LG says officially that all LG top models are going to be updated to ICS even the O2X. And as soon Google release the Android source for ICS, LG would already talk about dates when update is coming. That's pretty good news, they maybe started to listen to their own costumers. What do you guys think about the information? Can you change your mind about LG after all?

I won't be holding my breathe. I would like to be optimistic about this but with LG's track record, I find it hard to swallow. If anything, we will see ICS on the 3D in 5 months. Thanks for your rom by the way ThiaiZ.

no, mine's still rebooting 3 times an hour when not plugged in and they are no closer to solving it. I'm selling mine to a work colleague and never buying LG again. the 3D will be my first and last LG phone
mmace take out the battery and THOUGHLY clean the contacts on both the battery and the phone. I suspect you have a problem with the connections.

This are great news. LG at last hear its customers. I have faith in Optimus 3D hardware. Its hardware is amazing and with promised ICS support I have wildest performance expectations .This LG optimus 3D I just bought will last a very long time
LG PR
Its fair enough saying that they will release it theyve been saying that about GB and thats like two year old, But does wonders for their PR image. Can see it now 2013 "sorry we havent released ice cream sandwidch but we are currently extensivly testing this so to limit any bugs that maybe present. Thankyou for your patience a release will be proberly tested and in q2 2016"
They must have been pretty impressed with the negative reaction to their facebook announcement about the 2.3 release.
They have deleted over 150 comments so far, most expressing extreme dissatisfaction with their customer and community support.
It sound a good news, let hope so. But LG always lies in 2.3 ....
it's not just the case of LG, SE has the same issue with the X10.
Sadly ppl think that as soon as google releases a new android version we have/going to get it.
it's logic that it will take a bit to get it, it has to go through several stages during the development, let hope for the best and trust LG

Unless I misread it the page says other high end models, not flagship ones and definitely does not say all either. Given the new O3D apparently comes out next year ours won't be a flagship model anyway so they are unlikely to waste time or money developing ICS for our phone when it will be a few years old and outdated by then.

No they are contractually bound to give the o3d and the lg thrill gb and ics updates... google requires manufacturers to provide any os updates with in 18 months of a devices launch... so if a new os comes out by march 2013 for us thrill owners lg will have to give us that as well... for o3d owners... something like january 2013
Actually come to think of it... that may just be an at&t thing

Agree with you, but, but, but. High end phones from LG? Hmmm, O2X, O Black + O3D(most expensive and high ended of the 3). If they are not talking about O3D what phone are they talking about? Correct me if I am wrong, please.

Aside from the 3D aspect O3D is not their highest end or even most powerful phone and given that they are planning its successor for next year I just don't think they will give us ICS.
As regards contractual obligations I dont think they have any as my previous lg phone never got gingerbread and quite a few of them still don't. Isn't android free for manufacturers? If so not sure how they could be tied into future obligatory updates but I don't know for sure their not.

LG firmly denies the rumors that claim LG will not be providing the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS update for the LG Optimus 2X. These rumors are NOT true. LG is currently in the process of planning the ICS OS update for the LG Optimus 2X as well as other LG high-end smartphones. Detailed information on the ICS OS update schedule for specific models will be announced, once the ICS OS is publicly released by Google. Please stay tuned for more updates from LG

You are so right. XDA started out as a forum for developers. While regular users are welcomed and people try to help them, I have never seen so much whining, complaing and *****ing then I have seen on the G2X forums. It seems that there are a bunch of noobs or just plain old jerks that don't realize these are very small, very powerful computers that can happen to make a phone call as a feature, and there are inevitability some bugs; just as every computer and software program in the world have some bugs. I had another phone that suffered from reboots and SODs but nobody ever whined and complained about it. They just supported the few devs who were trying to alleviate the problems.
Now on another note. The G2X is a 2X device. G2X is just T-Mobile's name for their version of the phone. If LG announced that the 2X will get ICS, I would bet money and give odds that we will see our ICS update before other 2X variants see theirs. This week the first GB rom for the O2X finally was released by LG. It is for the Italian version and is available on the LG Updater. Once they get all the different versions out there updated to GB, then we can wait about another six months at least to see ICS start rolling out.
Yes.. that's exactly what I was gonna tell them o2x gb update just rolled out, we g2x owners have had it for what 2 months.. dude there is a lot of negativity on these forums.. I just joined about 3 weeks ago.. and I've been reading almost everything is negative..

