[Q] Problem with Juice Defender and installing Apps - HTC Desire S

Hello,
after i have installed Juice Defender, I can't install more Apps with a Fileexplorer anymore.
The Installbutton is there but I can't press it.
When Juice Defender is turned off, everything works correctly.
Has anyone some idea how to fix it?

Anyone who can reproduce this problem?

Uninstall Juice Defender!
In my opinion apps like this is not important!

For me JD works and brings me a lot of power endurance.
So uninstalling can't be the solution.

I have the same problem, did you find a fix?

I saw a comment on JD website that says that the issue is caused by brightness setting. There should be "installer workaround" with JD's logo to choose from when you are to install something (with the other option being "package installer").
If you don't see the option and you have the problem of not being able to click the "install" button, try to disable brightness setting or clear defaults for default installer.

Try 3GBattery then.

[Q] Package installer won't work... can't press button

I just upgraded to cm7 and now sometimes when I try to install an app from an apk file it wont let me hit the install button.
If I am using Amazon appstore it works, the same type of screen comes up and I can install stuff. But when installing from a downloaded apk (like from here) the button just doesn't work... it isn't greyed out or anything but is simply unresponsive.

Hey I have this same problem, did you ever figure out this issue? Thanks!
Please let me know if anyone knows how to fix this issue, I'm having the same problem
Bump this
Problem persists on my phone as well. Brand new Droid X2 stock ROM rooted with zergrush kit including busybox, superuser, and recently installed: nobloat free, droidwall, SD Booster, blade buddy, spare parts+, and setcpu (which is pretty much useless without a custom ROM that has the kernel to support it)
Edit: make sure unknown sources is checked under app settings =]
Edit again: NOPE still a problem =[
Edit again: FIGURED IT OUT!!!! Simply turn off your screen filter! =D (I don't know why, but that WAS my problem 100%)
Hi all, I'm facing the same problem, but I don't have screen filter installed. What else have you tried?
Here's my main post about this.
I've also heard that Juice Defender can cause this problem. Sadly, like you, I still can't fix it on my phone!
Anyone?
AHA! I found mine! TEAM Battery Bar. It's a spectacular app; if you've not gotten it yet, I highly recommend it. I just turned it off within the app itself, (I checked running apps to give me a clue,) and the installer button worked.
After hearing about several display-related apps causing the problem, I looked for those on my phone. TEAM Battery Bar does indeed run a constant display item, so I think that's the key. I'll notify the dev. He's pretty responsive.
I can confirm: disabling TEAM Battery Bar solve the problem! thanks

Thanks, that fixed my problem on my Galaxy S2 with LPQ ICS rom. Probably should report it to the dev for fixing...
in my case Juice Defender was a problem, since I don't have any screen filters installed
uninstalling Juice Defender fixed my phone
EDIT Friend of mine has the same phone (SGS2) with the same ROM installed, JD never caused any problems with his phone
The only difference between my JD settings and his - I got brightness control enabled, so maybe that was a problem, not JD itself

I'm currently on SGS2 rooted stock LPQ and just figured it out myself that Screen Filter is actually doing something so that the install button cant be pressed. Has anyone informed the dev?
Edit: just mailed the dev of Screen Filter hoping for confirmation and fix
'Lux Auto Brightness' is causing the same issue, so seems that all the applications trying to adjust screen brightness will cause the issue.
By the moment I disable it, I am able again to install apks... really weird
Also, not clear why only the install button is effectively disabled, as cancel bitton works and the 'show all perms' drop down , also works

Good call! That was the exact app that was causing me problems as well. Here's hoping to a quick fix!

i encountered the same issue and after reading your post and searching hard on my n7000, i finally found what causes it...on my n7000 it was glove box. After uninstalling my phone is back to normal again

Thanks for all the infos, guys. For me, it was both Lux Auto Brightness and Twilight. I disabled them using task manager and everything went smoothly from that. Explains why no matter how much I reboot, it doesn't fix things. I also have avast Mobile Antivirus installed and it has a constant display notification but it doesn't cause any issues. I am guessing it has something to do with code wired to the phone's hardware? As all the apps causing problems had to do with overlapping device setting control over screen brightness or hue.

