G2X Fast Start-Up - T-Mobile LG G2x

Just got my T-Mobile G2X on October 18. My very first Android phone!
Played with it stock for two days, then backed it up, rooted it and flashed the latest CyanogenMod.
After installing about a dozen apps from the App Store and getting things nice and settled, I noticed that startup for my G2X was pretty slow, maybe around one minute? So, I plugged it into USB and ran Diskeeper. Told me fragmentation on the G2X internal drive was 1.41 (very high).
There is conflicting information out there about whether defragging an Android internal flash drive makes any difference. I shut down my G2X, restarted, then connected to USB and defragged the internal flash.
Boots to the lock screen in 22 seconds.

Never had to do that on my G2x and i'm running Cm7 Stable. And i can honestly say that boot-up was always less than 20 secs.

I think it may be a placebo effect since CM7 doesn't use the internal storage as the main storage, plus mine always boots in about 20 seconds.

Actually, mine did take a long time to startup. Maybe it was because I had done so much to it in a short period of time.

Just turned my phone off and timed it, exactly 20 seconds to lock screen. Running CM7 177 nightly.

Sorry for the newbie question but... what does "CM7 177 nightly" mean?
I know CM7 = CyanogenMod 7.

O.K., so to update, I download the latest CM7 .ZIP to my SD card, then from ROM manager do Install from SD Card.
This will install the new CM7 firmware while keeping my phone's flash data intact.
Am I correct?

Another thing to remember, you can't use windows tools to defrag, (which personally I don't see the point in defragging a linux file system.) The filesystem that is used by android on our phones is ext4. (ext3 for stock) Windows can't even read the filesystems for the most part, so all you did was defrag the internal sd card memory, (which on cm7 is at /mnt/emmc), didn't do anything with the filesystem.
Android, especially on a new install, takes a while to settle down. You usually can't gauge speed for a day or two, because you need to fully create the dalvik-cache. Once that happens, then see how fast it loads up.

Yeah it will flash the newest version of CM7 while still keeping your apps and data.

Thanks!
Seems that if these are the recent stable releases:

I'll stick with stable releases until I get to know Android better.

The newest nightlies are ahead of the stable releases.
You can follow the progress here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108201
I don't flash the nightlies one after another when a new one comes out. I'm still on Nightly 177 and I have no problems with it, so I still have it on my phone.
But if you have problems with your phone, you can try flashing the newest nightly.
Here you can see the what has been added to the newest nightly.

Do the nightlies include the Google apps?
What about my installed apps? And I have one paid app (ROM Manager) and want to flash so I don't lose it.

Paid apps stay in the market. Cm7 does not include gapps and must be flashed seperately.

Once you flash CM7 for the first time onto your phone, you have to also flash the Google apps because they don't come with CM7, but you only have to do that once. When you flash a nightly you still keep all your apps including Google apps.

You don't need to defrag a Linux-based system. The internal memory that application saw as being fragmented was likely the "internal sdcard" partition which has nothing to do with your system booting.
When you flash a new rom, the first boot takes significantly longer because it has to build the dalvik cache. Its only on the first boot that it takes that long, or possibly on the boot after installing or restoring several apps. All subsequent boots will be much quicker. Mine boots in less than 20 seconds and I have several dozens of apps installed.

O.K., so, I've already flashed CM7 7.1.0.1 (Oct 11). I installed the Google Apps after that, and two T-Mobile apps (from .apk) off my backup.
So now if I flash Nightly 177 over my existing install, I keep all my existing apps. Do I use ROM Manager to update to Nightly 177, or do I boot into ClockworkMod Recovery and flash Nightly 177 from there?
When I tried to download from ROM Manager, I got a popup that said "install additional update zips off the sd card?" I can't find any explanation for that - what is it asking for and I do need it?

The last stable release still does not support HDMI.
Does Nightly 177 support the G2X's HDMI interface?

