Hi I am trying to root my phone following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 I got my S-OFF but I am having trouble with this step:
STEP 2. To INSTALL Recovery - v5.0.0.8
1. Download recovery v5.0.0.8 for the Sensation HERE: or Multiupload
2. Copy the PG58IMG file into the Root folder of your SD card (The main Folder of your Memory Card)
3. Turn off your phone FUlly and reboot into the Bootloader/HBOOT screen (see post above on how to get to hboot screen)
4. Press Volume up to Accept when it asks" Do you want to start the update"
5. Press Power Off to Reboot back to android after installation is successful (normal screen with homescreen)
6. Delete PG58IMG from your memory card and you can now root using step 3 below or install a custom ROM using CWM (Customs Roms are already rooted)
7. OPTIONAL: Boot into recovery or Completely switch off (Fastboot disabled or remove and reinsert battery)
Follow STEP 4 SUPER CID sub steps 1-6 to get adb running
8. Enter the command "adb shell cat /sys/devices/platform/htc_battery/power_supply/battery/status" Phone will confirm it is "CHARGING"
Charging issues fixed with new clockwork recovery. writing is now BLUE not purple or orange

thePG58IMG isnt the recovery. its a radio, so that might be why you arent installing recovery.
you can look at my signature to find 4ext recovery thread. in there you will find an apk called 4ext updater. with that you can install the recovery with the click of a button.
that will solve your issue.
Just a suggestionj dont mess with the radio just yet. wait till you choose a rom, and look for thew reccomended radio from the dev. if you would like more information about this topic you may pm me. hope this helped

Um the PG58IMG is not a radio and is a recovery in this thread. You are not correct. You can flash recovery in hboot also. In that thread that is an older version of cwm anyway. Just letting you know. If you would like to use that recovery. In hboot just hit reboot hboot and the update will show up. Press up on volume to say yes. If youd like a newer version give me a shout.

Thanks, I still can't get the update to show though when i got into hboot. When I'm in hboot i see the following options:
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC
What I am I doing wrong?
Quick question,
The CWM file is "PG58IMG.zip" isn't it ?
Lol just realised I'm still on CWM 4.0.1.4, still it works for me..
If you have cwm already you can update it through Ron manager ap available on the market.
Yes you can update through rom manager in market also. Might be easier for you. Otherwise make sure file is on the root of sdcard. That is the main area of your sdcard. There should be an option to reboot bootloader in your hboot. Then update should show up.

in my opinion I have with HBOOT 1.20.0000 problems. because I started to install automatic ROM ICS 4.0 with the file PD58IMG.zip, there is not the end everything was installed, some written as FAIL-PU.

tell me how to update? I'm from Russia, it is very difficult to translate and communicate. I ask how you can in a simplified form.
Give us some background info. Was your phone rooted in the first place? Did you follow the path s-off then clockwokmod recovery then root then supercid? What did you do before this happened? Did you try to install the latest RUU 3.06 where hboot 1.20 comes? We are happy to help but it's not easy trying to solve something without some info

phone s-off, root, super cid, it all started after trying to flash (Sensation ICS 3.06.401.1 - Rooted PG58IMG.ZIP) all the checkboxes have been installed in the firmware partition except system and even some I do not remember. After re-flashing, all the ticks became Fail-PU.

so, first, did you check the md5 checksum to see if your download wasn't corrupted? Some times I use winmd5sum portable because I don't need to install it in my computer. http://download.cnet.com/WinMd5Sum-Portable/3000-2381_4-75099291.html
You noticed that you are flashing a rom for the sensation not the sensation xe (this one is the 401.101) some differences are discussed here but is an advanced topic.
if everything is ok this is how you install a pg58img.zip using the bootloader
place pg58img.zip in sd card
turn off phone if you are not sure the phone is really off take battery out and put it back
press and keep holding VOL DOWN
press and keep holding POWER until you enter the bootloader
pg58img is automatically detected and you are asked if you want to update
after installation of all packages is finished reboot your phone
I was checking the pg58img and seems to be the RUU: the firmware update plus the rooted stock rom and the custom recovery.
although s-off and supercid are persistent and not modified with this firmware update your hboot 1.2000 is now locked and you may not be able to use fastboot commands or install some packages like radios (maybe that's happening to you when it says fail-pu)
to regain unlocked hboot you can use the tools at htcdev to unlock hboot 1.20 or you can download the hboot 1.17 onlocked from here
before you do that don't forget to delete the pg58 img that you hace in your sd card and then place this one in its place.
cheers

