So who's jumping ship for the Galaxy SII? - Thunderbolt General

Supposedly it's coming out in July for Verizon
http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/08/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-said-to-be-verizon-bound-in-july/
*edit*
"Update: We just received word from a Verizon spokesperson that the reference to a July release was just a miscommunication and was actually in reference to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. "

Pass ... Not a fan of Samsung build quality

With a dual core 1.2 ghz processor it better have a good battery that comes with it stock. I am not changing phones to just get battery life that is worse then the thunderbolt.

For me, if it's not HTC, pass!

If it's LTE, I'll use my upgrade on it.

Wish it had lte then I would get

SII seems solid but the Droid 3 may be my Thunderbolt replacement.

The Droid Bionic supposedly is a 4.5 LTE monster...but blur and locked bootloader...no thanks

If its LTE yes.

I had the fascinate and I will not ever buy ANY samsung product. I even returned a samsung monitor I had back to costco.

I loved my Vibrant, I'd probably go back to Sammy if it was LTE.

It is surely tempting, to say the least.

yeah, had a fascinate. i think i'll pass on this. samsung phones feel cheap and they use too much plastic. just doesnt feel like an expensive device.

This. Worst phone I've ever owned, and I've had every android on VZW except for the Ally and Inc.

I'll wait until it launches, see what the developer scene looks like, before I make a decision. I won't be jumping on launch day, but I've been impressed with Samsung's recent actions, fast kernel source releases, donations of phones to developers, etc.

Nope pass

Fascinate was not that bad, minus Bing and the poor updates of course. Build quality is subjective.

Nope holding onto my Thunderbolt for a while... All i care is that tethering works and I'll wait for a nice quad-core tablet to come out and do all my heavy lifting on that.

Well i can return my Captivate until jan 30. If it comes out before then I may keep it, otherwise return and hold out for the Motorola Atrix most likely.

Upgrade to Sgs Skyrocket or stay with infuse?!

I'm on the fence! I barley became elgible for an upgrade. I was going to go with an iphone 4S and just sell it however the Skyrocket seems tempting. The specs seem only slightly better than my infuse. However my infuse has been buggy lately. Should I stay with the infuse and sell my upgrade? Or should I splurge for the skyrocket? I'm currently in an area that doesn't yet have LTE so AT&T will give it to me for $149

Agreed... If you're looking for development, I'd stick with the SGS2. I think the Skyrocket is going to have limited development and the LTE could cause issues like it has on Verizon with development. Just my own two cents. Or hold out for the Galaxy Nexus.
No issues here. I'm currently running both phones. Skyrocket does everything my infuse does only faster, and the battery last me almost twice as long. Side by side screen is same size, but skyrocket has shorter housing which to me makes the phone feel a tad bit smaller in hand.

the infuse dev will never be what it will be on th sgs2 varients especially not the i9100 or i777 but i think one thing holding up the infuse is that we expexted a quick 2.3 upgrade so froyo development stopped. i mean in janurary samsung advertied the infuse a a gb device. then we got rogers rom but it didnt satisafy everyone. i was gonna start up a rom on froyo and then we got some leaks. but now we dont have source code froyo doesnt look appealing and the gb leaks are dropping so fast nobody is interested in working with them.
i think there will be 1 or 2 decent roms once att says it's ok to drop a new firmware version but from the leaks id have to say samsung isn't ready. i foresee the same situations that happened on the captivate. come december we'll all bring up the add showing the 11 or so devices promised gb by the end of the year (like samsung promised froyo for the galaxy s varients on twitter in the us but att missed that deadline) and att will simply say "we had problems" which is all rediculous because it looks like samsung only started woring on the update 2 months ago, which probably has more to do with att not showing interest in an update than anything else.
Granted, I don't believe the Skyrocket will be getting ICS in a timely manner because AT&T truly sucks in the upgrade department...but I doubt it will be abandoned like the Infuse was. Any phone that can run ICS will be somewhat coveted.
The Infuse became outdated and forgotten because it was one of the last single cores made. There are always going to be people who want the bigger display. I personally hated the size of the S2. I can never go back to a smaller screen again. The think the Skyrocket will hold it's own with the "size matters" crowd. It looks like a great phone and nearly everyone who has one is loving it.
I was at att the other day upgrading gf line to the HTC vivid, I noticed the infuse was off all displays and all the cases and such were locked in a drawer. The rep also told me that LTE won't be up here in Maine until next upgrade, lol, although its launched in Mass. She also informed me that I can early upgrade any of my 3 lines for a diduction of $200 off retail ($450) ill wait another month or 2 than upgrade my line, ill only lose a few months while my 3rd line upgrades next may. Also, my infuse as been super buggy as of late, I'm now getting strange bubble popping sounds with volume off and with out touching anything, this is my 3rd infuse.

