[CLOSED][KERNEL][UPDATE: 05/24/2012] bKernel-v2.3 & bKernel-CM7-v2.3 - 2.6.32.59[CLOS
Thread closed because I no longer own this device. The download links no longer work. Sorry for any inconvenience.

So it's time for my dumb question of the day. Does this work on CM7?

Nah sorry it doesn't. I may try to make a CM7 version but I don't know yet. I don't use CM so I don't build for it. All my stuff will be stock ROM based unless otherwise noted!

Alrighty. I can accept that. I'm trying to find the best and most stable ROM at the moment for my girlfriend. Preferably one that has wifi tethering but By the sounds of it it is a ***** on this phone.

Hey idk if you know this or not but I was talking to purple today about my phone and one of then said well thank good the stock kernel has iptables. I asked more about it and it's what let's my phone do wireless tethering. He said it isn't to hard to add into a kernel if you have the source, another I don't know.about this phone. But if you have the source for this kernel and want to take a shot at it then you could add that into this kernel. Just my thoughts on it. Also, how is everything coming on this. If the Dev for cm leaves I can't leave my girlfriends phone on a ROM not being supported anymore.

Posted a CM7 version, based off Tickerguy's latest CM7 kernel(found in Beta 7!!)

A new stockROM version of bKernel released. It's DEV-0.23!

Added a new CM7 version with updates from my last StockROM version release. It's super fast!!

Added a EXT3 stock ROM version of bKernel-DEV-0.23 for those of you who are worried about data corruption when using EXT2.

Added CM7-DEV-0.4 version that fixes WiFi hotspot issue on Tickerguy's latest beta build of CM7

Working great so far! I flashed this within minutes after it was posted with the WiFi fix. Running @ 1.5Ghz since I flashed it with no problems. I have profiles set-up in SetCPU to knock the MAX down when the screen turns off and I'm 86% after 3.5 hours of moderate use. WiFi tether is working fine with no issues so far.
Thanks again b_randon! You saved me from the horror of stock on my Intercept and I thank you for that as well!

Ha lol yeah what was your username on SDX? I guess I developed quite a reputation when working on the intercept. I wish I had more time free because I need to release a new intercept ROM and I would like to build a kernel for it as well, but I just have to much stuff to do as it is right now lol!
As long as people continue to like my stuff, I will keep releasing more and more lol!

Same username as on here

I didn't post much on the forums unless I had a problem or a question. I am more of a lurker because I still consider myself a NOOB and don't want to ruffle peoples feathers. I'll tell you though, I was flipping back and forth between the three new phones on VM and I chose the Triumph because I saw that you were dev'ing for it. Anyway...enough of that.
I have noticed, after using it for a day or so, that the hotspot will intermittently turn off and on. The thing is that I didn't test the hotspot significantly prior to flashing your kernel so I don't know if it was just that way after the CM7 0.8 update or after flashing your kernel.
I will test it some more in the next few days and maybe re-flash CM7 0.8 without your kernel to see if the hotspot bug is still there. I'll let you know.

WiFi Tether Working Fine
I just wanted to give you an update on my WiFi testing.
Apparently, the WiFi tether issues I was having as stated in my earlier post were just anomalous. Since then I have tested it a few times and seem to have no more problems.
Thanks again for your AWESOME work and I look forward to any further work you do for this phone.
BTW...If you have the time, check out this link to my problem over on SDX and see if you can help out at all or have any ideas.

Installed this kernel and really like it, hopefully more enhancements will be added in the future. Just one minor thing I'd like is to be able to set frequency for OC/UC from within CM7's settings menu. Thanks.
UPDATE: Noticed it uses more battery just idling in airplane mode than TheOC, about 1-2%/hr vs <0.5%/hr. Going back to that one, the MT is fast enough for me, so battery life is more important.

Updated to stock rom version 0.24-DEV and CM7 version 0.5-DEV. OP updated

Updated to v1.01

I have update the FroYo kernel to v2.0!! I promise its the fastest kernel available for FroYo. I have patched the sources up to the Linux kernel 2.6.32.59 which is as high as you can go in the 2.6.32 kernel. I am still working on getting my CM7 kernel updated and I haven't got to test it yet on the new CM7 builds, but I will!!
Enjoy!!

