Someone mentioned a bug for a couple app crashes
All right, screw it. I am going to remove the CM stuff and just push the nav/fb, ram hack, etc as just an incremental update
To-Do:
Music.apk - Rewrite to ignore music less than 30sec long (aka voicemails)
BFS 310 Kernel with 10mb RAM hack (BFS 310 hasn't been tested by anyone else yet, why not try)
Add Fix_Permissions v2.03 (running the default 1.31 right now)
ZipAlign all apps (including Google apps)

Adjusted a2sd (mt3g: one time copy from /system/sd to data for apps)
Note: this discontinues A2SD from then on for better performance after apps have been copied, am making script to copy back to SD
For fastest possible speed: have a swap partition on your SD card
The ROM will load a2sd for G1's
If you don't have /system/sd (and just swap partition), it will swapon to that
Trick is it utilises both Cyanogen's compcache plus the swap
Then with 10mb hack - hell this is a perfectly fast ROM
See at the bottom if you need Google Apps (starting on clean build or converting from any 1.5 ROM (Hero/Cliq) OR if you are starting with a blank phone lol (aka no system partition at all))
Hero/Cliq/1.5: Yyou will have to run the thing at the bottom for your phone to convert to 1.6 Donut - run that first, then run main zip).. if you still have probs see the bottom of this post
If you are switching from Hero or Cliq see the bottom

I remember reading somewhere that this will lead to problems, and should not be done. From my understanding you should use one or the other, not both.
(otherwise wouldn't we see alot more Devs using that trick?)

can a no wipe update be done from cm 4.2.5?

Only thing ive ever had come out of the 10mb hack was random reboots, random ringtones. phone ringing when noone was calling. crashing getting texts...

Didn't work. Caused me to get stuck on G1 boot screen for an hour. Then totally wiped and again sat there on the G1 boot screen. What is odd is that for some reason my recovery image disappeared and went to JF 1.42 so I couldn't even use recovery. Now I am trying to get my phone back to the way it was.
Fortunately, I still had all the files I needed on my SD card to get me back to where I was. i reinstalled the recovery image and then was able to load my recovery image again. How it got to JF 1.42 (which hasn't been on the phone is many months) is beyond me. I have been doing phone mods for many years and this is the first one that didn't work out.

So, no go?

I tried to do the same thing (cm 2.4.5 + ramhack + swap) but got nowhere, system became sluggish. This should work very well in theory (this should be fast as dwang but with all cm goodies) but I haven't been able to make it work so I'm following this thread and see how it works.

i used to run CM 2.4.x with ramhack and swap no problem, but since 2.4.5 the ramhack slowed my system down so much i just decided it would be better to go without it

Looking into the G1 bug now, did you get a logcat?
Going to try to test on my old G1 in a few, if you have Wave get on there if you want to help debug

Yea I am about to test on my G1 to look around for the bug - my main phone is my myTouch so I didn't test before I posted LOL - my bad on that (it is just in this recent version since worked fine on a friend's G1 before this post)
If you have wave, could you get on there if you want to help debug?
If you have a logcat, just post it here or on pastebin and shoot me the link on Twitter (@wesgarner)

One big thing I am trying to work on here is going through and doing some things Cyanogen couldn't do
Next version I am going to do zipalign on the Google Apps to post that (on a sep update zip for people who prefer to stay legal, hope I don't get a D&S - don't think anyone else has)
I am thinking about doing a choose your kernel like Cyrowski did here - good idea?
Please give any suggestions, this just seems a good way to do some playing around and experimenting that is a project by everybody - developers and users
Also, next project: Write a test into Music.apk to ignore files less than 30sec (I have my voicemails through Visual Voicemail and Google Voice)

guys this rom is ****. i flashed a number of times, then i wiped all partitions and tried again. dosent work just g1 boot loops, im going to stop seeding. dont trust this guy this rom is bad

LOL, dude, why are people keep thinking any Rom based on the same rom works better? Wake up people. If you use Cyanogen, use Cyanogen, If you use Dwang, use Dwang. any other so call hack does not make it better. Wake up, wake Up. Wake Up. LOL.
I have been using the so call Ram hack, it does NOT make it better after long hour of usage. It slows it down. At least on my G1. I reverted back to Stock boot img, it just WORKS.