FYI, the first boot will always take long because the system has to build the cache, I think. Something like that
Any reboots following the initial boot should be fairly quick

Hi Guys,
I'm running the 21y update for my G2x and not Cyanogen MOD. Maybe Cyanogen Mod 7 is stable on a G2x, but CM9 is awful on my Dell Streak 7 (much better after dropping trebuchet 0.1 and switching to ADW Launcher), so I'm apprehensive about trying it. However, it takes roughly 3 minutes to boot my phone and it's very annoying. Is it possible I've configured it to rebuild my dalvik cache at every boot? How would I check that? Any other suggestions? Is there a boot log with the program being loaded and the load times?
Thanks,
Christian Blackburn

Anyway, flashing right now. I LOVE ur Roms.... hehehe
Just flash.
I feel abit slower than cm5.0.7 test3.
Thanks for the hard work.
Hello New Thread.
I kinda figured you fell asleep last night Kolohe. I will check your beta when I get home from work later today and put up the mirror. I am going to keep your old ROMs up there too
got a question.
Did a total wipe and when it booted up first time, I got a low space warning. Apparently a whole bunch of my apps that were on SDcard came back as installed. And because on first boot, apps2sd isn't on yet, it tried to put them on internal (I had about +/- 80 apps come back from my 139 total)
So I backed out, rewiped data, dalvik, and ext, and reflashed rom. It boot up fine again, but once again, it immediately installed 7 of the apps (replica island, docs to go, pobs... just to name a few). So I moved them to sd card and all is fine.
The question is:
1. Is this normal? I've never had this happen before CM5 based ROMs. I haven't tried any other Eclair roms except the CM5 based ones and I wasn't sure if this is a behavior that's normal for 2.1 roms.
2. Why only some of the apps come back? Isn't wiping ext supposed to clear it all out or am I mistaken?
Just wanted to let you know, there seems to be a problem with using Backup for Root users. It will break any apps allready installed and fix_permissions or Repair ext will not help, I have found this to be true on all CY5 based roms.
EDIT:Restoring SMS,Call log and even Market DB seems to work fine after running Fix_permissions, Restoring APPS Does Nothing.(No APPS Restored) It Was trying use the Dusted-donuts hack that caused the apps to be Broken.
EDIT:::: The problem WITH APPS NOT WORKING APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY ME TRYING TO USE THE JIT HACK "DUSTED-DONUTS" LIKE I DID WITH 4.1. I believe the JIT Flash Update for Cy5 will work though.
EDIT: JIT-HACK It does work.http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=245 this is what i used.
Thanks again for a great rom!
This thing Flies!
I'm using the Jit-Hack And AnyKernel OC Patch, changed swappiness to 95 in 86supersettings,and cpu refresh to 1000000(kills batt),and Cpu Min/Max to 122800/716000. Still using SetCPU for Sleep/failsafe Profile.
EDIT2: I just noticed that at the initial google sign in screen you can press menu and in addition to the normal Wireless settings option there is now an option to disable auto restore!( I know you probably already knew that and it has been mentioned a hundred times!)
well gonna give this a try let u know soon for any bugs
To confirm this is JACP?
Watching logcat I saw that debugger daemon is enabled. I/Debug.
and is this based on CE-5.0 t2? or are patches for T3 in place?
quick question:
If I extracted the boot img from this rom and flashed it with my currently installed CM 5.0.7 test 3 would it still have the same speed boost, optimization, and cache clearing settings?
Not that I don't want to flash this rom itself, but I was just wondering if I could also try out the features with another.
Will fix the apparently problem but that might be caused by thenew boot script that wipes the dalvik cache. .. will be working on that later today

Also as a side note, I think apps2sd must be enabled by default,or get rid of the auto app restore thing. I think it is going to confuse people and clutter up the threads.

(ROM) Cyanogen 7 RC 2 Unofficial Release Updated 3/8/11

Sorry can't post in dev section yet but drod was nice enough to let me get my hands on cyanogen mod 7 release candidate 2 and said I could share. This is not an official release and not supported yet. To flash place zip on internal sd boot in clockwork wipe data and install zip.
I used clockwork .08
Update: fix for internal sd problem
Credit goes to drod2169
Updated Install

Here is a link to the gapps for Gingerbread that gives full market out of the box
I installed the rom first and let it boot up then went back in clockwork and installed gapps. Don't know if it matters.

When you say the internal SD doesn't work, do you mean it doesn't show up at all? Or could it possibly be /mnt/emmc?

Up and running as I type. Looks really nice. Put soft buttons on status bar which will help me at night not having to feel for the home and back buttons on the side since they don't illuminate. Market is full and working quite nicely as it backed up all of my purchases and dl's right away.
Only thing not working for me so far is the docking station. Still a nogo. Just came off of bitrix to try this......
Well done!!!

