[Q] htc sense update for froyo devices coming with gingerbread? - General Questions and Answers

So I know gingerbread is one its way, supposedly on the 6th will be the release date, and HTC is working on the new HTC sense (featured on the desire HD and and desire z) for devices with froyo ie. Incredible and EVO. I am wondering if anyone has any more information on the release date of the two or of they may come together as one thing, which we would be incredibly convenient. By the way, I have an EVO running 2.2 thanks!

Welcome to forums
Gingerbread most likely will be ported to older devices thanks to the great Chefs in XDA

HTC Incredible S, Desire HD, Desire Z and original Desire will all be eating Gingerbread by the end of June

When it launched the Incredible S at MWC a couple of weeks ago, HTC promised the new 4-inch device would be quick to get a Gingerbread update and now it's giving us a definitive schedule for it by saying that Android 2.3 will be distributed to its new flagship phone by the end of Q2 2011. We're not sure four months of sitting by the window waiting for the OTA update to float in necessarily matches up to our definition of "quick," but there are much better news for owners of HTC's older devices. The Desire HD and Desire Z -- both released in September 2010 -- will also be leaping away from Froyo and up to Gingerbread and will be joined by the original Desire, which was announced way back at last year's MWC. That handset was essentially HTC's own-brand Nexus One, so we already knew it was capable of running Gingerbread, but it's still rare to see a device go through two significant Android updates (the Desire began life with Android 2.1). All these old Desires are placed on the same update schedule as the Incredible S, whereas the newly announced Desire S and Wildfire S will ship with Gingerbread preloaded.
It's all up to the carriers, as we all know.
I think if the Desire HD get it we can also get it as long as we have a custom kernel.
We already have it in cm7...

Sense 3 and Desire S

Hello guys,
I'm going to purchase the Desire S, and I wonder if it will have the Sense 3 or 2.1. Also I want to know what are the differences between them. and if I can install it on my phone (in case it is not already on the ROM).
It shipped with 2.1 and it slightly might get sense3 offically in future update
the defferentthat that i know is sense3 has beautifull 3d effects
devs already ported sense3 from HTC sensation to Desire S it has some
bugs hope will be fix in the future.

[Q] HTC Desire S with Android 4.0

Hi, do you think its possible in early future? Run Android 4.0 on HTC Desire S device?

Preview leak build, from HTC's internal board.
Evil bastard - getting my hopes up! lol.
Thought maybe HTC had been secretly working on it behind the scenes to give us all a super fast update and make us all love them!

You'd better be patient if you're expecting an update OTA from HTC, as we're still waiting on the gingerbread 2.3.5 to be officially released worldwide...
I expect the devs to have an ICS ROM for Desire S up pretty soon.

I believe Superkid got close to getting everything working. He said he'd release once he gets it stable. If I know superkid, it shouldn't be too long from now

Technically all the Android powered devices capable of running of Android Gingerbread will be able to run Android 4.0 ICS but Practically all devices may not give an overall good user experience . So all the manufactures are reviewing ICS on their devices to check the user experience and will release the latest OS according to the results.
HTC's list of devices that will surely get ICS :
* HTC Sensation (XL,XE,Original)
* HTC EVO 3D
* HTC Incredible S
* HTC Desire HD
* HTC Flyer
* HTC Rhyme
* HTC Desire S
Update (1) : No ETA's as yet. But may take 2-4 months because of the integration of Sense UI. HTC is definitely making every effort to provide update to most of the phones. Testing is under process. Desire Z and Salsa is going out of the list ,usability issues.
Update (2) : The phones exclusively on carriers such as HTC Amaze 4G,Thunderbolt,etc. will receive the update late.
Update (3) : New devices,i.e,Released after May 2011 will receive the updates prior to the old phones like Desire HD .

I believe we have 2.3.5 leaks which probably means it should be coming "soon."
Don't quote me though.
Word is we're skipping 2.3.5 to get 4.0 in the new year

I don't think that htc leave Sensation on 2.3.4 till ICS release, while desire s, desire hd and incredible s have already 2.3.5 with Se se upgrade (2.1 TO 3.0).
I don't belive that we Will have ics in earlyer 2012, but maybe in february, so i belive in an update TO 2.3.5 in this month.
I'm speaking basing that on my experience with Gingerbread upgrade or the last year (also with other manifacturer).

