[Q] ext partititon - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody,
I'd like to know what's ext partition and else...
for example all this :
- System: ext4
- Data: ext4
- Cache: ext2
- sd-ext: ext4 of 1gb
and how we do it and what's the use of it ? I've KYRRILOS 8.0 and G3MOD 2.0 OC
Thank you guy

I'm trying to figure it out 2.
I figured out for now that you can partition your sd card so you use memory on your sd card for apps(not internal phone memory).
Now I have problem to figure out how to set it up.
I also know if you have sd card class 2-4 you need app2sdv2 made by kyrillos13
and if you have class 6 or higher you need app2sdv3 also made by kyrillos13
I made partition of 1gb in CMW and downloaded app2sdv2(I have class 4 sd card)
you need to place it in on your sd card system/etc/init.d/
App2sdv2 and app2sdv3 are scripts for app2sd app.
There are some codes for terminal emulator wich is my emulator not accepting.
So I will join to you in search for an answer

formating external SD in ext4 ?

Hi !
I just installed the Lag Fix in my Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000B and looks like it is fine.
As far I understand, the lag fix patch formats the internal SD as ext4 to have more stability and speedy.
So I am wondering if the external SD card would have similar benefits if I format it as ext4 too.
I don't have a spare external SD to check it my myself, so if anyone could provide any information, would be nice.

Hi
I have an external sd card and i want to have a second partition in ext4, to put somme date on it (larges files)
i read and test since 15 days and what i can said is
you need to have a first partition (primary in fat32 on the sd card)
the second partition in ext4 is not seen by android os !!! I mean, there is no way to mount automaically these partition at boot and use it.
I have found a old lagfix from mimocan which mount external ext4 , but it is to store applications as we do in sdcard. I do believe we can use for data but it is old now we have kernel and rom with ext4 in native mode and i don't find how use ext4 on external card for data instead of program (with link2sd for exemple)
link2sd or app2sd only works with internal sd card !

android doesn't have script and code to mount under /mnt ext4 partitons just FAT32 !!!!!!!! great

[Q] NTFS or Ext4

Hi
After a long search it look like we can't have on external Sd card, NTFS or Ext4 files system.
The reason given for ext4 is " this file system is only for linux users" .. humm well and so 5 or 10% of users should ignore ?
but for NTFS i don't understand why we can't have choice to format external sd card with it ?

[Q] Internal Storage and SD Card Formatting

Hi all.... I haven't found specific answers to my questions so am posing them here.
I am running CM11
Can you expand your internal storage without doing an entire ext sd card to internal swap? I want to use only part of my ext SD card to enhance the internal storage.
Is there any point in formatting multiple partitions on the ext SD card as fat32 / ext4 / Linux swap anymore? I thought doing this would have part of the partition used for internal storage and part as the ext sd card storage. Formatting the SD card through CWM deletes all partitions and formats it all as FAT32 for external storage only.
Thanks and go Blaze haha

You can partition your SD card on your pc into pieces that android won't recognize..follow this as a guide..the program is fantastic

Thanks ink. I will look at this more tonight but I did use Partition Wizard Home and formatted the first partition as FAT32 which is recognized as the external SD card1 in CM11 but the 2nd EXT4 partition isn't recognized by the ROM it seems. Maybe I just don't know how it would be used but checking the storage in settings didn't have any change to internal.