Installed this last night from a link he sent on twitter. Think its the same version. Only issue i see so far is my sdcard is not showing up. I get sdcard for internal memory but not for my actual card. A message comes up when I insert it saying that one was inserted then it says its safe to remove. Not sure how to mount it. I don't see it in /mnt either.

Calkulin has a nice format all zip (see first post here)that you flash like a rom before flashing a new rom. works good only 1 step instead of many. only thing it doesn't seem to format is Delvik so that has to be done manually but it cuts out a few steps in the rom prep work.
This rom has the same shape icons in the right corner as the vegan roms and the same notification icons as cm rc2. The mounts are sdcard and emmc for external. The res has been changed so some apps wont scale properly. If it wasn't for that I would have kept using it because I prefer the minimal notification icons compared to vegans experimental new icons.

On my tab the internal storage is mapped to /sdcard while /emmc is empty. my external (actual) sdcard is nowhere to be found. settings-storage shows the sdcard as having 13.07gb total. my actual sd card is 4gb so this is confirming its actually the internal memory. All the Vegan roms showed my sdcard as mounted at /sdcard2. was just curious as to how I should go about mounting my sdcard so i can access it? I have no issues with this memory mounting setup just curious how to get my card to be mounted. Can i type something in a terminal to mount it?
I realize that the vegan series is a moddified version of cm and this is an attempt to be true cm tweaked to run on our tabs and that some things are gonna be different. So if I am missing something with the sdcard mounting please let me know. I think Drod2169 does great work and have loved rubix on my X for months now.
I jumped on this rom from Bitrix and my sd card reads exactly the same as it did before as sdcard while my internal is emmc. It seems as if it's not liking the change from your previous association to this new association of internal/external storage. Were you using a pre-Gingerbread rom before? If so check out this link for the association of storage files...this may help
I also use rootexplorer and have no problems accessing/copying/moving files etc.
I was on Calkuins beta, then wiped and installed vegan ginger experimental 3/8/11. After it started and loaded apps from market Drod2169 sent me a link to this one on twitter so I wiped and installed this. Maybe that the kernel didn't install right our something.will try to redownload and try again.

It is cm 7 rc2 I say unofficial release because it may be changed slightly before they officially announce its release. If you don't want it you don't have to use it, I just thought I would post it for people that do.
So. It turns out that if I knew how to read I could have fixed my problem a while ago. The first post says right on it that it was updated to fix sdcard problem. The version I had was from before this "fix". Downloaded updated one and installed. All is well. Market seem good so far all items are mounting speed seems good. Don't use youtube so cant comment on video but flash works on the sites i've tried it on. Thanks Drod2169 for giving us some more of your time.
I'm curious as I've ran bittrix's unofficial and several of gojimi's Ginger vegan. Do installed apps show up on the market under My Apps? On every other Ginger rom I've tried, Market-My Apps just shows nothing. Love gingerbread but it makes it a pain trying to keep apps up to date. Also does purchasing work, or does vending FC when trying to?
Thanks

[Q] Do I have to have a class 6 or better SD card to use this?
[A] While a class 6 or better SD card is recommended, I tried it out with the 8GB class 2 SD card that came with the phone. I would say "for best results" (to reduce or eliminate potential lag problems) use a class 6 or better SD card from a reputable manufacturer/seller. Not all SD cards are created equal.

[A] Before you use Boot Manager to install and AOSP based ROM get a copy of gapps here and place it in a folder on your SD card. Once you install CM7 or MIUI Bootmanager will ask if you want to boot into the ROM, "Install zips", or "Done". Select "Install zips" and find the gapps .zip file on your SD card and select it. i read the link in the description from the market, and it says they recommend a class 6 card i have a class 4 16 gig and wondering if it would work??
I'm sure that a faster card is recommended but I was able to install 2 ROMs on the class 2 8GB SD card that came with the phone, and both were very responsive. CM7 and MIUI are lightweight ROMs though, not sure if a Sense ROM would be too slow to use. I say if you have $3 for the app and a card with enough space give it a shot. I have read about class 2 cards outperforming class 6 cards in certain tests, it seems to vary by brand and size for some reason.
I've read about this before but didn't see any results on the EVO. I guess ill give this a shot on my og when I get home.

