Does anyone know anything about T-mobile's new wifi calling known as their "[email protected]" that came out last week?

I am hoping that I can move the settings over to my Wizard...because they only offer it with two phones right now so I am hoping they release an update to the Wing with the settings so that I can put the program on my wizard. It sounds pretty cool with seamless transfer from a GSM tower to your own wifi network in your house. Plus it will save me minutes when my wife talks all day long in the house

You need to use one of their wifi phones,

It won't work!
The phone is not capable of calling via Wi-Fi, then switching to cellular. They are using a technology called UMA.
Tmobile currently has only two phones that support this.
Hopefully the gurus here can work out a hack!!!
I was on a t-mobile retail store yesterday. Asked about it while i was in there. And to confirm what everybody else has said the representative said it will not work with the MDA. Or even the Wing. It seems like an interesting idea but im not too concerned about it. I've got a decent plan with plenty of minutes and i rarely use my phone when im home anyway.

I would be glad to help in any way that I can but I have very limited experience with programing...I have taught myself everything that I know and that is very little. I think I am going to sign up tomorrow for t-mobile's UMA service and would love to test for anyone trying to port a ROM that supports UMA for the wizard
i've got 2 WM6 devices which do UMA once there released the guru's maybe able to do something...let me get the manufacturers to fix the bugs i've found first though but we'll have some WM UMA devices within 3 months.....PM me if you need more info.

NO WAY! if this is able to actually work and make my MDA have UMA i will keep this phone for close to EVER! thats the only thing lacking on my phone it has poor reception at my house

That sounds awesome. Thanks for sharing knownuser! I have never read anythig about how difficult it is to port something like this. Does anyone know that once we port something from one of these devices would it then be easy to incorperate it to other devices such as the hermes, herald, or kaiser?

UMA works by encapsulating GSM messages into IP and sending that to a modified network over wifi or bluetooth, remember this when asking about porting UMA as it rely's on GSM stack interactions that are outside of the normal modding that goes on here i'd also like to say i'll not be taking part in any of the playing (i've signed NDA's and its my livlyhood on the line) for the previous reasons i cannot mention which vendors handsets i'm testing now.

Wow! I'd like to try to help! what can I do to help? I can do some coding, but could you explain how this UMA technology converts the GSM messages into IP messages?
this is still something possible, right? I'd like to exercise my mind outside of the basic stuff we do in my AP comp sci class!

You can make your own. I have done it using trixbox with a fxo pstn card, a rom that supports voip, and a wireless router. Even works with your bluetooth headset.

backporting UMA to a wizard is not a relistic proposal guys sorry.
Would be awesome if someone could get it working. I had a nokia phone that broke that worked with @home and i always had reception no matter where i went. I bought a Kaiser thinking that since it had WiFi that it would work. silly me.

Looks like an Artamis but its it, another CECT clone of the orbit with no wifi but with built in GPS running WM5
anyone actualy bought one? I wonder if it could be upgraded in some way with a custom ROM to WM6?

This is my first time on here i've just got the CECT W800 as a christmas present and so far very happy with it. The onboard tomtom GPS works very well and it came with complete car kit and two batteries all for £138 inc postage from China. I've recently found out its a clone of the MDA Compact III, does anyone know of any other issues with this phone?
It came sim unlocked for any network and i put my virgin sim card in and it found all the correct setting for GPRS and MMS automatically.
Can anyone tell me if any of the iphone lookalike programs and skins would work with this phone pls?

those programs and skins are generaly made for windows mobile and will generaly run on all devices which run windows mobile
Does the w800 have EDGE or just GPRS data? I'm looking in to getting one shortly and I won't even bother if it only has a GPRS radio.
How's the build quality and camera? Decent?

It's only gprs. Camera - phone quality

what a shame... i could get past the bugs since SOMEONE's firmware ought to load on it but if the data is GPRS only, forget about it... too bad about it, the only other phone that I've seen that has built in GPS and doesn't cost an arm and a leg is the Pharos PTL600 for USD $469 with a $50 rebate. That's an ETEN rebrand, I believe.
the CECT w800 sounds (in theory) like a great device, is there a support website for it or does it just come out of a warehouse in Taiwan and that's it? I know CECT makes that knockoff iPhone that everyone has up on Ebay so they should be a fairly major company with at least a website.
I found cectelecom.com and qxmc.com as the Chinese and English webpages for CECT. Oddly enough, they don't list either this knockoff or the iPhone knockoff they sell. I'm going to shoot them an email and ask about the W800.

Mine works without the external airel but it may take a bit longer to find a signal without it than it does with it, usually a couple of minutes. Where do you live? I'm in the UK and got the phone for xmas and very happy with it, if you need to know anything else about this phone let me know aand i'll try help.
I have this w800 and never used it. It came with its core language in Italian, a language I neither read or understand.
Is there anyone out there with an English rom for this damned thing.