It's been over three months now since GB was released for the G2X. It actually made the phone much better. There is no reason for people to complain any more, IMO.
How many threads are we gonna open about if/when we are getting ics?
I'm not the only one that can't stand the whining
Wow! I'm not the only person that can't stand the whining and *****ing. I have been a registered member almost a year. Started here on my metro pcs ascend. You want to see problems, try one of those. The ascend was my first Android and my first computer of any kind. In less than a year I learned what I needed to. I have never seen such a negative, incompetent group of axxholes in my life. I have 2 g2x's and I still don't know what screen bleed is. Someone Else said what I've been saying, our device is too powerful for its own good, I can handle a reboot here and there. I change roms daily anyway. Well, I needed to get that off my shoulders. These phones should have come with a qualification exam, you don't pass, you don't buy. I love XDA and all they do and have done. I apologize for my noob, axxhole colleagues, may they not ruin it for the rest of us. I am a writer for ACS if you find my ramblings your kind of read. artifintel / [email protected]

it is possible, that is the day the nexus prime will be released in the UK.
Hopefully it comes true. The leak was from the CEO of Notion Ink, who also let slip the Gingerbread release date over a year ago...so there could be some credibility to the leak. I for one can't wait until my NegriElectronics Galaxy Nexus arrives...just a couple days...
After going through a pile of phones in the last year I'm ecstatic for the new Nexus. None of the dual core phones I've owned were any better than the others (well mostly, IMO) and GalNex just epitomizes the current generation of phone. As non-Tegra3 quad cores are still a long ways off (and after Tegra2, I have absolutely no desire for a mobile Nvidia product), this should do nicely for a year or more.

I think Tegra 3's will start rolling out Q1-Q2 worldwide but nothing subsidized in the US till this time next year or early 2013. By then we'll also start seeing some other quad-core chips to compete. I don't see the need to waste your money on any phone right now if you own a G2x.

I've actually gone through a couple phones since getting my G2x. I still have it but find myself using the Sensation more. Since selling my NexusS to get the G2x, I've found myself constantly missing the Google updates and just Nexus'ness. My G2x has been an ok experience, but I have no great attachment to it. I dont really game so the advantages of Tegra are kinda nullified in comparison to other SoC's. The form factor is awesome, but mine has too many issues. I'm unsatisfied with the build quality and performance of the Sensation. The T-mobile line is my personal line, and selling both the G2x and Sensation pays for an unsubsidized Galaxy Nexus. After using a qHD phone extensively, I really miss the higher resolution screen when using other phones. I dont need more than two phones, and honestly the Galaxy Nexus dots every 'i' and crosses every 't' in my ideal phone spec sheet/experience. If the combo of Galaxy Nexus + ICS is as good as I think it will be, then not a waste of money to me at all. But everyone's different.
I'm so pumped, i've been lurking the g2x forums for a while now waiting for some news on ics and i've finally gotten the new news! However I want to warn everyone now, I am a NOOB!

1. CM9 will be out before then
2. It might possibly be an actual upgrade not just a "here you go have fun and stop complaining" like GB was for us.

Optimus line I believe almost all Cell companies LG, Samsung, HTC, they care more about their Euro versions more when it comes to advertisement. I'm about 90% sure we will get it and it is not the orphan child, cause we got GB (even if it was a poop build) before Optimus 2X did.

No. Carriers make money by keeping subscribers. Selling phones at subsided prices doesn't make them any money.
Keeping existing customers is also much cheaper than getting new ones.
I am very dissapointed...wish i had the money to get a Nexus Galaxy...its very unfair that our devices will only get the upgrade near the end of its life....there will be no point updating to ICS in 2/3rd quarter of the year...everyone would have either upgraded to something with ICS...or moved to a device that will have ICS much sooner.
LG you suck, and you need to start focusing on making tvs or washing machines...or what ever the hell else you do...stop making cell phones..you suck at it.

Link please. Despite what PhoneNews.com and some here are saying, 2x does NOT equal g2x. The g2x actually had gingerbread before the 2x and roms are NOT compatible between the 2. Unless LG themselves say specifically G2X then there is no guarantee of an update.

