What's everyone think of the HTC amaze? - HTC Sensation

Sent from my Sensation using xda premium

Slight upgrade from sensation, the camera looks sick!! But that's about it for me.

Spec wise camera is nice, in real world it doesn't live up to it's name. Just what I've read through several reviews, I don't have one personally.

Amaze:
*14GB Internal memory(Actually accessible)
*Same SLCD as Sensation
*New F2 Camera(MT4GS) most Adv Phone Cam?
*1GB RAM V. Sensation's 78MB
*Same CPU, but has 42Mbps(yea right) Tmobile, and is 1.GHz
*New silver design & is heavier
*bad battery, must be that "42Mbps" data chip how ironic

not to sound vain but I do not like the speaker grill.
never been a big fan of the MT4G's grill.
come to think of it, don't like the look of the phone at all. the phone as a whole looks like it got hit with the ugly stick...
specs wise not enough leap for me to trade up.
seems like a good phone though... heard the Sense on it runs smoother then our version.

I heard its only available in US?
How about asian? Will we receive it?

Yeah, looks like ****.

The aesthetic may be bad, but the specs are nice. Wish sensation has this spec.

I think it's pretty cool. Would cop if I didn't have a Sensation already. But if you're lookin to upgrade I would still wait for the Nexus to come out. Thing looks amazing.

My buddy has 1 coming in the mail today, so I'll hear more about it soon. He loved my Sensation.
I told him all the secrets and he's getting $10 off each month for 24 mos. And is getting the Amaze for $9.99 with a new 2 year. Not bad, and they let him keep his old SunCom $35 1000 minutes plan with unlimited nights and weekends and 400 texts. Now he just needs the 5gig Pref Android data plan for $20 instead of the regular 2gig plan

I agree with the speaker grill being ugly. The whole design is not appealing to me just like htc raider is not beautiful in my eyes. The sensation is just gorgeous compared to the amaze.

I think it looks nice and the spec sounds good. This'll be called the 'Ruby' in the UK right?
I'd love to find out what the UK sim free price will be.

Worth Sensation or wait

I have a HD2 with Dorimanx CM7 MAGLDR. I need a new toy, I was thinking of getting a used HTC Sensation off Criagslist. Instead of using my, upgrade with TMobile. So I, can wait for HTC Ruby or Samsung Hercules in October. Is a Sensation worth the troubl. Thanks!
It is definitely worth it.

Wait. Nothing special when it was released, and certainly nothing special now when SGS2/Nexus Prime/other phones are coming out soon.

TOTALLY agree... nothing special.
The Sensation is an okay phone.....just nothing special. I still prefer my rooted Vibrant that I handed off to my wife!
I would wait. Play with them all in the store, and choose the one you prefer or suits your needs.
I just upgraded from my HD2 to a sensation and I'm not regretting it at all. Got tired of waiting for the GS2 and Acer Iconiatab A100. By the time they come out something else awesome will be coming out. I also have faith that the full potential of this phone will be unlocked soon enough. I love the stock Rom too so I'm not hurting for that to happen right away anyways. Best phone I have owned. Awesome bettery life too!

The S4G is great to play with for now, and all the cooked roms & mods over in Development! Or you could wait for the Nexus 3!!
As much as I love my sensation, if I were you, I'd wait for something better. Hopefully the next nexus will be out soon. Ill be preordering that first chance I get lol

I say wait. Sensation is not a perfect phone, it has problematic spots such as battery overheat and then rapid drain, often reloads, weak screen performance on a bright day. But I am still happy with it.

Actually, in general Sensation has improved all the mentioned things compared to previous HTC phones. Soooo, just bad experience really, it's not common.
Sensation over HD2? Well, i came from Desire, and expected something out of this world, so got disappointed. The only MASSIVE improvement ove hd2 is the screen, the rest of it, well, an improvement but not the one to die for.

Definitely not. I will never buy a LCD screen phone again, simply because LCD screens are worthless in sunlight. I certainly appreciate the qHD resolution that the Sensation has, but as soon as phones start coming out with improved SAMOLED+ (meaning fixing some issues such as odd colors) screens that also have good resolution (qHD or up), I'll be looking to switch.

