I'm thinking of installing a new ROM but I also see something about a kernel and a redo I should install. I understand how to install a ROM but I get lost when they talk about kernels and radios. Do I install them before or after I put the ROM on? And is it the same presses as adding a ROM?
1.download and put them on my sd card
2.Reboot into cwm
3.And select them from the sd card
Correct?

HI
Well first of all, welcome
Second, read this thread :
[INDEX] Guides - ROMs - Kernels - Radios & RILs - MODs
In that thread, read
"(For Noobs) SDK, ADB, and Drivers"
"Installing S-off, ClockWork, Root, SuperCID & S-on (noobproof)"
In second, everythting is explained .. enjoy
A kernel is the core that provides basic services for the device. It includes all the basic drivers for your ROM like WiFI-Driver, Camera ......

This is the main structure of android
A radio is the firmware for your GSM-Radio.
If you want to flash a different kernel you first install the best fitting rom and then flash the kernel just the way you wrote.
What do you mean with "And is it the same presses as adding a ROM?"
Sorry I'm not a native speaker
I'm too late I guess
Meant to say is it the same process as adding a ROM but got auto corrected

I was a bit confused at first but I figured out too
If u read those guides i posted, everything will be crystal clear to you. Those are really good and helpful guides.
And, if some one helped you on this forum with its answer, just click "thanks" button below his post..
Regards
All ROMs include a Kernel, so use that and ONLY change it if you're not happy with the supplied one.
ROMs may have a Radio version dependency, That will be listed in the ROMs OP.
Thanks for everything guys. This whole thing dosent seem as hard now I have already installed a couple different roms.

GL, It'll get more fun and more hassle as you get more into it.
Just remember, there is no BEST. It's what works for you that's important.

Hello,
I have rooted my HTC Tattoo using universalAND root app. I want to know what can i do after rooting it?? and also if i want to install froyo 2.1 on it how do i do it ?
also will it work on my tattoo ?
Just search for Android Froyo 2.1 in Android Market and push the Update Button....
Wtf search the forums if you know nothing!
Yeah dude he's right do some research.. its not that hard.
I'l give you a quick list of what you can do:
Apps2SD (store apps on SD card)
CPU Overclocking (self explanatory0
FLASH A CUSTOM ROM (I highly recommend that is what you search for first)
Wireless Tethering (share internet connection with your PC)
And lots, lots more...
Your first point of research should most definitely be Flashing a Custom Rom.
But seriously how hard is it to just search google?
@ xtcislove : sorry for being so lazy...actually i was searching for things before posting this..but got really confused half way. thanks for your advice.
@ Android001 : thank you for the starting points..will get to it soon.
no problem..
you do realise he was joking about the market and update thing, you cant do that
yes... well i managed to root my tattoo with universaland root. installed titanium backup. its asking for busybox. when i try to do adb i keep getting an error. i searched the forums for an answer, but they r not helping. m attaching an image if u can just go through it and let me know what can de done..it will be gr8.

I cant see any picture?
I don't know much about the Tattoo because i use a Hero..
For BusyBox i know that it comes built in with most Custom Roms, I know for a fact that it comes with all Villain and Cyanogen Roms.
I think there is an application on the market that I have seen before that attempts to install BusyBox.. but that isn't guaranteed to work.
Does it not just install when Titanium Backup gives you the option to?
And why don't you just flash a Rom then you wont have all this trouble.
Okay a little bit i tell you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=544
Here you should have a look first.
1. Install a Recovery Image
2. Install a Custom ROM
3. Modify your Phone personally but carefully! Do not so much at the system and do not download things of other Phone Section´s!

