and then just reflashed the rom and still got FC's as soon as the phone booted up.
I llooved this rom on EC05.
i can't wait for updates :]
i'm getting alright battery life so far. 75% 6h 12m. can't wait to see what you do with it :]

TROUBLESHOOTING/BUG REPORTING/FAQ
Q - I flashed the ROM and now I have an issue, what should I do?
A - Don't freak out! Pull a logcat and paste it on to pastebin and provide me a link in the thread to it. Along with the logcat, please provide me with as much information as possible. Things that you would think could help me fix this issue.....i.e what version of the ROM you are on, what you flashed (mods, tweaks, etc.), what happened, what did you do prior to the bug/issue.
Q - How do I pull a logcat?
A - Check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726238
Or this one:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2274119
Q - Do I have to wipe before flashing??
A - YES, (unless otherwise noted) even if you're coming from a previous version of this ROM. By doing a FULL (system, data, cache, dalvik) wipe each time, it not only avoids any issues that come from not wiping BUT if you report an issue, I then know that is a legit problem and not because of lack of wiping.
Q - I see (Insert developer name) has fixed this or has added this feature, are you going to do the same?
A - NO! No disrespect to that developer but I have not and will not keep up with what other developers are doing.
1. Download ROM and GApps
2. Place ROM and GApps on SD
3. Wipe System, Data/Factory Reset, and Dalvik Cache (in advanced settings in recovery)
4. Flash ROM
5. Flash GApps
6. Reboot
7. Let ROM settle in, the boot takes a few minutes... Be patient, grab a sandwich.
A2SD: (DO NOT FLASH UNLESS YOU HAVE AN SD-EXT PARTITION)
http://d-h.st/kTT- thanks CRIME INC. and jmztaylor
A2SD INSTRUCTIONS: Thanks drob311 and Halrulez!!!!
1. Get a properly formatted sd-ext partition. (Do not move on until you have done this. This OP is already too crowded, search it if you don't know.) Dread's Modified CWM Recovery is also recommended.
2. Reboot into recovery
3. Wipe dalvik cache
3. Go into Mounts & Formats
4. Cache should already be mounted... make sure. Then mount data and system also. sd-ext should also be mounted already.
5. Flash DarkTremor's a2sd zip (above)
6. Reboot
7. Check to make sure it worked (go into Titanium Backup and if there is an a2sd partition at the bottom it worked)
8. If not, go into terminal
9. Type-> su -> hit enter->hit "allow" when SuperUser prompts you
10. Type-> a2sd reinstall-> hit enter
11. Wait until it reboots. If this doesn't work, start over at step 1 and do it again the right way.

BATTERY LIFE DEPENDS ON THE USER USING THE TOOLS PROVIDED IN THIS ROM (and below in the Extras section). IT'S NOT GOING TO DO EVERYTHING FOR YOU. SCREEN ON TIME AND A VARIETY OF OTHER FACTORS ALSO NEED TO BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION AS WELL. IN THE END IT IS UP TO THE USER TO MAXIMIZE BATTERY LIFE, NOT THE ROM. IF YOU ARE HAVING SEVERE BATTERY DRAIN, SEARCH "WAKE LOCKS"... Better Battery Stats included in this ROM is a good tool for figuring out the cause of wake locks.

PLEASE be respectful and REMEMBER that this is FREE! I do NOT work for you! I have NOT and WILL NOT ask for donations for any of this! If you wish to donate, that's on you and that's just that.... a donation! YOU WILL NOT get an early copy of ANY ROM and I will not post your name/username anywhere....just not my style! Also please don't ask for ETA's or expect updates based on other things i.e. someone fixed this or whatever the case may be! I do this when I have the free time. To be honest, I'm not really an AOSP guy. The appearance of the ICS/JB look to me has been kind of childish by my own personal standards in comparison with Froyo/GB, it just hasn't been my cup of tea (Sense 4.0+ would spark it up some).
This ROM is the 1st time I've felt potential is present on an AOSP ICS/JB ROM, it has enough elegance to it to not look so kiddie.
Wish there was a better music player/widget, that Noozy one seems like it could do the trick but it FC's, maybe it requires a lib?
Great Job, definitely will be paying attention to this project if you decide to do more with it, it may finally pull me away from using Sense 3.5 ROM's as daily drivers, we shall see.

Yes, Noozy requires a lib... search "AC!D Audio" and you'll find the flashable zip. I can't do much more with it till we have a stable 4.2.2, which may be soon.
I'll most likely be doing a Sense 5 themed Sense ROM next, but that all depends on my time as this is my secondary device.
Maybe I'll *try* to port v3 of this ROM, it's based on Baked Black Bean. This is a port of v1 (with parts from v2 and v3) of my SGS2 ROM.
Wouldn't it be ideal before releasing a custom rom to make sure all the apk's are functional? Don't get me wrong like I said I like this 1, seems like theres quite a few bugs though. If I go to flashing libs etc to get things debugged don't it kind of become my project? I'm just saying..maybe an Alpha title would be proper for this specific release?

Um sure... my Shift isn't reading my sd in recovery, I still haven't flashed it. Nobody said anything about anything not working in testing so I released it as is. So it's a blind port.
Ahh okay, all good, I ran it for a day or so, initial feel about it obviously was good at 1st look. I started to open apps and i would say at least 3 of them FC'ed, Noozy being 1 I can recall and the browsers real laggy I couldnt browse without long load delays, then the phone became a little too unresponsive over up time. I reflashed but couldn't shake the lag. I didn't have much time to toy around with the kernel settings so might be an issue there on my end.

Are the problems related to the exposed framework? I saw a video about it on XDA TV but haven't figured it out yet.

You just go into Xposed Installer and hit install, then you reboot and go back in and enable the modules.