In their defense, they released a new version on August 12th, 2011. The changelog did not have anything Evo specific, but maybe some of the changes would have solved your issue?
I didn't have any problems loading CM7 and MIUI off a class 2 SD card, Synergy ROMs have a ton of modifications, etc (not a bad thing), this app is not specific for the Evo, so I would not expect this to work for every ROM/Partition/A2SD scenario. Each ROM took about 15 minutes to load initially, but was easy to switch once they were there.

+1 Also would like to know,....
I don't see why not, I will try it out. When I flashed MIUI and CM7 I was able to flash the gapps.zip using the "Install zips" feature. As long as your mod/theme is in a .zip format I think it would. I am installing a 3rd ROM to SD right now, as soon as it is done I will try a theme zip.
If you did not already know, this application requires that you connect to the internet for an authentication check of some sort. A pirated app will not work. With that said, I recommend switching to airplane mode and connecting to WiFi before installing a ROM (if possible). Last night I received a text during installation and it stopped the installation process. I would have had some choice words for the person sending the text if it were anyone other than my Mom.

Just to play around. only light weight roms that i had good experience with are MIUI 1.7.22 & deck 1.3. other ones like King variations or anything with Sense 3.0 is just to toooooo slow to run off of SD card and you might be disappointed. I am waiting on the developer to add new features to this.....& Yes it does an internet check upon app's startup to look for valid license. otherwise won't run!

now see this is the same card i have, 16 gig class 4, and i love the sense roms like synergy and evolved and the kingdom ports.
ty again bro saved me some money.
I have not experienced the issues some of you are having, not sure what the problem could be. I still think it is worth the $3 just to have a Sense ROM as the base and the ability to easily boot into AOSP based ROMs like MIUI and CM7. You could set it up like this:
PhoneROM: Sense 3.0 ROM
Slot 1 MIUI 1.8.12
Slot 2 CyanogenMod 7.0.3 build 170
Slot 3 MIUI 1.8.19
Slot 4 CyanogenMod 7.1 RC
My coworker is new to ROM flashing and just flashed MIUI on his OG Droid so he is always showing me new themes he found. It is nice to be able to boot into MIUI and pick up the theme out of dropbox and give it a go,
Well I LOVE this app!!!
I have a class 4 - 16gb card
And I put my 7/23 synergy kingdom 3.0 sense rom on the Phone Rom
and then I also have Miui 108190 on rom 1 port.
I havent tried any other rom but Miui runs faster than the 3.0 sense straight from SD card, I have DT apps2sd installed on the miui rom as well, everything works via a2sdgui!!! I have custom sbc kernel installed on MIUI
What i love about the rom is,
At night I put Airplane mode on when i sleep, Boot into Miui, let phone charge on sbc kernel and then boot into Synergy rom with no 10% drain and no missed mms's going into the wrong rom.
Awesome set up in my book i love SBC kernels and theres still none for Gingerbread roms but i love this set up!!
Miui has all apps i still use if i want to play pandora or audible b4 going to bed and ya-ta ya-ta...
Main thing ive learned is the bigger roms should be on Phone Storage... I havent tried anything else... I had synergy rsl 1 on rom 2 but as you all say its laggy...
Miui is Flawless and its cool to add apps2sd and it works!
Anyways im done!
--edit-- of course wifi works in airplane mode so u gotta have wifi for audible and pandora and other such things.
Phone Rom: 7/23 kingdom
ROM 1: latest cm7 nightly
ROM 2: EVO deck
ROM 3: latest miui
ROM 4: synergy rls 1 (haven't tried it yet)

i have successfully flashed kernels and fonts into a slot, script manager runs fine in a slot for me,i flashed 2 themes to cm7 and 1 stuck. the other didnt, but i flashed it from another slot, maybe that had something to do with it. ive installed a rom to a slot from another slot and it worked. i have v6 supercharger and kickass kernel tweak and sd speed increase on cm7 in a slot and achieved over 1700 quadrant score. i use a class 4, 16 gb card.
tonight i loaded the latest cm nightly in a slot and it was fine but boot manager said i was on phone rom and i wasnt. when i tried to boot into anything else it said failed boot image so i had to go to recovery and find an update zip in the boot manager folder,(you can use the update from any slot), glad i know about that little trick. it makes me much more willing to try risky stuff.