Congrats on Hero_over on the retirement, but you didnt have to mention my name in your post. I dont even consider myself a ROM developer, I just made a nice rom thats fast and stable for me, and I wanted to share. I dont want nor expect donations. I just love this community and I figure maybe someone out there would like this ROM. Its all love though.
i have this rom that i've made and have been using for the past two-three weeks. as i've been going along i've been tweaking it to my liking, and its very fast for me and i have no force closes. i wasn't even going to post this rom, but i thought maybe somebody out there would like it.
First off: G1 (HTC Dream) ONLY!!!! They say it works for mt3g, so you can try but I made it for the G1.
its based on dwangs 1.17.1 rom.
i edited the boot.img to include cyanogen's 4.2.12.2 kernel ( NO ramhack, so you can enjoy 3D games and apps)
i added the black statusbar
added nano so you can edit scripts in terminal on-the-fly
ext 2 through 4 supported
automatic a2sd!
added meltus audio hack v2r2
edited alot of pngs.. themed STOCK launcher with nexus tray
eclair contacts.apk
youtube 1.5.08
eclair calculator
compcache working...
userinit.sh support in /system/sd/

REQUIREMENTS
DANGER SPL and UPDATED RADIO (THE NORM)
ext 2-4 partition
swap partition if you want.
PLEASE WIPE DATA BEFORE YOU FLASH!!!
Sidenote:I never usually wipe my entire ext partition before I flash any ROM. If you have access to a linux box and sd card reader I usually just delete the DALVIK-CACHE folder and APP-PRIVATE... although my APP-PRIVATE is always empty. I think what causes the crashing at boot when you don't erase the ext is the dalvik-cache. I leave my APP folder and my userinit.sh there, and when I reboot and it dexopts all of my apps and when it finally starts up all my apps are there from the beginning. NOW! You might have to reinstall some apps which might FC when you try to run it, but you can easily with a file manager and browsing to /system/sd/app/ and reinstalling.​
But that's just me, I find that more convenient that reinstalling 111 apps one-by-one. If thats too much...

I'll also add the userinit.sh that I use for me it's makes it pretty fast, it just sets cpu max to 528, min to 384 Mhz. Compcache with 24 MB dize size, without swap partition. Backing swap with 16 MB mem limit, with swap partition, 30 swappiness. Just unzip then, adb push to /system/sd/.
Eclair STOCK theme'd launcher... I dont use advanced launcher, I'm pretty sure you can just "rm -r /system/app/Launcher" and then adb push advanced launcher to /system/app/ if you want to use that.

Very Cool. I had done something similar myself when I got tired of 3d apps not working cuz of the ramhack except mine was too buggy for my liking. I will try it out and see how the speed compares with dwangs/cyan's (came from dwang to cyan and not diggin it ). I'll post back with some results!
EDIT: Just installed and started playing around with it. Everything seems good so far. One thing is that i got FC on installation. I figured out that eventually when i got past the FC and activated that either there was a problem during setup that the keyboard IME did not get installed or you forgot to include them. No worries. I just pulled them from another rom and installed and all is dandy. Gonna restore some apps and see how that goes and give another update when I can.

If you had a backup, just restore from that and then you can check your radio version. Aside from that just make sure you wiped before installing.

It hangs on G1 screen, I have the latest radio and SPL installed.

you are right i did not include a keyboard IME. Myself I perfer the HTC_IME and it can only be adb installed to the phone, instead of being build into the ROM. If you want I can include a new version with LatinIME.apk included.

i fixed it in the boogiedonut.1 update as well as missing keyboard

Extremely fast.
But... I have a couple of problems
My Pro's and Con's
Pros:
1.Extremely fast, no lag on the launcher at all.
2. It even speeds up dolphin broswer for some reason.
3. Fast, fast, fast.
Cons:
1. Did notice only three homescreens, had gotten used to 5 but no biggie. Maybe an update if demanded by enough members?
2. Some of my widgets (Including Paid:Weather Flip clock) get stuck on updating. All Mippin mobile widgets get stuck on updating too. Edit: fixed with a reboot, sorry about that mate.
3. Missing spare parts, can I just add that in myself?
I'm running on 96mb swap, did a full wipe, came from Latest Cyan .12 I think.