Smartphone unlimited most definitely does have access to the new network. All T-Mobile data plans have access to all network speeds. They just don't want to give the apn to continue using it and fed you that line of bull to force you onto an "android" plan. Try calling customer loyalty and getting this plan:

Had hd2 also, upgraded and its alright. You can definitely tell the smoothness of the sensation. But the HD2s screen was spectacular, the small bezel was amazing. It made the phone look so much bigger. The colors are better on the HD2 as well, the sensation has a red Hue.

look to be mt4G wannabes by LG..dont see any improvements at all, interesting..
When I saw pics of the back side of the new MT, it looked like it didn't even have a camera flash...
I have no idea why TMO wasted their time with this. They already have a good MT4G and MT4G Slide.
Go figure. Watch us get this and no Nexus Prime. Boy will I be pissed.
I don't think these are wannabes. They are the real deal. From what I heard, htc droppes the mytouch line and lg picked it up.

I must have got lucky because I have had zero problems with my phone. I even slammed it in the back hatch of my car right on the screen with the latch and all it did was rip the screen protector. I have been flash happy with it from day one changed the radio countless times. I test every ROM that I can find (some of them so bad I'm lucky it still works) and never one problem with the phone. I agree the new LG phones look kinda cheap I don't think they could take the beating I have done to this thing. I'm going to stay with HTC if a 4 year old a 2 year old and myself can't break this phone they did something very right.

Got to play with the amaze today while in a T-Mobile store. Its nothing that special. Build quality seemed nice and screen was good but overall wasn't too impressed. Ran quadrent side by side with my phone. The amaze got 2200 something while my mytouch did 2400 something without being over clocked. Although, the amaze did have about 12 megs down and 3 up which is nice. Sense 3.5 was kinda cool too but like I said nothing too spectacular.
One thing tho, it was fun showing the rep how I could hit 3400 on quadrant with fauxs kernel oc'd to 1904 MHz ( or whatever that setting is.

im almost 100% certain the htc amaze ships with sense 3.0, says so on their website...
and also keep in mind the amaze was 100% stock, and yours was modified, so imagine the potential of a phone with not only a faster processor, but dual core, and 256mb more ram, just saying...

Amaze 4G

Anyone think its worth selling the sensation and paying a little bit more of money to "upgrade" to the amaze?
Other than the HSPA+, are there any other major differences?

Well its has more ram...the screen looks much better, better camera and no its not just the software its a better sensor and lens. Checked it out at the Tmobile store today. I was thinking of giving my wife my Sensation and upgrading to it. While it is a nice looking phone, I was somewhat underwhelmed. Firstly, it could not get a data connection, despite showing 3 bars. My Sensation got a better connection. One of the mains reasons I wanted to upgrade was due to the faster network speeds and here I couldn't even test it out. The camera is nice and took fast pictures in the continuous mode. Still on the fence about it and I am not sure what kind of development it will get and how long it will take to get root.

I'd say that you might want to wait at least 1 month before buying it.
Prime will most likely be out by then and Galaxy S2 as well, So you will have 3 phones to compare and decide.

Awesome device...Get it before it's too late
And what about the problems
Sent from my HTC One V using XDA
I've had my Sensation since this past August and after many hours spent tinkering, trying out custom ROMs, the only problem I've ever had is that I don't see an icon when I get voicemails. I saw the notifications initially but after unlocking it at the end of that August I haven't seen the icon again.
If something happened to mine, I would consider another model but I'd probably try and scope out a good deal on another Sensation 4G. It's a great phone!
considering the low price it goes for on the used market its completely worth it!!!
Does it beat the EVO 3d?
Sent from my HTC One V using XDA
They're almost the same phones - Evo3D has dual cameras, 3D display and larger battery (can be bought for the Sensation as well) and 1 GB RAM (instead of 768).
Take your pick.
It's very worth, due to the lower price. I like my sensation
It's a good phone, you can get them quite cheap off eBay, mine cost very little (comparatively speaking).
Great phone, still loads of support from devs
I haven't experiences any problem like dust under the screen or the like. Everything works great, and sense4 functions well.
If you want a used and cheap phone get the sensation. But i advise you, if you're going to spend big then look for other phones like the Galaxy Nexus or wait for the GS3.

