hi all im new to XDA and have recently bought a sensation on orange (uk), ive just had a update and now am having issues with the whole screecapture that they seem to have dropped in.
the issue im having is constantly taking screencaspture's when i press home without pressing the off/lock key i have had a read about and been told it can be fixed but i need to "ROOT" my device first, now im a complete newb to android or anything technical (loving my droid thou) and just want to know does rooting affect the warranty at all? and could any old idiot do it? i.e. me!
also once rooted what are the benefits of this?
thanks for any help you can offer and i hope this is in the correct section sorry if its not
if you root it, its pretty difficult to UNroot back to original (at least for me)
you tried other alternatives other than rooting ? I duuno... probably like revert back to the one you updated ?

Hi - I'm no developer, just a fan. I've read all the rules, terms, threats about what happens if you don't SEARCH first - guys I've done it all and for a long time. I have been studying up on how to root my MoPhoton 4g since I got it last August. I think I'm finally ready....but now I'm afraid I'm too late. I got involved in that soak test, which installed 2.3.5. Now, if I've searched/read acs and xda correctly (and other less intelligent sites), here's where I am:
There is no way to downgrade from 2.3.5
Shabbypenguin's wonderfully simple and sweet One Root won't do the trick on 2.3.5 (and boy did I try it MANY times). Had correct drives installed, etc...but no go. I assume you guys know what I'm talking about, but I can and will paste what the script read if you need me too. Short story...got all the way to "you should have root"....but I don't.
Currently the only way to do it is with a root method called Torpedo....which I don't know enough about yet but I'm about to get into it...
And finally, even if I get root, I won't have bootloader, again, because of 2.3.5.
Sound about right so far? If so, here's my big question:
If I can ONLY root for now, will I obtain the benefits I am looking for (mainly increasing/unleashing the SPEED I know this phone is capable of, and fixing whatever problem has always caused this phone to flicker it's wifi on and off and on and off constantly all the time, even in the same location....it drives me up the wall! Also, I'd like to get free wireless hotspot too, cause if you're gonna dream, dream big.
Thanks guys
I got a little confused reading your post, so sorry if this isn't the answer you are looking for...
Rooting would help you in a lot of ways, but the full potential of the phone is unlocked with custom roms and kernels...
For wifi on off, go to settings>wireless and network> wifi, and then press menu, select "advanced"...and see "wifi sleep policy" is set to "never"...

Thanks for the response. Allow me to clarify:
Yes, I do want to root and install CM 7 or CM9, but if I can't unlock bootloader that's not possible....correct? If so, I'm hoping someone will tell me I'm wrong about one or more of my earlier assumptions (see bulleted list in OP).
Sorry, but I do not know the way around locked bootloaders...my device has an unlocked bootloader, and this makes job fairly simple...
Does you device have a subforum at xda? If so, then ask this over there, and you shall receive specific help there...
Or wait here for someone with more experience with locked bootloaders...
(P.s. look on over at youtube, you may find an answer)

Hi all, it's been a while since I have posted here, but I am in need of some help. I am not an experienced rooter (if that is a word), but I dabble in what I can, and do a lot of research on the subject, and this forum has helped me over the years to achieve my goals, however, I think I may have gotten in a little over my head here.
Here's the situation, my mother in law has an HTC Evo 3D that she received as an upgrade sometime last year on the Sprint network (US), but is now is not activated and just sits in her desk until it can be used again. I was trying to help her to find a cheaper phone company that would allow her to keep her phone without paying an arm and a leg to use it. I told her I would do what I could, but I couldn't guarantee anything. I recently found a post on here that had instructions on how to flash the Evo 3D to the Onessa Boosted (Boost Mobile) Essentials ROM, and I thought it was going to be an easy fix.
Long story short, I rooted the phone, flashed it with the ROM and I ended up with a constant boot loop. I tried to go back to stock, but couldn’t because my dumba$$ forgot to back up the stock rom in the recovery menu and I only ended up unrooting the phone, now I don't know what to do. Now when I boot the phone, it keeps taking me back to the fastboot menu, and it won’t let me use any of the functions in there. I just hope I didn't brick the phone. I don't want to come back to her empty handed, but I feel if I cannot receive any help here, I may have to. Any help that you can provide would be extremely useful at this point.

