So I have the Charge, it's stock. I've added a few apps but that's it. Here in the last couple of weeks when playing Pandora or the music loaded on the phone it just stops. It doesn't exit the player, just stops. At first I thought it was just Pandora, so I tried to listen to my music loaded on the phone and it does it as well. Does anyone know what's going on? It didn't do that before. I don't know what's changed, Maybe an upgrade?
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Bryan
Oh, and this will happen with the screen on or off.
Had the same issue on stock, Pandora would act as though I had paused it. I would just tap pause and it would resume playing again.
Oddly, I have not had the same issue since flashing the EP3HA debloat & updated kernel.
Same issue here. Just hit play and continue listening. It doesn't happen all that often.

Moving to Q&A
I went to the last place on earth to get answers A VERIZON STORE, and they called the tech people and there have been no known complaints about this. They suggested a hard reset. I've been listening to my music (loaded on the SD card) and it's stopped at least 5 times. I think it's the player. IDK.
I wander? I know that if you unplug the speakers/headphones it will pause the music. I wander if the connector on the phone isn't getting hot or something and disconnecting. I'm gona listen to it on the speaker and see if it still happens.
I get it all the time

sounds like it could be a number of things: bad audio chip, bad 3.5mm connector (either in the phone or headphone plug is defective/not enough rings or whatever on connector to work properly), could be the Pandora app or music player app being retarded... you would have to try different headphones, different apps, using your headphones on another Charge if you could and see if it still happens, clearing app data/cache or uninstalling/reinstalling the apps... idk just my 2 cents, I've never had audio problems on my Charge
Normally I'd agree, however like I said this just started. I've used this particular speaker set from day one. I bought this phone the day they came out and I've used the music player and pandora from the day I bought it. I just started having this issue last week. To day, on the way home (hour drive) I let the mp3 player play through the speaker. By the time I got home it stopped. But not in the normal way. There was no sound but the player was still playing. I stopped it and then restarted and it still had no sound. I made a call using the speaker and that worked. After the call I tried the audio again and what do you know, it worked. So that really doesn't tell me anything lol.
So I gave in and did the hard reset. And as I thought, nothing changed. It still stops playing. The only difference is now I have to redownload my apps. I think I'm going to set up my video camera and let it record it and then take it into the store. That way they can see that it does it with both internal and external programs. Then see what they say. I do have the insurance, I wonder if they would change it out?

sounds like its defective hardware then, maybe the sound card's going out... and they should be able to switch it out under warranty so you don't have to pay the deductible or whatever for Asurions insurance claim
blazing through on my 4G Droid Charge
Samsung wants me to send it in, but this is the only phone I have. I do have the insurance from VW so I guess I'll be seeing them this weekend.
Oh, here is a funny.
So I e-mailed Samsung and explained my issue. I was told to transfer the music to the phone that way we could see if it wasn't the SD card.
Saw this thread and figured I'd chime in.
I'm having very similar issues for the last few months with any audio software:
-Listen
-Rhapsody (I have a subscription)
-Pandora
-Music player (from Google)
Doesn't seem to matter if I'm playing media off of SD or streaming. For a while I thought it was the overzealous stock task killer. I was running bone stock 2.2 when these issues started occurring. Tried a factory reset, formatted SD card to no avail. That failed to fix it... I rooted and flashed 2.3.5 with imoseyon's kernel but that didn't do the trick either (but I love how the phone runs now).
I went into a Verizon store to see if they've seen similar complaints. Rep looked at my phone and searched for any similar complaints in the database but found none. He went ahead and ordered me a refurb to swap without too much fuss.
Guess we'll see what happens next.
I've been having "skips" while listening to mps3 or streaming music myself. I tried several players off the market plus Rhapsody and Spotify. In an hour I would get 5 or so skips if not more once in a while. Skips kinda like how a cd player would back in the day.
I finally had enough with it (and data and gps issues) and called in today. Told them I already did a hard reset so the rep just sent me out a new phone. I'll see how it works out. The second it gives me issues I will just call back in for another Charge.
Heaven forbid but if I go through 4-5 handsets I am requesting a Droid Bionic. They seem to have their own issues but Moto has came out and said their OTA fix is coming in 30-60 days. I've yet to hear about an official OTA for the charge yet and its damn near the end of the year...
Just received my new device while at work. Immediately popped in the sim and sd card from my old phone and downloaded Pandora to stream at my desk. Songs kept played for hours non stop with no issues.
Everything was fine until I started installing apps. Pandora continues to pause at random.

