[Q] Alternate replacement for samsung galaxy s 4g ? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I have just received my samsung galaxy 4 g few days ago ,and I love everything in it expect the poor battery life which makes me have to charge it twice a day, with lite to moderate use,I contacted tmobile about that and they decided to replace the phone BUT with an alternate replacement since they run out of galazy s 4g ,
they offered me mytouch 4g slide .or LG g2x,
I know they both have better camera ,and i love the way the samsung feels to touch, the screen ,etc
do you think i should deal with the battery problem and keep the samsung ?
or i should pick one of those ?which one do you recommend ???

There are numerous tweaks etc for battery life and more. Gingerbread greatly improves battery life compared to Froyo which is stock. I normally get a 2 days+ on battery life. Check out the Dev. section

Well I had a g2x when they first came out and it was a god awful piece of sh#+. I have no idea about the my touch slide. I would suggest going to their forum and read around for problems they have. Don't ask if their phone is better because they will of course say yes. Look for common issued people complain about. As far as your current phone goes the battery life on froyo was crappy but having to charge twice a day with light use is not normal in my opinion.

I found charging twice a day to be normal on any stock android so far. Tweaks definately make it way better but I doubt a stock G2x or MT4g slide is going to be any better in that regard. My friends MT4g was about the same as my stock GS4G. Everyone I know with a G2x hates it and says its a POS. Just my 2 cents

so you guys think i should possibly deal with the battery problem and keep the SGS4G?
or at least exclude the LG G2x?

I would at least flash the bali uv kernal and see if you like the improved battery life first. If its not enough the octane rom is killer for battery life. Fyi the bali is for your stock froyo and simply a kernal while maintaining your stock rom and octane is based on gingerbread and a whole different ballgame

Dude I used to be dissapointed in this phones battery life. But after running any gb rom with juice defender, it had improved GREATLY. Batt life on octane is insane.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App

I concur had the same poor battery life on stock gs4g then i upgraded to gingerbead and it had waaayy better battery life. Like previous have stated theres a lot of tweaks for better battery life and also after you flash a new firmware or even as soon as u get a new phone you gotta calibrate the battery also. The g2x, my friend also has it and he hates it also. I used it and it was pretty slow and laggy probably all the bloat.

That does not seem like normal to me either. Do you have lots of widgets running in the background? do you play games often? do you have some kind of task killer software? Look at your 4G/Edge icon is it constantly running? These things drain your battery very fast. I dont know about the my touch 4g slide or the g2x research on those and then decide.
My advice is if it truely is a bad hardware problem then do trade it in. There's nothing you can do to fix it. If it's not then you can decide wether you want to keep it or trade it in.

best rom for batterylife?

hi, i have a thunderbolt and the batterylife sucks. any suggestions for a rom and kernal for the best batterylife? thanks
IMHO there are no black and white answers to this. It depends on how you use your device - more for voice/text or more for data, where you are in relation to the towers and how often you are moving between 4G and 3G.
The one bit I will attest to through experience is that the Gingerbread Sense ROMs chewed through battery a lot more than the Froyo ROMs. (Except Cyanogen Mod 7 but there are radio issues with that. Ones I have learned to tolorate as it is my DD.)
Regardless of rom, you will get max battery with imoseyon's kernel, battsaver mode, 1ghz max + whatever min your phone can handle. Froyo roms get marginally better battery than GB roms. I have not tried cm7 but I have read more than one person suggest it gets less than Froyo or GB.

Froyo 1.66 Stock (plainjanev3 I think is the rooted version). Guaranteed best battery life among the whole bunch. with moderate use, you can go a full day.
Never had any problems with any of the BAMF ROMs
I am going to build a solar powered charger. All supplies bought from Radioshack for around $30. This way, I can carry a charger with me anywhere I go.
However, I am running gingertheory, and battery life has been pretty good. Can go all day at work and lose about 60% with heavy use.

I'm going to second this one, The gingersense roms total kill my battery, but cm7 sips it slower than any other rom in my experience. It's totally functional for me, with the exception that I can't receive vcards in MMS, and the MMS issues are well known. It's my longest running DD currently.