I have just updated both kernels. The FroYo is at v2.2 and the CM7 kernel is a v1.4. They both include the same changes, and they both run very good.
I have flashed the CM7 one to g60's latest CM7 and it works fine, and it should work on any flavor of CM7.
I have flashed the FroYo kernel to bROM and the stock ROM and they both booted up fine. I have not been able to reproduce the hang at the splash screen that some of you all are experiencing on the stock ROM, but I am trying to recreate it so I can figure out what is happening. This latest kernel should flash fine, but if not, know that I am still trying to figure out what is causing it!
I changed zRam around a bit, and now it is setup by default with a disksize of around 96 mb, which I run 100 mb, but now all you should have to do is call mkswap on /dev/zram0 (on the FroYo kernel) and zRam should work fine!
Hope everyone enjoys the new kernels, and keep on the lookout for CM7 bROM edition, its in the works right now!!

im in love the the CM7 kernel =]

[GINGERBREAD] Android 2.3 port from SDK for 32A/NR.

I made it for fun and it is NOT usable and will not be before we get official source
http://saraev.ca/signed_120810_223045.zip
working:
- data/radio (no incall microphone)
- wifi
not working: everything else
please do not report bugs. I know whats not working but can fix NOTHING for now
Good job. IMO these ports will be unusable for the next few months until cyanogen comes up with a release.
It was like that with eclair and later froyo. History tends to repeat itself.
Woot Woot, Hopefully once we get the source this can become stable. The magic lives on. Not many froyo builds I tried for the 32a werent that easy on battery life. Hopefully this turns out good. Hope the devs will work together to create a stable rom, instead of having their own builds with pros and cons.
If 2.3 ever starts working on 32A + NR, I am jumping ship asap! I miss vanilla android

I would have to agree with you except for I think I read on Cyanogen's twitter page that they will NOT be supporting first gen devices after CM6.1 which I assume meant NO ported 2.3 for us.
Hopefully I am wrong.
where is that quote? can't see it
good job!!!!!!!! hahahahaha
Did anyone1 tried on OR and cm Bcrook kernel???
i want to make a team for dev this rom to work full on magic..contact me..
nice hopefully it will fully work
Download does not work?
Really impressive work Hope to see this fully working.
what changes are needed for this to boot on 32b?
This is all well and good and I'll try it if I get my repaired phone back and can once again have a spare to play with.
However is it reasonable to expect this to ever be usable? We don't seem to be able to get a fully working 2.2 under the new radio so why would 2.3 ever get enough attention or drivers? I used 2.2 for a long time on the old radio but I really needed to use the new radio and have since gone back to 2.1 since it is now my daily driver again.
This will be great fun once I can put the Magic back to dev use.
I tested this on my g1, with a pershoots kernel over top so that it boots. And I was wondering how you got wifi to work? I tried replacing many things, but still get an error starting wifi supplicant daemon on logcat.
Just curious, not like I expect anything to ever become usable haha

hm did you replace wlan.ko ? you should
also take a look at init.sapphire.rc:
Ive changed wpa_supplicant service a little because wlan_loader is not used as in eclair/froyo roms. my *wpa_supplicant.exec* loads the firmware and then starts *real* wpa_supplicant.
I realy dont have an idea whether firmware & tiwlan.ini are different for trout/sapphire. if they are you can edit wpa_supplicant.exec to load propper firmware files..
EDIT: this will not be usable untill we get gingerbrad sources published by google. then maybe cyanogen will do a build for us. I heard he will not support sapphire/trout anmore and if and *only if* it is true I will try to make a working one. I hope it isn't true and cyanogen will still suport our devices because he can do it better than me for sure

Anyone done any work porting this? I'm currently working to compile this for my fender. Hopefully with the new radio. Which I've read doesn't work, so... anyone found a working one? I'm running eclipse to compile but if you'd like to help, let me know what you use and I'll send you what I've got.