So I've searched and not had any luck with a problem like what I'm experiencing. All kinds of low volume, or even tinny sound, but nothing like what I'm experiencing.
So when I've got music playing (from an app like Pandora) there is this popping sound that happens. It kind of sounds like it's clipping the highs or like the song was badly encoded. I thought at first it was just the song I had on, but I listened closely and it's on almost every song. Now I haven't tried loading some mp3's of my own on the phone yet to see what will happen, but I suspect the same results.
Did I get a bad phone? Is this a common issue? I'm still well within my 30 day grace period so if there is a problem I will take the phone back and get it replaced.
For some more info, the phone is rooted and running Cyanogen Mod 7 (I installed it this evening hoping that might fix the issue). Any help or a pointer in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
No one has any idea's or thoughts?
Try some of your own mp3s to make sure it isn't the phone. If it still happens try clearing Pandoras data.
Also check into the encoding/streaming settings for pandora.
I might also try clearing the dalvik to help prevent any issues as a start.

Happens with me all the time! Any song, any ringtone... even the stock HTC ones produce a bad sound
The phones says Dolby surround and does not even produce normal quality sound!
I have the same issue (I think)
My ear piece volume is very loud and the sound is great but when it comes to exterior sounds the Inspire makes, it is really horrible!
My ringtone, email and text sound notifications are so low in volume (With the volume set at the highest level for all) that I don't even notice it has gone off.
I just bought it 3 days ago and coming from the HTC HD2 I am really disappointed. I missed 6 calls and dozens of texts and emails just today because I can't hear it when it's in my leather holster, same holster I used with the HD2.
I'm not sure what to do to fix it and I would really appreciate any suggestions to improve the sound levels. Otherwise I'm gonna return it before my 30 day trial period expires. A phones is useless if you can't hear it.
Sounds like they changed something when they built this phone for ATT. Why is it that phones for ATT always seem to have some quirk to them?
Recorded a video which seemed to go fine. Tried to play it back and got nothing but a black screen. So, tried playing a YouTube vid. Same thing, just a black screen. Tried a Watch preview, black screen. Tried a Flash video in the browser, same deal. Reboot, try again, still black. ??????????
Figured I'd be doing a factory reset, formatting the SD, who knows?
So, shutdown, pull battery, pull and re-seat the SD a couple of times, reboot. Now video plays fine again in all of the above apps.
Just an FYI.
Edit: Last night I turned off the phone and charged it overnight. Tried playing video this morning and the problem is back. Nothing but a black screen in all video playback. Going to format the SD and see if that helps.
No one else has seen this?
Update: Formatted SD yesterday morning, since then video has played perfectly.

Tried playing a vid I recorded on the phone, as well as YouTube, Watch, and flash in the browser. All just show a black screen.
Yes, with three factory fresh T-Mobile phones and SIM cards.
I can't trace it to anything in particular, but I am not letting it update itself. I am NOT an Android or HTC expert. And once it happens, the video playback is trashed until I do a factory reset.
T-Mobile tech support said this is a KNOWN issue, they have many identical complaints, and the best they can offer is to wait for FW fix.
A factory reset will fix the issue with all playback sources I have tried, but I can't tie it down to what triggers it. Rumors include Flash Player other than what is stock, YouTube app, etc., as well as an obscure sound notification checkbox in settings.
You can't just "re-choose" or "confirm" your phone as the player either - that did not work for me. T-Mobile knows its an issue, for whatever comfort that gives you.
Interestingly, it never makes the camera malfunction for snapshots.
Tough call, since HD recording is a huge selling point of this phone. I have not tried to download a video to my computer to see if it plays. I can't assume it is corrupted since it may have been playing fine all along, but I probably should check.
Also, other media players can't seem to play it either in the phone, but I am no expert their on choices.

Interesting.
I called HTC and they diagnosed it as a bad SD card. Shipping me a new one under warranty.
Called TMO and the CSR looked up known issues and this wasn't on her list. So, some conflicting info apparently from TMO.
Did a reformat of the SD and video is working for now. But then just popping the SD last night fixed it until this morning. So, we'll see.
I've ordered a 16Gb SD, and will be getting a replacement 8Gb from HTC, so will have a couple of cards to play with. I hope it's a flaky SD, since that's easily fixed.

So is "Restart" more like removing the battery? I did try a power off/on yesterday and it didn't fix the problem. Then resorted to popping the battery and SD, which did temporarily fix it. But based on a post in another thread, and the slower boot, it appears a restart is actually a more thorough reset than power off, which seems backwards. If so, good to know.
Regardless, having to reset the phone to make vids play is not acceptable. The real problem needs to be identified by HTC and fixed.

yes restart closes all apps and make things work again i did let htc know and they said they will escalate the problem to the proper resources to be fixed in and update they also told me the sensation will be getting a update before august
Update: Since I formatted my SD card yesterday morning video playback has worked perfectly. Will update again as needed.
Update2: Now I really have a black screen. Phone totally died this morning. Went to TMO store and swapped batteries, nothing. Door nail. Called TMO and it will be a week before I can get a replacement.