I hope you are right...this way htc could take a little bit more time to better develop the ICS update.
I think we'll have to wait at least until march to have android 4.0...and I don't think this would be a bad thing. More time to fix bugs, more time for developers to make their apps ICS-compatible, more time to develop the new sense ui (which I think will be the main reason why we'll have ICS around march). All this while we're still playing with android 2.3.5 and sense 3.5...I could have a lot of patience this way...
AFAIK Desire HD, incredible, etc have not yet been confirmed to get ICS, so their only way up is Gingerbread updates.
As far as Sensation goes, I still don't like that phones like SGSII, Nexus S etc are getting updated to 2.3.5 and 2.3.6 respectively and we are left behind but we made a conscious choice buying the Sensation so good luck to us.
On another note, I really like how Sony-Ericsson listened to their customers last year after the X10 fiasco and in my opinion are the leaders right now in update turnaround. They will probably be the first to release ICS for their current lineup, as they have already finished coding it. They are only waiting for country certifications now.

HTC Official annoucement on ICS Update roadmap

Bellow you'll find a quote from the official HTC facebook page
"HTC has been working hard to get its Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades ready, and we’re excited to announce that our first round of ICS upgrades will roll out by the end of March for the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation 4G and HTC Sensation XE, followed soon there after by the HTC Sensation XL.
In addition, we can confirm Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades will be coming later this year to the HTC Rezound, HTC Vivid, HTC Amaze 4G, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G, HTC Incredible S, HTC Desire S and HTC Desire HD. Stay tuned for more updates on Ice Cream Sandwich releases in the coming weeks."
Even the 2010 device the HTC DESIRE HD will be get ICS, and some more devices will be annouced in the upcoming weeks as it is said at the end of the quote.

Even if I'm a little disapointed with the dates that are being pushed a little put back (I guess the release of new devices at MWC has a priority) it is nice to see that HTC Are updating phone that came out in 2010, I think Motorola and Samsung should take notice of this.
Is it only due to the Sense Interface that the HTC Desire does not get an ICS update from HTC itself?

What has Sense got to do with it?
I think the delay has more to do with the fact that they are using their own overlay. The HTC Sense just like Samsung, and Motoblur they have to pretty much recode everything to work with the new software. What I don't understand is the fact that the beta for ICS came out in what Nov? Yet It's 5 months before HTC is going to put out their first ICS update it's very disappointing.
They publicly released the ICS code in Nov as well, but for in private I'm not sure why these companies were not giving it sooner.
I'm surprised the Sensation is the very first to get updated instead of all the newer ones at the same time.

i'll tell this to my friend who use sensation but hate htc.
Ice cream sandwich update
I am glad to see that the HTC sensation is one of the first phones to receive the much talked about ice cream sandwich update. I am wondering though because I have a rooted phone with the CID removed, if HTC would push the update or T-Mobile. I thing we may have a problem if T-Mobile pushes the update. That last one they did, they are soft bricked my phone. I had to get it manually from Xda developers. I just wanted to send this out as a warning to everyone that would update if they have a rooted phone, especially with the SID removed.
ICS in the Future HTC
Ice Cream Sandwich is the las version of Android devices but only two smartphone have this version Galaxy Nexus And Nexus S of Samsung, i like the idea the map road of update ICS for HTC devices, this include Sense 4.0 and ICS, the bad is the HTC is slowly update OTA performance, but the door is open
Nice, my fiancee will be very happy to hear that about her Sensation 4G!
Can't waiting, so I choose ARHD 6.2.1 for ICS taste

comes because the need to let it be tested by google before its approved for release. this is the most time taking part of the rom.
Hopefully this should help the devs get some quality working ROMs out.
Even if HTC will support ICS on the Desire, AT&T had essentially cut all ties with the Inspire 4G. Main reason I rooted in the first place.

hope that sensation will have sense 4.0 update finally!
