Sorry if you were looking for an answer, but I am getting immensely frustrated while using my Android when it seems every 5th YouTube video says either "it is not available for mobile" or "content owner has not made this available for mobile".
I have tried the obvious, like changing useragents and fiddling with the http request, but it remains simply a fact that if my phone is providing information which enables it to be determined that it is a in fact a phone, then this can be changed so it does not provide such information.
I am using my home wifi, so some Telco IP address is not the issue.
Come on... This issue seems to be getting more prevalent, and as the vanguard of Android users, if we cannot figure this out, it will break my spirit.
But the above is true. To wit: how is my phone telling YouTube it is a phone, irrespective of what browser i use, what video player I choose, and how the user-agent is set?
Where could this trigger be coming from?
Thanks!

There is a button at the bottom of the YouTube page that says desktop. This requires flash to view though.

Anyone know how to make it point at m.facebook instead of www .facebook?
no one else sees the when selecting, for example, a notification?
I have the same problem, although I want it to open on touch.facebook.com not m.facebook.com personally. I don't think it is a Froyo issue more of a newest version of the FB problem. I had this problem on my Incredible with 2.1
It looks like it was on Facebook's side, it is now redirecting properly & I havent started tweaking things for it yet.
Seems I spoke too soon, its intermittently showing www over the m site

Those settings are where?

Yeah... this annoys me greatly. Stupid Facebook.
Does anyone know how to redirect YouTube links to the HTC YouTube App versus the Microsoft YouTube app? Figure its sone file association in the reg but not sure where to look.
Sent from my Samsung Focus using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
It's pretty easy to change the redirect itself. The relevant key is HKCR\vnd.youtube, which defines a URI handler (the way the redirect works is that when YouTube's servers see the WP7 browser user-agent, they send links like "vnd.youtube:<video ID>" which WP7 then opens in the YouTube app). Changing two registry values under that key, replacing the App ID of the YouTube app with the ID of the HTC app, would make those links open in the HTC app.
The problem is that the HTC app doesn't expect to be opened this way, so it won't check for command line parameters. Instead, it'll just open as though you'd selected it from the app list. This probably isn't the behavior you're hoping for.
Sure isn't... makes me wonder why Microsoft force/locked the app to their default browser and then handicapped it to a poor and useless existance.... I assume we are stuck with this situation with all the YouTube apps including SuperTube?

Thanks for this explanation... so at the moment is quite impossible for us to make this association between the browser youtube links and htc youtube app... WP7 makes me angry sometimes, it's so nice in some aspects but makes you feel powerless when you try to do even basic stuff with it.

Is this hackable to make it work with non-Us region settings? This will at least easy the pain a bit
how to find the id of youtube htc
I get the feeling many don't feel the same as I do (I get this feeling from my utter lack of success on Google with this), but is there a way to prevent the Youtube app from clearing the search bar after every search?
I like to watch a lot of episodic content and, of course, I would search for it using terms like 'Comedy Show Episode 01', but doing this is a bit more difficult due to how the Youtube app seems to clear the search bar after every search. Of course, if I also misspell a word during my search, I'd end up after to rewrite the entire thing.
Is there a way/tweak to allow my search queries to remain?
Copy it to your clipboard the first time you type it and change the number.

Well, thanks for suggestion about copy/paste, but the reason I didn't use that to begin with is that I'm usually inter-switching between using Youtube, surfing various information websites, reading Kindle books, commenting on websites, and etc. More often than not, my clipboard is already filled with some other important notes I intend to use later.
Yes, I also understand I could simply copy/paste the note somewhere else to re-use the clipboard, but I was hoping for a quicker/simpler solution. If there isn't one, I will do it that way, but just keeping a bit of hope.
Ya I see why that wouldn't really work.

Well, no matter. There doesn't appear to be any solution to my issue, so I guess using the clipboard in tandem with a note app is the only method available to me.
Thanks for responding to my thread.
I am new on xda-dev. I find it very difficult to use this website.
First there were a lot of issues related to registering and login and now after i can login there are so many other prob.
The text jumps and flickers like a monkey for ages, and the page continues to load.
It was even difficult to search for things on the forum or even start a new thread.
Every time i had to keep pressing the browser stop button to stop loading the page.
The image does not loads for image verification and so i can not post any message.
Just for your info i use No script in my browser but even if i allow scripts on this page still i face a lot of trouble.
First you do not let people register, then you do not let them login and then you do not let them search for solutions or start a new thread.
Dont we have a simple version of this site where i could focus just on exactly what i am here for.
I do not need so much of spoon feeding in the name of interactivity and user friendliness.
Please advise.

