Hi, I have grown sick of this 2.3 system, I know their are some benefits from it and I should be grateful that they shipped it with 2.3 but I prefer 2.2 (without Sense).
I am aware that normally it is quite easy to port 2.2 but the problem I have is the ChaCha is QWERTY and it's specifications are not that similar to 2.2 handsets so I was wondering if anyone would assist me in bringing a 2.2 ROM to the ChaCha or at least point me in the right direction? (+ 4.0 is coming soon so it would be good if you could do it before then as it will have Sense too)
Surely you just want 2.3 without Sense? Plenty of HTC phones came with 2.2 and Sense. They've been adding Sense since at least 1.6.
Best bet would be to try and take the proprietary kernel files and backport them and hack them into a 2.2 liberty (or other msm7227) kernel. Good luck with that.

So I know gingerbread is one its way, supposedly on the 6th will be the release date, and HTC is working on the new HTC sense (featured on the desire HD and and desire z) for devices with froyo ie. Incredible and EVO. I am wondering if anyone has any more information on the release date of the two or of they may come together as one thing, which we would be incredibly convenient. By the way, I have an EVO running 2.2 thanks!
Welcome to forums
Gingerbread most likely will be ported to older devices thanks to the great Chefs in XDA
Is it possible to put Gingerbread 2.3 software on this phone? If not when will we be able to, etc?
right now, no. not stock 2.3 anyways. people have gotten CyanogenMod 7, which is based on 2.3, to work, but with no sound because it uses the kernel from the Desire HD, which is very similar to this phone. once HTC releases the source code for the kernel, then people can get to work making real custom ROMs for it.

Do you think a official update for 2.3 will be for this phone, since it's newer?
honestly, there is no way to tell. the captivate has yet to actually get 2.2, which is what the inspire ships with. i believe my g/f's stock aria is still on 2.1 as well. if i were you, i wouldn't depend on OTA updates, because there's absolutely no guarantee that there will be one. to be honest, i've never had a carrier branded Android phone, and my only other smartphones were iphones, which always get every update, so I'm not sure what it's like to have to wait for a system update.
Looked everywhere for this question but will the 2.3 gingerbread upgrade install the hid bluetooth driver to htc's with the sense UI? someone please answer the question been looking everywhere for the answer
I was checking out the specs in the HTC Sensation and noticed it supports HID. I don't believe sense 2.3 supports HID, only because I haven't seen anyone mention it. And it would be a BIG deal. But apparently sense has changed their ways and we may see this feature ported to other roms. It seems sense is kind of fragmenting though, because the EVO 3D's sense appears much different than other sense's I've seen built off gingerbread. So all hope is not lost
Edit:Sensation is on sense 3.0. .. .most updated phones will be receiving 2.1
O.K., so i know that not that many people would want sense on their phones, but some poeple out there would, especially if its sense 3.0, poeple say that its not that possible , but someone on the forums did, but is an older version of sense ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827769 ) but i think that it would become very popular in the forums, and c'mon, why do htc phones get all of the good roms?! anyways hope someone can port sense 3.0 for the captivate community.
Imo, it's outdated.
3.0 is quite a bit different from 1.0 and 2.0 builds. HTC isn't even going to allow their current phones upgrade to it(that includes Incredible 2 and Thunderbolt). I imagine a 3.0 theme wouldn't be difficult, but a 3.0 ROM might be more trouble than it's worth, considering that Sense is pretty lag-tastic as it is.
One of the biggest issues is that HTC uses alot of closed source drivers and stuff for sense. As for why they get all the good Roms, well HTC is more user freindly then say Samsung or Motorola.
Title explains it all really, I'm wondering if its even possible to port sense 2.1 to the sensation.
I like sense 3 and all but its just not stable, I would prefer to have sense 2....I miss my desire hd became of it.
But obviously this phone has many hardware advancements so I wanted to see if it was possible to have sense 2 on it, then its like the best of both worlds
should be possible since its a sense rom but id say a new kernel would be needed?
Possible ? Sure, but I don't think that You'll find a developer which will try to port 2.1 on a device already coming with Sense 3.0.
Sense 2.1 is only build for older devices and not for sensation for evo. 3d
