I've tried every method. Odin doesn't recognize my phone. I've downloaded drivers a half dozen times. I've gotten every file set up only to have odin just sit there without giving me a com.
Then I've tried several versions of z4, oneclickroot, and gingerbreak. Nothing works. I'm wondering if there's just no way to root or flash my phone.
I'm on an sgs i500.04
Gingerbread 2.3.5
K EI20
Was rooted with oneclick till update, through kies, to gingerbread.
Cspire.
Anyone please help. I'm going a little crazy over this.
i give up
I guess a way just doesn't exist for my phone.
Things I've tried unsuccessfully:
DoomLorD.zip (every version) (Unable to copy SU files, reboot, not rooted)
OneClick (every version)
Gingerbreak ( '' )
z4
SDK with adb recovery (E:signature verification failed)
Odin (will not recognize my phone in download mode)
Cannot get heimdall(sp) do download.? probably couldnt use it anyway.
I thought to wait on a rooted ICS version, and would love to flash that to my phone, but have no ODIN! Go figure.
Anyway, I guess there is just not a way to do my phone. It resists all methods. Does anyone else with a i500 Showcase on the kies update to gingerbread 2.3.5 have this problem? Is this Cspire gingerbread unhackable?
Hey, sent you a pm...

Who is your carrier?
jbreakfield, you're alive?
samsung drivers
Do you have proper samsung drivers installed for your windows version..Also check to see if usb debugging is activated. Im no expert but hopefully this helps.
Another idea is to try a different usb port. I had one go bad.
I spent about a day uninstalling, rebooting, installing several different drivers. Also rebooting after each new install. No matter what I did ODIN wouldn't see my phone.
I got the idea to try another usb on the back of my desktop pc.
ODIN finally connected!
Hope this helps. Regards.

SuperOneClick

enable debugging on the phone, plug it in, if you need drivers use the ones inside the zip file. Run the program and hopefully the rest is pretty self-explanatory.

I am just starting to learn about android and I was having a bit of difficulty following other peoples tutorials on how to root a phone. I have a samsung galaxy s 4g for tmobile with firmware 2.2.1 and am looking to root the phone. If there is another topic explaining this clearly feel free to link me to it and then close the topic. All I need is a tutorial on how to root my phone because I'm rather afraid I'm going to brick it on accident. Sorry if I broke any rules mods, I'm just getting started on android...
You can use superoneclick to root it. Very very easy.

okay so get superoneclick from here?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
And can someone just give me a very brief step by step on how to do it? I have USB debugging enabled btw, should I disable it or? And I know for you guys its REALLY easy what I'm asking, so sorry about that, I'm just not very experienced about android.
UPDATE: I'm following the video at the end of the superoneclick topic.
You can also use Odin to flash a modded kernel that will give root and custom clockwork mod recovery.

Search the forum for "GB ext4 starter pack". I can't get the link from the mobile app.

Or give superoneclick another shot. It does take a bit sometimes and may seem frozen. I had to do it twice for it to work on gingerbread. Also make sure you have the current version. Do a google search for it and find the most up to date one.

Last option is to read up on flashing and try one of raver's kick ass roms. They are rooted.

How to put latest version of android on SGS4G
Sorry about the numerous posts, I have now successfully rooted my phone (I know its not impressive...). Now I have a few questions:
1. How do I put the latest stock android on my SGS4G? Or the latest "good" version of android on my SGS4G?
2. Since the phone is default on tmobile, I was wondering, will I still be able to do wifi calls? What I mean by that is, when I got the phone, it had a wifi calling app that turned off cell phone connections whenever I had wifi.
3. Will I be able to tether without tmobile charging me for tethering? I do have a data plan.
4. I know rooting is basically like gaining administrator access, but what are the biggest advantages of rooting? Just a personal question to you guys.
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP GUYS. It really helps.
It might be better to keep this thread on topic. Your original question is one mentioned many times over in the forum, but since this is a newer thread maybe you can share with others looking to root how you successfully rooted your phone so they can learn from you. Pay it forward in a sense.

Sorry, I noobishly thought I was posting a new topic on my previous reply actually, and when I realized my mistake it was too late. And good suggestion btw.
So basically all I did was, install the drivers of my phone, which can be automatically done with the superoneclick software (in other words, the superoneclick software can install your phone driver itself)
in case your wondering where I got the superoneclick software from it was from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
And then click http://shortfuse.org/ and download it from there. On the top of the topic on the xda forum, it should tell you the latest version of superoneclick, and download that one for shortfuse. Once you've done all that, all I did was one, turn on USB debugging
1. Applications
2. Settings
3. Applications
4. Development
5. Check USB debugging
Then connect my phone (SGS4G) to my computer, and when the screen pops up on your phone asking you if you want to use it as a flash drive blah blah blah, just exit out of it, and click flash on your computer in superoneclick, from there everything should be self explanatory. Its not hard at all, but I suggest being careful since you can brick your phone (which is probably expensive).
Sorry if I did anything wrong, feel free to correct me.
if ur on 2.2.1 u can use z4 root one click 5 minutes ur done no computer needed its an apk file and u can temp or permanant root good luck
You are digging up old posts and anwering questions that have been answered??
Side Note - As of the last 8 months I have not seen the app mentioned above recommended as a method to root.
I need to root. After bricking and using odin to get back to stock, my phone wont root again. why, you ask? well, because the phone will not connect to the computer via adb interface. I have usb debugging on, I connect my phone, it installs to the computer, but adb wont work for me. neither will super one click. is there a way to root without using a computer? maybe through terminal emulator? or an app that will work? I know z4 wont work i tried it. someone please give me some advice here. im on xp, i have tried different drivers, tried rebooting the phone, nothing works. please help.