[User Thread] Mazout360's CM10.1 Weeklies for the LG-P999

The reason for this User Thread is so that we can keep the development thread clean. Post in the development thread only if you have something useful to contribute such as a logcat, or any dev-related comments. Post any suggestions, bug reports, questions or comments about the rom in this thread,
What's working and what's not?
Working:
Camera - Yes, this means Camcorder also works! 1080P Video shooting and playback work great.
Bluetooth
WiFi
Audio
SD Card Storage
Battery Meter
And of course Hardware Acceleration!
Not Working:
RIL (Mobile Network) - This means no calls, no SMS, no Data, no anything related to the functions of your SIM Card! T-Mobile WiFi Calling also doesn't work.
Information On Dual Booting Roms
Since we currently have an issue with the network radio on our CM10 roms, most people will not be able to use this rom as a daily driver, and would prefer to stay on a fully functioning GB rom. This dual booting method lets us have the best of both worlds! You can have a buttery smooth and fast CM10 rom for enjoying all of Android Jellybean 4.2.1 goodies and a fully function Gingerbread rom when ever you need to make a call and such. For now, this is the best we can do. It's simple and very fast to switch between roms. What else could you ask for? ;D
Installation Instructions Including Dual Booting
DISCLAIMER
I (WE) AM NOT RESPONSIBLE of any damages to your device related to the use of this ROM or the dualboot toolkit. You do this at your own risk. Even though this has been tested and works well, using NVFLASH may brick your device if done incorrectly.
This ROM comes in two flavours: The dualboot toolkit or the Original flashable ROM
Dualboot ROM Instructions
WARNING! NVFLASH will format EVERYTHING, including internalSD. Make sure you backup your important files on your externalSD card
PART 1 - Resizing system partition
1) Unzip the dualboot toolkit and unzip NVFLASH_Resizer-G2X.zip.
2) Power off your phone and remove the battery. Keep vol. up and vol. down held and plug the phone via USB to a WINDOWS computer.
3) Windows should add an "APX driver". Go to control panel -> Device manager and right click on it -> Update driver -> search in system. Then, browse to the drivers folder inside the NVFLASH package and choose nvidiausb.inf. Approve any error messages (Windows 8 users read my FAQ). Install the Nvidia Fastboot driver.
4) Unplug your phone and hold down vol.up and vol.down. Replug it again and double click on flash.bat inside the NVFLASH folder. KEEP BOTH BUTTONS HELD DOWN DURING THE WHOLE PROCESS!.
5) When NVFLASH is done, unplug the phone and put back the battery. Reboot into recovery with power + vol. down. Plug it back and go to mounts and storage -> mount USB storage. If your PC asks to format the internal SD card, select yes.
PART 2 - Installing ROMS
1) Download the desired "call/SMS" ROM and extract boot.img from it's flashable zip. Rename it to boot1.img. Extract Step3_bootimg.zip from the dualboot toolkit and copy-paste boot1.img into system/boot, replacing the file that is already there. Repack Step3_bootimg.zip.
2) Copy-paste your desired ROM into the 0dualboot folder and send it to your device SDcard with everything it contains (your device should already be in the "mount USB storage" menu).
3) From the recovery, flash Step1_enabler.zip. When the screen goes black, hold power + vol. down to get back into recovery.
4) Flash your desired ROM, then Step2_ROM1.zip. Reboot to the OS.
5) You should have a Systemchanger app. Open it, click on "Switching" and give root permissions. When the screen goes black (again...), hold power + vol. down to get into recovery.
6) Flash ROM2.zip and Step3_Bootimg.zip and reboot in the OS
And there you go! To switch from one OS to another, just open the systemchanger app and click on "switching"!
Credits to bihariel for the original method. See the original thread here.
Original flashable zip ROM instructions
1) Boot into recovery with power + vol. down
2) Wipe data/cache, then mounts and storage -> format system
3) Flash this ROM
4) Advanced -> Wipe dalvik cache and fix permissions
5) Reboot and enjoy!
Special trick : In settings, go to About phone and click 6 times on Build number. This will pop up the developer and performances options. In performances options, CPU settings, change the governor from INTERACTIVE to SMARTASSV2.