I really like the phone. Best phone available in the US for me. So, don't want to kiss it goodbye quite yet.
What I don't like is the replacement policy. TMO CSR told me all the stores are privately owned, and aren't actually part of T-Mobile. Since I purchased through Customer Care over the phone the store won't do a replacement. Ok, but they could ship me a replacement right away for a confirmed at the store dead phone, and charge my credit card full retail price if I don't return the bad one. Two hours on the phone and waiting a week for a replacement isn't a positive customer experience.
Well, something got changed with mine because none of that stuff worked for me, but now I no longer have issues with video. My rep said it was known. We did try the "Audible Selection" possibility but no help. I had to do a factory reset.
Maybe a flash issue, maybe a small FW push, I don't know.
I'm too new to Android to hack around and see, coming over from the Windows 6.5 crowd.
We'll see, but I think at going on 3 weeks if it was going to fail it would by now.
Hi all,
Everything with the Nexus (16gb Black) is working great aside from my pandora. When streaming through 3G/LTE, songs cut in/out. It's not regular lag though - it'll play a random bit from the song out of order and then basically mute itself. From there, the song is still progressing but not producing any sound. If i pause/play it, it'll play a random bit from the song again and mute itself. I do want to note that it feels related to the lock screen- it generally happens when i'm locking it and such.
I've looked everywhere and the only mention i've seen of this was in the google play reviews, but even those weren't specific.
Also want to note that the SIM card the rep at my sprint store gave me is supposedly used for air devices be cause he didn't have any other ones available. Will this impair any use of my phone? Everything else seems to be working just fine

Is is when playing through your phone speakers? I very rarely listen to pandora on my phone, not connected to a bluetooth device. So I am curious if it is pandora, or possibly a fault in the Nexus' speakers.

It plays music that's on the phone as well as from other apps so it shouldn't be related to the speaker/audio jack. Unfortunately my car's radio doesn't have bluetooth so it's generally through the audio jack. I'm leaning towards pandora on this one, but even an old .apk from my GS3 was having the issues.
Could the SIM card that the sprint rep gave me cause issues like that? he said the card he gave me is made specifically for their LTE air devices but that it shouldn't have any issues. I've seen my data drop out a few times, could this be the culprit?

Can't say 100% yes or no, but that would be the first thing I tried outside of reinstalling the app, and a factory reset.
I know when I went to the G1, I had a SIM card issue that caused data loss, solved by a new SIM. Which is why I didn't take a chance with the Nexus 5, and just got a new SIM from T-Mobile vs cutting down my exisitng SIM.

probably. I haven't had a single issue with the N5 and pandora/g-music/songza. do you usually have spotty coverage with sprint? my guess is a bad SIM though if you can see the data cutting in/out and you dont have these problems on other phones.

I haven't had a SIM before on any phone with sprint, not even the GS3 - The coverage isn't the best but i've never had the in/out like i am with the nexus. The main complaint with sprint is that i'd get the icons for 4g available with the GS3, but whenever i was connected to the 4g i couldn't access anything. Sprint rep told me it was because the towers are active but have no bandwith at the moment as they're not 100% up and running(??). I think I'll go and get a new SIM tonight and see if i still have issues after that.
I did root it but didn't install anything past that. From my understanding that shouldn't affect anything, but i figured it may be worth mentioning.
For your information.
-Unrooted, it only has the Aviate launcher but this thing has been going on weeks before it.
-No cellular service(I am using it only at WiFi. It is like as if it were an iPod touch.)
-Happens in videos, YouTube daily motion etc.
-Only when using earphones.
Hey forum! I once again bring up another problem with my Nexus 5. I had it for 60ish days, and this thing has only been occurring for a few weeks. It is this annoying sound which occurs when I plug my headphones and watch some YouTube videos. Initially I thought it was my headphones, but I used two and found that the problem was the same. I believe it is definitely my Nexus 5, but I do not know why and how. It is a pest to me which I want to exterminate, and I gladly could use some help. Is this worthy enough to send back and get a new device? If so, what do I need to be aware of (additional charges, if I can ask for a new color etc).
I found this video which has strong resemblance to my problem only his occurs on speaker. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XZSef6fuKU&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Thank you for your help,
EL

I'm having the same issue on my N5 (stock, rooted). I've been searching online, but have yet to find an explanation or solution. I'll report back here if that changes.
Hopefully somebody else on this forum can chime in with some useful information.
I'm getting an annoying buzzing through my headphone jack as well. Noticed it more when playing through my car stereo. I'm inclined to say it's software related, not hardware. Hopefully in 4.4.3 there will be something that will take care of it. I can't see the hardware degrading that quickly, i've only had my phone for less than 4 months and this issue is just starting.
So I think I solved this problem on my phone. Before, I was having glitchy hiccups at least once per song. This hasn't happened once in the past two days since I went into the xposed module gravitybox and disabled "More music volume steps." Hopefully this helps someone else or perhaps inspires them to their own solution.

