I know several ereaders came with our Elocity A7, but were removed because my grandson said he would never use them.
However, I am using the A7 now and I would like to use one of the eReders.
#1- What eReaders came with the A7?
#2- Which one is the "best" and allows me to read free books?
#3- If there is one that is the "best" (my neighbor told me he thinks these were originally on my A7 = Adobe, Aldiko, FBReader, Kindle), how might I get it back on my A7?
Please advise and thank you.
P.S. Adobe Reader is still on the A7, but when I clicked on it, it wanted me to sign a license agreement. Is this an eReader?
I saw something on http://www.elocitynow.com/freeapps.shtml, but I am confused as to which one to choose. I think Aldiko would be the best "free" ereader, but in the body of the site it states to install from flash drive to "After copying the file to your portable media, insert the flash drive into the A7's USB port (left side) or insert the Micro SD card into the card slot (top). Tap the center smart button to access the desktop, then tap the "ES File Manager icon to access your external media. Just find the app, tap it to begin the install, and you're done.
Just what does that mean and what is "smart button" and "ES File Managers?"
I see "OI File Manager," and if that is correct area, what do I do then?
Thanks again for any help.

Hello. I'm just new in the android world, i have a desire hd with HTC sense.
Target: reading ebooks in italian (my language)
Application desired: the HTC built-in ebook reader, which stores .epub ebooks in local memory root\etc\file.epub
Through: i take a .epub file (an ebook i already own or i'm gonna buy, in italian) and put it in the same directory since the ebook reader doesn't allow to 'browse' and choose files.
Problem: whatever i try to copy and paste, doesn't paste!!! Even a normal .jpg taken from the SD card....when i go and 'paste' it in the root folder of the internal phone memory or in the root\etc, the file manager says 'cannot copy the file'.
It's like i am not allowed to manually write anything in the phone memory.
I have tried two different file managers (ASTRO and ES). Same thing. With ASTRO the 'option PASTE' is grayed out....with 'ES' i can click on 'paste' but then it says 'couldn't copy filexxx.jpg'.
Solution 1: I find another GOOD ebook reader (the HTC one already present in the desire HD is fantastic) which allows me to 'load' files from whatever location they are..... .lit and .epub compatible
Solution 2: if it works, i could just copy the ebooks i want to read in the root\etc so that the HTC ebook reader finds them....BUT for this, I have to be allowed to write the phone memory ------ HOW ?
thanks!!

I Take It Your Phones Not Rooted?
Basically To Do Anything At All, That Has To Do With The System You Need SU (Super-User) Access! In Other Words, You Need To Be Rooted..... Try Installing Z4Root!! Give That A Try, & You Should Hopefully Be Good, As Far As Being Allowed To Write To The System!!
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
I actually found a nice application (Laputa) to read ebooks. Only thing missing is the zoom through multi touch actions. The rest is ok...i imported my few ebooks and everything works!
I didn't need to write the internal memory, but what you said will sure come in handy once i need again to write the phone memory!

hey. that application is not present in the marketplace.
My problem is now that i set a ringtone for incoming SMS (\storagecard\notifications\filexxx.wav), it is correctly read...but that like if i receive a sms one hour later, the default notification sound starts....instead of my custom wav file. Why ?
So i thought that maybe whenever i dis/mount the sd card (where the file is present), the settings go back to the default notification sound.
BUT that doesn't happen for the incoming call ringtone...which is also in the \storagecard\ringtone folder (.mp3)
ok now that was weird....the 'notification' ringtone is only for emails. In fact, whenever i receive an email the correct file plays. But not for the sms.
To change the real sms notification sound, i just had to go in 'messages' and then from there - settings - choose sound.
Weird that it's separated from the normal phone ringtone settings panel.
so i guess it's solved.

they took it off, but i had it:
Is there a surefire way to download maps so the transformer does not need to be wifi/tethered to run this as a stand alone GPS?
I ran across this, anyone used it?
Brut Google Maps 4.6.0.4686-brut17
Not tried that one you mention but this one works great.
Cheers. Just tried that and found it very good. Even has a map with local bus route overlays.