[guide]Package Installer will not install apk's - Cancel works but not Install button

I practically ran into the same problem as outlined above. Since googling for this issue was not straightforward, I thought it wise to make the answer to this issue into a micro-guide.
I can no longer install apps (apk's) from the Amazon App Store, or from downloaded apk files, but the market works fine.
I am not rooted, and I am still running 3.2 (US). This started in the last few days, but I can't think of anything that I have done.
I cold booted, but I still get the same results; The install dialog box comes up with the options at the bottom "Install" or "Cancel", however, install does nothing, the window is active because you can press "Show All", or "Cancel" and those do work, but not "Install". I can't think of anything that I have overlooked.
Any Ideas?

The most a) likely solution comes in the form of b) security applications interfering with the installation, c) package incompatibility with the device or screen filter applications used to lower the device's brightness below the minimal limit of the Brightness settings.
In my case it was the application "Lux" which was to blame. Thus make sure to untick "stay alive in the "generals" option menu. And kill the Lux app. Now installation proceeds unhindered. Avast was not at fault. So don't freak,- often the solutions are trivial - finding the answers isn't.
Thanks to anyone who contributed in the original thread and to xda.
Oh man, thanks for this! For me, it was the app 'Screen Adjuster' that was blocking apps from being installed. I turned that off, and I finally have an ad blocker again!

Re: Install apk problem - install button not working
If not already done:
Settings -> Apps -> All -> Package Installer Clear Cache & Data, Force Stop, reboot. If this doesn't work repeat, but reboot into recovery and wipe the cache partition.
Still having issues try AppInstaller. Still having issues, there must be a bad system app (frameworks?) that needs clearing and force closed.
100% work
Thank you so much! I was about to tear my hair out in frustration! I had tried everything! But this never occured to me.
I had this inssue too. It's problem with apps which work in background and creating some overlay elements. Disable all this apps and than you can install normally. I had this problem on P.A.C. Rom, after addition of HALO
Sorry for my bad english
Was having trouble installing APKs. The 'install' button was not working. Turning off halo fixed problem.
Another app causing the issue
Velis Auto brightness.
Too bad, because I liked this app. If anyone knows of an app like that that does not cause the issue, I would appreciate the name.

Removing softbuttons light from domenico Messina resolved my problem.
It's Obvious that you have to look for a installed app that does something with youre screen.
succes
For me it was Zulu's Droidmote server

My was the Easy Eye. It overlays screen element to minimize blue LED.
For me it was JuiceDefender Ultimate. I turned off its brightness control function and I could install apk's. That's odd. After installation I turned it on again, because this function is doing a good job and I love JuiceDefender.
However, thank you for your guide! :good:
unable click install button solved.

Thanks for this insightful post OP! I never would have thought something this simple could cause this problem. Night Mode was causing the same issue for me as this guy.
Thank you so much!
I'm having the same problem since the KitKat update, but I don't know what could be causing it. Please help