Would like to see a 5-screens-launcher too.
Maybe you could integrate the Advanced Launcher (user can select the number of screens)

I'm for 5 screens, but against AdvancedLauncher. It has not been updated for a long time and seems to be slowing down the phone quite a bit.

Here it is! Pancake! Based off Gumbo, it's one of the fastest Cupcake ROM's for the Sprint Hero! It includes some must-have applications, like wifi-tether and a file manager, and has apps2sd enabled. In order for APPS2SD to work, you must of formatted your SDcard to fat32 + ext2 + swap. To do this, simply boot into recovery, copy all the files you want to keep to your PC, because this WILL FORMAT YOUR SD CARD! and then press 'Part SD: fat32+ext2+swap', copy your files back onto the SD card, and reboot. This boot might take longer than usual, while it copies all your applications to your SD card. Enjoy the ROM!

Well, I would test it out without a wipe, but if it gives you errors, wipe. Let me know how it goes. As always, let me know if you want anything, I'll be very happy to change stuff or add things for you.

didnt do a wipe.so far so good.uninstalled setcpu as well.uninstalled the stock sprint app's too...not im looking for a transparent lock screen and transparent notification slide down menu thing,just like the ones in fresh..will keep updating.

I hqve found that the fresh kitchen really only works for fresh app uninstall, it doesnt work on modaco either.

So, fully understanding I should know this, but what is the difference between having SenseUI and not?

Basically, if you want the pretty stock home look, you want SenseUI. If you want android's stock home screen, get the nosense package. You could pretty much try both and see how you like each one.

Could we drop all the sprint apps except sprint navigation? Believe it or not I use that on occasion because so far I haven't found a google maps app for 1.5 with TTS. Also if you wanted to integrate 'swype lite' as the keyboard, that'd be cool too, otherwise I'll just install that later.
I'll be flashing this for the first time later tonight, MoDaCo + Gumbo's kernel has been working for me, but I'm feeling the urge to switch it up again, and anything faster is good!

[PATCH] WG Kernel with RamHack for King's 2.3

Hey all, there were requests for Wes' Kernel and the 10MB ramhack, so I thought I would try to entertain them. This will change out king's kernel in SenseHybrid 2.3 for Wes' 10MB RamHack kernel. This will also run 32MB of compcache on boot up, Swap partition is still required for A2SD. If you want to run a swap partition, I recommend EXT4 and to use Notepad++ (windows program for editing linux files) to change your /system/bin/user.conf
Now the fun part.
Instructions:
-Wipe everything! (This ONLY works from a fresh install!!!)
-Install King's 2.3 SenseHybrid (Please follow his directions.)

I updated the link in the initial post. Thank you. Other than that, I think there are plenty of good Dev's that are working on the 2.1 field. I am really new to this and do not have anywhere near the experience that they do. This was a request from another post that I had earlier. I like the 1.5 hero because of the almost full functionality (minus BT.) 2.1 is a great platform, but until the drivers are released, it is frustrating. I was beside myself when they were reverse engineered for the Camera app to be enabled. People here work really hard on these roms. In any event, I hope people will make use of this.

I just flash_image'd the boot.img on my installation... What are the differences in doing that over flashing the entire zip?

crap didn't notice wifi was broken -_-
Too lazy to sift through all the other changes this patch makes in order to get wg kernel... 2.3 is fast enough

Now that im using this kernel, when ppl call me their name/picture doesnt show up... its as if i dont have their number, when i really do. it even asks me if i want to store their number after the call... so for whatever reason it isnt recognizing my contacts when they call. it does recognize them when i get a text.

Issue?

I didn't have this issue when I ran trials, but I will try to reload. Are you using EXT4 partition? You may also want to try to re-sync your information in Settings/Data Syncronization. Also, I just want to make sure that you installed this patch from a fresh wipe and didn't flash it over the other patches that I made (I noticed you tried the CM ones as well.)
Let me know if either of these work or help.

yes im using ext4 and yes i flashed it over a fresh wipe. when i make a call, the contact is recognized as it should, its just incoming calls that dont work.
i just resynced contacts and that didnt make a difference for me.
side question: ive seen it mentioned in other threads that you should wipe davlik cache, battery stats, and rotate settings in addition to the factory reset wipe and repartitioning. how do you wipe those first 3?

