[Q] Thunderbolt Sluggish, laggy, and I got it to reset during tether

Just got my thunderbolt a few days ago. I haven't had the chance to root just yet. Too many days at work.
I had a bad problem with resetting on my EVO... I'd like to make sure this doesn't turn into round 2.
Its been sluggish on and off all day. Lagging through my texts messages while I am tethered to my laptop on LTE. It reset on me eariler while I was tethered. Did I overheat this thing?
Any input? Or where to look/start troubleshooting I would greatly appreciate it.

Sounds weird. I haven't had any problems with mine.
Maybe a defective device? I have no idea.

Hmm another odd thing it does, is during a phone call the top part of the screen around the status bar kind of gets a greenish tint during the phone call if the person I am talking to doesn't have a picture. Is that the updated sense doing that? My Evo never did it. I'm gonna try and stress it again... I couldn't get it to swype properly, it would end the word before the I finished swyping it.
I hope I don't have a defective device

The green tint is normal

Yeah, the green tint is normal, but I don't know about the rest.
Maybe you might wanna take a trip to Verizon and ask them.

Might have to. Kinda wish I would have bought instore now. I'd imagine that would make potential swapping much easier!

This phone is awesome. I personally dont like waiting for devs to finish ROm/Kernals so i will be trying to bulid my own. Verizon / HTC have so many bloated items in this phone its unreal. Just debloating the phone makes it run faster via quadrant, overclocking it to around 1.4 to 1.5 is the most economical and i beleive most are able to do it with the required stock voltage (minues a little) and i get about 2200 on my 1.4ghz Senseless Virus ROM. Anyhow. The only thingthat gets to me is the lack of installed apps. Otherwise its freaking fast.

me and 9 other co-workers all got the thunderbolt the day it came out. two of us had horrific battery life and some lagging issues as well. i just wiped data and cache and seemed to fix it right up. you can give that a go or just root it and play around with all the kernels!!!!!!!! lol i can't go more than a few hours without flashing a new kernel...so addicting!!!!

Even before I rooted and debloated mine I never had even the slightest lag. I would recommend trying to get it exchanged. It shouldn't lag at all unless you have some kind of huge app constantly sucking CPU and RAM in the background.

Yea, I am getting force closes in the stock default text message app. Only apps I have installed are dolphin browser mini, swype, tweetdeck.
While in my 4g area yesterday during tether I had a few periods where the 4g would connect on and off for a few minutes before it solidified itself..
Do I have a dud? Or should I root it and see if these problems continue? Since I bought it from Letstalk.com, Would they even let me exchange it at a Verizon store?

Sounds like a dud. Just take a trip to Verizon and see what try can do.

G2X just got *****

It's been 2 weeks sense I got the phone and I'm not counting the screen bleed, dead pixel, random revolts. Today all of the sadden the phone is in my pocket an I felt its very hot I look at the phone ant its stock and looping the LG logo and turning off and turning on and no matter what I did its still the same looping it got so hot it was burning my hands do I took the battery off and and it is going back to T-Mobile and I know u guys want to defend your phones noo its good its perfect butt you'll see that this phones are manufacturing defect and I almost sold my Nexus s.

thanks for sharing the battery experience. I don't know why people are getting on you for posting this. I mean, this is a forum for g2x, right? this guy has a problem with his g2x and he's sharing the experience. nothing wrong with that. it seems like some people are just fanboys for the phone. if you don't like seeing complaint posts and criticism about your phone, then why are in a forum?

Thanx C19932 I loved the phone too its the fastest but it doesn't mean it has to have so many problems. I tough about exchanging but I read here all the people exchanged still have problems, and I paid full price for it that's how I like the phones

It's, I think, the later responses that pretty much assume everybody will have these problems and/or are ignoring them altogether that are getting to some posters.

I had to go to the store for an exchange as well. You're not the only one experiencing problems, and people can't act like you are.

I got a G2X day it came out and I love it. No issues. I had a Vibrant and I would never buy a Samsung product again. For everyone waiting for the next Samsung phone just make sure you love whatever OS it comes with because no matter what Google releases after you will never get it.

