Hi guys
I have the Motorola XOOM uk version its wifi only with the ota 3.1 update.... I am keen to root it as I have a rootec smart phone and can see the benefits.. trouble is I have read simply dozens of different tutorials about unlocking the bootloader, rooting, one click root etc but whenever I come across another tutorial I find reviews that state it bricked their tablet.
Does anyone have the same version of XOOM that I have and has actually successfully rooted it? If so which tutorial did you follow? I really need an easy to understand version....I really don't want to brick my new XOOM....you understand
thank you guys
Phil

I used that exact same method on my UK MZ604 (WiFi) and it went without a hitch.
Just be sure and follow the instructions exactly and make sure you have adb connection to Xoom before you start. Obviously, you'll need the SDK files.
I unlocked the bootloader and rooted it with no problems!! Fantastic now have custom rom flashed. Yeehaa

Sorry meant to mention I have a 3G Xoom. Does that update work for 3G or only WiFi Xooms?

Quoted from posted thread:
IMPORTANT NOTE: This update is for the US Xoom Wi-Fi MZ604 with Android 3.1 ONLY!!! As of v05 of this update, the update script performs NO CHECKS of files before flashing rooted stock 3.2 system and boot images. This means it won't stop you from flashing on a Xoom 3G; it will just flash and you're left with the mess, if any. Please proceed only if you're tech-savvy with Android and the Xoom, ready to restore to stock 3.1 in case of issues, and good at troubleshooting. Please provide feedback and corrections, and I'll update the post as quickly as I can. Thanks!

Why not just flash one of the Tiamat 3.2 Roms? Easy way to get the best of all possible worlds, since you're already rooted.
Hi all,
After much debate between the Infinity, Prime and TF300 I settled on getting a TF300T. It's new out of the box and is charging up right this minute.
I am coming from a Motorola Xoom which I had rooted running EOS JB ROM and TWRP Recovery.
I've been having a look through the TF300T forums and I see that the general advice seems to be not to be not to upgrade OTA until I have rooted and unlocked, is this correct?
I have seen SparkyRoot but was wondering lso what is the best and easiest method for rooting ? I am in the UK so I guess I have to make sure I find instructions etc for the UK version?
I am not looking to install any custom ROMs yet, I want to see how the stock goes for now. I am interested in getting it rooted though because I have apps like Titanium, Sixaxis Controller which need root privileges.
I guess you guys in this corner of the forum will be seeing more of me now that I have a TF300T. I will see how I get on with this tablet for a week or two before I finally ditch and sell my trusty old Xoom.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm assuming you have not taken the jb update. Here's what happened to me...
I was on ICS. I rooted using the debugfs method, in the Dev section. I took the jb update and thanks to ota rootkeeper I was able to restore root with no issue. I had to wipe data shortly after to resolve a problem. That caused me to lose root permission, and I couldn't get it back without unlocking and using step 3 of the jb root guide, in the general section.
I'm now on stock jbwith an unlocked bootloader, twrp recovery, root, and a couple of tiny mods from the Dev section. I consider having twrp much better than maintaining the warranty because you can easily do full backups, and flash things like mods and root. Hope this helps you.

I have rooted my TF300 first then I was on ICS.
I have used [ROOT][TOOL]Debugfs automated root v1.9 - update 7/2/2012 - Prime & TF300t by sparkym3
and after I have backuped my root with OTA rootkeeper - free version.
I have checked my root with Root Checker-Free version.
I have updated my device on JB by OTA without problem.
Restored my root with OTA rootkeeper.
And finally, I have unlocked my TF300 with Asus tool: UnLock_Device_App_V7.apk
Restored my root with OTA Rootkeeper.
Installed TWRP Recovery, which is for my part, the recovery which is more stable
And actually, I'm on [ROM] Asus Custom Rom - JB Overclock Edition V01
If you want to know more, click on my sig and go to see the index for TF300
Awesome thanks guys
It's finished charging now, I've turned it on but disabled wifi so I don't get any OTA updates.
Looking at my build number it says: IML7K.WW-epad-9.4.3.26-20120416
I seen some guides where the build number was important, I'll go back and double check.
I'll check out those links Phil. Going to make sure I read everything properly as I don't want to end up bricking my new toy

Looking at the links Philos64 posted it looks quite straightforward, glad to see TWRP on the TF300 as I loved that recovery on my Xoom

Hello again,
Looking at debug automated root its says supported version: v9.4.3.30 for the TF300T (ICS 4.0.3)
Seeing as my build number said 9.4.3.26 do I have to update my tab first?
Just want to make sure I don't balls this thing up so early lol
Thanks again for all your help

