Guys I want to go launcher ex as my default launcher and want to remove twlauncher3.0 from system/app folder. How can I do that???
Means I want to make go launcher ex as my system app & not as 3rd party installed app. Can I place go launcher ex apk file in system/app??? Is that enough??
Also tell me that how can I save battery which is drained by go launcher??? But I want to use all fancy animations also from go launcher ex without battery drain.
Just move the file from data /app to the system/app and delete the touchwiz launcher 30.apk from system/app

Don't move go Launcher to system partition: go launcher updates often and you will have 2 copies (one on the system partition and one on the partition for user applications). I just removed touchwiz and that's all (but in this case you have to remember do not delete go launcher from application management )
Why do you even want to remove tw? you can easily set go launcher as default. the result would be the same unless im missing something here.

because it takes some space in the system partition and you can put there other applications (for example favorite music player/root explorer/so on)
May be I am wrong but even though an application is system application it can be updated for example google maps.
Also I want to remove twlauncher because when I will keep my golauncher as default launcher then twlauncher will run in background un-necessary.

Nope as soon as go launcher is set as default... Just kill tw launcher by using any good task killer & restart your phone...

Been using ADW Launcher for a few days and love it. Got my screens setup with the widgets I like, folders, etc...Now got ADW Launcher EX and really don't want to go through the pain of having to recreate all my folders and widget placements. I backed up my desktop from Launcher and wanted to see if there's a way to import that in to Launcher EX? Thanks.
Import from ADW free?

Bump.
I spent so much time getting ADW free set up exactly how I want it, I'd really hate to have to start all over again.
Anyone?

Simply rename (or copy, if you want to retain both) your saved config from ADW free to the new names used by ADW EX:
Code:
# mv /sdcard/adw_launcher.db /sdcard/adw_ex_launcher.db
# mv /sdcard/adw_settings.xml /sdcard/adw_ex_settings.xml
Then, switch to ADW EX and just:
Code:
Menu > ADW Settings > Backup and Restore > Restore ADW Settings
Menu > ADW Settings > Backup and Restore > Restore desktop configuration
Just to be sure, I then forced a:
Code:
Menu > ADW Settings > Restart ADW
although I think ADW had decided that it would restart anyway.
After a few moments of re-painting the icons a couple of times, I'm ready for business!
You'll need to get to a shell prompt to be able to use the commands above, perhaps using Terminal Emulator (free) or another similar app from the Market.
Or, you can use any of the file manager apps like Astro (free) available in the Market.

This didn't work for me. I was using the free ADW Launcher that comes with Cyanogenmod 7. I installed ADW EX Launcher (for $0.10 on the Google 10 Billion Apps promotion) and tried renaming and restoring my old settings and desktop configuration as you described, but nothing changed.

This doesn't work for me.
Importing settings into the newest adw ex update (1.3.3.5+) doesn't work. Screws with the dockbar.
file renames = doesn't work This is holding me back trying adw ex after buying it in the sale
Most likely the trick won't work anymore because there's been lots of reconstruction of the codes in ADW ex.
File Renames worked perfectly for me...! Except for the Widgets...
Might want to try it again? Checking if the names are right?
Renaming ADW backup files may have restored some of my settings, but definitely not my desktops
If I want to use it, looks like I have to replicate six months of fiddling, or just start from scratch.
It would take longer trying to figure out a way to do this than to just set up your Launcher again from scratch. Perhaps moving from one to another is a good time to update your layout and do something new anyway?
Just an observation.

Haha, I'm about five iterations removed from that post, currently using Trebuchet on eyeballer's CM9 nightlies. I guess I was being a little silly about rearranging my widgets
Still haven't redone my phone (which will probably not see ICS) w/ ADW Ex, though.
I know this is an old post, but, I just upgraded from ADW to ADW EX, using ADW first, went to ADW Settings/System/Backup and Restore, did a backup, fired up es file explorer, went to the /sdcard/ADW Backup/ directory and renamed the backup folder from adw_adwbackup_### to adw_ex_adwbackup_### (didn't mess with the files inside, just the folder) then launched ADW EX, popped into ADW Settings/System, hit restore and everything I set from the free version was now set it in the Ex version.
I want to replace default launcher with LauncherPro, browser with Opera Mobile, etc., Do I just re-name the app (like browser.apk), and replace?
It would probably be better to just change the defaults so that the system will use LP and Opera.
Settings >applications >manage applications > clear the defaults for browser and twlauncher
Next time you press home it will ask for your preferred launcher. The next browser action will ask for your choice of browser.

For LauncherPro, this is fine, but for the browser, it doesn't ever want to work correctly, for different activities (like clicking links within apps, or doing a google search) it will ask me randomly which one to use.
I have another question, where are 3rd party apps (every app that's not a system app) stored?
Ty.