Have fun
Hi all,
You may need to bare with me a little with all of this, I'm extremely new to it all.
I picked up my Nexus S on Monday after previously owning an iPhone and then a Windows Phone 7 handset, firstly I have to say that I can't believe I didn't get an Android phone sooner - they're leaps and bounds ahead of the competition in my opinion and offer a much better!
With the help of a set of instructions I was able to unlock the bootloader and flash the recovery to use Clockwork 3.0.0.5, from there I was able to install Superuser from the ZIP to root the device.
Everything is working and rooted but whenever I try and get into the Clockwork recovery it keeps chucking me into the standard recovery, I've tried from the bootloader and from ROM manager.
The problem I have is that I can't backup my ROM because it just takes me to the standard recovery and sits there.
I had a look around but couldn't find anything relating to this on the forum.
There was mention of something called 'sgs kernel flasher' but it states it wont run on Gingerbread which I'm running.
Any ideas?
If you have any questions of something I may have missed out I can answer those!
Sosmething very similar to me recently. I just reflashed the clockwork recovery via adb/fastboot and works like a champ now.

Thanks for the help guys, as I said I'm quite new to all this so sadly the thread title:
"Q about cwm 3.0+ and 2.3.2"
Didn't quite stick out to me!
Problem sorted now though, all backed up and new ROM installed - happy days!
Hi everyone, I have a Samsung Galaxy S WIFI 5.0 and when trying to put an apk into the system/apps folder I accidently the apps folder out of the system folder and now it dosn't start. It runs through the boot animation but then displays a black screen playing the force close vibration pattern. But it boots into recovery and download mode fine so I may as well try a factory reset. So I did and still the same. So now all I can do is flash a ROM. And the one that I want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1689310
Cannot be flashed by Odin but only CMW. So now I have to flash a new kernel to get CMW, This one:
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-player-5-0-s-wi-fi-rj-custom-kernel-overclock-84994/
But is it wise to do this in the state my device is in? And also I don't have usb debugging enabled.
Can You help?
I dont have hardly any experience but from a general from a general idea/thought, why dont you flash the latest official rootable firmware from Samsung, thus succesfully rooting it, install CWM recovery, from there install the rom you were talking about

I know that is the sensible idea but i'm not a one for flashing roms or kernels as I get worried about bricking and I would prefer to do it all at once.

Buut yeah, factory resetting only wipes the /data & the /cache partition, if you don't have stuff in the /system partition it won't start.
Just go to your device's forum, follow the procedure and your phone will be running like butter again ^^
Its almost impossible to hardbrick a Samsung phone ;-)

I feel really silly asking this question cause i'm new to all this you see but what procedure?
Dosn't matter now. Fixed it by installing a different ROM

WTF is wrong with people? You get a nice, shiny, new phone and your friend tells you to root it - so you just go ahead without searching, reading and finding out what you are doing first? What would you do if he told you to drink bleach "coz it's fun".
With mates like him, you don't need enemies
If you use the nameless rom, you MUST use the nameless kernel for wifi to work. There is a new nameless overclock kernel released today, find link on pg. 14 of nameless desire c thread.

My experience
I downloaded it the day the nameless came out, any Rom will had faults no matter what phone it is stick with your stock Rom I have and I have deleted all the stock software and tweated the CPU and downloaded the CPU render romover and its running as faster than the custom Rom
BEFORE ANY MOD'S PLEASE MAKE A NANDRIOD BACKUP, ANY ACTIONS TAKEN AT YOU OWN RISK, IT'S YOUR FAULT NOT HTC OR THE DEVELOPER.

Just wondering if anyone has ever tried Myarom before. Its actually a 920C ported rom for 910F… I wanna say. I kinda like it. The customizing, plus one of the few Note 4 roms that isn't a big battery drainer on my Note Edge 915T. Oh and I like how it doesn't break easily if you start flashing mods… launcher animations, boot anime, xposed, etc…. Compared to a few other roms where where I'll flash one mod and all hell breaks. Then back to reflashing rom lol. So this a spanish rom… me think (Spain).
Incase anyone is wondering, i did clean install, flashed R23 emotion F (yes not T, T is broken or something, my 915T dont like, dont start), then i might have flashed SuperSU 64… ..forget. OH! AND dont forget datafix for your version. I used Datfix 1.0

Where can I find this datafix I keep hearing about it
Just install it but I loose the IMEI, so no network at all.
Needed to go back to a stock nandroid backup to recover IMEI, is there any way you can post links to which rom, Data fix and kernel you used?
