I think some people like me will not post there as it is not in English and I cannot speak the language used on that web page but as for the Gingerbread update for the O3D not being released at this time I think you may have misunderstood LG.
Gingerbread is being released for definite, allegedly this month, and they have said that date for some months now.
While it does suck that the software is out of date and really should be using gingerbread already LG have clearly taken the time to make sure the hardware was rock solid before release and since release have given our phones the best 3D performance available and a unique converter that will make many 2D games into 3D ones. So they have done something for us while we wait
Dave
I have very few problems with mine. I dont mind if they take their time. The phone works very well for me. VERY well.
LG Optimus 3D (T-Mobile/P920)
That webpage mainly is about the p990 (they say Optimus in general but only specified the p990), and only applies to the gb release in Spain. The October gb release announced by LG was for the UK.

Hello everybody
People here are hoping that our XDA developers would magically port ICS as soon as Google delivers the AOSP.
I heard that LG is still sticking with Froyo for Optimus 2x.
Only for T-Mobile they released Gingerbread update.
I heard that it was too using Froyo kernel.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
I think LG reluctance in not updating the 2x models with optimal versions is because of nvidia.
I think nvidia didn't yet given the drivers for gingerbread kernel to LG.
That is why LG didn't update Optimus 2x to Gingerbread and G2X to gingerbread kernel.
In this case I don't think nvidia would port drivers for this mobile phone to ICS at any day.
In that case, how XDA developers can use newer kernel for ICS port (even if it happens) than Froyo?

Not true. Gingerbread is out and can be downloaded in theO2X forums. Also LG has announced ICS is coming to the 2X and its other high end smartphones.
LG Announced today thru PC Mag that we will be getting I've Cream Sandwich for sure. Probably by the end of November. Good news.
Well I dont want to sound mean but, didnt they promise Optimus 2x gingerbread for a year now? So I will believe them when I see it done! Other than that Great news to look foreword to.
BTW, CM will have it out for us before LG will!

Probably with less problems, too.
Remember Gingerbread when it was released... the Dev Community had it released on all phones before any phone manufacture did.
You forget to think that ICS will go through a few revisions before reaching a stable version that will be ported to other phones.
BTW... link?
probably the end of November 2012...lol :-(

LG firmly denies the rumors that claim LG will not be providing the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS update for the LG Optimus 2X. These rumors are NOT true. LG is currently in the process of planning the ICS OS update for the LG Optimus 2X as well as other LG high-end smartphones. Detailed information on the ICS OS update schedule for specific models will be announced, once the ICS OS is publicly released by Google. Please stay tuned for more updates from LG.

straight from their fb page! So the p999 will definitely be getting this update, which who knows maybe it will be a better experience than 2.3.3

Honestly, if LG reads this thread they'll think we don't even care if they release it or not. Come on guys, I for one love the fact that LG is stepping up to the plate to update the phone for us.
Whether it was due to our complaining, the hate posts on their FB page, our forum, Google pressure, or just the social responsibility of LG, it's acceptable by me.
I'm grateful for it and enthused by it. Anyways, back to the fact, it'll probably take them a while to release it, probably by like next April, but it's still an update.
I take back my post on their facebook page now. They seem like they care after all, even if they are slow, it's not like they've been huge players in the mobile industry as far as I know. So let them gain some momentum here.

Don't worry. LG is not reading this.
who cares?
- If LG does eventually put out an upgrade... it wont be untill Summer if that soon
- It will most likely suck like their GB update did.. ( froyo kernal? cmon )
- Before an official release... you STILL wont have drivers to make the phone function correctly because of NVIDIA
this is why i switched to a SGS2 hercules ....im done with LG and NVIDIA ... G2x had great potential... but i am done and will no longer buy from either company when it comes to phones
It's too bad ATi never made a phone and never will, I would have bought one if they did. Unfortunate thing now is that AMD killed ATi, otherwise it probably could have made a phone that would crush the Tegra 2, just like they do with desktop/laptop GPUs. Anyways, I knew this would happen, apparently I was one of the only people that could spot that the other facebook response from "LG" was a fake :/

You obviously never owned a SGS Vibrant.... still running Froyo 2.2 forevermore. Every company does the "shove it out the door and fuggedaboudit shuffle"...
If it used ATI drivers you'd be better off with NV and froyo kernel.