Mazout Kernel on Stock 2.3.4
I flashed Mazout360's GB kernel over kwes' rooted 2.3.4/March 2012 basebannd. Was running pretty smooth, but had some problems
> Bluetooth icon at top of screen did not turn off "connected" status when I turned off my headset (BlueAnt q2.1)
> Had a few freezes. Installed SetCPU to keep max speed at 1015MHz but still some stops. Some out of nowhere, some in the middlle of doing stuff
> Finally started shutting down often. Tried to get a terminal emulator from the Market, but Market started crashing, even after several reboots. Could not get a kmsg to send.
Reinstalled my nandroid. No time at the moment to play more, need my phone reliable for some days to come. Hope lots of people try this kernel out and that I get more time with it. Nice to have new Dev activity for the G2x.
Quick question, i was wondering if it matters what zip tool we are using? Can i use 7zip for this, or should i use winzip?

Shouldn't matter, but I always use Winrar.
Micro SD card not detected
I was following along the steps and everything was going well until step 5 in part 1. when i rebooted my phone into recovery and pulged it into the PC nothing happened even though i followed exactly what the steps say, then i continued on and everything was going well until the end, where i found out that i couldn't get the data that I backed up to my Micro SD card because the phone doesn't see it.
Please help, I'm a noob around here.
I appreciate all the great work

No it didn't. My build computer broke and I need to setup a new HDD with my build environment. I'll make a new version as soon as possible.
hello,
I have dualboot now with hellfire2.4.2 and cm10 mazout's. So one is cm 7 and the other one is cm 10, I want to flash kernel but how? If I flash cm7 kernel will it block the cm10 rom or vice-versa?
guys I have just realized that I do not have dualboot after that steps
5) You should have a Systemchanger app. Open it, click on "Switching" and give root permissions. When the screen goes black (again...), hold power + vol. down to get into recovery.
6) Flash ROM2.zip and Step3_Bootimg.zip and reboot in the OS
I had systemchanger app and clicked on switching after that I flashed mazout's rom then when I open app drawer in cm10 rom, I noticed that I do not have systemchanger app anymore nor camera app.?? what should I do? If I do all steps all over again sould it be working ?

If you flash another ROM, you have to flash the corresponding stepX....zip file right after before rebooting, else you won't have the dualboot app.
Since android 4.2.2 just got out, I'll wait until it gets stable and make my upcoming build out of it For now, my phone battery doesn't work very well so I can't really test anything until I get a new one.
Hey. I got everything to work and am dualbooting nicely. My problem is kernel. I flashed a recent CM7 with this and everything went fine. Then I went to install the most recent CM7 kernel from Maz (the OC) and that works until I switch to Rom2 and back. Then the wifi gets an error and wont do anything. The kernel wont stick. Did I miss something?
Also, last night went to bed with my phone charging and when I woke up my phone was burning hot. Had Max OC at 1100.
Thanks! Works great having a taste of 4.2.1 and a phone!

thank you, I see the problem now, and two question more; do I have to redo PART 1 - Resizing system partition everytime when I install different rom combinations or reinstall same roms and does that Resizing system partition harmful/useless or slows down the phone IF I only use 1 ROM?
I'm considering the dual boot, but want to know if it's possible to go back to single boot if/[hopefully] when radio is fixed. I suppose it'll be a matter of using original nvflash and format to have only one partition?
*edit1* Ok, now I'm getting my toes wet with this. fastboot.bin...what am I doing with this? The instructions say "install NVidia fast boot." Ok, but how? Or, has it already been installed with APX? I'm confused.
*edit2* ok I have dual boot! Wow this is interesting. Been running it through different combinations of reboots through system changer, and it seems when I update gb to the latest mazkrnl it won't stick after switching to jb and back again.
Do I need to use the boot.img from the kernel and repack it into step3?
Sent from my LG-P999
Oh shoots. Somewhere along the line I managed to break the wifi
MAC address comes up as unavailable in jb, just says error whenever I try to turn it on in gb. I'm thinking start the process over?

You need to flash a kernel. I am having the same problem, but flashing a kernel after switching back to GB fixes everything.

So, you mean that after using system switcher app, do power+vol up and flash kernel? Because any time I've tried that it only works on the first instance when i boot into gb. Once i go to jb and back again, the kernel goes back to stock. I'll try again though. Maybe fix permissions too!

