[Q] Best UV settings for heavy txt/whtsapp/twitter/fb on Matrix with CM7.1.0.1 - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since i installed cm7.1.0.1 my battery drains very fast
I went ahead and downloaded the MATRIX 9.5 CFS Kernal
now my question is what apps are used to modify the voltages and such for this
what are the best settings as well

Use setcpu...
but for me...Just use custom voltage from matr1x...It is enough UV already...probably you will have hang or reboot if UV more....

If you really want to tinker with the voltages, search for proton voltage control from the Market or check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1091382. Matr1x voltage settings are pretty low as is so I can only suggest using this app if you want to bring them up.

Yeah, make sure to raise em incrementally... maybe +5 each time?

Non Overclocked kernel

I want to make sure I'm not trippin', I've searched all thru the dev forum, and I don't see a non overclocked kernel. everyone complains about battery life but they are using a kernel that wasn't geared for battery life. oc kernels are for performance and bragging rights. we need a stock kernel with uv and ram optimization along with battery optimization mods

Why not just not overclock? Also, the kernel that comes in Inspired Ace isn't overclockable.
There are many battery saving options! If you have the Leedroid kernel, in setcpu you have the option of running your proccesor at Powersave, performance,smartass and so on...this is also in a few other kernels but I am not sure which ones at the moment.
And if you are really hyped up on saving battery, shutoff haptic feedback, turn of data when you are not using it, lower screen brightness, Use a task killer to kill stray apps(if you were playing angry birds kill it afterwards).
These are a few things you can do that will increase your battery life significantly...
With an overclock capable kernel, you can underclock. I run mine at 921 MHz and don't notice any performance hit. I've tweaked the undervolt to as low as I can get away with. I get pretty awesome battery life that way.
Before you ask, I'm using a kernel I compiled myself from HTC's latest linux source for the Inspire. It's essentially stock with only the addition of the frequency table and hooks for OC/UV.

Simply underclocking will solve your problems. I prefer to run @1.4 Ghz. I have everything optimized for speed & efficiency and still don't lose in battery performance.
Running CM7 with LordMod UE 2.6 kernel and smartass CPU governor, I can set the max speed to 768mhz with very little performance hit noticed. I might just keep it that way, haven't decided yet. Scrolling is still smooth, Angry Birds is still smooth. The cool thing about running max 768mhz with the pinky undervolt script is the CPU voltage never goes above 900mv.
I'm running CM7 with nightly 91 and on my Vibrant, they made a kernel that was stock uv no oc and u could use it all day, literally....

[Q] UV and GPU module

sorry for the noob question, since i can't post on the development thread yet, so i figure i'll try look for the answer here
i've installed the CM7 for fit and also the OC kernel along with it. my question is, what is a UV/GPU module for and how to use it? i've seen my friend's device also with CM7 (not galaxy fit) and there's an extra option in his cyanogenmod settings for UV. it says that it can save battery but make unstable performance. well CM7 in galaxy fit is currently still very battery consuming, i think i need this.
i've tried to install Myrt UnderVolt GUI but it says "unsupported kernel. cannot find undervolt table. click ok to exit". but i'm sure i've installed the kernel supporting UV and GPU module from here.
any suggestion? thx before

UV means under volt module and GPU means graphics processing unit the Kernel is modified to deliver extra performance and Overclock the stock frequency to 801(Till now) About battery and all I don't know if this saves battery(Since you are running your processor at higher speed then recommended)You're likely to finish your juice much faster
If you want to save battery than adjust the frequency to lower values an governor to power save or on demand Though I suggest you dont use the in built system settings to do so Use No-Frills

I am using Tsugi 2.3.4 with the Oyasumi 0.1 UV kernal I want to overclock to 1500 but what settings should I undervolt it to that is stable thanks in advance for the info.

We can't tell you not all phones are the same, uv a little (10 or 25) run it for a day or two see how it acts, if its steady, uv a little more, when it starts acting up thats your limit go back to previous settings.

I've seen some general advice not to UV for anything over 1ghz speeds as well, but it may not hurt to try if you want and adjust as needed for stability.
I'm running on a -75mv at 1.5Ghz faux kernel 0.4.7..
Perfectly stable, benchmarked AnTuTu, Quadrant, and all those other good stuff.
I have not tried -100mv yet, I doubt it will be stable.
Every phone is different, but I run mine at -20 up to 1 G, and -10 for the rest.
Mine I cant undervolt shoot I have to keep my minimum frequency at 500 to be stable, course I can also run at 1.5 all day (I keep it at 1.2).
Well I guess I can't say I cant UV since I use pimp my cpu and it only gives you options in 25 increments, maybe I would be stable at like -10. But coming from my galaxy s 4g where I could UV over -150 and still be stable, that just doesnt even sound worth doing.
Edit: I just thought about it and maybe the reason I cant UV (more) is because I'm using fauxs pre UV/OC kernel, so I dont even know what stock voltage is. But comparing to my sgs4g at stock voltage I am running considerably lower voltages on the g2x.
The faux thread says it's pre uv at -50 across the board.

[Q] Noob questions on G2X OC/UV...

I recently rooted my P999/G2x and installed CM7.1.0.1, and am extremely happy with it. Am looking to tinker just a *little* bit more, but have some questions... I have LOTS of answers on the forums, but am somewhat skeptical about the currency of some of the information out there (let's face it, stuff changes fast!). So, down to it:
Kernels:
- Did CM7 overwrite the stock kernel?
- I understand the benefits to changing the kernel; what about drawbacks?
- Does CWM back up your kernel with Backup and Restore? If not, how do you do this?
- Recommendations on a good, reliable kernel to use w/ CM7? I am looking at faux123's CM and morific's Trinity. Thoughts?