If you download Amon_ra's recovery and flash it, when you are in recovery mode, there will be an option under wipe. Still looking into camera issue.

No, you are not the only one with this issue. I flashed it two times after wipe. But the camera still broken.

DT APP2SD - New Way of flashing ROMS?

OK...Let's get something out of the way before anyone start getting irate with me and saying things they shouldn't be about this thread does not belong here...
THIS IS NOT A ROM...does it have to do with Development? I believe so....
We have always been instructed by every ROM Devs that we have to WIPE Everything in order to get our ROMs stable and running as it should...well this post goes counter to what you've been told by almost any post on XDA-Dev
I am addicted to flashing ROMs to see which best suits my needs, however the pain of having to install my apps (I have more than 150...don't ask) usually kept me from trying as many as I would like to....started thinking about how DT APP2SD work...since it is a partition that is completely separated from where the ROM is flashed...WHY DO WE HAVE TO WIPE IT??? So, I started flashing different ROMs, from ICS, Gingerbread to even Froyo to test my theory. Low and behold...more than 95% of my apps held intact (albeit no DATA - you can use Titanium or MyBackup Root to restore the Apps Data) with no hiccups when running from one ROM to another. I have flashed from AOSP to SENSE to MIUI...same result, my apps remain intact as long as I wipe EVERYTHING EXCEPT the SD-EXT...DALVIK CACHE HAS TO WIPE...even though part of it is on the Extension!!!
The reason why is simple. Any DEVs that baked DT APP2SD into their ROMs essentially call for this partition at boot...and once the ROM call for this partition...all the apps that are located in there still remain and the ROM uses it as if it was part of the ROM.
Also, I have even tested it so extensively that I flashed a Sense, an AOSP and ICS independently - after making sure my ROM was stable, reboot to RECOVERY and plug my phone to my PC running Linux....automatically the SD EXT pops up and I dropped all my apps (again, more than 150) to it...and KABOOM!!! Upon reboot...all my apps started showing up.
Again, I have no intent to take space from the DEVs who are doing a GREAT job supporting our phones....
I am posting this in the hope of helping those who flash often and also the Devs themselves from having to reinstall all their apps everytime they flash a new ROM.
If the MODs feels like this does not belong here...please feel free to move it. I think that it could play an integral role in development to all the Devs out there, hence why I am posting it here.
PS: I am not here every day, I have two little ones and a beautiful wife that I try spend as much time with...so please be patient with me if you PM me for more details on how to do this.

I have done this before and it does work. The only thing that keeps me from doing this is the lack of the ability to do a batch data only restore with titanium. Am I missing something? How do u quickly restore the data to your apps?

Would it not depend on the ROM your flashing?

i've been doing this for awhile, jus thought it was common knowledge. there have been some apps that FC, but i'm a FLASH chronic, and reinstall apps wud suck. ROOT UNINSTALLER is also a great app to do BU's.

I've done the same thing a couple times in the past (between CM and Sense) but always had nagging doubts that I was screwing something up somehow... Good to know that someone has taken the time to confirm that this is actually a reasonably safe process! I just had to do a nightmare manual one-by-one app restore on a ROM I flashed but I'm glad that now I can comfortably use this trick in the future.

The reason for a full wipe is that most people don't have their sd card partitioned.I myself have partitioned mine and do exactly what you suggested and it does work,i figured this out after wiping the sd-exta few times,1 time i decided not to,i noticed my apps were still there after i installed another rom.Of course if you have a google account,google keeps your apps and contacts backed up.

Would this also apply for those that have partitioned sd and have a Sense 3.0~3.5 ROM installed? Question is because some devs, if not all, set the rom to save part of the rom on sd-ext partition.

I have been doing this all the time for sense and asop roms, works great. Off topic - wiping more than once is BS unless you have bad nand or using bad wiping program.

Happy to see that some of you find this information useful. I just didn't want to get screamed at for posting it here.

It should have no impact because essentially your app folder is where everything is kept. If the Dev add some system info to the Ext it won't mess with your apps.