[Q] Cyanogen mod 7 RC2 With Savage Zen Kernel

--I hope somebody else has tried this mixture as well; I know a few have, and 1 person I seen on the internet said it was a good match and WIMAX worked fine.
--When I installed Savage Zen (The newest GB version) to my Evo4G with CyanogenMod7 - RC2, I had a few problems; but the primary problem I had was: WIMAX was NOT working. It worked at first (for maybe a minute or 2), then it turned off; I turned it back on, it connected, and then it turned off after something like 10 seconds.... I rebooted, did a battery pull, tried quite a few things and it kept doing that. Later that day it stopped connecting completely. When I hit "connect", it just said 'connecting', or 'Finding'.... cant remember exactly sorry, but It would just stay like that, and nothing would happen.
--Eventually I just re flashed CM7 RC2 and stayed with the original kernel and now WIMAX works fine; as far as I can see....
--I was wondering if anybody out there 'had the same problem'; 'didn't have the same problem'; or most importantly "'why it happened' and/or 'how to fix it'"? -AND if there are any Kernels that somebody would recommend with CM7 RC2 EVO4G that keeps WIMAX Working? Thanks Ahead of time to Anybody and Everybody that helps me out with this.
THANK YOU!!
What version of the kernel are you running?
I had the same problem. I was using the lastest version on Savage's website. Non-sbc, though. My 4g was crippled. I had to revert to stock CM7 RC2's kernel to get 4g working again. However, for some reason, when I tether it wireless, it slooowwssss down. The speed is great on the phone itself. Well over 6 mb's down. But tethering is another story.
What do you think I should do?
Ok.... I used the gb "bfs" I think it was called. (U know it started with BS) when I first installed cm7 rc2 the newest savage Zen version made the wimax and wifi not work.
Then there was a new savage Zen that released on March 15th: I again installed the "bfs" version(brain f#@% version), it even had wimax in the name so I thought it would fix the problem..... when I first installed it, it worked PERFECTLY, then 30 minutes later wifi and wimax stopped working again.
PLEASE HELP! I miss the battery life of savage Zen!!! What's the problem??
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Ok so far I 'think' i "may" have gotten it to work by using the cfs version of savaged-zen instead of bfs.... (When I 1st installed the cfs version, the wifi and wimax worked fine just like the bfs version, and just like the bfs version after about 30 minutes wifi and wimax stopped working; but UNLIKE the bfs version, when I rebooted my phone with the cfs version, wifi and wimax work again[hopefully everybody followed that]. So we will see)
Hopefully i don't have to reboot my phone every 30 minutes to have wifi and wimax to work!! Thanks to everybody who helped; and good luck to everybody that needed help (Like there were SO many replies on this thread)(So far.........)
Any updates on this today? Thank You.
I can't get there new versions to work

+ 1 Had a blast on it for a few hours, it's a nice rom.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Nice rom but I found it to be a bit slow, was I buggin out?
I actually downloaded this rom (I have the Nexus S for AT&T) last night and i'm about to wipe device and flash a new one. The app drawer takes forever to load and it seems like a pretty consistent problem. I have rebooted and done a battery pull and still same issue. Also the theme comes with a custom lockscreen and I have yet to see an option to disable or change it so that I may use widgetlocker. As of right now I have widgetlocker and I have to unlock 2xs along with password which is a pain.
I will say that it is pretty zippy in all aspects. The internet loads very quickly. The apps switch very quickly. When composing text messages the keyboard responds very quicky. The messages send very quickly. However the app drawer not loading is what seals the deal for me. I came from MIUI the latest build is 1.8.26 and had the previous 2 builds before that and I had an issue of my service dropping in and out until I did a reboot. I searched around and there were a handful of others that had the same problem. I love the rom and the ability for customizations however I need my device functioning over beauty.
If others have downloaded this rom, I would love to hear feedback on thier experience on it.
Have you tried v2? It's only recently been released.
It looks and feels great BUT I can't get my wifi to work.
The devs site says the ROM doesn't include radio so I assume this is why my wifi isnt working? I have I9020 and based in UK and KD1 and KB3 don't make the wifi work. Does anyone have any ideas how I can enable wifi?
Thanks

To get your wifi working try downloading a different kernel. The kernel controls the wireless module in the phone. You may want to download a few so if your phone doesn't boot up with one kernel you can also do a battery pull then reboot back into clockwork recovery and try a different kernel. Try a netarchy Cfs 2.3.4 aosp or universal kernel or a matrix kernel. The netatchy cfs 2.3.4 aosp kernel will probably work best. This is in the genexus toolbox on the market for free to download and then you just have to flash through clockwork.

[ROM][CM7][Latest Nightly][8APR]

Hello everyone:
I've used quite a few of the ROMs on here, so I thought I'd give back what I can.
Because CM has quit putting out nightlies for us, I used lithid's CMCompiler to build the latest CM7 ROM for our Evos.
Some caveats to these builds:
- I have done no actual coding. I just took the time to download, compile, and make it available to y'all. I take no credit for any of the work.
- Standard disclaimers apply - not my fault for anything that might happen to your phone.
- You can ask me to troubleshoot, and I will try to help, but I do not claim any expertise other than I've been doing this for a while.

If you have a build older than the 4th I can get you the md5 if you need it. Otherwise - upgrade it! =)
EDIT: I've been drinking a little bit so I'm gonna toot my own horn:
this is fastest, smoothest, most efficient version of CM I've ever flashed and I've been using for over a year and half. GPS locks in seconds, battery will last 24 hours on light-medium usage, and 4G is flawless. The only thing that I haven't been able to test is bluetooth but as far as I can tell CM has always been a little wonky with that so take it or leave it. #hahawoo
EDIT2: I will update this ROM every few days and update this post with the latest.
EDIT3: BLUETOOTH IS ****ING AWESOME
Works Great
Just flashed this over the latest #256 nightly and didnt have any problems. Thanks
Just as I finished installing the repo yesterday, lol. Good job.
Put this on the cm7 thread but was wondering if anyone knows how to get the honeycomb lockscreen on this rom. I know its possible just can't remember how. All help is much appreciated
Look in cyanogenmod settings-lockscreen settings. Find minimal ring style and that should get you what you are looking for. Here is my layout.