Juice Defender disabling the install button for new app installs

I have noticed a number of times now that I will download an app and its installer will run but when I get to the screen where I have to click either the "install" button or the "cancel" button, that the "install" button does not work. It has no effect and doesn't highlight - just seems completely dead. The "cancel" button always still works when this happens.
It has happened for apps being installed or updated from play and it has also happened on sideloaded or other apps - like my non-play version of tasker which just had an update to download and install. Downloaded just fine, "install" button non-functional. Rebooted the phone, went to the Download folder and launched the apk - now the install button works fine! WTF?!
This is very annoying. The same thing has happened trying to install some apps directly from google play. It will download and start the install, but when it comes time to click the install button - it doesn't work. Reboot the phone, go back to google play, and now it will install properly.
Is anyone else seeing this? How common is it? My phone is rooted, but everything else is stock.
Install button problem
I had this problem with "Turn off the screen" app. However, that's the only one so far
Just happened again - that's about 6 times today
I've been trying lots of apps on my new nexus 5, so lots of installs. From the tasker site, I downloaded two icon packs to the Download directory. I'm using es explorer to look at the details of the two apk files. When I click on them, I get the screen that shows me the applications access and asks me if I want to install it. The install button at the bottom does nothing, the cancel button works as expected.
Now I'm going to reboot - and experience tells me I will then be able to install them both...
Interesting - I was able to install the first icon apk, but not the second one. So installing the first one is causing some sort of state change, or something else started later in the phone's start up process to block it. Rebooting again and waiting this time for everything that starts on boot to start...
That was unexpected - I still can't install it. Going to try rebooting again and trying to install it earlier...
Alright, that seems to be the key. I was able to install it multiple times but eventually the install buttton stopped working.
I started killing applications and trying to install the apk after each app quit. I traced it to Juice Defender Ultimate, which is a surprise. I can disable Juice from its menu, keeping it loaded, and the install works. When I click the enable button in Juice, the install button for the apk immediately stops working.
I will continue searching and experimenting and report back my results. Have any other Juice Defender users noticed the problem?
Juice defender is a crap app. Don't use it, it'll only make matters worse for your battery.
I agree, it's not worth using it. Anyway when I used it some time ago I also had this problem, it's linked to the brightness control, so you need to disable it before every installation. They also have a fixed installer app that automatically disable auto brightness before install and then enable if after it finished. If your phone don't ask what app you want to use to install then clear the default app settings and choose the fixed installer next time.

I have removed Juice Defender
Thanks for your reply. I had also noticed some unexpected changes in screen brightness with juice defender and will be interested to see if that also disappears now that it's gone.
I also own tasker so I'm looking at using that to save power by changing the phone settings in various ways.
Thanks for the input! It's a strange problem that the cancel button works but the install button doesn't.

Get betterbatterystats to see what wake locks are keeping your device awake. That's the best way to get good battery life. It can take a little figuring but once you know what's causing the problem you can start to address it
It isn't a problem. When an app like juice defender or screen filter or lux auto brightness controls your brightness, they use an overlay to make it look like your screen is getting darker than it can. The overlay, since it covers the entire screen without you noticing, also disables the install button. This is a security feature implemented BY GOOGLE to keep an overlay app with malicious intent from being able to hit the install button and installing things without you knowing.
THIS IS NOT A BUG

Accessibility access not working for certain apps

So I followed the advice of someone on reddit who said booting into safe mode then back to normal helps with battery life. So I did, and now nova launcher and Greenify lost accessibility privileges and when I try to turn them on the "turn on" button doesn't work (only "cancel" works"). I've tried restarting, looking through developer settings, etc but can't find out what changed. Any ideas?

Are you using Lux by any chance? If so, try disabling this as had the same issue but now works without a problem.
Wow I was using lux. I actually ended up factory resetting because of this issue and coincidentally decided not to install lux again, and I haven't had the problem since. How the hell did you figure that out? Lol
Do you use anything to control brightness instead of lux now?

I was just playing around with things and somehow just stumbled upon it. I am just using the buil-in auto brightness which seems to work pretty well. Glad it worked for you too.
Same problem, same fix
Uninstalled lux, changed settings, reinstalled lux.
Same problem on non-root S5 but no Lux or Twilight. And ideas?

Anyone using Pandora successfully?

I find my Pandora app to auto close when I turn the screen off. Always at first. AFter a relaunch or 2, it may stay. But if it is not the app in the foreground, it is even worse.
Been fighting this ever since I got the phone.
I do have it set to NOT close with screen off in the battery settings. I've uninstalled/reinstalled; tried deleting cache. Still no good.
Anyone else having this issue?