it failed when trying to flash the recovery which is custom and no stock. try flashing the firmware update only without recovery or rom. you can find it here, that's what i did first flashed the firmware only and after that a rom (android revolution 5.0.2 currently)
anyway, I was talking to some other guys and if noting works you can download a shipped RUU (there's a collection here). Run the exe file and you'll finish with a stock gingerbread system. You'll have to root and install custom recovery and the usual again. If after that you still feel like trying ICS install the firmware update only, not the one you tried.
cheers
Yet another example of someone jumping blind into something they don't understand. If you don't know how to reverse the rooting process you should not even consider rooting in the first place.
There should be some sort of test before rooting information is given out - would stop n00bs getting themselves up **** creek

here's a video look
So i was in the middle of following the steps in the s-off and perma root thread and i ran into a problem. Hope someone here is nice enough to help me out.
So i ran revolutionary and everything went smooth. I already had the clockwork mod zip in the root of my sd card so i just rebooted the phone into hboot. When i went into hboot it detected the pg58img file and ran it, it prompted me if i wanted to update and so i did. It rebooted the phone and then i went back into hboot. The hboot said it was 1.23 and said Locked instead of Revolutionary as it displayed previously.
When i try to run the pg58 file in hboot an error occurs and said it is not compatible and only asks me to power off. So now at this moment it displays 1.23 version of hboot and s-off and says locked.
What can i do after this point? Any help i can get would be fantastic, thanks.
You're still good.
You're locked out of some of the most advanced fastboot commands. But that's it.
You still have S-Off. ADB will still work. You can flash ROM's. Etc etc etc....
It's a known problem. But it's not really a problem.
It's not like you divided by zero and destroyed the fabric of the universe or anything.
This is a noob question but how would i install clockwork recovery? I thought i would try dl from market but it said i didnt have root permission(obviously)
Is there a thread that has a solution to my issue or maybe you can quickly guide me out of this? lol Just kind of confused as to what i should do next lol.
Look in the development section for a thread called guide to s-off.
Skip the s-off part since you've done that.
Go right to the part about installing recovery. Following the directions. It's incredibly easy. It'll take about 3 minutes.
Once you have clcokwork recovery you can flash custom ROMs. You don't actually have to root the stock ROM. (Though you should make a backup of it just for kicks. You can do it all through clockwork recovery)
Yea I tried it multiple times already. I have the pg58 file in the root of the sd and when i go to the hboot it says
"Model ID incorrect!
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot."
Thats the only option it gives me so i am not able to install clockwork recovery.
Do you have SuperCID?
no i do not, would that fix the issue? i thought that is just for installing any rom on the device. My issue is that i cant get recovery to work.
I would think that is the next step after i run the perma root zip.

He doesn't have use of Fastboot commands. I am pretty sure they are needed for super CID. Let me check.
He can't super CID as Fastboot commands are used.
Have you tried to run the correct RUU.exe? I think that would change back your h boot. There are zips in the development section you can use to downgrade but you may need super CID to use them.

Okay, I am not near a pc atm so I cannot look where they are located, if you have the adb tools you also need another program called Net Framework installed on your pc.
Make sure your phone is powered onvand usb debugging checked when plugged into pc. I find it easiest to hold the mouse over the adb tools folder, press alt & ctrl keys and right click on the mouse and choose open command window here. Now type the command "adb devices".
Good luck.

