[Q] PLEASE, tech/cell engineers, explain 2 me ghost screen! - General Questions and Answers

hi,
i have had 2 touchscreen cell phones that have bad the "ghost screen problem".
the screen becomes non responsive where you touch and sometimes when you touch a certain spot (icon) it responds somewhere else.
i am going insane trying to find an explanation to this issue!
could a techie/expert/electronic cell phone engineer explain this to me? please? i beg you!!!
i have made a video of my cell phone acting up and posted it on youtube. sorry i explained the video in portuguese... but you can still probably understand the video!
i cant post links yet... so... see my video under my username: emailyarabrandao (youtube.com/watch?v=j4l9PZJFe-Q)
i have tried everything: i am running stock android froyo, nothing is installed and i have done a hard reset. i have taken the battery off, it happens with the usb connected and not connected. i have tried another oem usb cable and even connected the darn phone to 3 different computers running different windows os systems. and no i am not using a screen protector. the screen is clean and i even have washed my hands before touching the darn screen.
like i said before, this has happened to two cell phones of mine! a htc g1 and a motorola droid 2.
i did some research on youtube and found various videos of people with the same problem. as i understood it is a touch screen issue, it happens in various makes and models of cell phones.
i thank you kindly for your time in reading this post! i hope you can help me understand this issue! thank you.

Didnt see the vid since i cant click on it. But if u are using dual touch on a phone with a cross axis issue it would do that.
If not and its single touch i guess its a faulty screen since u did mention the screen and ur hands are clean. (Water on the sceen can ccause that too btw.)

^hummm... you spoke greek to me here; "But if u are using dual touch on a phone with a cross axis issue it would do that.".
can you be more specific?
i guess i should have mentioned on my 1st thread what phones i had. my 1st touchscreen phone was a HTC G1 and the other was a Motorola Droid 2.
but as i mentioned above, i have seen various videos on youtube from other users too.
the vids are not specific to make and model, they are all random.
i thank you for your response.

please... any help on this???
i cant find enough material on the net to help me understand the "ghost screen issue"... the inner workings of it...
thank you in advance!

bumping this up, hoping some high tech peep would help me understand this issue!
anyone knows anything in regards to my 1st post/question on this thread?
i really would like to hear some high tech guys on this touch screen issue!
thank you in advance!

[Q] Pretty big design flaw with the wifi

Anyone else notice this? When you hold the phone in landscape, the wifi straight drops out? (Most notably when covering the power button end of the phone with the left hand.) Seems to me that having the antennae built into the back panel/battery cover was a wrong design choice.
Edit: And let me add that reception doesn't drop, just the wifi.
we both made a post about this at the same time. I'm having issues also. I didn't notice that it happens in landscape specifically. it happens all the time to me
Your post is a joke right? Or is this your very first time on the internet and you happened to randomly land on xda for your very first post ever; all the while managing to avoid the hundred of posts regarding the exact same thing?

It could be possible, chances are probably as good as getting struck my lightning, winning the lottery and seeing pigs fly all at the same time, but still entirely possible...
Didn't know this forum was full of wanna be mods. If you came him in here with the intention of just ****ting on me, then shame on you. If anything you could of just pointed me in the right direction, like a REAL mod would do, then let this topic die.

I'm am no such thing... I think perhaps you should first watch the Video titled:
'You are a NOOB on XDA-Developers'
before you post anything. This issue must have appeared 100s of times on this forum. It would be sensible to use the search feature in future to prevent the forum getting clogged up with the same old topics... I mean it is taking an age now to find anything which is new and worth reading on the sensation forums.
It is not my intention to cause harsh feelings towards other members. However, it's just sometimes easier to convey a point with a slight bit of sarcasm (a concept I know some folk find difficult to grasp) than doing what I am now and stating the obvious about the fact that you should search the forum before posting. IF your issue isn't already in the forum, or it is not particularly related, then you need to post a clear and decisive thread, detailing all of your issues. However I can assure you this has been posted many times in the past week or so and I'm getting sick and tired reading the same old thing!! I'm sorry if I upset you or dented your ego; you'll survive
I hope you continue to enjoy the forum, just as I intend to do myself
Thanks and again I'm sorry for portraying 'stick up my ' behaviour (perhaps a tad extreme response from yourself), just my way of communicating a message; which in future I'll bear in mind because I now know it can cause irrational responses from people, something which I personally do not aspire to cause.
Hope you enjoy the rest of your day.
Regards,
Hayden

I have no intention of being a Mod - to much hassle. I would like to note that many Mods on this forum would have given a similar response that I just have - USE THE SEARCH, it's there for a reason!!
Well said hayden. he is right noobs. I think you should have read the forum rules first laid out by the mods. Read other threads. If your issuer isn't there then post and we will be more than happy to help

Back on track... I have the same issue as the op (putting my palm over the top of the phone with my fingers on the back causes my wifi signal to decrease) I noticied it before reading this thread because the wifi calling notification would randomly show up while connected to wifi

Hmmm... this may call for a Recall by HTC... in return for Unlocked Bootloader Sensation Replacements.
Mine will be delivered tomorrow so I cannot do any testing right now but by any chance is there a way to change the power setting on wifi? If it is in power saver mode or something similar it could be more susceptible to interference.
Different phones but my HD2 had some weird quirks on Wifi till I forced it to full power on wifi.
Might not help but its something to look at perhaps.
No problems on wi-fi, so far so good, after unlock it will be perfect.