In Canada the P999 and P990 go under the same name, the Optimus 2X. The only one with a license to call it the G2X is T-Mobile because they wanted to continue their G line. I assume that LG wants to go by the name it was originally intended to use. It'd be much clearer if they just used model numbers.

See, I'm not too upset with LG. Admittedly, the G2x isn't the best phone. I won't be the fanboy to indefinitely and baselessly defend LG, NVidia, or their products. But I think a lot of the bad rep the the three have gotten is a little picky. My phone is blazing fast, even faster than my old Sensation, has absolutely superior build quality, screen is great, dev community is pretty decent, etc. I understand people dislike NVidia and LG for their support and that's totally understandable. I've been a huge fan of my G2x; I've had ZERO issues since I bought it. No screen bleed, nothing.
You can count me in on this X3. I own a number of LG products. Hell, I even swapped my flat screen when a newer model came out. LG always improves upon their products, no matter how ****ty the first model. I've been more than content with my G2x and I'll trust LG on their next device. If the dev community suffers because of their negligence, however, it'll be on to the GN.

I just can't believe how easy it was for them to give us a poop update to 2.3 instead of just revamping and fixing the little issues that 2.2 had (mainly data issues for me) I didn't have many issues either and my phone is incredibely dast, faster then my friends Amaze 4G, not overclocked. I want to root his phone and put AOSP on it, he isn't down lol. I just like the metal feel of most HTC phones, and the fact that they put out minor patches and seem to care about their phones that they put out. The G2X needs multiple little patches that has been ignored, LG states over and over that our phone 2X series line will be updated, I want stability over all not major upgrades. the whole time they working (5-7 months on ICS they could put out little patches for 2.3.... #HUGERANT lol
Laughing My Arse Off! They said they learned from their mistakes!
I learned from my mistake!
NVIDIA NEVER AGAIN!
I wouldn't buy an lg gun to shoot myself with. Jk this might be worth a try as a second phone.

I feel the same, I was on the fence on the G2X, I had zero consumer confidence in LG at that time, I was also pressured when the phone was released as my wife was waiting for my MT3GS, I really wanted to wait for the sensation, waiting now for the next good HTC phone to release or possible Nexus if it comes to Tmo

What's wrong with a quad core clocked @ 1.2GHz? You do realize how fast that is, right?
So the problems double.

Why believe them? They would do more for their crappy reputation if they just updated their existing dual core phones now to ICS. The LG X3 is just another scam. Promises, promises, promises, all broken. No more confidence in LG which sucks big time. BTW, Americans and Canadians gave their lives to prevent the Communists from taking over South Korea so that capitalism flourishes in S. Korea so that companies such as LG can exist. LG is a despicable company dishonouring the sacrifices of Americans and Canadians and the virtually free trade which S. Korea enjoys accessing the North American market which it doesn't appreciate. I have an uncle who volunteered for the U.S. army during the Korea conflict and he says that the sacrifice wasn't and isn't worth it because S. Korea plays the trade game one way, their way only, because they don't allow the same access to their market as North America does. Shame on LG for abusing us.
Now I for one would say LG dropped the ball on the g2x however look back to Samsung's and HTC's first phones. All of these companies dropped the ball on there phones. Hopefully LG will understand the higher demand for support for there higher end phones. This was there first attempt in this higher end android market. They failed but so did HTC and Samsung.