[Q] Best Battery Life

Hello, recently switched from my epic 4g to an evo and now to a nexus s 4g. I am currently running cyanogenmod7 with the netarchy 1.3.9 cfs kernal. I rooted the instance i got the phone so i never found out how stock rom battery life is. Anyhow what do you think the best combination of rom/kernal for battery life is?
Try them all and see what works for you. Just like the Evo, the Nexus has finicky hardware and all the different Rom Kernel combos work differently with different phones. For example, I can't use Matr1x at all. Phone has areas that stop working and gets real laggy but others love it.
|NeXuS S 4G|
I've been running the NS4G stock since the day I got it and the battery is AMAZING! But I'm comparing it to my previous Android phones, Hero (battery life was OK) and EVO (battery life was horrendous!)
I'm ready to root the Nexus and I'm hoping that none of these custom ROMs mess w/ my current battery life..
Stock the battery is awesome I've had this phone for a month and still can't mimmick it.. but on my rooted Evo still had better battery life than this phone I stretched it to 37h 49m but.. and using matrix I get dead spots on the center of the screen every now and then.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA Premium App
This should be in Q/A....
But to the point I've been using CM7 and Netarchy and it easily lasts through the day. Usually the phone leaves the charger around 8~AM and by 9PM-12AM when I plug it in for the night it's usually above 50 percent, sometimes down to 30-40 if I used it a lot.
Usage patterns will determine the battery life more then anything else. Don't Overclock or go crazy on background updates and the S will treat you right

You quoted the wrong person lol.. Honestly I used it, just didn't sync anything and turned off the 3g by unchecking the enable always mobile. had Calkulins roms that undervolts, Netarcys beautiful 4.3.2 cfc suv no havs rom .. all results vary of course through person to person.. I'm not constantly on the phone and crying that it can't last more than 6 hours... the last hour of it i was playing street fighter on the snes emulator as well.

lmaoo whoa what a fail.. anyways.. so your 3g was turned off the whole time? don't really know that many roms about the evo cuz I have an epic and my bro has a nexus s 4g.. I love the epic and it has great roms/kernels/battery life but when i look at all the roms for evo i feel like im missing out.. cyanogen and miui man.. those are what i want.. the most i went with my epic with 3g on the whole time was about 27hours..
EDIT: actually running on 30+ hours now on the epic with 40% battery left..

Are you happy with your sensation?

So guys, are you hapy with your HTC Sensation? After seeing the performance, lag and battery issues, and also phone heat ups, are you happy with the phone?
Please feel free to comment!
Thanks
No. Look at the problems it got. The power button issue, which HTC KNOWS, but simply haven't fixed yet. And then there is the screen "failure", dust can come under it, and spoil the joy of having the phone. And there is also the home screen issue, when it sometimes doesn't work. Not only that, but the lack of support been given is just incredible. I have reported the issue in online chat with an HTC employee. And she simply said that I could reset the phone, delete all third-party apps. I mean WTF? If you know the problem, at least inform the workers, so they know such things. But apparently, HTC is shooting devices out! HTC sensation, then it exploded! XE,XL Rhyme, explorer, rezound. And the worst part is! They haven't fixed the audio issue, which comes when you record a video. Even in the new rezound. I am gonna trade it for a S2, if I can. Properly not. But I will give it a try.

I havent had any problems with my Sensation, yea battery isn't the best but name an android phone that has good battery life?
The only thing that upset me was the squeky battery door besides that what a classic phone.....I jumped to the amaze for build quality purposes and I have zero regrets. Go HTC
My phone does great. No dust and certainly no issue. Battery life is great after I got 1.5 bricked kernel.

Extremely happy with the very cool s4g and no issues!!
I have the XE and it's a nice phone, but ...
Camera quality (video and stills) is poor on my phone
Auto-brightnes sometimes stops working
I loose phone signal sometimes here at home
Wifi death grip
I 'currently' don't have any dust issues and I'm pleased about that, although I keep checking.
Im very happy with my sensation, havent had any problems like dust or something else...
my battery life is 2 days with moderate use. But my phone signal isnt so brilliant

WOW, what are you running ? (ROM, Kernel, UC/UC/OC, ....)
I am extremely happy with it now thanx to the devs on this forum to make my life easier lol. Only thing that sucks is the battery, but i just purchased anker 1900 battery so it gave my phone extra life and using rom ARHD with Bricked Kernel 1.5r beta 2. Now for the terrible part the fron facing camera that sucks mad ass, but i dont use it anyways cause i have an itouch4g
I'm using Sensation around 3 months, I switched from the old Nokia 3510i and I don't have any single problem with it. Only issue was poor battery life.
But now Bricked 1.5 kernel with latest MIUI rom extended my battery lifetime significantly.