Dude i know your were your coming from but you have to relize that just because YOUR G2X was a complete dud doesnt mean all G2X are like that.and dont say im just defending the G2X because i DON'T have it, its just the way it is they're are always going to be bad apples in the bunch especially during the first batch... dont believe me go to other phones sections.. but yeah man that does suck hope you get your money back or atleast a replacement...

You got a bad one just like I had 3 of them until I found a good one. There is problems with this phone just like every other one. I had to exchange my Vibrant 4 times just to get a working GPS and had to exchange my N1 3 times for various reasons. I wouldn't say I'm rich but I have enough money to buy any phone I want and I chose to buy this one for the time being. I chose it for a couple of reasons. The DEV support its going to receive and its the quickest phone on the market. I have no doubt in my mind that I am going to buy the SGII if it gets to Tmobile but I can tell you right now, once I get rid of this phone, I wont make a thread crying about it. I am no fanboy for any device and I am not loyal to any particular manufacturer so I could give a **** less what you say about the G2X just as long as you use English the next time you start ranting.
By the way, my G2X has no problems but my first 3 did. This is the best Android device I have ever used.

mine had screen bleed so tmobile gave me a new one , this new one has less screen bleed , this new one had the same problem that youre describing , just turn off the phone by removing the battery , put it in again , hold down the vol down button then hold down the power button at the same time , it should enter factory reset mode , there it should boot again normally , been working fine so far.
its a buggy phone, but its the software fault not the hardware, gingerbread should fix the problem , i would like it to have honeycomb instead of gingerbread though.

I'm on my second G2X but since rooting and freezing the T-mobile junk this is by far the best phone I've ever had. Before this I was a hardcore Nokia user.
From what I've read the first batch of phones was bad but it would seen that these are getting fixed. Case in point is the screen bleed, my first phone was awful but this one has none and I know of 3 others who have no bleed either.

I have the issue where the touchscreen will stop responding at random times. Is that your issue? It is very annoying I got my phone at walmart 3 weeks ago.

This is the only issue I have:
I started seeing the issue with using the ring to unlock my Sensation a couple of days ago.
I found that if I wait about 2 or 3 seconds after pressing the power button to come out of stby, using the ring to unlock works fine.
This is on the TMO US with the AUO screen.

It's odd 4 days into having my sensation I was experiencing issues mostly on the lock screen.. they have somehow seemed to correct itself. I'm thinking an app, or setting or something is causing it. I've changed so many settings and added/removed apps the past few days it could have been anything. But oddly I havent had any issues with it for like 3 or 4 days now

i do not have the TOUCH SCREEN ISSUE

On my first set of sensations, my wifes phone had touch screen issues from day one and mine was fine for the first week then started all of a sudden. Now on the second set, both phones are pretty much useless when plugged in to charge. Both phones purchased here in Tucson. Same store, different build dates.

I have issue with my device bought from expansys USA and also with another one from Expansys, two more from an ebayer (SEA version).
The issue was with all three which i have sold and the one iam using now..
One odd thing i noticed. When you have difficulty in unlocking while the device is locked (Happens) mostly when the device is not in your hands, try touching the phone's body and unlock. It works.
Seems strange.

Never had any touchscreen issues with my Sensation. I did have issues with my G2x....but a factory reset cleared that up if I recall.
Does it still do it after a factory reset, fresh, with NO 3rd party apps installed?
If so, ya got a faulty device.

Well, I'm coming from the G2x, so I know from speed - but I have NO touchscreen issues.

Thats a load of bollocks. I don't have any touchscreen issues, and I came from the g2x, which is a speed demon.
In fact I have virtually zero issues with the sensation.

Not sure how to vote. I have no issues swiping fast however I can never get it into that carousel mode where the home screen whirls around real fast.

Lock screen....the lock will not move to unlock all the time...and it will not let me click over to answer a different call....

How about we try to stay away from the generalizations.... I DO NOT have any touchscreen issues, and I came from a G2X...and it doesn't get any faster than a G2X.

Same here, i had this issue on days 5 and 6, then it just disappeared. I didn't change any settings and i didn't install/uninstall any apps (that i could remember). Only thing that changed, i drove to summer home on day 5 and it was very high humidity in house when i arrived...
Poll needs another option: Yes, but it fixed itself.

