What class speed does sd slot support?

Does anyone know what class micro sdhc card to get for the Skyrocket? I don't want to waste money on a class 10 if it only needs a class 4 or 6.

It supports all those classes. I recommend getting a class 4 sandisk, that's good for both read / write speeds and reliability.
I'm on a kingston class 4 16GB microsd and although the read speed is quick, writing several small files is incredibly slow.

So would a class 10 card be good or bad? I'm going to keep my eye out for Black Friday deals. Maybe I can get a good price on a 16 or 32 GB card, but I was just unsure of what class would be the best bang for the buck. Thanks for the info.

I m using Class 10 32GB PNY and its d best! I had class 4 32GB PNY which took more than 2 hour to copy 6GB of music, but class 10 it copied 17GB of Music and 6GB of pics within hour. SO i would suggest getting 10 class.

I have a class 10 16gb and a class 4 32 gb. Would 1 be better than the other or does it really access that much data that it would make a difference.

It's been said that for 1080P video recording you should get at least a Class 6 micro SD card. One with real class 6 speeds, not just insinuated speeds.

According to wikipedia:
Class 4: 32 Mbit/s (4 MB/s)
Class 6: 48 Mbit/s (6 MB/s)
Class 10: 80 Mbit/s (10 MB/s)
But there's a catch:
since video is compressed, you will reach 45 Mb/s only when shooting at non compressable stuff like water, fire, a football game etc etc
That's why many people have success with Class 4 cards.
But as they shoot at something really fast moving or blurred, they will have a lockup.
I strongly suggest, as the manual says, CLASS 6 or higher.
SanDisk Secure Digital video HD (SDHC) seems to be the cheapest class 6.
To make a serious test, set the camera in full 1920x1080 @ 30 fps and shoot while moving around yourself... that will be a reliable test.
If you shoot a still subject I think even a class 4 will always work

Im using a 32gb and my wife has a 16 gb on her S2. No lag on either phones. Super Fast. Highly recommend.

ANY class card WILL work, it will just read at a slower speed if it needs to. i.e if you put a class 10 card but it only supports class 4, the card will work, at class 4 (even though its a class 10 card)
samsung hasn't released the information on speeds for this phone for some reason =(
however, i'd be VERY surprised if it can in fact support class 10 cards.

I stand corrected, I jumped the gun and overlooked the UHS, I did a quick wiki and this is the word...

For future use. Card class is noted on the card itself as well on most cards. You should see a circle with a number in it.
From the picture on the New Egg listing that would mean that this card is a class 10. A lot of the cheaper cards are usually class 4 or below.

[Q] How to check micro sd card speed capability on a phone beforehand

I am going to buy myself a 64GB micro sd card. I guess I will go with sandisk. But as there are certain sd types there come certain speeds. Such as UHS-ll, UHS-I ,and microSDXC. Now I want to make sure that my phone (SM-G3858) Galaxy Beam 2 is able to do r/w at certain speed levels. But how can I determine that? How can I check if the sd card slot takes UHS-I? I can do a micro sd card speed check when I already bought the sd card (with some apps). But is there any way to check the speed compability BEFORE you even buy the sd card?
I did 3 speeds test on my kingston 18GB MicroSDHC/SDHC Class 10 and the sd benchmark tests were ranging from (max): Read 401,31MB/s Write 10,45MB/s (400 seemed a lot to me, but thats what it said) So that would mean my phone supports at least UHS-l?
I was thinking to buy either the Sandisk Extreme at 45r/45w, the Sandisk Ultra Plus at 40r/lower write or the Sandisk Ultra at 30r/lower write. Or should I go with another brand? Any help is appreciated

EDIT: After searching for several hours to find the best 64GB micro sd card I decided to go for the Samsung Evo 64GB. It has full 5 star reviews on amazon and the price was way better than the Sandisk extreme plus. (I paid 37 euros including shipping) This is the best review I found:
"This is a very fast card, particularly suited to not only transferring files quickly but also running as a phone or tablet card for applications as well.
In phones and tablets one of the most important things is not just the transfer speed but also the IOPs that the card can deliver. Many class 10 cards have great transfer speeds but terrible and I mean terrible IOPs, often a 5 year old card easily out performs them in IOPs.
This card delivers in both areas, fast class 10 transfer speeds 23mb read, 15mb write but also 482 write IOPs and 1668 read IOPs.
That's IOP speeds that are slower than an SSD but way faster than a hard disk. Bare in mind that some class 10 cards give 4 write IOPs and you can see why I'm impressed. The only card I have seen outperform it in IOPs it the SanDisk Extreme Pro and they are seriously expensive and not available in 64gb. Testing against the third SanDisk I have, a 32gb ultra, is almost funny as the ultra only gives 15 write IOPs under the same conditions, making this card 30 times faster.
What does this mean for normal use, well it translates into an excellent general purpose card, that even if it doesn't have the official fastest transfer speeds will actually perform much better in the real world. Which is why its getting such rave reviews on here for speed (so long as you get a genuine one!)
This was tested in my Dell Venue 8 tablet using the built in card reader. For the techies (if you've got this far then I assume you are)I am actually using it to run Server 2012 virtual machines in VMWare workstation and the performance is surprisingly good, I would even call it snappy!
Full Crystalmark disk scores below.
Sequential read 23.66mbs write 16.03 mbps
512kb random read 23.25mbs write 15.67 mbps
4k random read 6.40mbps write 1.850 mbps
4k random qd32 6.65mbs write 1.92 mbps
Parameters 5 iterations 1000mb sample size.
Tested on the 64gb Samsung Evo microsdhc."
So anyways..At one point I´ll wait until the price of the Sandisk 128 GB Ultra plus card drops, then check for benchmarks and try out that one. Enjoy the info, im off

Sandisk is having quality issues with 64Gb cards, with many consumers reporting dead cards in a few months.