- What is the best app to manage OC/UV? I have my eye on setCPU, cpu Master, and Android Overclock (JRummy16)

Since not all the chips are made in the same way, you could soft brick your phone if you try to flash an undervolted kernel. This is the way mine is, and it's somewhat irritating but not all that bad using the stock voltage and overclocking to around 1.4ghz rather than 1.5ghz+. Also, battery life should be expected to be less with an overclocked CPU. It's up to you to decide how you want to run your device.

Yes, backup creates an image of the entire thing. Before you start making changes, always make a backup so you can revert to previous settings should you soft brick your device. Make a backup, clear cache/dalvik, flash the kernel and reboot the phone. First boot times will always be a little longer when flashing a kernel, so be patient and don't pull your battery right away. For me personally, if it hasn't done anything noticeable after about ten minutes, I pull my battery. Reboot into recovery and restore from the backup you made. If you started off trying an undervolted kernel, time to try the standard voltage now!

No, and you'll be able to tell once you flash CM7 and use SetCPU (or whatever you use) and see the max is still at 1ghz.

If you want to be safe just start out at 1ghz. If you have no random reboots with your kernel then move it up to 1.1 or 1.2 and see if it's stable there. Personally, I just went ahead and overclocked to 1.4ghz. For the most part people don't really have problems with this I guess. The problems usually lie in whether or not you are undervolted and by how much. If you find your device can run an undervolted kernel, I would just leave the undervolt settings the way they are. As I said, I can't run OC/UV and have to use SV, so I never touch any of the voltage settings.

Using eagle blood (cm7 based) with faux kernel.
I heard trinity kernels may have random reboot but don't quote me on that.
Try faux kernel with oc/uv. Its very good, latest is 0.48. But if you go with the ds version (debaouch?) The battery percentages are all over the place... Lol one minute its 50% the next it may be 34%...
Use set cpu. I've uv additional 25mv across the board with no I'll effects. Screen off profile at 503 mhz max and some other profiles will have you getting 24hours easily with normal usage.
Make sure test it out before you "set on boot"...

I tired using DS OC/UV Kernel Version 0.4.8 kernel on my g2x running the latest stable release of CM7 1.0.1. Followed all the necessary step of wiping cache, and darvik but when I reboot, I get the blue lg sign after which the screen just black out and its stuck like that till i pull the battery out. Any one know what I may be going wrong here? ? ?
Trinity ELPmax with Phoenixblood is the best combo. Trinity batterylife is amazing. When i leave the house my phones battery is 100%. 11 hours later (I when i make it home) my battery is always under 60% but never less then 40%. I play music as soon I leave the house, and till I get in the house. I also turn of data when not using and have setscpu set to 900mhz max and screen off profile set to 432 max 216 min.

just to add if you want to over clock then go with faux or trinity. the cm7 kernel is faster then both @1000mhz, if speed is what your looking for without the dangers of oc. The stock cm7 kernel also lacks the ability to under volt soo battery life might not be as good though

Format data/ factory reset.
Wipe all cache.
Format system. (don't forget)
Flash cm.
Flash kernel.
It may take a while for the system to boot, 5 min. Let it load, and reboot, enjoy.

CPU apps And underclocking - batter life?

I have a couple of question/advices I want to receive an answer for about CPU.
So I am struggling to get better battery life without hurting performance.
1) Can CPU apps hurt battery life by themselfs. I mean could only using an app not regarding the settings damage the battery life. Is it better to let the cpu work by itself and not any apps managing it?
2) Which is the best CPU control app?
3) Will Underclocking improve my battery life a lot and will it make performance worse. What are the best settings to keep battery life and performance optimized at the same time. If I want to play heavy games I will overclock for the time I play the game. But I don't want my cpu to be working at 1600ghz for instance when I am not doing gaming or similar heavy processes. What are the best settings to improve battery life but not hurt performance?
If you use an app like SetCPU, you can have profiles. I used to have it so that the phone would underclock when the battery reached a certain % or was too hot.
If you're S-Off and rooted, you can get way better battery life if you flash a new kernel. I'm using Faux v004, I've set SetCPU off and just let the kernel do its thing, and my battery life is at 1 day and almost 15 hours.
(I also play a lot of games and the Faux kernel is very resposnive. My games load much faster that they did on stock kernel)

I am rooted and used SetCPU in the past so I know all about profiles and etc. But my questions were. Do programs like SetCPU drain battery? And which best CPU program? And what about undervolting?

Apps like that don't really have any more of a drain than checking your email or receiving a text. If using Faux Kernel, there's an app out there designed for it that helps with clocking and undervolting it, made by the man himself. If not, AnTuTu has one on the market, I think.

Fauxclock hasn't been updated in ages and it's by Romanbb, not faux, afaik.
As for the OP's questions:
1. Not really. I haven't noticed any extra battery drain with CPU apps so it's probably not significant.
2. I don't think there's a 'best' CPU app. I used to use SystemTuner, which worked fine for me, but I switched to SetCPU because I wanted to underclock the intellidemand governor on faux's latest beta.
3. Underclocking will lead to some improvement in battery life. As for undervolting, some people say it helps, others say it's a placebo; personally I've never bothered with it. You could try using faux's kernel with the intellidemand governor, which sets the clock speed (and whether the second core is online/offline) depending on the CPU load. As for best settings, it depends on each individual kernel and your own personal needs, so you might want to try flashing a few custom kernels to decide which one is for you.

Ah, learn something everyday. Whenever I sideloaded the apk on CM7, the author was listed as "faux123".