Where did you get it from? I got mine from china via ebay and came in English, tomtom satnav was in chinese but changed it in the tomtom settings. I don't how you can get the rest of it in English maybe someone on here can help. I'll look through mine see if theres any language settings on it. Did you get a user manual with it? I got English version on CD rom i could send you file if you want, let me know.

Yes, got it through Ebay from some little chinese fella who has no idea about sending a phone with the right language for the country its being used in, its driving me crazy this damned thing.
I did get the manual, yes. That at least is in english, its the phone thats in italian.

I noticed that after a hard reset the phone automatically runs a filed H3G.tsk , the phone then customises and then re-boots!
maybee all you people running Kaisers on three need to run the tsk file to be able to run it properly with the planet 3 etc...
I have attached it for you guys to try! please let me know (you could rename tsk to cab if it doesnt work)

I was thinking the same thing. It would be different if it was like 1.72 or something... especially since it's so new. But 1.27 is WAY old (and not 6.1 compatible).

I think it was a misprint because three's TyTN is only on WM 6.0
They haven't released an upgrade.

Hi 3UK sim users. I have unlocked my MDA Vario III and still with original wm6.1. I can use 3uksim for ringing in and out. If I use this 3UK rom will I be able to use 3 skype and planet 3 options. Has any one tried this?

yeah im also here for the 3 skype, im slightly worried hearing about the radio though and the fact that its wm6 and not 6.1? has anyone got anything to say about the quality of the 3UK rom/radio?
i heard skype are going to be allowing all 3g handsets to use the skype free calls offer, hope this is true...

Can we have an update in your first post in this thread as well then please. Unlike with a wiki where anyone can edit the page, you (or I guess a mod/admin person) are the only ones who can correct that. 3 UK users may be all excited seeing mention of WM 6.1, only to be disappointed when they find out it's still WM 6.0. FWIW I've found that as far as HTC TyTN II releases go, their WM 6.0 ROM/Radio combinations are superior so I can understand why 3UK don't have a WM 6.1 update (at least not here on xda-dev).
3 UK and Radio
Hi - I've upgrade to Win Mobile 6.1 (Shifu 13F) which works great, appart from not being able to hear or be heard in calls. Everything else works.
Radio is 1.27.15.32 (the original one I think) Is there not another radio that will work with this and other 6.1 roms? What is different about the 3 radio and others? Does this mean that those of us on 3 cannot use cooked roms?

Found a solution!!!!
I upgraded my radio to 1.70.18.02 and all works fine now, camera, sound and calls! Going to try it with a Win 6.5 rom soon as well!

Hey guys im from the uk and i use 3 UK pay as you go sim in my lovely kaiser, i can access 3 planet to check my balance and free stuffs, ive got installed Dutty's 6.1 rom, it recognised sim and also changed the network settings at setup so that i could use internet and access planet 3. One other thing i use the 1.70.19.09 radio, its pretty good, camera works, call quality is perfect no problems whatsover, GPS very responsive

i have just gotten hold of a 3 sim and i'm trying to access planet 3 services but without the certs included in the official 3 rom i am getting nowhere fast! can anyone offer some advice? do i need to decompile the 3 stock rom and rip the certs from there? any help would be appreciated! I heard mention of a cab called SDKCerts which may be exactly what i need - all i really want is the skpe installer from 3 so the data used for skype calls is free rather than being taken from my usage allowance (3 customer services have confirmed this is what will happen if i use skpe's own installer of the skype app!!!)

Just thought Id let you know that I recently got my WOWPad, and except for a few software glitches, after a bit of tinkering with, have now been able to:
1: Put on a 128GB Memory stick (yes GB not MB)
2: Run internet from my USB 3G Stick, with broadband speed, not GPRS
Im currently in the UK, and internet access is through Vodafone.
I will put on here at some stage the tools and guide on what i did to get it running

Same boat.. countless bug after bug.. would be great if we could get everything we needed to roll our own rom for this device. These god damn chinatab makers wanna sell ya trash, then flat out refuse to release the sources needed to make your purchased trash useful...
Seems not much pride has been taken in the OS port.. But hey, what can you expect from people working for half a grain of rice a day..

Bit annoyed to be told that *UMA will not work on my O3d because i dont have the firmware from orange (i got mine from Phone4U unbranded)
I have no reception at home.
If somebody has a copy of the Orange firmware with UMA please let me know i can provide upload space if needed,
If i am able to source UK Orange Firmware, would anybody mind helping me through the process of installing it and ripping a certain application out of it for me otherwise things are going to get messy but i dont mind to much either way as long as i can get it working.

Maybe u can extract Orange rom and put specific .apk to your phone??
that is my plan but at the moment i have no idea what the APK is or what it is called.
i will try that first to see if it is horribly simple but i presume i will need to brand my phone :/

But it wouldnt install on my device using Clockwork.
No error log either so i dont know why.
I don't think you're supposed to flash using CWM. The download page says to see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1244490 for the proper procedure.

Back on UMA again after loads of other crap needed sorting.
Got the APK but like many others it just FC's and after see'ing others posts regarding the matter i am afraid i will be not continuing as it is beyond my level and im am moving home in 10 days
