Has anyone tried adding chat to Facebook app?

Why does android not have Facebook with chat. Android has been out for some time now but still nothing.
There latest update is by far the best and performance wise it actually works better than previous versions.
I don't know if its possible but has someone tried to insert chat. There is so much rom development so there must be people capable of modifying this app.

The Facebook app isn't open source.

Is there no way to modify it. Everything is possible these days

go! chat on the market works well

There's a version of bloo that has chat enabled that's floating around. It doesn't have the fancy new photoscroller or inbox features, but it DOES have chat if that's what you want.

Was supposed to say Palringo. It's free in the market and works awesome.

The AIM app works really well too. Can check FB updates from within the app as well.

if you use ninjamorph you can alter the .xml files in .apk's. can't someone create a .xml file that adds chat support? Or can't someone take the facebook app piece for piece via astro and add chat support and add an icon in one of the blanks on the main homepage? that seems do-able.

[Q] places on facebook/android question

How does places work with facebook for android? when my iphone friends post something it give options to select people and says something like 'steve smith was at your moms house with steve smith.'. does this not work on android?

I have done it, but only on the browser site, not in or sorry excuse for a facebook app. When you are on the touch facebook site there is a little map marker icon beside your status update box. Clicking that or the places tab gives you the option to check-in and tag people.

im on the touch site now via opera mini...i am not given a map icon next to my status update text field. when i click on the places tab from the home screen, i only see a few friends check ins and still cant check in or tag people.
is it opera? the stock browser sucks

Its the icon to the right of where you update your status. That whole bring up GPS and allow you to "check in" from the touch site even using the stock browser.

I was on the stock browser, haven't tried with opera.

The app is supposed to update with that feature as well per their announcement today.

Yup. New version, 1.4.0, has places built in.

Hi folks, an updated Facebook for Android app (1.4.0) is now available for download. New features include:
- Groups: share posts with small groups of friends
- Places: share where you are with friends, see where friends are, discover places nearby
- Improved notifications: view comments and updates within the app

I thought it was going to be crappy update again because I got a force close 2 or 3 times when I first installed it, but after I rebooted it worked fine and seems to be a much better update than the last one.

Better Facebook app?

Hi guys,just wondering whether anyone can help to create a better Facebook app?The official Facebook app is great but just some issues with it.I can't seem to view photos that doesn't come with a album and sometimes,the Birthday of some people aren't shown.Lastly,maybe a function to be able to view your mutual friends with a certain someone would be great! This Facebook 'part' I unfortunately feel that the iPhone Facebook app is actually better...So please,any app developer for a better Facebook app???

Bloo 1.5, not available on market, but you can probably find it at any of the popular file charing websites (mods: its a free app, so im not promoting warez)...or if youd like i can upload the .apk for you to download and try out
It has chat, notifications for EVERYTHING (including wall/status posts, photo comments, etc.), birthday alerts...pretty much everything

I just tried this but I can't get facebook to give me the six digit code I need. I gives me an error to try again later. I guess I'll have to do that and see what happens.

a lot of people have this issue. i pulled this from the developers blog (http://fbandroid.wordpress.com/), give it a shot, and report back
Update: Kate from the comments provided some instructions to get the 6 digit code! Thank you Kate!
1. In your browser, enter in http://m.facebook.com (this will bring up the mobile site)log-in to your facebook account.
2. In the “Search” box at the BOTTOM of the page type in “Bloo for Android” and click on “Search”.
3. Click on the application “Bloo for Android” (NOT the group).
4. Then click on the button that says “Allow”. This will link your Facebook account with Bloo.
5. Now, from your phone go to your Bloo application and click on “Get Code” and it should take you to the code page!
6. Enjoy!
*Note* I used the m.facebook.com site directly from my PC, I didn’t try it on my phone… so if it doesn’t work on your phone, try it on your home computer.
I hope this helps out a lot of people!

That wireless flawlessly. You saved me alot of time later on trying to figure that out. There is one option I see missing. The search option. I don't want to scroll through all my friends just to get to one of their pages.

well you can either use the side scroller, or long press your phones menu button to bring up your keyboard, and it searches as you type
or if your phone has a search button, just press that
One more thing: keep in mind this app isnt flawless, it may suck your battery a little bit....and also ive noticed that if you get multiple notifications in a shrot period of time, it might skip over some......other than those two things, its certainly good enough that ive been using it since its release

Guys I need help.I can't seem to view photos of myself or other people.It says there's no album.And events are not shown too...

You cant easily click a photo on the facebook apps stream and have it point you to the photo, usually it dumps you to the profile instead...
Sort of on topic sort of off topic...
I don't think people should have to make better alternatives to the Facebook app.
I think facebook should get their bloody act together and give us a suitable app that:
Has all the features of the utterly fantastic Iphone one.
DOES NOT RAPE BATTERY.
If everyone rates it 1 star we will get an update. simple as that...
Personally I have uninstalled Facebook, wiped it from the system folder, I use SyncMyPix for contact photos and I use Tweetdeck to pull in my facebook updates. for anything else I need on facebook I use the touch site...because what the app carried on sending you to anyway...
Ive noticed ive gained 3hours per charge since uninstalling all traces of facebook. It is just poorly coded, poorly presented, crippled bloatware.

The new F-plus on the market is pretty good. Offers push notifications and news feed now. Doesnt have chat. Go facebook chat is pretty good though.

I definintely like f+ better, I think I'll keep it and use it.

It got better than 1.6 at least now the pictures are view-able in the news feed.

Let's hope it's improved from 1.6, problems galore with 1.6.

Is there anyway to default the News Feed to show Most Recent rather than Top News? I use the app because I want to quickly peek in and see what's happening now-ish. Not a post from yesterday that Facebook decided is important. Thanks in advance.

still? in 1.6 it started with that permission ... either they think that the people are as dumb as the apple junkies or they are so arrogant to believe that people won't notice/care about that.
just look at the market reviews, so many people uninstalling and reporting it as malicious.

Now updated to 1.7. Some small news.
One is that i now can download the app from the market on my 3.2 Asus TF again. Sadly everything(?) is working, except for the news feed.

Somewhat relatedly, has something gone wrong with the official XDA app? Its push notifications stpped working a few months ago for me, and when I try to set them up now it says it can't connect. Anybody else having this problem, or should I just reinstall the app?

Have just searched and installed official XDA app within the UK:
As a long time user of XDA, it's great value at just 79p (£0.79)

Same here. Also everytime I open the app it asks if I want to receive push notifications. Doesn't matter what my settings are, it always asks when opening. And while we're at it, when is this app going to get a BADLY needed update?

Dammit... I guess it's a server-side issue then. For a long time, it was the only app I used the toast notifications for (I typically get several PMs every day now, and it was very handy to get a notification and preview of them without needing to check the website).
Oh well... anybody know who might be responsible for this, and could possible get it working again? Aside from lacking the notifications, the app is great.

The WP7 app was written by someone from http://www.pocketpc.ch/forum/ but I can't find any reference or app thread on that forum The only one thing I've found: official app is a special version of Board Express application, you may try Board Express forum: http://www.board-express.com/forum/index.php