Hey guys, I'm considering going with they option of rooting my HTC Sensation, but I'd like to clear something up beforehand.
At the moment Im on a pay monthly contract with my HTC Sensation and I pay monthly for insurance on the handset, before I go rooting my phone, if for some reason I need to send this phone off to my provider will my insurance be void? Or is this just the case if I haven't managed to return the phone to stock setup?
Id really like to try rooting my phone, but I dont want to have the problem of not being able to send the phone off for repairs or whatnot in the future. By repairs, obviously Im not referring to any problem that could occur during the rooting process, I mean more in the sense of hardware issues etc.
Any help is appreciated, and I apologise if this has been asked/answered before, I did do a forum search but found nothing.
Thanks.
You can S-Off your device without unlocking the bootloader over HTCdev. This way you can root and flash custom ROMs/kernels without loosing your warrenty.
If you have issues and you have to send the phone in, you can just run an RUU for you phone and S-On it again. Nobody would know that you have rooted it.
And if you want to S-Off take a look at the Hboot version! Hboot 1.2x has a different and more difficult way of S-Off'ing.
Oh right, how would I go about S-off'ing my phone? Would it still require me to go through the whole root process first off?
Thanks for your help
First we have to know your H boot version to direct you to the proper guide. To find out, pull battery, put battery back in, then at the same time press power and volume down button. Hold. Then you will see a screen pop up. Look at the information on Top of the screen. Then tell us your H Boot version. by the
Way, I also pay insurance every month on my device and I'm rooted and S off. If anything should happen I would restore back to stock and S on again. This way they would not know device was rooted. Hope this helps.

Just did as you asked and my H boot version is 1.27.0000. That is what I was curious about, the whole insurance deal.
My main reason for considering rooting is to be able to theme my phone a bit more than what a launcher lets me, so what is recommended for this, just rooting, just S-off'ing or both?
Thanks

Both process are reversible, once its s-off and rooted, just dont change your hboot and your good to go. I had the same concern, yet when i needed to return my phone for the warranty, they never even cared and sent me the other one without question (after i turned back the s-on of course). Follow Ganesh's guide here: https://www.google.com/url?q=http:/...ds-cse&usg=AFQjCNGNDWtlRFM7pBTIlQr-Y6Vd4nJEgw
Very easy and completely safe!
BoB!!
I suggest rooting and S off. I don't regret it for a second! I try all kinds of awesome roms and I'm able to customize to exactly how I want things! It's been a totally positive experience for me. As I mentioned in above post, I too pay the extra insurance monthly. If there we're a issue I'd return to stock. As above member mentioned he did it and didn't have any problems. I think once your rooted and s off you will be very happy. But do take the extra effort to s off because it's worth it in the long run and makes things easier for you, You will have the ability to do more with s off. Best wishes.