Nexus is here....

I just saw it at the Verizon store.. they can't sell it till tomorrow.
I held it in my hand.. very weird with the curve.. will be great with the ladies..
Will go back in the morning and put it to the test next to my SR..
From what I can tell the only thing good about the phone is ICS..
*EDIT*... Okay.. went out eariler and saw this "wonder phone"... I brought my sr to compare..
People.. this Nexus is nothing.. feels cheap, and feels smaller then the SR.. I can't tell the difference in the screen except mine looks better.... ICS is the only selling point on this phone.. Could I feel a 'difference" well. stock to stock yes. But with different launchers.. etc.. I can't tell my phone from the Nexus..
If you want to pay $300 for a sub par phone with ICS by all means go ahead... I'm keeping the SR.
I just got the email...released today for sale (15th)

I was really considering buying one of the gsm versions then I did some research and found out about the galaxy s2 hd lte which is pretty much the same phone but without ice cream sandwich, but I keep comparing and found the deal breaker, the galaxy nexus does not have micro sd slot which is a android first for me. Sounds like some apple maddness, plus I got a 64gb microsd so that just docent work for me. But hey to each his own
Verizon did a poor job at releasing that phone.
I thought the nexus was going to come out around November so I waited.
My Moto atrix screen was cracked and I couldn't wait any longer. I don't regret buying the Samsung skyrocket best phone I owned so far....
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Im tempted due to ICS but in the end it isn't worth switching to Verizon and paying money for a phone that really isn't any better just for ICS .
I had Verizon and the service was subpar. AT&T works amazingly for me with speeds. After owning an iPhone I don't want another phone without an SD slot.
ICS will be available soon enough on our SR.

Just curious how many of us out there are going to move on to the galaxy note. I'm still in my 30 days with skyrocket and trying to make the decision to return it and go back to my old phone until the note comes out. Mr ed,
Were you on LTE when you tested it? How was the reception on LTE? I wonder if it is any thicker than the International version? I may sell my skyrocket and get the ATT version to go with my International GNote if the battery life and reception etc all review out well. I will wait a month or so after the launch to make sure I see all the reviews before moving forward.
Once you get used to the GNote, the skyrocket does not cut it for resolution and features.

Hmm... according to red in another thread, AT&T is getting the GNexus.
I seriously hope that's true, so I'll wait a month or 2 (also gives the Note time to mature, and get some dev going, I don't like being an early adopter.)

I'd love to switch, but just got the combo Skyrocket + Galaxy Tab 8.9. I suppose I can't return just the Skyrocket now. The 30 day return window should be up by next week.
My only option should be selling the skyrocket on ebay. How much are they going for anyway?
Aww man the G Note, i am really wanting one but the screen size is giving me second thoughts. Maybe if i see one in person i would probably have a better decision. If not the G Note i may just hold out for the skyrocket HD with 4.65 screen it could be the perfect size for me.
Mmmm Note is very attractive but I'm going to wait the price get lower....can't wait

Any skyrocket devs going to the note? It would be nice to have some guys familiar with the hardware cooking for this monster. Im hoping that there just has to be some recompiling done to the skyrocket roms to accomadate the larger hd screen. I would guess the faux kernel would work since it says it works with pretty much all GB sammys. I almost which sammy sprung the release on us like they did with the skyrocket lol this wait is killing me

[Q] What is your next phone?

Well I, like many of you, have had my phone now for just over a year and I think its about time to look for something new. Restarts are becoming increasingly frequent and my SIM tray has become exposed to the harsh world that is a pocket as my back has snapped in two. After hundreds of reflashes and ROM installs, the phone is finally starting to give in. Anyone else experiencing similar circumstances? With the last sliver of plastic barely covering my battery, I've been looking for a worthy replacement of the BEST phone I've owned to date.
So, that being said...
What phone are you guys itching to get your hands on?
For me, I obviously see the S4 as the strongest phone, spec wise, to be coming out this year but with a release date said to be sometime after May, I may need something earlier.
HTC M7- meeeeeehh. I'd get it if it was the only 1080p phone AT&T will bring in.
Any LG Phone- nope.
Xperia Z- I reaaaally like how this phone looks and with all its specs, its tops on my list. Who knows though, by the time it comes to the states, octacores will be standard and it'll sell like the x10.

I still think those rumors of an 8 core are false, that chip set design is VERY new. And at the earliest itll drop in may, we may see reviews and sneak peaks in March however
Maybe the next Nexus, if they're able to keep the price down again and meet demand.... or if a smaller G-Note ever comes out.
I'm in no hurry though. SlimBean has been rock solid for me. I'm also getting great speeds on T-Mo (even faster d-load speeds than my friend's G-Nex) in the Bay Area.. and I have the option to go back to ATT's LTE if I ever wanted to.