I had this problem with my launch-day evo 4g. If you had it on a table where the phone wasnt grounded, the bottom half of the screen would not respond. This was really evident with a drawing app. I dont have time to experiment with my pone today but maybe someone else can try that.

Here is a video about that. Post here if you unlock the phone only you hold the ring from its left side like on the video.

Actually i had problems with 2 devices i bought from a ebay seller which are singapore versions (SEA) and 2 from Expansys USA. Out of those one from expansys is what iam using now. I have sold the other three.
May be the problem is not for all devices then like what i thought with my experience. May be some batches???

....oh boy......here we go again.....the same thing was said about the nexus one....people constantly whined about it having a "grounding issue"...then an update was released and the "issue" people had with "grounding" was gone......
There is no "grounding issue" with the phone. Simple as that.

G2x with no issues

I bought my g2x on april 20th released date... And yes i had problems not rebooting or freezes just when i'm not using the phone and it goes to sleep.. It would not come back on unless i take off the battery and power on... Well the next day i call tmobile and wanted a replacement they told me to go to any tmobile store for the exchange
and it was out of stuck everywhere.. So finally found a store the had one... I replaced my phone and this g2x the i have had ever since the 21th of april has not issues no reboots no freezing no stay on sleep mode but still have the screen bleed...
And i tell yall the keep talking bad about the phone you may be out of luck on having one the is bad...
But im loving my g2x ever since i got it... And i flash roms and kernals all the time...
This phone sure is fast as advertise

I followed the crowd to the sensation especially hearing about everyone having g2x issues. I loved the sensation. I think just cause it was new. Well I went through 3 sensations and have the 4th on the way. Well I use wifi daily, and although some have good wifi as I've seen proof, over 50% of users polled that owned a sensation have wifi issues. Mine would completely die just 10 feet away turned away from the router..
So I traded my sensation on Craigslist for a g2x and 75 bucks. The g2x has absolutely no screen bleed, I can show proof, and it was preloaded with cm7. It hasn't rebooted once in 4 days now and being used I would like to think if it would I would have experienced it by now...
So all I'm all 4 g2xs and they rocked, only one had minor reboots, but hell my vibrant and other phones reboot periodically also..
I love my g2x. No more headaches with no root on the sensation ..

I'm sending Rasheed Wallace and Greg Oden after you...I have owned 3 G2x and 2 Sensations (One was returned because I bought another cheaper off CL) All of My G2x are terrible. I haven't had one issue with my Sensation. It works perfectly well out of the box!! In all honesty my MT4G running CM7 out performs my G2x running CM7.....but I guess what ever makes you happy

My MT4G does EVERYTHING that I ask it to..... My G2x does not. Try entering an address in the navigation app when you are in a hurry and see how long it takes to start speaking turn by turn directions on the G2x...It's cool to defend your device because you paid for it and all, but I paid full off contract price for every phone I have owned and the G2x is by far my biggest disappointment...

Lol my wife still has the mytouch 4g and I just sold mine and yea it was fast but sitting here playing with my g2x and her mytouch 4g.....and my g2x blows it away. My g2x has been problem free tho just a little screen bleed and I mean a very little. And guess what I can two ****s. G2x reigns supreme, yea it had its little problems with rebooting and sod. And yea some people had legit problems but dude this phone is the **** and is still faster and better then phones out today....****in g2x is badass

That's good to hear. I finally got tired of my Vibrant as I've been having a few issues with that as of late, and I ordered a G2x off of the t-mobile site last week, just waiting for mine to arrive at my door tomorrow. Looking around, issues are definitely prevalent so your post gives me a bit of hope at least that I didn't buy a Vibrant 2. Guess I'll find out myself soon

Dude u will be happy... as long as u don't have any major problems ull be alrite. Might have a lil. Screen bleed but they all have it.. who cares u font ever ever see it maybe a tiny bit on start-up. But hey if its bad take it back ..but yea bro its definitely a sweet phone its so fast, NY wifi and internet are great I don't have no screen protector on because with this gorilla glass I don't get any scratches and the screen is beautiful, the colors and contrast are nice looking. Not one scratch. And of course when I go out I throw my case on it. But be careful if u buy a case my body glove scratched the sides of my bezel. So be careful. Oh and the camera got best out of smartphones today, well they tested 45 other smartphones u can find that. Article in electronista ......simply put this g2x is beast.....sorry for the typos I'm on my phone

Yes sir and fauxs latest kernel. The g2x is really faster bro only thing I will give her mytouch is it locks on GPS a little quicker. But did u hear me? A little quicker

That's might as well very possible.
As I read Tmobile HD2 forums, there's tons of complaints, too.
But my HD2 works fine with WM6.5 and Android (SD/NAND).
P.S. Of course until few days ago the digitizer died.