Energy ROM sense 3.5 with stock kernel, so no UC/OC... just installed the ROM and enjoyed a wonderful battery life xD
HTC Sensation + HyperSensation CM7 + faux kernel = BLISS
I tried Sense and MIUI roms but CM7 works the best for me
All in all, Very Happy with the Phone!!!

mine Sensation is the dogs danglies
well ... it depends on what did you bought it for i guess. Iam well satisfied as for functionality but there are few but's.
1. The image and video quality taken with the camera is very poor (my HD Mini did better)
2. Battery life is horrible on 4G networks
3. Sense UI keeps restarting often, to prevent it you have to manually clear Sense cache
4. Network and wifi signal keeps goin up and down like on a rolercoaster
5. The HTC audio enhancement (HTC SRS) in HD movies is awful
thats the only negative things i found, all in all, its not that bad, could be worse.
I use good phones (MDA compact III-> Nokia E90-> Xperia X1-> Sensation), but this one... dream! Battery-nightmare.
Cheers
My sensation is running great.
I haven't had a single problem. Haven't had any dust, or power button issues etc.
I'm running Scott and Jon's latest MIUI with show-P's latest AOSP kernel. Running like a dream. Excellent battery life. I also got an anker battery.
I was a bit hesitant before I got this phone TBH, because of the issues I heard people talking about. But I haven't experienced any of them.
I would definitely recommend this phone to my friends.

Battery Life

Have one of these, rooted, stock rom on Rogers (LTE).
The battery life seems inconsistent... Some days it seems fine but days like today with 11 hours off the charger, with the two highest battery culprits being android OS (46%) and android system (16%) the battery life is already at 26%.
Other days when its on my desk it uses nowhere near as much...

You talking about the TMo version? I did a search and I cant find a Skyrocket or Rogers version of a BeastMOD ROM.
BTW I get have been getting 34-37 hrs @ 20-15% on the BoneSTOCKeteer-v1.0 ROM with med to light use. Your mileage may vary, but stock ROM only lasted a day with the same use.
edit: the more you play with/use your phone the faster the battery is going to peter out no matter the ROM
I noticed that wifi has a big impact on battery life. I hit about 50% of battery life with it on in about 5 hours but with it off and moderate use I can get 2 days use.
Just a thought and I froze lots of the SNS syncing apps with TB. I dont use those since i use another program for FB.
I actually like the ATT Smart Wifi app. Shuts down wifi when not in use. I think the free version of Juice Defender doesn't do that.
I have now owned my 727R for 6 weeks, coming from an iphone 4. I am finding the battery life inconsistent from charge to charge and anywhere from barely adequate to downright poor. Maximum I have ever gotten was 26 hours with minimal use and minimum has been 10 hours with minimal use.
I have installed and use Juice defender, and have looked at a variety of apps such as cpu spy, cpu hound, traffic monitor. I have turned off notification as much as possible and all other tricks under the sun.
My phone does not seem to go to deep sleep often and a lot of times it shows as awake even though the screen was off for a while.
The straw that broke the camle was when I cmpared notes with my clleague who has a Galaxy S (I know, no 4g, no LTE, smaller csreen). But he is getting 90% battery life with wifi and bluetooth on after 7 hours 15 minutes (minimal use). In the same time period I am down to 60% with bluetooth off!
I am not planning on rooting the phone and using custom ROMS or Kernels right now.
What gives? What do I look at to improve battery life?
Thanks
i notice with out a lot of changes i get horrible horrible battery life. but with a custom rom like quick wiz. i turn screen down. wifi off. under clock it and use a battery saver plus task killer i get two days moderet (use

I would suggest since Roger stock rom sucks the life out of the battery to root it and use faux123 kernel and Gideon's script to under clock it. Im using at&t stock rom rooted and faux123 kernel and I haven't had a bad battery day yet.. currently 12hrs moderate use 73% still.... not bad at all. It looks like this isn't available for Skyrocket.
1) Does it work like it should, and does it save battery, or is the battery savings negated by other junk running with it in the background? Reviews seem very mixed.
2) If you got it on a SR, how? Would pulling the APK from another device work?

I hated my skyrocket when I first got it because the battery sucked. Never could make it through a full day of average use. I did a search, found out how to root and install a custom rom and now I love it. I can go a full day and still have 20% left. All I can recommend is rooting and at least remove bloatware. I've never seen a single skyrocket user happy with their battery life on stock. Maybe sell or trade it for another iPhone.

I'm a G2 / iPhone 4S user and I can honestly say that iPhones' battery is crap. Might be the bug everyone's on about, but seriously - I don't even think it's a bug, just the iCloud service, and all the rest background info and diagnostics that are sent all the time. I switched all of them off, and still it sucks battery on Idle more than Android. I can get through a day, sometimes two on the G2 with MIUI, iPhone drops like 15-20% overnight, and about 10-15% per hour daytime.
I, personally got tired (and bored) of the OS in a couple of months and selling the 4S.
Maybe it's just me, but I get excited when I see news of new ports, kernels, hacks etc on my Android RSS feed, on iOS feed all I get is "amazing new wallpapers" news.