Oh right, thanks you guys. I now feel more able to go ahead and root, now I just need to decide whether I think Im capable of doing it correctly.
Just had a look at that link you posted BobThaBear, it looks abit on the daunting side so Im going to have a long, hard think about it first.
Thanks for all of the help though, its very much appreciated
Hi folks-
Sorry for what might be stupid questions but I'm super excited about this phone, and I just want to get it working right so I don't break it like I did my last one. I am trying to get this to work on T-Mobile in the USA.
I flashed my phone to a stock Gingerbread yesterday, and then flashed a stock ICS on top of it. When I started things up within the ICS OS with my sim card in, it started asking me for a network lock control key.
Ultimately, I need this phone to be in an unrooted state for software I have installed through work (it scans for superuser/root, quarantines you if it finds it). Is there any way I can unlock this phone again - through flashing or software - without rooting the phone?
Or, if I go the "root" route, is there any way that will maintain the software that's in the phone - like, without completely flashing a new OS? And if so, can I disable the software from running while the root is on and the unlock is taking place?
I am happy to clarify any questions - I am learning all about this and am thankful I have a Samsung to work with (since Samsung seems to be simpler than all others) - but I have had little to no success with rooting in the past and so would consider myself a complete novice. I've read through the forums and found similar solutions for Galaxy Note/Galaxy SIII but do not know how applicable they are to this beautiful piece of machinery that is the Galaxy R.
Thanks in advance. Sorry if this is a stupid question
Hello Fellow XDA Members,
I am about to purchase my T-Mobile LG G2 as of tomorrow. Coming over from a Nexus 4 rooted / stock / Xposed. I am very excited about. This phone really caught my eye from beginning against the advice of my friends to wait for the Galaxy S5. This is the one I want. Of course there are tons of perks to being rooted and it's usually the first thing I do when I get a new phone. One thing I noticed about this phone is there doesn't seem to be an inclusive *ROOT* thread and I am not sure where to start other than the regular stuff; ADB enabled, drivers installed, etc. Also I know this phone is in sort of a transitional update to Android 4.0 presently (although this doesn't apply to T-Mobile as of this writing). So, I guess what I am looking for is.
1. Can someone link me a solid thread to ROOT instructions for the T-Mobile variant or is it carrier specific? Does it even matter?
2. Are there any special things I should know about like ( I recently helped a friend fix his LG Optimus due to the fact that he did not have an unlocked bootloader, rooted it and uninstalled system apps and got himself in a bootloop / soft brick) because the phone had some special *EVIL* software that would do that without first unlocking the bootloader.
3. Is there any "going back" from root on the LG G2? I mean I was reading something about root detecting, warranty voiding software. So, in other words if I get the device tomorrow and have it rooted by tomorrow night, then over the weekend I notice a weird glitch that would be covered under warranty, am I S.O.L. because I rooted it or can I flash back to stock and unroot and RMA the device?
4. Anything else I should know about that is an issue for the LG G2 during the root / romming process or otherwise.
Also I would like to thank everyone again. Going on my 4th device using only XDA as my source of info and help and still 100% HARD brick free and I plan to keep it that way. IMHO I don't see how people use phones unrooted. Thanks for the help! See you around the forums.

Awesome phone and great choice I totally agree.
Proceed with caution though, I have extensive experience with android phones and this one has turned into a flourishing source of nightmares for me and is seeming to head towards a total "paperweight" story. This all stems from rooting and recovery installation and such obviously, I am sure if you leave it untouched it is fantastic.
Just make sure you follow things EXACTLY as told. :good:

Well, I'm not one to ever leave anything untouched. What has been the main issue? Finding credible threads? Roms, etc? One thing confusing for me is I've been kinda used to the T-Mobile thread or the AT&T thread. Seems like this is mostly compiled into one with the development section being separated.

Neither am I trust me. i would never sport a locked/crippled/stock device.
There is a lot of info out there honestly. Search for Ioroot and read about that, it's pretty awesome basically an automated rooting software.
Hardest thing for me has been all kind of compatibility/driver issues. Had to use multiple computers, x64 and x86 architectures.
But there are obviously loads of people out there enjoying this phone. I am just part of the select few who had issues.
You should go for it seriously, the display is breathtaking, I have pretty large hands and this is the first time I have had one that feels just perfect in one hand which is huge to me. Can't comment much on the using of it since it only worked for about a day and a half before i wrecked it apparently .
It seems very intuitive though, the camera is really awesome too. Being a photographer I was really impressed by the menu flow and the amount of options you have. Its really amazing that they include cameras like these at the price the phone sells for.
Is it dangerous to uninstall system apps or LG apps once rooted? On my friends Optimus that's what jacked him up. If you didn't have an unlocked bootloader and you just simply rooted and removed system apps then you would get a soft brick. Is there any similar issues here?