You know... I sh** you not, but this is the fastest version of any Cyanogen ROM I have ever used on my Evo. Smooth as ever. I'm using the stock kernel, though. Flashing SavagedZen 2.2.0 CFS leads to boot loops and Taimat 3.3.7 has turrets syndrome, lol.
My only prob with this rom so far is how long it takes to load a2sd when i restart it. 7.1 ran and loaded up rather quickly around 30 sec this one seems sluggish. I have about 165 apps but this rom ranges from 2-3 min at least. Not horrible just weird this one takes 4-6x longer
Works great....Thanks for compiling.

anyone having issues with skype video calling and cm7? it hasn't worked for me and i'm not sureif its cm7 or skype, but it works fine on my cm9 galaxy tab, idk.
Thanks for updating it for us,keep it coming!
Thanks. This is the first build of CM7 (2.3.7) I haven't had trouble with. I had everything up to 2.3.4 working beautifully but had gone back to sense ROMs because every time I loaded anything AOSP 2.3.5 and above I'd get 1 or 2 problems that were extremely inconvenient (IE: No GPS, Data connection on 3G wouldn't work, stuff like that).
I've been testing this for a few hours and while I don't want to jinx anything, it seems to be 100%. GPS locked on really fast, stable data connection, AOSP speed.
Thanks for posting this.
Thanks man! I'm running it now and its just buttery smooth. I like it better then 7.1

I have tried Skype once or twice. It usually doesn't work. I stick with Gtalk for video chatting.
Is anyone having overheating issues with this one? I am on 256 and even tried the stable one and my phone overheats alot. I am unable to use the GPS very often because it heats the phone up past 112. Which then crashes the GPS. I have to turn the ac on in my car and hold the phone there until it cools down again. Then I have to reboot the phone. Will try going to this one this weekend to see if it helps.
Sae I have not had any of those issues with this Kang. Are you running GPS while your phone is plugged in? Maybe try redownloading and reflashing.

Stable rom/kernel?

I'm running a rooted stock kernel/rom from VM
I wanted to ask in the dev thread but I don't have enough posts for it but I suppose this is more of a newbie question anyways.
If I put in the bkernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1322982 would I be able to use it with the stock rom?
The part about 66mhz support, Whyzor's latest touchscreen driver (don't know what they changed but my touchscreen is driving me crazy), and tethering is always useful. I just want something stable and my phone auto-reboots randomly so I'm ready to try something new.
Not certain but I think you can. Why not give it a try? Just do a nandroid backup before making the change so you can restore your phone if you don't like the result.
If you want improved performance but want to keep the original look and feel of your phone try the 'Triumph Stock Re-Imagined' ROM by chairshot215. I think it comes with a version of whyzors kernal. I am using it and it runs great, Quadrant score about 2700.
On the other hand, to my knowledge there are 2 things CM7 can't do, WiFi and Blue tooth will not operate at the same time and HDMI is broken. If you must have one of those well I guess you need the stock ROM.
That is pretty unfortunate. I don't use the HDMI out very often but it does prove useful when I want to show things off. And I am usually on wifi when I'm home >.<
I was somewhat hoping a stock rom would preserve the HDMI feature (did not see the wifi/bt issue) and I had hoped changing out the kernel would theoretically fix bugs and add features in the background while preserving the other stuff.
I really need to make a nandroid backup, I still use the stock recovery and one click root.
to my knowledge B_randon has 2 different B_kernels available, one for Stock roms and one for CM7 roms, im not 100% sure if the stock one will work on purely stock or if it has to be running a stock froyo type rom, but i cant see why it wouldnt
as for CM7, the having Wifi and BT enabled causes CPU to max and phone to crash is i bug that im pretty sure was resolved in the later builds
the rom by G60madman called CM7 G60 Style Final no longer has this issue to my knowledge, Altho it still does have the issue where leaving Wifi or BT on may cause it to not go into Deep Sleep Mode, but so far all my research has returned is that is a side effect of the workarounds needed to get wifi and bt to function properly
i currently am running the G60 Style Final on my device and i love it, im Not however running it with the b_randon kernel, due to the fact that in my case atleast the cm7 version of the kernel seems to not get battery life as good as the whyzor based kernel included in the rom