Yea, 10332007 you nailed it... I went to settings > wifi settings > Menu > Advanced and turned on "Best wifi performance" and then it would only drop one bar. (previously dropped 3). battery sucker, but it does decrease the severity of the issue, besides I'd expect some drop in signal with my meaty paws in the way.

No real criticism intended, but I would like to point out a slight flaw in your argument. I am not what I would consider a noob, and I am searching for the very same answer.
Had you actually been nice enough to help this person, you would also help others that are searching for this information too. We all have to wade through a ton of false leads when trying to hunt this type of info down. I find there is quite a bit to sort through sometimes, and it is people that are kind enough to answer these questions (noob or not) that also help so many others.
It seems that this is the spirit in which this community was built upon, I see so many angry and irritable people around this forum these days... it is such a shame.
In this situation, you would not only have helped a noob, but you would have saved time for all the other folks that are trying to locate this info and read the title of this post.
I think he gets it now, guys.
This was his first time posting, relax. Hopefully from now on he'll use the search feature, but for now the least you can do is just help the guy out AND advise him about the search feature. Let's not scare away a new forum member.
Wish I could help you, but I am only getting my Sensation next week.
I don't have this problem at all. Have tried and tried to replicate it, but can't. Glad I don't have this problem.

[Q] Samsung Captivate Glide

I'm planning to buy a new phone and this phone comes up as one of the few that I am thinking of. I do need it to be unlocked and rooted...
Any developers thinking of picking up this phone? Or this phone is dead on the water?
Thanx.
I actually just bought one last night, and was wondering the same thing.
I'm a *nix guru (coming from an n900) and would be happy to start playing around, but I am new to Android.
I haven't been able to find the stock firmware yet, which makes me nervous; even if I (soft)brick, I'm hosed.
If anyone manages to find the stock Samsung rom (or even the Rogers one), let me know, and I'll get started rooting.
I picked up the Rogers version, Galaxy S Glide, and Im pretty excited to see some custom roms for it.
Also, where is the best place to post and find info about this phone? I dont think there is a dedicated section on XDA yet.
Update: I actually looked around XDA and found the "Request a Forum" thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301121
Anyone interested in this device should help out with a request!
We need to somehow get the mods to make a Samsung Captivate Glide forum before anything will happend...
Although for it to warrant a forum I'm guessing we need a lot of people (that has the phone) and developers that want to do something to the phone.
We have one person for developer here, I guess we need more?
And we need to contact a higher person on XDA....
Anyone knows anyone?

Is there any recourse when you hate your phone 6 months in? (T-Mobile G2X)

I've had the G2X since release. It was my first smartphone, and so maybe I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. (I probably still don't have a real idea.) I've had the freezing/rebooting problems since about 2 weeks in. It's never been as serious as some folks say, as it only freezes up ever couple of days or so, but MAN is it irritating when it does. I'm way outside buyer's remorse, obviously, so what kind of options to I have? Can I still get the phone replaced by T-Mo, to hopefully get one that has less reboot issues?
In case you were wondering, I have modded the phone to see if other ROMs would fix the issue, but they have not. It seems like the freezing issue will be gone for a short time after wiping and flashing a new ROM, but then a couple of weeks later it's back to how it was. Any advice? Maybe try to trade it out on CL or something?

As this is your first smart phone I would look a little deeper. Things like this are normally caused by apps eating up your ram. Also what roms have you tried? Have you tried a full wipe and then restoring your apps one by one till you find the issue?

[Q] Wow.. no pause & resume while recording? Unbelievable :o

I've been using my boring but extremely durable Nokia N73 for the last 5 years or so, but when the 3MP camera on it finally broke after literally hundreds of hits to the floor I decided to finally invest in a new phone.
Video recording has always been a key feature to me.. so I was really shocked when I found out that many high-end phones lack the ability to pause & resume while recording. Which is ridiculous as almost every old phone had it. For example the almighty Galaxy S2 lacks this feature.
Someone happen to know exactly why this is? .. And more importantly, could you guys please tell me which modern phones DO have this ability?
Thank you in advance!
Oh c'mon guys.. any sort of information on this matter would greatly help me decide what phone I should get.
Does YOUR phone has this little (but for me vital) feature and if so, what phone are you using?
If there's a pause function or not depends on the app that does the video recording, not the hardware it runs on. Best check the market if there's any app that supports it.

Nokia 5110, no kidding.
I think ZTE s306 is perfect solution. It has big keys and its very good for older people. Hope this helps
Doro makes several phones for seniors.
Especially for them that doesn't wants lots of features.
Doro's might be a little pricey
But if you Google Senior cell phone or Senior mobile phone you will probably get some dozen different models and makes.