I couldn't find a way to tell it to download the maps in full only small squares.
I had downloaded it on my droid x and it worked great. But it won't download maps to the transformer... My apologies.
Another way..

Hi, You dont say if you have an android phone, BUT if you had a rooted HTC Desire. (am sure it would work with any other htc that has car panel). (my sig says the one im using).
You could do the following;
Either Download a free app from the android market called "OntheflyBackup" run the app and you will now have the "Navigation app" and the "CarHomeLauncher app" and backups of all your other programs so its a win win situation. Or if your winrar savvie just extract the files from a Rom.
Now;
1, Run "Carpanel" app on the phone.
2 Select Get More, and download the maps you want (wifi enabled for speed)
3, Open the sd card either through data link or removing the card from the phone. Look in the folder ".data" you will see a folder "navigator"
4, Now copy this folder to a new ".data" folder on the "Internal" Sd card you acn see in the file explorer on the transformer. It must be in this one and Not the external Sd card.
5, Copy the "Navigation app" and the "CarHomeLauncher app" to downloads or any other folder on the card. placed in the Transformer.
6, On the Transformer, install the two apps and then run "Navigation". The car panel Wont look the same as on the phone It dosnt have the get more button, But will allow you to Navigate to anywhere on the maps you have selected.
Ive tried this from the UK to a area in Germany and it worked for me.