Looks like the LG x3 will come to the US as the T-Mobile G4x, much like the LG x2 came over as the T-Mobile G2x. Now, I'm excited about the phone, but am extremely cautious with my expectations. The G2x was a calamity and if it wasn't
for XDA I would have dumped T-Mobile. Today, this is the best phone ever (thanks to Hell's ICS rom) I consistently out perform my friends Galaxy SII's and Galaxy Nexus' (Granted I'm OC'd to 1.4Ghz vs their stock, but hey, that's why I'm on XDA and they are just sheeple phone buyers).
I remember preliminary reviews on the G2x giving it glowing reviews, but when it got to the consumers hands, it was a disaster. I don't think the people who did the reviews know exactly what the definition of review means. When I saw video reviews, the phone had no customer Icons or apps and it looked like someone played with it for about an hour than made a review of it, which would explain the glowing reviews the G2x got from 99% of the "professional" review sites out there.
Me, I want the G4x, I thrive to have a phone with the power of my Transformer Prime, but not with the headaches the G2x started with. I'll read a real reviews posted on XDA or other android forums for 2 months after launch before taking the leap. And hey, with ICS running so fantastically on the G2x, I could wait for T-mo to give a G4x for free on contract renewal.
Just wondering how other G2x owners feel about the G4x? I was considering going with the HTC Tegra 3 phone (The Sensation is getting ICS officially, while LG leaves the G2x dead in the water, thank goodness for community support), due to LG's terrible support of the G2x. Another consideration was to wait for the Krait based phones. Anand did a write up on the architecture and it looks like that Dual-Core can give the Quad-Core Tegra 3 a run for its money. Hey, at least this comes with the latest Android OS, not one 2 versions old (I still can't believe the G2x shipped with Froyo....shudder....)
Thanks for reading, have an excellent day!!!
http://androidandme.com/2012/02/sma...-smartphone-in-the-us-with-stock-android-4-0/
this might be a dumb question, but whatever happened to the g3 or whatever? did they just skip over that product line? whatever happened to consistency?
I'm not really excited for it. Tegra chips have always been overrated IMO. The Snapdragon Krait processors are already said to perform better on lower levels of energy than the Tegra 3. Even the upcoming dual core Ti-OMAP's and Exynos' are said to perform better than the quad core Tegra.
Plus it's going to be closed source again so devs will have their problems.
So to me, good phone, well built, nice hardware and software, but the closed source is what will make me look elsewhere.
Phone looks decent. At this point in time phone hardware is to the point where pretty much any high end phone will get the job done just as good or slightly (not noticably in real world use) better than its competitors. It will come down phone design, screen size, and software support for me. I'm not going count LG out as this was my first LG phone. The Vibrant was my first Android phone and while Samsung was horrible with support for that phone they seem to have learned from it and are making an effort to do better. No reason the same cant happen with LG.

Actually ICS is coming to the G2x from LG in the 3rd quarter. Knowing how slow LG is, I'm guessing that'll be pushed back to 4th quarter. Still though, LG isn't abandoning us, instead they're just incompetent.

Lol. G2x received its End of Life. It's not getting any update. What you heard was the news before the end of life report. Sorry.

lg ics update < xda devs ics update
Its already here and getting better with each release. Besides that a port from any other tegra 2 based phone that gets ics is better than anything LG wannabe devs could release.

Is it me or is there something off about LG. The quality, no matter how good the specs are, just seems mediocre. Back in the day, I used to have an LG Chocolate and while it looked great, it was a piece of crap. Since then I never bought anything LG again. When the g2x came out I decided its been long enough and gave LG another chance. The g2x turned out to have as many annoying problems as the chocolate.
I am done with LG for good now. Fool me once shame on you , fool me twice shame on me.

Yup.. I'm done with LG as well. When it comes time for my upgrade on my G2X I'll be looking for an HTC or Samsung device.
I guess I am one of the lucky ones. I have never had a major issue with mt G2x and with all the dev support, it has been the best phone I have owned. The G4x looks promising but I will wait and see.

My resentment for LG has nothing to do with the developers. CM7 is the best thing that could have happened for my G2X. I was VERY close to ditching the phone until I came across the CM7 rom. With the CM7 Nightly 224 + Trinity kernel, my phone is usable once again. I still have to reboot my phone daily so that I can get working email and such (networking seems to hang if not rebooted daily). I can live with that.
As of now I'm happy with my G2x and LG. Number one I'm a brand loyalty kind of guy. I say that to say this I have no regrets with LG, so I'm really looking at continuing our partnership with the G4x.

Yeah the stock Rom for the g2x sucks but in my opinion they always do.... as far as hardware I'm satisfied with my g2x.

That does look splendid. The new UI looks cool also but I don't like the dock icons. Thanks for posting

It might just come bone stock like the G2X did. The optimus 2x has an ugly skin overlay and we got it stock-ish.
It will more than likely be stock android but TBH I wouldn't mind this new UI I kind of like it