I must agree, iPhone battery is worst. My Dad has iPhone 4s and My wife has iPhone 4 so I know how quickly the battery drains especially the 4S. There are also other things that bothers me about IOS. It is not as user friendly or intuitive as you think. I used to think that out of the box, iPhone has the more user friendly OS but not anymore.
I found out that you can not attached files as easy as you would like android when composing e-mail. There is no conditional call forwarding options in the call forwarding settings. Turning wifi on/off is not as easy as placing a widget on the home screen for toggling. No text reflow. browser doesn't play flash (There are a lot of sites that my wife visits that plays flash videos and her ipad/iphone can't play it). I'm sure there are more

anyway, from what I understand, IPhone 4/4s batteries are 1420mah...
also, the battery in the Iphone is gonna wear out at some point, then you'd have to deal with the hassle of sending it to Apple for a replacement.
you'll loose the bigger screen and customization of Android phones, and have to deal with a boring OS.
not worth it imho.
If I was in your shoes and have battery problems, I'd just get a new, bigger battery... but that's me...
whatever you choose, good luck.
flash miui, your battery life will be much better since its very light. or trying using an ics rom(preferbly the senseless ones) it has really great battery life

Tried a lot to get a newer EVO3D battery, but in my area, locally it is available for 70$..and the OEM chinese costs 45~55$...
Even i am confused about apple's battery life, but on my friend's iphone, we browsed internet for about 1/2 hour, played infinity blade for another 1/2 hour and for next 1 hour, we used cydia app store to browse and install packages which included 5~7 reboots...
Stil he just lost 17% of his battery life and you all maybe shocked to hear that he had his fone lcd brightness @ 70% :-O

No, I'll do with an iPhone, what an iPhone is best at - I'll sell it ))))
I agree with the commenter above, I didn't want to rant about the OS, but since we're on the subject - iOS is far less user friendly, because of the closed and unintegrated OS architecture.
For example: Apps can not communicate with one another. Like when you are in a RSS reader the "full" article will open in a webView space, meaning it's not the Safari browser, but an interface the developer created, that has the safari rendering engine inside. So, every app developer has to "create" a browser of his own, witch is a bad idea and often feels like an afterthought. If you use services like Read It Later, there is no guarantee that an App will allow you to save the article for later reading, because the app can't see it's installed - you have to hope the developer included it in its "share" option. There is almost always a "read in Safari" option, but you can't change it - you can not assign a browser you like and use as your default browser. same with Camera, Gallery app etc.
The things mentioned above, like browser without text reflow, t9 dialing, easy way to toggle BT, WIFI, Brightness etc...
Settings is a clusterf*ck! I don't know where the whole iOS = Consistency thing came from, but believe me - there is nothing consistent about iOS Settings. Some apps will have settings right inside the app, some will integrate their settings into the OS settings menu, some will have both. For example in an IM app you'll have your settings for color theme inside the apps Options menu, and separate ringtone options in the OS Settings. More than that - Even some Games will throw some options into the OS Settings. So you want to turn off notifications for your emails. You go into Settings, and you have to find Mail Settings among Guns'n'Glory, GT racing, Location Services, Mobile Networks etc... And clicking on Guns'n'Glory might give you an option to turn ingame Vibration On/Off, for example - Why not include the option inside the game menu!??
iTunes is another bi*ch As it turns out you can not sync your phone to more than one computer in 2012 - wtf? Real world example for you here: I chose that my Work PC will be my computer i sync my iPhone with, because I spend more time with tech at work than at home, so now i'm on holidays for 2 weeks and I can't even put any music on to my iPhone! for 2 freaking weeks my iPhone enjoys the autonomy, while I'm out of office - it's ridiculous.
We are spoiled by Android. It's far more productive. iOS is good for launching apps - nothing more. Imagine your current Sense device as it is now, but stripped of everything, but the app drawer. You unlock your device, and there is nothing but the app drawer there.
no u should on it

Bad battery life?
Look at the screenshot attached
Stick with the Sensation. Flash a custom ROM.
As usual....
HTC > Apple
Android > iOS
Sensation > iPhone

If you haven't tried it, give SENSEaY a try. I almost gave up on the sensation and started looking at the sgs 2, but since flashing that rom I routinely charge every other night, sometimes every 3 nights. In the post there are tips for saving battery life. I think mostly turn off pocket mode and phone finder helps a lot.
Another thing I want to point out is the Evo 3d oem battery is only $14 on Amazon, I don't know if you can get that shipped to you somehow. 15% extra is not a lot, but it does help.