Thnx to everybody for their replies! i'm completely happy with my choice and jus can't stop lookin at the big boy..
Yep. I thought it was a bugfest here too but since the price started to get really cheap last month I bought one and surprisingly it was well worth it. Very fast and responsive on ICS (specially when on Custom rom). Development is superb too. Only issue I have is the poor battery life but these can be solve by buying an aftermarket battery (something like anker or chichitec w/c has 1900 mah).
I bought mine for $250 last month

HTC Sensation vs HTC Amaze with ICS

Now that ICS is available for both the Sensation and the Amaze I'm wondering if its worth it to pay the extra $200+ for an Amaze? I can buy a used Sensation for less than $100, but the Amaze is still upwards of $300.
What I'm mostly looking for is a good camera to be my day to day point and shooter. Is the Sensation's camera good enough?
The HSPA+ on the Amaze is very tempting, but is it a considerable speed boost?
Gazelle.com buys the Sensation used for $140 so if you can get one cheaper then that its a deal.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
I found a used Sensation down the street from me on craigslist for $75. I'm not sure about the condition, but it should be fine. I'd just like to have the nicer camera of the Amaze.
wtf? where the hell do you live? hope the screen/digitizer is ok and imei is not blacklisted.
in my neck of the woods, sensations go for 250 on average (~240-300), and amazes are 300 on the low end (300-400).
big selling point for the amaze is hspa+ 42 if that's of importance to you. sensation is hspa 14, which gets around 2-7mbps real world.
I've never played with an amaze in person, but I hear the physical size of the sensation is better.
I'm in Virginia. There's one used Sensation for $75 on cl and another used for $150.

I have an SGS 2 that is hspa+ 42 and I consistently get over 20 mbps download speeds compared to the Wife's Sensation 4G which is the hspa+ 14 which sees about 10 mbps on the average. So that's a major point to make between the Sensation and the Amaze...
But we live in east Seminole county in FL so obviously speeds will vary ...
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
A difference of $200 is probably not worth it unless you absolutely need the higher speed internet.
Maybe if the difference falls to $75-100.
just my opinion
You probably won't even realize the speed difference between the two. Especially if you live in a congested city or town. I'd say the Sensation looks better than the Amaze.
Not to mention, there's a mod in the dev forum that allows u to flash the amaze cam on the senny..more development on the senny, sense 4 on the senny..im already amazed with my sensation lol...just my 2 cents...

Get the sensation. My wife has the amaze and the dev is awful. Sensation still has awesome dev going on. I haven't even rooted her phone because I can't without voiding the warranty. (She's accident prone). The amaze has a better camera and dl speed but in the real world we both use wifi so it doesn't matter. The dev on the sensation is keeping it in the top 5 phones out still.

I believe the Amaze has wirse battery life, so I'd get the Sensation.
You can upgrade from the stock 1520MaH battery to a 1730MaH model from the Sensation XE.

Dev is not extremely important to me. I'd rather just let the phone be and not worry about tinkering with different roms. As for the battery I was looking at a 1900 MaH on Amazon that apparently really helps the Amaze. I do like the Sensation, but I'm having a hard time finding one for a reasonable price. $300 for an Amaze is very tempting.
Thanks for all the feedback folks!

LOL yea
the amaze might get more dev with ICS soon but it will never be anything like the sensation. the pros dont outweigh the cons for me
pros being wide-angle camera lens, louder speaker, and of course, more ram..
i dont see any other real upgrade.. maybe the deathgrip thing we have but apparently they have it too. this generation of HTC devices had a lot of manufacturing defects i guess
amaze build quality is amazing
The Amaze is very sturdy, by far has a superior built quality than the Sensation.
The camera is great and has bands that support extremely fast download speeds.