Why stay Here
I don't understand the people who post they are finished with LG and/or the G2x and has had enough. Trade it in for another phone that they say they are happier with, works better than and all that but stay here in the G2x forum to complain. If their new phones are all that much better why aren't they in their NEW forum helping others and such.

I dunno, it's mighty conspicuous they did not say G2X....
Specifically, on Facebook it says:
"We are initially announcing LG Optimus smartphones that will have Ice Cream Sandwich OS upgrade!"
Then on the actual article it says:
"Optimus 2X, the Optimus Black, the Optimus 3D and the Optimus LTE."
That CLEARLY leaves out the G2X.
They are only focusing on the O2x because they originally said it wasn't getting ICS because it was out "before" the Google Update Contract. It was all over the web and now LG publically announced it was a rumor and said they are working on it.
We'll get it eventually. The G2x isn't that old yet. It technically should have been launched with GB. The GB update was promised Day 1 as "GB isn't finished yet, so we'll just launch it with Froyo to make everyone happy". GB update = doesn't count.
So there is no reason why 6 month old phone won't get updated. Probably won't be speedy though.
@above: Optimus 2x = G2x
Same line of hardware. Tmobile has to officially release the update for us... so it won't be announced via LG.

Had the same theory with the Samsung Vibrant. Galaxy S phone, right? So when Galaxy S phones worldwide got Gingerbread, the Vibrant should, too, right? Nope, it was different due to T-Mobile radio and T-Mobile didn't care to push an update. So every Vibrant user is still rocking Froyo while the rest of the Galaxy S world is running official Gingerbread. And don't say Cyanogenmod - support was so bad thanks to lack of closed driver support that CM9 is dropping support for the Vibrant completely, and CM7 never ran right on it.

That's not completely clear. As I recall, the Gingerbread update was originally directly from LG via their updater, and the OTA from T-Mobile followed that.
I am so tired of saying this, but here I go again. The G2X is an Optimus 2X device. To LG it is a 2X. The Optimus 2X line includes the P990, SU660 and the P999. The G2X badging was only for T-Mobile to continue their line of "G" high-end Android devices (i.e., G1, G2, G2X). It was easy for them and LG to just add a "G" to the front of the 2X name. That is why the P999 in Canada is a 2X. Only T-Mobile is allowed to use the G2X name. It is a proprietary name for T-Mobile only. It will get ICS so stop fretting about it already.

Hey LG, since the P990 gingerbread update included the proper LG Camera, is there any way maybe just maybe you guys could push out a fixed LG Camera (NOT AOSP) for the P999 G2X? Many of us bought the phone for the great camera software which you took away with the Gingerbread update!

It ran smooth, but GPS was flaky (you couldn't turn it off, or it wouldn't turn back on until you rebooted) and the battery life was pathetic compared to stock.

Agreed but this obviously isn't Samsung. We've already had an update and have NO reason to suggest we won't be getting more updates.
NVidia and LG have closed drivers but that doesn't stop development. Everyone labels LG as being a bad manufacture based on bad experiences with Samsung.
While I would like more "openness" around the device as a whole, I do ultimately blame NVidia. Even on Desktop Linux boxes, NVidia is hush hush.
IMO, looking at LG or any other manufacture, it doesn't really pay-off to release source code within the first year. You have to think that manufactures have to warranty the devices for a year and people boinking their hardware over some poorly self-compiled driver only costs them money.
I predict we'll get an official ICS upgrade and be shut down. The question is if we'll get a new kernel or if they still pimp that Froyo version!

