No galaxy nexus for Big Red? - Verizon Droid Charge

Just read on TeamANDIRC Twitter page that word is starting to leak out that VZW might squash the release of the Galaxy Nexus. If this is true, that would be a travesty. considering how many user and devs alike are planning to pick up this device. I am not one of them but thought you guys might want to know...

It's all rumor until the day when it actually does or does not release.
Currently, it's listed in all the internal documentation we've seen come out of Verizon. So we need to see an updated sheet with a different date or a change notice that it's not coming out before we can give any real credence to the rumors.
Honestly, unless it's fatally flawed (10 minute battery life, or something else of the sort), I can't see it not launching on Verizon, as it would be their only true enthusiast device, which they need to further the cause of Android phones on the network.

LOL, I waited like 6 months for the Bionic & when I finally got one it was such a steaming pile I returned it in a week & got my Charge.
Best move I've made in a while, SO GLAD I'm not stuck with the Bionic for the next year or so........

Big Red decided not to bring the Galaxy S2 to its lineup because the Bionic(which was the first 4g+dual core Android) was coming out around the same time the GS2 was being released in the states. Since it took Moto about 5+ months to get the 4g+dual core technology working they didn't want the GS2 just swooping in and stealing the spot light.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they canned the Nexus as well but don't lose faith until it's official.

according to jcase on twitter it was just officially confirmed everyone calm down

We don't know why Verizon decided not to carry the SGS2, because they haven't said. It's just as likely VZW and Samsung agreed not to go with the S2 because they knew the superior Nexus was right down the road. Either way, it's misleading to say "Big Red decided x" when any theory is just that: a theory.

Supposedly it's coming out in July for Verizon

If its LTE yes.
I had the fascinate and I will not ever buy ANY samsung product. I even returned a samsung monitor I had back to costco.
I loved my Vibrant, I'd probably go back to Sammy if it was LTE.
It is surely tempting, to say the least.
yeah, had a fascinate. i think i'll pass on this. samsung phones feel cheap and they use too much plastic. just doesnt feel like an expensive device.

This. Worst phone I've ever owned, and I've had every android on VZW except for the Ally and Inc.
I'll wait until it launches, see what the developer scene looks like, before I make a decision. I won't be jumping on launch day, but I've been impressed with Samsung's recent actions, fast kernel source releases, donations of phones to developers, etc.

what will be your next phone?

i switch phones very often, usually every 3-4 months... but since i bought my tbolt at best buy i have to hold onto it till at least january which will be a challenge for me.
i know verizon doesn't always carry the best top of the line phones but ill be looking at the next iphone or hopefully the galaxy s 2 early next year.

im pretty content with my tbolt. it does everything i need. the 3d would be pretty sweet on it though
i probably paid more because i went through best buy, although my wife's lg vortex was free so all in all im happy. i think the sg2 will be my next phone.

Probably the Bionic. According to engadget, it will have full HDMI mirroring. Assuming this is true, it will be my next phone. (when it has been rooted, no much launch day buys for me.) If it isn't true, then I will wait till something has an HDMI out with a 960x540 or> display. As far as hardware goes, the TB is more than enough for what I use a phone for. I rarely ever use it for gaming. So, I really only want a better screen and HDMI. That is, if I stay with VZW. If I don't it will probably be the next gen evo.

Personally, and having been an iPhone 3 and iPod Touch owner (and still am), I cannot see any advantage to an iPhone 4 from an unlocked 1GHz Android device. Battery, perhaps, and pocket portability with the small screen. I would suspect to hear of your disappointment after a thunderbolt.

They bent over backwards for Apple because they have been kicking themselves since they passed on the iPhone the first time. They saw the chance to steal a big amount of AT&T iPhone users and jumped. Now if they actually stole a lot of AT&T iPhone users is a different matter. I don't think they stole that many so far. I think when the next iPhone comes out, they will see a big influx.

I said what I said because Verizon changed their closed ways for a iphone... Not sure why they wouldn't do it for an Android phone. The nexus phones are sellers as well and if they really want to take away users from all carriers (not just at&t) they need to have one in their line up.
They will be able to take advantage of having the fastest network (while they still can) with a 4G nexus phone.
Talk about killing it! They would rape the competition having an iPhone and a 4G nexus phone.
The time is now if they are smart.

As a previous owner of the fascinate, I am definitely with you guys on the anti-Samsung bandwagon. The thing that has changed my mind is that Samsung has said that the sgs2 is practically made for Ice Cream Sandwich. That gives me hope that they will be updating it relatively quickly once ICS is released.
Also, the fact that they gave the sgs2 to some of the CM devs makes me think they are more consumer focused than they were the first go 'round.

AT&T doesn't do the porting - Samsung does and AT&T delays the updates.
It was barely acceptable to release a Froyo phone when the Infuse was released - a Froyo-on-release phone would be dead in the market now.

What do you think would be the motivation for AT&T to delay the updates; especially for their just-released SGS2? The only thing I can think of is needing to beef up support needs. But then again, versus the lost sales.
I had just finally convinced a buddy to go with the Android o/s and especially the Infuse or the SGS2. Then he came around citing his research that both phones are really behind the curve and that he minimally wants a GB phone now.