Lexar 128GB card with Galaxy S5?

Hi,
I picked up Samsung Galaxy S5 and been looking around for some MicroSD card options beyond 32/64GB.
I'm curious to find out if anyone has any experience with Lexar High-Performance microSDHC 633x 128GB UHS-I Flash Memory Card LSDMI128BBNL633R card?
I plan on shooting a lot of videos and hopefully, it won't slow me down!

Hasn't been released so no one knows. But it's definitely fast enough for your S5, these phones don't support high UHS-I speeds

The old version, although it states max 30mb/s, actual test shows it will reach 48mb/s.

i've had two 64GB version, and they don't last too long, but this one states it uses micron chipset, so it could be better quality.

Micro SD card with Note 20 Ultra

I haven't had an android phone with an SD card since the OG Moto G days and I have heard every now and then that the way they're handled has changed?
Will the Galaxy Note 20 still keep the SD card and the internal storage separate and use the SD card for media, or does it combine the two in to a larger storage area?

It is separate. Like having an extra HardDrive on your computer. You can store media files on either or both of them.

It can't merge the two since it uses different technology.
Internal storage is way faster than an SD card.
The two are separated.

"way faster" ..
the SD storage is "way fast" enough for many things you plan to do with the phone. get a fast high speed card (i picked up the 1TB sandisk) .
burst mode on the camera will be forced to internal storage (user cant change that) . i did some early tests yesterday with the phone's video camera in different formats and aspect ratios and the card handled the throughput nicely.

but for installing application, I would prefer on internal storage rather than SD card even with an A2 rated card.

Yes because the constant IO and polling the card consume the battery faster
Plus, there's no security and encrypting / decrypting make it longer.

If you want best speed performance go with the A2 rated Sandisk Extreme or Extreme Pro. They are expensive of course. For my day to day use I just settled with Samsung EVO Plus microSD. Does the job competently at budget friendly price.

I have that one in 256gb it's okay but nowhere near as fast as my lexar 1800x but its only avail in 128gb and is 2x the price of the sandisk for half the storage...worth it? Probably not.

I just bought Kingston 'Canvas Go! Plus' 256GB card, also rated as A2 and I have found a few benchmarks showing it is a bit faster than the Sandisk Extreme Pro at a cheaper price . I have my doubt too but gonna try it when the card arrived. The Kingston card has a lifetime warranty, will see how it performs. I am very curious too. I literally just ordered the Sandisk 256GB 15 minutes ago on Amazon for $48. The Kingston is $49. The Sandisk is rated 160MB Read and 90MB write. The Kingston is 170MB read and 90MB write. I checked out that review you posted and seems like a great card. I'm thinking about cancelling my order and getting the Kingston card instead.

From my research the Note 20Ultra doesn't support the higher end micro SDcards anyway. I can't remember the technology names (the different classes of Micro SD cards) but I did some research on what SDcard to get and the super fast micro SD's are useless in the Note20 since it doesn't have the proper tech to support the higher speeds. I wish I could remember how to explain it technically, but I can't remember the terms to use.

In my country the price differ quite a lot so I get the Kingston. Definitely gonna try it esp. on random read and write. You mean UHS-I and UHS-II right? Agree with your point, Note 20 Ultra does not have UHS-II capability, so focusing on random read and write is more logical.

Yes, UHS I vs UHS II. I'm no expert on SDcards. I did do my research though and found out that the super high-end Micro SD's will not reach their full potential on the Note 20 Ultra. I was trying to find out which one to buy to give me the fastest performance.
I just went to amazon and cancelled my order for the Sandisk and was going to order the Kingston. But I got to checkout and the Kingston wouldn't get here until September 24th! So I ordered the Sandisk again since it will be here on the 2nd
I'd still like to know how that Kingston performs for you. I'm going to run some benchmarks on my Sandisk as well. We could make a thread about it to help other XDA users decide which to get.

Yup, we can compare the performance between these 2 cards. Besides speed, another thing to take into consideration is reliability. My previous S7 Edge is running Samsung Evo card and works reliably for almost 5 years now, although it is slow. This Kingston 'Plus' card is newer version of Canvas! Go, so not sure about the reliability. Sandisk Extreme Pro maybe a more reliable card.
For benchmark, not sure which app to test on phone instead on PC. I have 'Anvil’s Storage Utilities' result for the Sandisk card (128GB) tested by myself and comparing the benchmark results with that review link, Kingston actually surpass Sandisk by a bit. Probably can't feel it in real world use XD.
Btw, I have the Exynos version of Note 20 Ultra. Sadly my courier is taking way too long to deliver my card, bought my Kingston on 17th Aug actually

I have received my Kingston card and tested it. Using my office PC (WD Blue 1TB SSD) and same card reader (Ugreen brand) for both cards.

I have edited my reply just now, add in Crystaldiskmark results. I guess there is no significant difference between these 2 cards. Both of them are better than Samsung's Evo XD. Probably best cards for our Note 20 for now.
