[Q] CRT - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Confused...
What exactly does it do?

If your talking about the animation. Its cathode ray tube. The old TVs were crt and they shut off "slowly" and there was a white lines that converged in the center the went away

I know what a cathode ray tube is... but, keep seeing CRT ON/OFF as a flashable zip for various ROMs and such.
So you're saying this is literally just the animation for when the screen sleeps like on the CM ROMs?

GBs Rom screen closing like old tv

I have tried continuum and perception so far. every time the screen goes to sleep it looks like your turning off an old tv.
is this just me? is damaging the screen in anyway(shorter life)?
This is actually featured as part of gingerbread. I know in Cyanogen Mod 7 there is a way to disable it if you don't like it. Not sure about the others though.
Yeah its just an animation. No harm to you or the screen. Press sleep button and ogle at the prettiness
lol
most people got gingerbread just to watch that!
you can go into settings>display>animations and turn off animations
or if you use spare parts if you set animations to fast it wont do the crt one but will play all the others just faster.
I think it makes the phone cooler

Anybody know if there's a way to turn the CRT effect off in GR-9/10?
Settings -> Display -> Animations -> select no animations

old CRT TV lock screen animation

i'm using eagles blood 1.0.3 gingerbread tried Screen Off and Lock but when I click on power button to lock screen it doesn't do the old CRT TV shutting off animation. i have to swipe down from notification bar and use it manually.
anyone got one working that does animation automatically after screen locks on its own?
None of the ROMs support it as of now
cyanogen gonna have....just give a time
does the stock gingerbread update.zip support the CRT animation?

Not the leaked version.
Can we use the one from the Vibrant ROM 'Asgard'?
no it is apart of the Gingerbread rom... it isn't something you can just install (but I'm not putting it past the dev's here at XDA). Specifically I think the kernel requires this functionality.
The official Gingerbread build should come with an updated Gingerbread kernel which hopefully includes this. I don't see why not.
It is a stupid little gimmick anyway but regardless we'll get it some way some how eventually.
As long as there's a way to disable it I'll be happy.
tweezit just announced it will be in eaglesblood 1.04.

[Q] TV Power Down Effect

Hi guys,
After flashing the insert coin ROM I had this really cool effect when pushing the power button to lock my phone. The effect was like a tv powering down. However, it has just stopped working. I've re-flashed the insert coin personalisation pack but that hasn't done anything.
Any suggestions as the effect was really slick.
Thanks guys.
Thats called crt effect. I think theres an apk for that. Just try searching the threads.

Ha, I thought crt was developer jargon for some kind of animation. What a douche!
hahaha thats jokes, its been a while since ive seen someone flame himself
you deserve a "thanks" for that!
It was a pleasure. I try not to take myself too seriously!
that will help you A LOT in these forums, just make sure to search or browse a little before asing a question, its usually less of a headache that way
On some roms, going into settings-display and checking disable all window animations will also disable the crt animation.
Could be the reason yours suddenly stopped working.

[Q] How do i turn off/disable CRT animations?

How do i turn off/disable CRT animations? I'm running Tweaked 2.0 with FP1 PBJ kernel.
the usual turning off animations doesn't work for me I just tested that out sorry i couldn't help
It requires de/recompiling - there's a value that needs switching in framework-res.apk/res/values/bools.xml whose name I can't remember off the top of my head, though that may be enough to have Google lead you the rest of the way.
Thanks dwitherell. Btw i LOVE your rom

Just curious why someone wouldn't want the CRT on/off? I absolutely LOVE it and for the few minutes while I'm on stock in between roms I can't stand the screen just appearing/disappearing. It's the little extra things in life like CRT animations that make me
The CRT on animation just looks weird to me. I've gotten used to it, but it still doesn't look right. The CRT off is only something I notice if I'm looking for it. I don't miss it if it's not there, and in reality, I'm not even looking at my screen 75% of the time I lock it.

I've found that it's better if you slow it down some, but yes, it does go too fast to make it more than just a bragging feature really.

im sure its been asked before

but is there a way to add "Tv out" or "Old Style TV off" as a screen animation to an HTC Inspire 4g running Android Revolution HD 7.1...?
i was running an older version of A.R and it had it.... id like it back. the straight black out lock is lame. (i.m.o)

I think I know what you're talking about... Its the screen lock animation right? it looks like a tube tv turning off.
You can get that animation if you flash most Cyanogenmods. I am running JellyTime_R29 by Randomblame and it is based on CM10, and a friend of mine chose to stick with cm7. Both have this animation. There may be some other way of modding your current rom, but I couldn't advise to do that. It would be easiest to just install a rom that supports that animation.
Hope that helped! If so, hit thanks

oh ok
i actually meant if there was a way for me to just get that with A.R in stead of using an app like i found most people to have done.

CRT animation (that is called) is not hard to set in a rooted device. Here is a guide on how to do it manually: http://www.freeyourandroid.com/guide/enable-crt-animation
I don't know AR but other roms have tweaks where you can enabled/disable it, check if that exist in the setup menu. :good:

I've never used AR, but if you're set on sticking with that rom then there is probably a mod you can make or flash to the /system/something that would do this for you. the easiest solution is using a rom that supports that animation though.