First boot can take 10 minutes to load as the Davilk cache is being recreated. Also, did you perform a full wipe first and check the Md5 checksums, make sure your downloaded ROM is not corrupt.

I bougth a new HTC Sensation 4G and decided to upgrade to ICS 4.0.3.
I don't know too much about how to flash, root etc. So I googled it and found a forum. I was successful with the S-OFF part so I went to step 2 root my phone.
I downloaded a file PMG58IMG and placed that on my SD and tried to update trough HBoot. It asked me if i want to update I did volume +.
After it was finished I got this:
Model ID incorrect!
Update Fail
Press <POWER> to reboot
So I turned it off and started it up, it started to boot loop every time after the HTC Logo, turn off starts up HTC Logo and it keeps doing that.
I went into Hboot and saw that my HBOOT version that was 1.18 has been changed to 1.27
I do have to mention that I did clear or wiped anything before doing this. I just opened the box and started with the process. So I think I had Android 2.3 I'm not sure about that.
I tried to do the PMG58IMG thing again several times with other PMG58IMG file but keep getting this:
Model ID incorrect!
Update Fail
Press <POWER> to reboot
Please help me solve this problem thank you...

Hey,
Check your MID and edit the android-info.txt file accordingly. or download one of these matching your phones details. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
cheers.
.
Thread moved to Q&A due to it being a question. Would advise you to read forum rules and post in correct section.
Failure to comply with forum rules will result in an infraction and/or ban depending on severity of rule break.
The pg58img file is a firmware update, not for gaining root (which is done by flashing a superuser binary zip in recovery).
The problem is now you have firmware incompatible with your rom, causing bootloop.
The solution, first thing to try is remove SD, delete the pg58img, reinsert and try to boot.
If it fails you need to redo the pg58img process with a firmware compatible with Android 2.3 if that's what you had. You need firmware version 3.12 or lower.
If this fails you may need to run ruu and start over.

So I downloaded this firmware T-MOBILE: DOWNLOAD 3.12
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
The firmware was updated successful and I now back on my home screen. It is NOT boot looping any more.
I want to wipe everything and put ICS 4.0.3 on it. I guess my phone is not fully rooted yet, right? So what do I have to do next?
I do have to mention that my Hboot version has been changed from 1.27 to 1.23.
Some details about my phone:
Android 2.3.4 Sense 3.0
Software number: 1.50.531.1
Kernel version: 2.6.35.13

To note also, for newer ics roms you will most likely need to flash newer fw than 3.12.

I'm trying to permanently root my HTC Sensation 4G. I'm following this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
I'm at STEP 3 but when I try to install file su-2.3.6.3-ef-signed.zip I get this:
http://img11.mediafire.com/a390a1de08be6b1e725bebca30b99bfc144e933ef8a1054da969b40c326cacfa5g.jpg
In STEP 2 it says I need to download recovery v5.0.0.8 but it doesn't say what I need to do with that file. I downloaded I downloaded recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-pyramid from http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager.
What do I do with the Recovery file it's a IMG file?

Flash in fastboot like all PMG58IMG, files, place it on your sd card. Boot into bootloader and update. You must do step 2 before step 3.

Do I have to put the Recovery.IMG file in the PMG58IMG.zip file? Because I tried to flash the recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-pyramid it doesn't go. I just copy and paste it on my SD card. I didn't place it in a zip.
I go in Hboot mode then to recovery then I get this:

1. Put pmg58img on the ROOT of your SD card, not in any folder.
2. Boot into boot loader
3. It will ask you to confirm update. Do that and wait.
4. When its finished reboot

I did that it was successful but what do I do with the Recovery file please look step 2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
The recovery file is not a PG58IMG file or zip file it a image file.
I downloaded my PG58IMG file here:
T-MOBILE: DOWNLOAD 3.12
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
That PG58IMG file worked for me to update the firmware. My question is when I download the recovery file which is a image file what should I do with it because I put it on my SD and fastboot it and it doesn't work.
I see the problem, the links from where you are downloading have the files improperly compiled, that's the problem.
Go to page three of this thread, someone posted a properly compiled CWM Recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277975
Download the file, it's a PMG58IMG file, it is working for others. Someone needs to update the guide, no wonder there's so many users having trouble installing recovery.