Nothings perfect buddy lol but definitely don't have all the problems people talk about. My g2x runs very nice especially running cm, the synergy theme and one of morfics special kernels that I'm currently testing. This thing is a monster

We are few it seems, my G2x is flawless, no bleed, no freezes, no wi fi issue nor reboots...maybe I got the last batch...

I've got a good g2x also. Mine was having glitchy problems when I first got it as well. But I never had it stock. I paid the guy at the store to root it and he installed the leaked gb rom before I ever had it in my hands. There must have been something wrong with the flash, because once I learned how to do it on my own, I started all over. Flashed the original unrooted rom, then flashed cwm with nvflash and began having fun. Yes, I also have the minor screen bleed up in the top left and right corners that appears only one a completely black background.

I've had my g2x since day one gave my wife my mt4g and never looked back or had a problem .....u usually change phones when new ones come out so I went to see tbr sensation to see if I wanted to get it but wasn't really impress I like my g2x better and its way faster ......ill wait for next phone to come out but for now I think this phone was the best android phone I've ever had and I've had alot of them starting from g1 ......well the nexus one was bad ass in it's time ......oh wait I did have a freeze but it was cuz if the Trinity kernel when it first came out ....now I'm on the newest eaglesblood and on fleux latest kernel and my phone is freaking fast ......GPS is good also ......my boy just bought his evo 3d and he wants his phone to b as fast as mines lol.......

I have the canadian release from Wind and read these threads of issues and shake my head, can't understand why you have so many bad devices. Mine is rock solid man, very minimal screen bleed, no reboots, it gets a little warm while charging but no worse then my nexus s did. I love this device my only gripe is I wish it had more ram.

Oh and the camera got best out of smartphones today, well they tested 45 other smartphones u can find that. In the week I've had the phone so far, I've been very happy with it. I seemed to have a pretty smooth device; no restarts, and only a slight screen bleed which wasn't visible enough to annoy me. However that experience changed yesterday when I decided to try out the HDMI output and connected it to the TV. I played Samurai II for a bit then went off to watch a couple of Youtube videos. About 1/4 the way through a video, a message displayed about a sensor detecting the phone was too hot and the device needs to shut down. Checked it out and it was indeed cooking, and reeked like fried electronics. I had no sign of heat on the device when playing the game so I was quite surprised. My apartment is quite cool too due to my roommates love for air conditioning. I pulled the battery and left it cool off for a couple of hours; now when I use it, if I'm on the phone for about 10 minutes, or if I play a game or something on it the phone will start to overheat and the battery drains very quickly. Doing a search on Google, I found similar reports of the problem with people using a HDMI cable from monoprice, which was where I got the cable from as well, so I'm going to bet that this probably isn't a coincidence.
I gave T-Mobile a call and am going to be getting a replacement, I think I'm just going to leave the HDMI port alone on that one. Other than that, I loved the phone quite a lot

YOu know, no one with a good G2x can say this. Has to come from someone with a bad G2x. If one of us lucky ones say this, we're insensitive. But we're not really. I wonder every day how I got a good one..and so many people got a bad one.
I said in a previous thread, I thought there were far more good ones than bad ones. But that caused a ruckus. After all, you come to a site where they talk about problems, you mostly talk to people with problems. No one ever calls support to say...Good Job, no problems here...thought you should know. Having worked in support for 20 yrs, I can tell you every statement from someone saying....CS told me this....should remember, its a very one sided point of view. Imagine sitting there, taking hundreds of calls a day, all of them complaints. With every new phone that comes out, there's the same complaints, but newer phones. Every release sucks, because you work your butt off to answer problems with new phones.
I remember 1 guy, called support over 600 times about the same or similar problems...in 1 month. Our stats were horrible, until we looked at unique users...then the issue wasn't so bad. This guy called so many times, he recognized voices and names associated....it was very funny.
Very 1 sided point of view.