Do I just do an OTA update to get it up to 9.4.3.29? I guess there will be a succession of small updates and as long as I stop on that one?
Sorry for having so many questions.. don't mean to be a nag lol

So, you can stop the OTA updates at v9.4.3.30
Thanks Philos64 shall do it now... will report back later with the results.
Big thank you coming your way

All so far so good...rooted and all backed up, just waiting for the JB update to download now.
Just one more thing? I was looking at TWRP and I was wondering how to install it? I know that on my xoom I already had CWM installed and just ran the file from recovery which gave me TWRP but how can I do that with the TF300T? On the TWRP website it says about 2 options:
Install Fastboot Method & Install ADB / Terminal method...both of which I have never done before. Is it easy to do as long as I follow the instructions?
Thanks again
Well everything went well, I got root access which confirmed with root checker, done a backup of my root and installed the Jelly Bean update but then Root backup lost my backup

Then you'll need to unlock the bootloader and follow the guide in the general section to get it back. For twrp, go find links to the twrp site in the Dev section. They have install instructions on the twrp site. Again, you must unlock the bootloader to install it.

So if I unlock my boot loader I can then root? I don't mind voiding my warranty.

That is brilliant news! After reading the forums here i thought that now I was on Jellybean I had lost the ability to root. I guess a lot of people don't want to void their warranty by unlocking their bootloader. I had to do the same thing with my xoom.
I will give this a try sometime this week

Oh god please help me!
-- Have Droid RAZR Maxx HD on Verizon
-- Was rooted on 4.1.1
-- Followed instructions on here to keep root while upgrading to 4.1.2
-- Mistake I seem to have made ---> took the upgrade from the Motorola Utility when connected to PC instead of OTA
-- Now when I go to Voodoo ... there is no option to restore root!
Please god help me ... I really need root... :crying::crying::crying:
Any kind soul have a step by step instructions for me to get root back??
Need to be a little more specific on your device brand. Like if your on the xt926 consumer edition like me then your stuck on 4.1.2 because u can't downgrade ur firmware to go back to ICS and get root.
However dev editions or other variants may be able to obtain root again.

Frock that's what I thought but was holding out a little hope. Yes XT926. This blows ... so that WAS the mistake? Not doing the OTA update and instead the connecting to PC and doing it from the Moto utility?? I assumed it's the same thing so wasn't careful about that.
Thanks.

BTW .. why is rooting Motorola such a pain ... I love this phone for it's battery life but I may go back to Samsung phones ... at least there it's crazy easy to root, change roms, etc.
Rooting Motorola is such a pain because of the locked boot loader IMO. I have root because instead of flashing the new update I used voodo and took it strictly ota with my 4.1.1 rooted device.

So, please, make me understand...
Ok, so, let me see if i understood:
there is no way to root JB...
BUT... developers r trying to, is it right?
so.... or we try a crazy thing getting back to ICS with a really complicated rule to follow or we wait for a good friend here who can give us a root for JB?
Is it right? Cause if i am wrong, if there is a way to root JB, please, let me know.
My phone uses 700 MB of RAM with softwares i use not, i want to put it all off from my phone, but they r from the ROM VIVO Brazil...
Help, please?

Bit of background...I've had Android phones since the OG Droid. All of them were rooted. The phone I have now is the Razr HD which I've never rooted. Guess I just got out of the game for a while. I want to root it now but unfortunately, it's been so long since I've been around the forums that I don't really know what anything is anymore or what does what.
I'm sure this has been asked before but every search I do, I come up with stuff that I don't understand. Can someone help out?
Phone is running 4.4.2
System version: 183.46.15.XT926
Thanks!
If your boot loader is locked, you can't do anything.

Abstract: you wanna root your Motorola Razr HD (xt925) ?
You can't go anymore with the "gentle procedure" - which is using Motochopper, a way to root the 4.1.2 without tearing apart your phone.
So either you go back with a stock 4.1.2 and live happily with motochopper and a slow sys, or you follow Motorola instructions to unlock the phone. Be aware that once you enter the code Motorola will provide you'll void your warranty (if you still are under the grace period).

You need to stop putting bad info out there, this unlock only works on the 925. The system version he shows is FW for the 926. You can't unlock the 926 via Moto.

The 925 is the GSM variant and is unlockable through Moto. The 926 is the CDMA model that is typically used on Verizon and it's not unlockable through Moto.

Hi, RikRong. I'm also new to this XT926 and on the latest firmware I guess (183.46.15.xt926), is there's any new way to unlock bootloader and root this device? I read an old instruction in another post and just bought this device and now I'm so screwed over .