Thank you, I was thinking about that and I did it before you replied. I downloaded the Recovery file that is a image file and made a PMG58IMG.zip file. After that I copied the .txt file from the firmware PMG58IMG.zip file and paste that in the Recovery zip. I was a success I'm permanently rooted.
Now I have to do the next steps hope I'll do them correctly.
I am glad you got it sorted. Have fun and enjoy flashing!!

I started rooting my htc sensation 4g. all went well i downloaded revolutionary and succesfully S-OFFd the phone. When revolution asked me if i wanted to download clockwork recovery i said no. so then i was told to download recovery v5.0.0.8 for the Sensation but the link was bad so i had to go explore for another one. the one i found was supposed to work it was a pg.158 file or whatever. When i booted in to hboot after putting the zip on my sd card and back into the phone, it asked me if i wanted to update i clicked volume up. it did its thing then asking me to reboot and i clicked yes.
it shut off came back on to the htc start up screen went to the next one and shuts off and repeats itself. its never ending i try to click recovery and it just goes back into bootloop....i try to click factory reset it just starts then gives me a ret triangle......what did i do wrong...someone please help me get out of this mess.
my hboot says revolutionary pyramid pvt soff
hboot-1.27.1100
i have the same situation. i tried flashing a leedroid rom with the 3.32 firmware, im stuck in bootloop none of my back ups work. now
i flashed the update to the 3.32 firmware and yet im still in the same situation,
now my bootloader says.

hboot is 1.27
im stuck in the htc boot screen..
at this point i feel lost anyone can provide any help?
i am going to attempt the fix that was posted on here...
im going to try to flash the 3.12 firmware..and then try my stock back up? i hope im on the right path..ive done a lot of reading on these forums and i am still having trouble finding my way. i am a noob but i was flashings roms back and forth before i decided to flash an ICS rom..i love my sensation and i appreciate all the help that is posted on here. i just want to get my phone back in working order. and from i understand its not bricked..but it feels that way..
thanks in advance again
hi their people.....im not new to rooting phones, ive done it several times so rooting this phone wasnt a problem.... the problem i encountered was once i had the cwm recovery i updated it through the app, i went into recovery and data factory reset my phone, wiped the cache, and wiped dalvic cache....i accidentally clicked on reboot system now (which is where i screwed up...so what i did was pulled the battery out and held down volume down and power and went into the bootloader....well then it randomly started trying to update and now im getting a
CID incorrect!
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot.
and so those are my only options so i reboot then the phone goes to the htc quite brilliant screen then it goes black then ik just keeps doing that over and over and over again...so idk how the hell to get out of that... :/
can anyone tell me how to get out of that or atleast tell me how to fix the CID thing so i can atleast go to recovery and flash a rom.....thanx
(sorry for the detailed description i just wanted ya to know exactly what i did)

check my sig for supercid your phone or friendly firmware to do with your own cid.
ps-yiu have to flash correct fimware for your rom

check your cid by abd and write you cid in the "android-info.txt" (a file in PG58IMG)
if not ,supercid will be a good choose
Do you have CWM still on the phone? If so, just flash a new ROM. Job done!! Make sure you don't have any PG58IMG.zip files on the root of your SD card before you try to get into HBOOT btw