ICS cannot run on the old kernel. It will have to be a new kernel, and more than likely, a new baseband also (as Qualcomm is continually updating the baseband code to finetune it, so there is no reason for LG not to improve the device with a baseband update also).
I've long figured that while there was a small chance LG wouldn't release ICS for the G2x there was a much bigger chance they would.
Here's my logic: The launch of the phone was a disaster from a PR perspective and left a lot of people considering other manufacturers for their next phone. As a result LG has a lot of ground to make up in terms of consumer trust. In terms of repairing their reputation releasing ICS for the G2x would go a long way to rebuilding the trust they lost. As long as LG's beancounters determine that the money put into developing ICS for the G2x is worth it LG will do it.

Why do people on this board whine about this phone so much? There was nothing wrong with the Gingerbread build. It is a very stable and fast stock Android build. If you don't like it install one of the custom roms based on it or CM7.

1. There is a difference between whining and making a statement
2. Check the sig. 2 steps ahead of you
Hey guys, I might be hopping over to the $29 monthly WIND Mobile plan pretty soon, so I'm looking at the handsets they have and I pretty much narrowed it down to the G2X and the Nexus S. I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 which is really similar to the Nexus S in terms of hardware, so I'm hoping that you folks could shed some light on some of the questions I have about WIND and the G2X
1. How are the custom ROMS for the G2X? I love being able to flash custom ROMS like MIUI and CM7, so I'm wondering if there are custom ROMS out there for the G2X that provides full functionality (ie. smooth video recording, etc)?
2. On my GT-I9000, 512 MB of RAM on 2.3.x Gingerbread seems to hinder the home screen smoothness and performance unless tweaks (scripts, LMK kernels, etc) are applied and even then, it's not always 100% smooth. Does the G2X suffer from the same issue?
3. Some of most impressive specs on paper for the G2X are the camera and the dual core processor, do they live up to the initial hype?
4. If anyone's has/had a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 (and used the custom ROM or stock ROM with lag fix), how does the G2X compare with the SGS?
5. Are there any phone-specific precautions I should keep in mind when rooting/flashing this phone (eg. bootloader locks, etc)?
I'd appreciate any advice/input from owners of the G2X, thanks!
To answer some of your questions..
1. Eaglesblood, latest cm7 nightlies using faux latest cm ds kernel are BOSS! I am using latest 2.3.7 eaglesblood rom and everything just works perfect! I have tried miui roms and they are great also(thanks whitehawx for all the ports)
2. Compared to the i9000 the g2x smokes it even tho it has the same ammount of ram, let me just say this... i have 600+ apps/games and dont experience any lag whatsoever! No scripts needed!
3. Yes!
5. Just make sure you install lg drivers/ apx drivers first, install CWM thru tgagunmans excellent nvflash guide(never thru rom manager since it's a fake flash) Then just flash a rooted rom thru recovery, or you can also oneclick root. G2x doesnt have a bootloader like htc devices(wish it did tho because it would make flashing radio/baseband soo much easier compared to using lg's crappy software/kdz method).
Also..
Since the nexus s already has ICS it might also be an attractive option but since it seems your wanting input on g2x, once cm9 is publicly released for our phones it will be an even more amazing device since it is the OS our G2x's should have started with from the beginning(hw acceleration, multicore support, improved ui,etc)

The camera software was changed in Gingerbread. There are a few options gone from the Froyo LG Cam. Also added more compression to the pics taken. Not as sharp and clear.
Wait until ICS is available fo the G2X then decide. If it's the G2X, buy a 2nd hand one, they,re a lot cheaper.
I love the phone but to be honest, the camera sucks ever since LG removed the new camera and the modded ones don't work the same. Not a problem for me though, I don't use it.

It wasn't too bad on Wind mobile. But it's a lot more enjoyable once I rooted and upgraded to Gingerbread on EaglesBlood rom.