Thanks,
Unfortunately I have symbian phone - hope to get an android phone soon, but just don't use anything but email and calender as far as a "smart phone". And right now I have 15/month unlimited data plan. If I switch to a "smart phone" then ATT will hit me for large data plan.
Oruxmaps enables you to view online maps from many sources including Google Maps.
It will also let you define a location and surrounding area and it will then cache all the Google Maps tiles (or any other service's tiles) to your SD card. You can even define several zoom levels to store for each area.
It does a lot more than just that and is free on the market.
Hi,
I was hoping to use the tab plus as an ebook reader among other things. I noticed that I can't sync it with Calibre. I'm fine with the ebook app on here but how do I side load epub files?
I tried emailing them to myself and seeing if I could download but Gmail says there is no app on the device that can read this file. I know this is not true though.
just copy the files to your tab and import the book from reader
how do I do that? It doesn't seem like I can mount the tab as a mass storage device. All it allows for is MTP mode. This doesn't seem to mount on Mac OSX.
you can use airdroid or any wifi explorer in market to transfer via wifi.... since 7+ used honeycomb it cant be mount as mass storage device.
Great, I'll give that a try thank you!
Um, guys, you know that Calibre has a mini-webserver capability now for the library right?
So... server + wifi + browser = no problem, I even use it with my kobo touch and it's browser and haven't hooked up to my computer for book syncing pretty much since that capability was added.
The only real drawback about the calibre server is that there's no builtin multiple select to download all at once, but I'd never really considered that until just now as I'm usually just pulling one title/document at a time.
Also you can email them to yourself, that's what I do when my cable is not present. Then go into astro (or any file manager would likely work) and move them to the ebook/import folder on the onboard storage. That part might not be necessarily but even if it isn't I just like have my books in the ebook folder.
Hi there! This will be my first thread at XDA.
I've just upgraded my HTC Sensation from stock to InsertCoin 6.0.0, and also installed the Beats Audio media player.
While I removed my SD card, inserted it into my PC, and copied 274 mp3 tracks to it, the standard music player couldn't play any of the songs. Also, the Photo Gallery wasn't able to find new pictures anymore.
People told me that my SD card was bad, which I found a little bit strange. The app "File Manager" was flawlessly able to find all of the pictures, and also the music, which actually could be played by the HTC music player by the app itself. I think this is caused by a bug or something, so I found out the fix myself:
1. Download a file browser app like "File manager" or "ES File Explorer"
2. Delete the folder /sdcard/music (or format the SD card, but make sure to backup the content you wish to keep!)
3. Create a new folder called "Music" at the root of your SD card
4. Get the app "Wifi File Explorer" from Google Play
5. Activate the WiFi (All Apps > Settings > Wireless & Networks > WiFi for older phones)
6. Open the browser and insert the URL shown by the app
7. Upload a file, open the music app, and see if it plays. If it works: zip all the songs, send them to the phone, and unzip them by clicking "unzip" next to the folder in the browser.
If it doesn't, I'm afraid you'll have to format your SD card. (All apps > Settings > Storage > Unmount SD card, and then Delete (Format) SD card)
Hope it'll help someone out there! Cheers
Edit: To avoid that this will happen again, connect your phone to the PC using a USB cable by the next time.
Edit #2: USB file transfer results exactly the same. I strongly recommend using Wifi File Explorer (or similar) to transfer desired data files between the PC and smartphone.
Playing music issues
Helou.
My GF reached your post looking for a solution to the same problem you had. Then she contacted me. In case you are still having this problem, is rather simply caused by a lack of trigger of the media scan. Every time you copy a media file to your phone's memory, it should trigger this action, but sometimes it doesnt happens (dont ask me why, it should). In fact, the solution you give is that the Wifi Explorer app correctly triggers the media scan. You can save precious minutes by just installing this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.addz.mediascanner
And run it every time you copy/move files around from your pc to your phone.
If it helped, then update your thread with the solution, you never know when someone is looking for the same problem (then again, is one month old, maybe you're no longer here)
It worked for me.
I know this is an old thread and I didn't see where anyone noted that the solution worked. I have an HTC Incredible that was flaking out on me. The issue stated in this thread came up when I was reloading my music onto my SD card. I came across this forum and looked up the app recommended and it solved the problem. I am thankful for people out there who know what they are doing.
I have run out of space on my phone. (Again. Why can't I add an sdcard to this nexus thing dammit?) I'm going through the Storage sections under Settings, picking and choosing what I want to keep and discard. There's a number of items appearing in Downloads that I want to move to my PC, but I can't find the files and the only commands available are Open, Delete and Share.
How do I locate the items so can copy them?
My phone is not rooted and is running Lollipop 5.1.1.
Downloads as shown in from Settings >> Storage:
i.imgur.com/LzJz05I.png
Downloads as seen by ES File Explorer:
i.imgur.com/EJZUHYu.png
(sorry, no active links. I don't have the reputation to post links).
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but the first image shows the list of things that you've downloaded (and then maybe moved to another folder?) while the second shows what is in your downloads folder now. In other words, one image shows an application, the other shows files.
The Downloads app seems to show items downloaded in the traditional sense (like from my browser, those are the items also seen in 2nd screen shot)
as well as items downloaded by apps, and these are saved somewhere else, not in /sdcard/download.
My question is how do I follow the items from the Download app to their actual location, so I can do something with them?
Double tap on the item opens it. Long press selects it. I need to copy it (or rename or move or...)
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
If my suggestion is correct, and nobody so far has contradicted it, then the download list needn't correspond in any way to what's actually on your phone at this moment. You may have moved the files, deleted them... there may not be anything to find. What you're seeing is just your file download history, not what actually exists now.
One tool that I find invaluable for this sort of thing is Search Everything - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.marlon.searcheverything
It indexes all your files and displays them on the fly - as you type each letter the list of files shown diminishes until you're left with the one you're looking for. If you're looking for a downloaded file then it shouldn't be hidden in an unreachable system folder requiring root. If Search Everything doesn't find what you're looking for, it's a pretty safe bet that it's been deleted.
On your comment about the reason for your question, that your phone is getting full, have you tried Disk Usage to see where the heavy usage is? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.diskusage
And finally consider Stickmount - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.stickmount
In combination with an OTG cable (a couple of dollars) and a USB stick, Stickmount allows you to store files on the USB stick, so you can have effectively unlimited storage.