Ever heard of a Micro-SD to SD card adapter?? Handy to have in situations like this...
You can get into Recovery by...
1. Turn the phone off (properly off)
2. Remove the SD card
3. Turn it on holding the volume down button to get into HBOOT
4. Once it's in HBOOT, insert the SD card
5. Select recovery from the menu
You will now be in recovery and, if it's still CWM, you can flash a different ROM

dude!!!!!! THANX A BUNCH ...I GOT IT WORKING NOW!!! UR A GENIUS LOL....
Hi, I have a rooted sensation XE and I wanted to upgrade firmware via Hboot but my power button does not select any of the options (it works normally when using the phone). I can scroll through with the options using the volume - (my volume + does not work anymore but it has never caused problems so I havent had it repaired) but when I hit the power button nothing happens.
I am rooted and S-off with revolutionary Hboot 1.27 with 4-ext and venom 1.63.
Also I can only access Hboot through 4-ext or from the phones reboot options, I cannot access it by taking out the battery and using the power & volume - combination all that happens is the HTC screen comes on, goes off, comes on... you get the idea!
My phone is working in every other way but I do like flashing roms and I am concerned that if I have a bad flash I wont have a Hboot to fall back to.
If you know how to use adb I'm pretty sure you can flash firmware using adb
If your confident using adb I can give you commands
And about being worried about not having hboot to land on adb can easily reboot into bootloader but I suggest getting buttons repaired.

I am happy using adb, but my main concern is fixing the boot loader, I have put a zip file on my sd card (pg58.zip) which the bootloader would normally find and use but it does not even look for it.

do you mean pg58img.zip?
rename it like this
The reason maybe that you are spelling or writing it incorrect make sure it is pg58img.zip like mentioned above and is not in any folder and on the root of the sd card

weird, bootloader (not fastboot) should always do a quick scan for the file if the SDcard is inserted, regardless the way it's spelled. but like mentioned you can flash the file with ADB or fastboot. you don't really need bootloader for that.
so your hboot started having issues after you updated it from 1.18/17 to 1.27? or did you start rooting it from 1.27? what firmware are you running now? since you're on hboot 1.27 I wonder why you want to update FW.
you can check FW with
Code:
fastboot getvar version-main
if you want to flash FW make sure it's spelled correct like mentioned above. Also do md5 check. you can install different bootloader to see if it solves the problem. if not I'd say send it for repair...

Thank you for all of you replies. My FW Version is 3.32401.3, this all came to light besause I wanted to flash Android Revolution HD7.1 which specifically requires you to have FW 3.33.401.x, (they even went to the trouble of pointing it out in red letters!) This is when I discovered the problem with the bootloader. I have got PG58IMG.zip (sorry about typo earlier) on the root of the SD card and the bootloader is completely ignoring it. As someone stated even if the file is misspelled, corrupt or whatever it should still look for it which it doesn't.
I am sure I could get the firmware upgrade to work using ADB, but I would feel alot better if I could find a way to fix my bootloader so that I could access it without using 4ext or the rom itself and I could use it when I did get into it without needing ADB.
I am just worried because I have had the odd occassion where a flash has gone bad for whatever reason and I have got stuck in a bootloop and other things but I have always been able to fix it by directly into bootloader or recovery and reflashing. As things stand at the mo the only way of accessing either of these is through the reboot options on the phone.

Just to keep everyone updated, I haven't solved the problem yet. I installed an ruu which didn't help unfortunately and then I installed Venom again and ended up in a boot loop. KGS Utility has managed to get me to bootloader and recovery but I keep on ending up in a boot loop no matter what I do. Can anyone reccommend a rom that is reliable on first boot. I am not worried about how stable it is afterwards.
Change of plan, I installed another rom and this one does not bootloop, it just gets stuck and I cant seem to get access to the bootloader or recovery, any ideas?

bootloop or ROM's not booting mostly means your ROM and FW don't match.
what's your current hboot info and FW, and what kind of ROM are you trying to install?

I did, and in 4ext I formatted all partitions 3 times including the fat32 partition just to make double sure because I had a glitchy rom a while back and doing the format procedure more than once cured it.
Just to let everyone know I have a working rom again... i used adb with the phone turned off and through adb used the command "adb reboot recovery" this got me to recovery mode and I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767&highlight=super-wipe to update the firmware and reloaded my rom which has worked. I have a working phone now but I still only have fastboot and no hboot.