Should I give up my sensation?

my first sensation decided to troll me and wouldn't turn on whatsoever . stupid people at tmobile told me that it needed to charge and I was like
" no I just rely on the power of love" I.had to bring it in to prove to them that I fully charged it and it still didn't turn on.
I got my replacement yesterday and I am still disappointed. The phone reboots itself at least once a day. Sometimes the touch screen just doesn't work until I pull the battery. They're too many deathgrips . And I already have two dead pixels .
ive tried everything on the forums and this still happens. Should I just sell this thing and get the MT4G Slide?

Besides the switching off and the dead pixels, i think the problems can be ironed out with a nice new rom, I don't want to tell you to get rid of it, then a whole host of great rom's come out and it's the next biggest thing!
Because then you will be pissed, but i've noticed a few issues myself.
Icon's change to generic after a reboot (not all just some) - remove and replace.
Buttons become unresponsive - swipe screen and press a button on a dif page.
Reboot for no reason - i have no idea why this happens ?
Phone lags, slower than DHD running same rom - wait for the roms to come in.
There are a few other problems but these are the ones which annoy the hell out of me, i'd speak to the people you got the phone off and make sure you get a working one this time, complain until your blue in the face and you will normally get what you want, get them to test out the issues which have occured for other people as well as the ones which you have experienced.

First and last one, perfect except the lag thing (data lagged too), Asian ROM, bought in Austria.
Don't give up, give it another try, I think the reboot thing happens on branded devices? Mine is unbranded and Sense rebooted on me twice, not the whole phone, and my touchscreen doesn't have any issue.

Honesty, I've haven't seen any performance issues other than what most people mention like death grip,horrible battery and dust under screen. I'm still lukewarm about keeping it. I love the phone but the issues above shouldn't be on this type of phone. Then you add in your issues then it makes it even worse.

It's definitely not all sensations. My 3rd one has no issues. No dust, dead pixels, unresponsive screens, ect.

Screw waiting for a rom to see if the problem "might" go away, return it and get another.

Ugh, sounds like the G2x. I have had 0 "real" issues with my sensation. No lag, no touch screen issues, no dust issues. I HAVE seen the death grip for wifi, and have seen dips in wifi signal just turning it to landscape. No biggies there, don't hold my phone that way, and the signal comes right back up.
I've seen some squiggly line issues on widgets that appear to be a resolution issue. Easy fix when it happens.
I did have about 3 odd reboots over about 2 days, again seemingly linked to landscape mode switching. A factory reset fixed those. Oddly, as soon as I did that factory reset was when I had the very first squiggly line issue. Eh. *shrug*
In all, it's fast and wonderful and I love it
Oh, and my only other real complaint, low volume was fixed quite nicely by the app Volume+
If its not working properly, send it back. I went through 4 G2x's cause of random reboots and BlackSOD while charging. When they stopped wanting to replace em and wanting me to wait til "summer" for an update, I made em send me a Sensation. Sadly, not free, BUT a full upgrade I was not due for. I sold the last G2x for more than the upgrade cost me so I made a little on the deal.

I would just go get another one. I wonder why so many people are having randomly rebooting phones?

I hear you man, my first 2 sensation 4g (tmobile USA) were so messed up, the ring to unlock will not respond, the phone was so laggy, when I wanted to swipe the home screen to a different page it would open an app instead, the diaper was not responsive, phone was getting warm and stuff like that. I'm now on my 3rd sensation and so far so good. It's been 3 weeks now as oppose to 1 week for each of my first two sensation. I haven't had any issues with my current sensation, although it lags a little bif from time to time when I swipe the home screen but hopefully HTC will fix it. I myself am an HTC fan, but I think I'll get the Samsung Hercules when it comes out. As much as I like my sensation, it's not as fast I thought it would be. It doesn't feel dual core speedy to me. Don't get me wrong it's definitely fast, but then again when you compare it to the G2x and the SGS2 ( sorry to compare but they're all dual core top phone so it's inevitable to compare) it's falling behind in terms of pure speed.