I can not even use it from my computer.
In some browsers it can not be opened at all.
Too irritating.
Takes ages to post one comment.
Switching over the forum style to classic solved a lot of problem.
But the Captcha image still takes ages to load.
I have to close and reopen the browser many times.
Search still creates a lot of problem.
.
The problem is not why there is Captcha but why is it not opening easily.
Anyway for your info. after a new member posts 10 replies he does not gets captcha
I just wanted suggestion regarding what should be done to be able to easy communicate on this forum. Thanx all of you.
Every time i try to start a new thread, i have to write the title. The system is supposed to search for similar threads. BUT as soon as i do so the entire page refreshes and then there is nothing there on the screen. I have to keep doing that again and again. What a foolish way of making a website. I do not need so much of spoon feeding. Dont we have a simpler interface ?
What you describe never happened to me, even when I was new.
I think you need to focus on troubleshooting your computer/browser instead of complaining about the xda website.

What browsers are you using because I use it with Firefox and Opera without problem on my computer and have even browsed with my phones default browser without issue and am now using the xda app an I have less then 10 posts do you have cookies allowed or JavaScript enabled on your web browsers? That may or may not help

I have tried, Firefox, Midori and Konquror on two different OS, Ubuntu and Mint but every where I faced some problem or the other. As i mentioned earlier, after i changed the website interface to 'classic' the problem reduced but did not end. Now mainly have problem with Capcha not loading at times or with the auto search of the title of a new thread. I feel the site is made more pro-mobile than for computer use. If some one has not faced these problems at any time does not means that there is somthing wrong with my system. The first time when I registered on this forum the entire page was simply flickering every moment, it would have been worth making a video of that I have been using dozens of forums but never had any trouble of this kind. I feel the system could have been made simpler.
With all the people who blatantly ignore the rules and requests, I don't think a ten post limit with CAPTCHA is all that unreasonable.
I like Linux a lot, but I don't think it's out of line to suggest the trouble lies in browser or OS support especially since Linux tends to be more persnickety than Windows due to market share and development, no matter where you want to place the blame for that.
If someone is having these problems outside of Linux, details would help narrow it down.
At any rate, it's not the forum's requests that are at fault, but the integration with something or lack of support.

Seems you did not even understand the question. The question is not WHY there is captcha but why it is creating trouble loading. And if it is bcoz of linux then it is strange as captcha is used in many other websites and no where i face any problem. Moreover there are others too who have faced other problems here. And i am not just facing captcha prob there are a host of other prob that makes using the website very difficult. Also how is it that there is problem some times and not there on other ocations ? If it was due to linux it would have been there always ! I would also like to remind you that Android is also built on Linux kernel. And any website that is highly OS specific is not a well planned website. Anyway it was just a feedback to help the site owners improve it "IF" they wish to. If they dont i can always find my way out
Thanx all of you for your help.

Please forgive me if this has already been posted, or if it's regarded as common knowledge. I couldn't find mention of this anywhere in the S4 forums, so I figured that it might not be widely known.
I was reading a post about a hidden debug menu in the stock browser for a different device, so I thought I would try it in the S4, and it works!
Open the browser.
In the url bar, type chrome://debug
It should say "This web page is not available". Ignore that message, but don't close the tab.
Then press menu and tap settings. You will see a new menu item: Debug.
In there, you will see a hidden menu of settings including, most interestingly, an option 'UAString' which lets you change the user agent ID which tells websites what browser you are using. In other words, you can set your browser to tell websites that you're using a desktop, or an iPhone, or a tablet, etc. Other browsers, like Dolphin or Boat Browser, have this option. You can use it to avoid getting mobile versions of websites by default, or to access certain features on websites only available to iPhone users.
Once again, I apologise if this is old news. Let me know if it is
Hope it's helpful.