When you system switch back to GB, reboot back into recovery and flash a kernel. I wouldn't say it goes back to stock because if it did there wouldn't be a wifi error like that. But for some reason JB works fine nothing wrong I have seen yet, though I just noticed I don't have a camera/gallery.
After switching back and forth so much I just flash the kernel and don't do anything else because nothing has seemingly changed if I wipe anything or fix anything.
If Maz has answer for this I would be much appreciated or anyone else for that matter.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
Edit: figured it out. A new boot1.img does need to get made with the new kernel already installed.
I created a new boot.img per the instructions on the original dual boot for p990 thread with maz kernel. Then I repacked step3_bootimg. Reflashed rom2 and the step3, then voila! So, you have to redo a couple steps if you want to update one rom's kernel.
Pic no longer related.
guys im having some trouble, when i go to the systemchanger app and grant permission instead of the screen going blank it gets stuck on a screen with two lg logos.
i think i havent installed the fastboot drivers correctly. i assumed it gets installed when i run flash.bat, but it may need to be installed seperately. if it needs to be installed how do i do it cause its just a .bin file and i have no idea what to do with it

[ROM] CM13 LG G3 AT&T D850 daily ROM issues

The changes to fix the GPS and SD problems, formerly pending at CyanogenMod, have now been merged with the base code. I will keep new relatively current builds for CM13 d850 posted, with links here, until CyanogenMod starts posting official nightly builds. The builds I post may or may not include unreviewed pending changes to the CM base code as seems fit.
(if you elect to follow me on the above link you will be automatically notified when I post updates...)
UPDATE – SD card fix, too – see below
As of yesterday (2015 Dec 29) there are fixes in the works at CyanogenMod for the GPS problems on LG G3 with CM13 (Marshmallow, 6.0.1). These fixes are in code review and are not yet merged, so if you just git the current code you won't get them. To get them, see change IDs If1d1772952a303b9378579e22c8248805cc191a5 and Iab2c5df90c59b34e33450a7d400cf73c4bef5fa4 at review.cyanogenmod.org and the change to the recommended vendor blobs at TheMuppets on github.com, change ID Iaae7dc3d8bd4aae5e6deb1ee248554217a0adae8.
I did a scratch build for my d850 overnight and GPS works GREAT! For those of you who are too impatient to wait for the reviewed and merged code, here is a ROM image to try. This is as experimental a ROM image as you will find. Use it at your own risk. If you do, make sure to first manually wipe system, dalvik, and cache; then flash the ROM image and an Android 6 compatible version of gapps at the same time.
cm-13.0-20151230-UNOFFICIAL-d850.zip
Update: minutes before 2016/01/01
I have included in this update code that is in review at CyanogenMod to fix the exFAT formatted SD problem. That is change ID I6e9bb732eee110ba75f680ea964538712bc33979. This code permits the use of a 128GB SDXC exFAT format card as external storage. I have not so far tested this code for using the card as internal storage. Maybe somebody with a similar card would like to test it in that mode. Here's the ROM image.
cm-13.0-20160101-UNOFFICIAL-d850.zip
Works great, thank you!
Downloading now. What about SD cards? Are you able to format as internal storage? The CM13 builds I've tried get stuck at 20%.
well this is a GPS fix so it's probably not going to increase your megapixel count or make your downloads faster. or fix your SD card.

Seems to be working fine with my extended battery . The regular battery was running hot kept shutting the phone down. Make sure after flash to wipe dalvik before reboot.
Edit : 64gb SD card working fine GPS locked on no problem
Any way to just get the patch instead of the entire ROM? I'm running a CM based rom and having the SD card issue (and probably gps if I tested).

So tell me this .. How's your battery life ? do you think this affects our battery life ?
Just wanted to say thanks to the dev for making this rom. I haven't tested everything, but for my normal day-to-day use it has been absolutely rock solid. No problems doing a clean install of the 1/18 build, and totally smooth dirty flash to the 1/22 build (I haven't checked whether there's an update since). Battery life, including screen-on time, has been great- big step up from the 5.1 rom I had been using. Seems to keep running smoothly even when the phone gets hot. Well done.
:good:
I wiped and flashed this on my D850, and now I have lost root on my phone. I've been searching on line all day for a way to get root on the D850 on MM but have yet been unsuccessful. My phone have been doing weird things sing flashing this ROM on it, and I either need to flash the new version of this ROM or try another or restore from back up, but I need root. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Root is included in CM. Go to Settings -> Developer Options -> Root Access
If you don't have "Developer Options" then go to Settings -> About Phone and touch "Build Number" 6 times quickly and it will unlock the Developer Options.