I use the ADW Launcher as it has so many configurations. How many icons you want up or across, the main icons at the bottom of the page etc..
can i replace system apps by 3rd party?
No. You can not just overwrite system apps with third party ones. The second post explains the best way to take care of your request.
I think GO Launcher EX is the best out there. I've tried ADW and Launcher Pro and GO Launcher is the fastest, most stable one of the three. No homescreen hang/withdraw(unless the launcher crashes and restarts, which rarely happens but even when it does it's only for about 2-3 seconds)
Anyways, i wouldn't replace system apps unless it's to update(Like Swype. You sometimes need to uninstall it before you can install the updated version)
hi all, i like go sms but the program is very quick if i always to use it. if sometime i use it, the program is very slow to start.
so, what way is the solution, if i copy the apk file to the system/app/ so can it start to faster

Cool may give that a try I was gonna re do my phone anyhow.
Personally, when I replace a system app, just install whatever replacement app you want to use and the I use Titanium Backup to freeze the system app. You shouldn't get any pop-ups asking which app to use for an action, because there will only be one choice since the system app has been frozen.
i can't freeze any system apps by titanium backup.
I just got my atrix 2 today and have rooted it and installed titanium backup.
It seems the default launcher was overwritten by adw ex.
Does someone happen to have an Apk for the moto launcher so I can put it back?
Try an app called Homeswitcher. Will allow you to swap back and forth between any custom launcher and home.
yeah I use homessmack and totally forgot to use it to select my default.
Its fun to be a noob again.
I have homeswitcher installed. when I clear defaults it only lists ADW EX and Go Launcher EX as choices.
If u want it back u have to remove it. All Motorola androids are like that the stock launcher disappears til u uninstall the others. My atix and electrify was the same way

hmm, home switcher worked for me.
there are 2 versions of home switcher, are you sure you installed the right one?
either way, i too had the, cleared defaults and moto launcher still didn't show up problem.
Ok glad to hear this weirdness is normal. Thanks for the replies.
Yeah Moto's home comes right back when you remove ADW. It seems like a courtesy feature. Motohome just goes and hides in a corner and lets other homes do their business without asking if you want it to be default.
I am very happy with the Launcher that comes with the Atrix 2. Why would I purchase or download a different one?
Ermmmm... Well first off, customisability and... nothing more?
If that launcher fits your needs then keep it
Just to have more options......
I'm switched but now am back to running stock.

Customizability and tons of more options. With an aftermarket launcher, you can pretty much tweak the look and feel of your device to suit your needs and desires. You can make it look like "your" device. It doesn't hurt anything to install one of the free launchers and try it out. I would actually recommend it. I personally use LauncherPro but ADW and GoLauncher are pretty good choices as well. If they don't suit your needs then there are many other options on the market. If none of them spark your interest then the stock launcher may be your launcher of choice. It's all about options and choices...Take that iPhone guys!!!
I was fine with the stock launcher with one exception...I cannot stand the horizontal page scrolling for the app drawer. If I wanted my phone to behave like an iPhone I would have kept my iPhone.
So I use ADW or Zeam and got the vertical scrolling back.
In case anyone cared, ADW EX is one of the 10 cent apps on the market today. I typically use Go Launcher, but I'll try out ADW again. Customization is always cool with a launcher.
Most helpful reply, lilhaiti. I am not familiar with Launchers, new to Android, but quick to learn. Thanks!
Sorry if I hijack the thread, but today I installed the ADW Ex and I don't know how to switch back to the original launcher.
Can anyone give me a hand?
I have not found a way to switch without uninstalling ADW. There used to be (still is?) a "home switcher" app in the market. I have used it in the past on other phones I've owned. I don't know if that would work on our phones or not.
The home switcher app should work. Otherwise, you can go to manage apps from settings, select the launcher and remove default. Once you hit your home button again, it will ask you to select your default again.

D'oh! I totally forgot about the remove default option. Using an iPhone for 7 months made me dumb.
Thanks for the answers. I went to app manager and under ADW the option "clear defaults" is greyed (not available) and it says "No defaults set".
Edit: I just tried the home switcher app and it doesn't work either, I can "launch" the original launcher but when I put "set as default" the app crashes.
Do you think if I uninstall ADW I would go back to the original launcher?

I would assume that uninstalling adw would let you choose the stock launcher the next time you hit your home button.

This should be true. For some reason with this phone when you install a third party launcher it automatically sets that launcher to default. So by removing ADW you should get the stock launcher back.
I don't know much about this launcher, but ADWLauncher EX is on sale for $0.10 on the Android Market ONLY today. If you want to try it, tonight is the time to get it.
P.S- There's a useful free tool called "HomeSmack" that lets you toggle between multiple launchers at once.
Hello,
Today I have flashed Slimbean into Nexus S and it has the Holo Launcher HD as the stock launcher and I dont like it much.
Also I have bought NOVA Prime and its the main launcher I use on all my devices and I want to intergrate it to the system as the stock launcher and remove Holo HD completely. what im trying to achieve is save some ram that native launcher using while its in background.
I have read couple of articles says rename the NOVA apk as the native launcher and place it in system/app folder. but almost everyone replied had said that it leads to force closes. and also I think there's something missing too. what about the app data folder? shouldn't it be replace the native one too?
so can you please guide me on how to achieve this correctly?
Thank you for your time.

If you go to "slimcenter" in the phone settings, there is a place where you can delete system apps. There should be one that is called "launcher2.apk" that you can remove, then you should only be left with nova.

Thank you very much for your reply. Slim 3.1 didnt have that slim center. but I managed to do this from using aroma file manager in CWM.
but as every other one said, it leads to force closes every time. After the boot, nova repeatedly closing itself.
is this the only method? what about the data folder? would it be the reason?

I have no idea what could be causing the FC's. I have not done this myself. Maybe what I would suggest, is to leave that launcher there, and just disable it from the app menu. I don't think that program uses too much space if its just sitting there.