I bricked my sk4g due to bad rom flash. I wanted to try one click unbrick, but couldnt get it to work on my computer. So my only other option was to odin it back to stock. before bricking, i had rooted it with superoneclick. i immediately tried superoneclick after odin. several different things would happen. one, it would go through the whole process and say i was rooted, but root checker pro would say i didnt have root. two, superoneclick would tell me my device was unreadable. i would ignore it and it would go through, but still not rooted. three, superoneclick would hang after killing the adb server. I then attempted to root manually. I downloaded rageagainstthecage and atempted to push it through a command prompt. I have sdk installed and all the other necessary things for a manual root. but when i typed adb devices in command prompt, the list came up empty. i deleted all the drivers, plugged the phone back in, and let the drivers reinstall several times, but my device still will not connect to the adb interface. the drivers are installing, and the usb is connecting through storage mode and firmware update mode, but not through adb no matter what i do. i am on windows xp and i do not have another computer to use. someone please tell me how to root another way or possibly flash a rooted rom through odin. thank you.

And now you should successfully rooted on stock firmware
some of those pages I have already been to. the stock rom you linked is the rom I used to odin my phone. some of those pages were confusing to me, and as far as cwm recovery goes, need root to change recovery binary. before bricking, I had root and cwm. what i need (sorry to sound like such a noob) is a step by step in this thread. please dont post links to me unless they apply to my particular situation. superoneclick, odin, cwm, these are all things i already know how to do. my question is how can i root if my phone wont connect to my pc through adb?
also, odin still recognizes my phone. i can still brick my phone and odin it all day long if i want to. I used the tutorial in one of the links you posted and downloaded the odexed stock rom and followed the tutorial exactly. the phone works, but i cant root it. there has to be someone who can help me figure this out.
bumping this thread hoping someone out there has some useful info for me. thanks
Did you turn on USB debugging?
settings->applications->development->USB Debugging
yes I did. adb is not connecting.
basically what I need is a way to flash a rooted rom through odin or another way to root without using adb. possibly without connecting to the computer, like through terminal emulator or something?
what if I added superuser, busybox, and su to my stock odin rom that I have and just odin again? would that give me root?

xtrem88, do you understand what I am saying? I bricked my phone and had to use odin to get it back to stock. now my phone will not root. superoneclick runs, but for some reason doesnt configure root properly. i end up with superuser installed, but no root. when i try to root through command prompt, i type in adb devices and the list comes back empty. what I think I want to do at this point is odin a rooted rom.
Ohhh ok now i get it you got to. Odin it again and do not connect storage

I am updating the firmware through kies mini right now, since the firmware i odin'd wasnt the latest. I just unmounted and removed the sd card. are you saying that was the problem before?
Yeah dont use the sd card

I got it rooted. Im on KD1 firmware, but at least I am rooted. I feel like a simpleton, though. Wait till I tell you what the problem was. I was using superoneclick the whole time, and it wasnt working. I re-read the tutorial for the umpteenth time to see if I had missed anything, and it finally dawned on me that each time root had failed, I hadnt rebooted my device after running superoneclick. I just ran superoneclick, it did its thing, I disconnected and rebooted, and voila, I have root. I verified root by going to superuser and updating the su binary. thats how i knew it failed before. each time i would try to update su, it would say obtaining root access and it would fail. this time when it said obtaining root access, superuser asked for permission and i knew I had root. I am so ticked at myself for spending so much time doing it wrong, but so happy that I finally did it right lol. the whole time I thought odin was causing the problem, but im glad to know it wasnt. now i know if i brick my phone again, i can just odin and root and the phone will be back to running and rooted in like 10 minutes.
Lmao

guys, please help me root my infuse firmware 2.3.6.. i had 2.2.1 frayo and used odin3 to upgrade gingerbread 2.3.6. I was using root.bat file to root my older firmware, but seems like it is not working with now as it says error:device not found.
I know I have asked it but the answer must be there somewhere in 1000 threads. Please don't be angry and help me to root my device.. really appreciate your help..
try to use the search function. the answer is in the forums several times. if you cant find it look harder.
2.3.6
USB debugging isnt working with this new GB update, i had rolled back too 2.2.1 to do a test and it was working fine, so we cant root yet on 2.3.6 which sucks

Sorry, but neither of these statements are true. USB debugging works fine in the latest Gingerbread update, and it can be rooted. We've been able to root these 2.3.6 releases for awhile now.

So I somehow screwed up my phones ability to use wifi. I have already googled this for days and couldn't find anything helpful.
This is what I did:
I had originally rooted my phone (Samsung Captivate i897) when it had Froyo 2.2 but later upgraded to Gingerbread 2.3.5 via Kies.
[EDIT] (I don't know why, but I thought that I had GB 2.3.3)
A few days ago, I discovered that I know longer had superuser access and looked into it; sure enough, my phone was no longer rooted. I decided to root it again.
I put my phone into download mode w/ debug mode on and used-
Odin3 v1.7 and flashed the file "I897UCKF1-AutoRoot-DesignGears.tar"
All seemed good...until I went to enable the wifi.
Whenever I try, It turns on and automatically begins scanning for networks (normal). After a few seconds it disconnects wifi without so much as a warning.
I really need my phone's wifi back! I use it a lot in my programming classes. PLEASE HELP ME!!! YOU GUYS ARE MY LAST HOPE!!!!!
[EDIT] Also, I believe that this root was for 2.3.3. Not sure if that could be the problem and yes...I am an idiot...
That kernel is not meant to be used full time. You need to flash back to the original kernel.

Also, in the future, questions need to go in the Q&A section not in General.
