first my rom and android version are not important coz i had usb connection working before with same build.here is the thing, one day i removed my external sd card from my phone and put it in my brothers k850i to listen some music on se speakers.when i finished i just removed it coz that phone doesn't have safe remove like ours does.when i placed sd card back in my phone i got error msg that i need to reformat my sd card, but i couldn't lose all my data since i was going on trip tomorrow.so i restarted the phone with sd card inside and it worked(everything no error msg).i went to trip and when i came bace i noticed the problem when i connected the phone to my pc(tryed both win 7 and win xp,i have 2 pc's) to copy some photos.i got 'USB device not recognized' error i tried doing recovery in cwm reinstalling drivers even removing sd card didn't help.sd card is working just fine in my phone and also when i place it in bro's phone and connect to pc i can copy files with no prob(tho when i reinstert it while phone is turned on i do get error for re format).only thing that is going on my mind that cable might be broken, but no1 used it while i was on trip so i dont think so.help needed urgent.
it happened with me also. Its all because of ****ing kies installatio. I dont know why it happens but it sometimes happens.
Do like this
1. uninstall kies & everything related to phone from computer.
2. backup ur external sd card data on pc with some card reader. Then format it properly. Then insert in phone. Again format from phone.
3. Restart computer. Install kies properly.
4. Connect phone in kies mode. Let computer install drivers properly.
4. If everything goes well then with card reader again fill up data in sd card. Then insert sd card in phone. Then try in mass storage mode.

Well, after getting a blue screen on my PC I then tried what most suggested: DELETE/UNINSTALL any LG driver and re-plug phone to install drivers again.
I went to uninstall programs and got rid of the LG driver there, then plugged my phone up and apparently installed two out of three files successfully. I rebooted my pc and now I plug my phone to it and two things:
1. My computer does not see the sdcard
2. My phone does not see my sd card
When I try to go with phone file manager to SD card it says.... SD card not mounted.
What to do now?
Is it mounted in the Settings > Sd card & Storage menu?
Nope...
I'm running cm7 and in the storage menu there are 3 breaks:
the first one for the SD card, second one for internal and third one to show you how much space is left in the SD card...
Well, in the 1st slot there is not card mounted but in the last one it does show how much space is left/used.... very weird if you ask me!
I will check if the sdcard is not bricked now with a sdcard reader...
well, I think the SDcard is bricked.... I put in the SD reader and connected to my pc and it is not being recognized!
UPDATE: Bought a new sdcard and I still can't mount my card to the pc? WTF!!

Have you reinstalled the LG drivers? Your PC cannot access even the SD card without those drivers.
This is why, once I upgraded past G1, I decided to not root anymore. 2.2 with a strong phone works great. I focus on being a "power user" and not a modder because, quite frankly, it takes way too much effort and the risk of messing up my phone is too great. I just don't understanding stepping out on that ice all the time, when the phone works so well without modding it beyond the user experience.
download from LG site
Hi,
Have you tried downloading and installing the latest drivers from LG website?
I couldn't connect to SD at first until I used the downloaded drivers.
No problems anymore here.

UPDATE: I have went back to eagleblood's rom and now I am able to mount my internal and external sdcards to my pc *HAPPY*
I plan on going back to CM7 and hopefully I am able to mount the cards again without the BSOD!
UPDATE: as stated earlier... I went back to CM7 and now all my f'ng drivers are messed up again...not able to mount/unmount SDcard!!
CM7 should look into this.
So i have just rooted and unlocked the phone. I am trying to put recovery on it, i put the update zip file on the root of the sd card manually by putting the sd card in my pc and transferring then tried installing it via the sammy recovery but it says no file found. When i connect via usb and select mass storage it shows the drive but when i click it, please insert removable disk.
Its a 4gb micro sd, i tried a 2gb as well
Don't confuse the SD card with the external SD card. What the file system shows as SD card is actually internal memory partitioned as a 16 gb "card" for our use. The file system shows the actual SD card that can be removed as "external_SD".

You need to start over on installing your drivers. Uninstall them from control panel, then go intoprogram files, find the folder labeled "Samsung"and delete it. Restart your computer. Now, reinstall your drivers. Make sure your USB cable is plugged into the back of your computer, not th he front. Let it go through the process of identifying your phone and installing the drivers.
i removed all the drivers but when i try to reinstall the sgh i897 drivers i get this error
samsung android usb modem driver was not installed successfully 16
Download kies, the full version not mini. After you install it, look under tools. There's an option to install drivers. Do that.
If I have my phone plugged into my computer and then unplug it, I'm not able to access my SD card from the phone without rebooting it first. So, for example, Titanium Backup only shows the Overview page.
Is there something I can do so that it automatically reconnects? If not, is there any way that I can manually reconnect the SD card to my phone without rebooting it?
BTW, this happens even when the phone is connected as "Charge Only" or if I "eject" my phone from my computer and wait till it says safe to remove.
Did you try it using another card? By the way, since the days of win xp there is no need really anymore to eject your device since windows uses write cache to copy the data.

Unfortunately, I only have the one card. Needing to reboot each time to have access the SD card again isn't working as designed is it?
Hi all,
Have been having issues since last week with my phone connectivity to the PC. I'm able to connect it to my PC and see it in my device manager but my SD Cards don't mount. But in My Computer i do see an extra CD Drive & Removable Disk populate, though they contain nothing and when I select them they ask me to insert media. I have USB Debugging turned on and just did a fresh reinstall of the drivers.
Does anyone know what might be causing this?
Thanks,
Derek

This should fix you up...
1) Power down phone
2) Remove card
3) Mount the card in a card reader on a Windows machine and have it do an error check (and automatically fix file system errors).
4) While Windows is scanning your card, boot your phone with an empty card slot and then shut it down again after the boot is complete.
5) When Windows has finished repairing the card, reinsert in phone and boot normally. If it was not a physical problem with the card it should work again.

Thanks for the suggestion! I tried it out and i'm still getting the same result. Both the internal and external sd's are getting mounted as a cd-drive and removable disk but they don't contain any information still. I tried reinstalling drivers again and it didn't help. Not sure what could be causing this issue...it's very weird.
Turn off debugging and try again. My cpu will not allow mtp mode with debugging on. Turning it off allows it to work (for me)

I flashed back to root w root66 and the re-flashed CMW and CM10. This fixed the issue, although now i'm getting greyed out connection bars on both wifi and 4g, though they're still connected. Any reasoning for this?
card stopped working randomly
not working on any card reader.
not detecting or working on any computer
not showing up anywhere in device manager of windows 7
no recovery programme is detecting the card either

unable to format it either on computer or through any phone
there is a lot of important data that i need to recover from the card
thats the only concern

this may help to recover files

Try once with this recovery software. Connect your card with computer and continue the recovery process as shown in this video.