I do have more music steps in the ROM settings I changed, but not on Gravity Box. I'll have to see if those are possibly a cause.
I have the same issue but also when playing music using the internal speakers of the phone. It happens when playing music with Spotify and YouTube but I do not think it ever happened to ingame music of any game.
I will also try the XPosed module and report back if it worked..
Edit: Using this tweak of GravityBox did not work for me. The buzzing continues
everyone with this problem
does it only happen when you have the phone plugged into a car or home charger?
i have always gotten this on all my android phones when charging and listening to music in my car or with headphones.. its just one of those things that happens because all the components inside our phones arent shielded as well as they should be
It does not has anything to do with the charger because it happens without it plugged in
Does anyone have updates on the issue? It still occurs on my phone, even on Android L. So I guess it cannot be a software issue
Mine does this all the time when I'm watching videos on YouTube on speaker or headphone... On every ROM from stock to slimkat (using now) and sometimes through the music player. I'm guessing it's some sort of WiFi interference?
My newly acquired Nexus 5 also suffers from this issue
It's exactly the same as in the video. And I don't know why, it's more apparent when watching youtube videos, and much less common when listening to music (both locally with Poweramp and while streaming with Spotify).
I also can confirm this has nothing to do with the device being in charge or not.
Help??
I'm going to buy Nexus 5 soon and that issue sounds really bad to me. Any more information about it? I listen to music on my phone every day and I'd be really disappointed if the noise happened to me.
For me that issue stills persists after over half a year of owning the Nexus 5. I tried several ROMs, some Audio Mods. Nothing helped. I guess it must be a hardware issue.
I wrote a ticket about it to LG, but never got an answer. Since there is not much discussion about it in the internet it appears like it is only an issue with a small amount of devices. So if you are going to buy one the chances are low to get this bug.
You are probably right but when I consider my luck, I still get worried. Keeping my fingers crossed though Thanks for an update.
i think all nexus 5 devices have it, but not everybody notices it.
from my experience with various brands, as much as i dislike them as a company, but samsung has the best headphone jack sound output.

I see. I'm not a big fan of Samsung either, I had some phones from them and I didn't really like those Also for comparision, HTC Desire Z's sound that was coming from the minijack output was perfect for me on my Soundmagic PL11 buds (I'm not an audiophile).
I need to get a new phone anyway and Nexus 5 seems to be something I was looking for - cheap, powerful and comes with Full HD screen. Even if headphone jack isn't going to work well...

The headphone jack on the N5 works well, i listen to music through my phone almost on a daily basis, so you don't have to worry about that, but i've come across the glitch linked in OP several times, and it can be reproduced. it doesn't just appear out of nowhere.
i had have this issue from when i bought my device
Annoying buzz and static noise but ya live with it ,regard's joe.
since upgrading to lollipop i can notice this sound glitch (while listening to music over headphones) more often, it occurs once in every 10min for sure... it's really annoying
I hope it's not placebo, but for me, since the lollipop upgrade, I haven't noticed this noise. I've even been listening to more music than before, as this quite got on my nerves, but now it seems to be gone.
Several months ago I got an Insignia Alarm Clock/Speaker from Best Buy. It was $20 bucks - a total steal! It sounded great and has been working fine.
However, in the last week, whenever I play music from my tablet or phone every the music will skip or stutter. I have not done anything new to the tablet or speaker that would cause this (that I know of). The phone seems to play the music for longer before there's an issue, but not by much. Weirdly, I've noticed it's more prone to dropping out during a quiet lull in the music. I listen to a lot of instrumental music and whenever one instrument is playing alone, like a piano, it almost seems like the speaker mutes itself inbetween notes. It's hard to explain and super bizarre.
I've tried restarting the speaker, the tablet, reconnecting the Bluetooth - nothing has worked so far. My tablet is fairly old - a Galaxy Tab S - but my phone is a brand new Pixel 3 XL. It'd be odd if the speaker was failing already, but at least it'd be some kind of explanation. It's driving me bonkers. I can post some recordings of what I'm hearing if that will help anyone understand what I mean.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Try booting to recovery and wipe the cache partition, if that doesn't solve the issue then the issue is deeper or it might be because the speaker has low quality hardware/software(doubtful, but possible). More than likely, it's something else that you have installed on the device(s) causing this. You can try booting your phone or tablet into "safe mode", this mode only loads the preinstalled app that came with the device, if the issue is not present while in safe mode, then you know it's caused by something that you installed. If it is still present while booted into safe mode, then it might be caused by something that came pre-installed on the device running in the background, youd have to start experimenting by disabling system apps until you find the culprit causing the issue.
NOTE: Disabling system apps can cause serious issues with device functionality so be careful which ones you disable.
