Camrecord Poor quality problem - Milestone XT720 General

hello folks ?
what's going on ?
so im newbie in this forum although i have been reading it since 2 months ago cuze this is a nice forum and i've learnt a lot stuff thanx this forum.
Today Im leaving a new Thread cuze i have a problem with my motorola xt720.
I have no idea why the problem is happening . but for some strange reason my motorola is recording video in hd mode with a poor video quality.
this is the example :
youtube plus /obD6zNfl7r4 ( i wrote in this way cuze im newbie and i cant post links )
my phone is the version with 550mhz proccesor and i have a 8gb sd card class 2.
sometimes when im recording some video, android says me that it has a problem with read/writing my sd.
also another times i can record some video with nice quality.
i had thought that the problem could be the cam was damaged but always i can take nice pics with no problems....
im thinking to change my sd and get some sd 6+ class. but i need fix this problem.
so if somebody can help me , plz leave me to know..
Thanx for all and my regards form Barranquiilla, Colombia....
So long

Hola mijaelstand,
First off, what ROM are you using? Do you have the Motorola Stock 2.1 ROM or have you flashed to anything else?
If you can sometimes record with nice quality and other times will poor quality, this may be a memory issue or a background app problem. The processor on this phone seems to need every bit of power it can get out of the CPU to record high quality video. Android 2.2 usually does a decent job of memory allocation but it depends on your minfree settings. Also background apps (if not killed by minfree) can take cpu cycles.
So as a test you can manually force close the majority of running apps under Home Screen->Menu Button->Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->Running TAB, kill things like adobe flash, facebook, maps, etc. And then try capturing a video to see if it helps the quality.
Next, if android says it has a problem with the sd card, it might be a good idea to replace it.
Lastly, I got a 404-Not found when I added the extension "/obD6zNfl7r4" to youtube[dot]com. So unfortunately, I couldn't see your video.

You have to add obD6zNfl7r4 after "/http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\"

geez, it's getting late over here... thanks Zachary
mijaelstand, I now watched the video and I think I've changed my position. When you said poor quality I thought you meant frame skipping. The video seems to have banding issues. So my recommendations may not work for your problem. I've never seen that before on my XT720.

Hi dude. Thanx for reply. : ).....
I have my phone with the original room from factory.. still i have updated it. So im 2.1 eclair android version but im planning to update it .
I have setCpu app installed with motorola milestone overclockling app and it's running at 1000mhz on demand and it's smoothin. Very nice.
Also i uploaded a video where you can watch it and it has a nice quality. Look at this:
youtube.c/watch?feature=youtube_gdata_play. er&v=_H-SzGy9TxYr
So in this way i dont think the problem is some issue with the cam... also i have my sd in 2 partition cuze lin2sd can works. Also I dont know if the problem is the processor. So i need test it as u told me.

Hey,
This seems like a pretty standard recording. My XT720 performs in the same way. The only issue I think you have is lighting. The camera performs really poorly in low light and well outside. Try taking a video outside and post it. Goodluck.

Sorry im going to upload some example video. Thanx

Videoplayback works completely fine for me.
Videcalls never were and probably never will be supported in Android.

About the Video playback, I haven't had any problems at all. Maybe try freeing up the Ram?
Video calls are not supported by Android, but if you want to try it out you can use Tango (iOS, Android) or Skype

i really want to buy this device....but i think they need to drop the price a little
but what i am really worried about is everyone is obsessed with the upcoming dual-core phones & i am afraid we wont get a community as good as for the htc desire
what do you think guys? will the desire S get a good community ?
(& also can you guys tell me if there is any restarting issue or wifi issue?)

I can't comment on the community (as I can't see the future), but as I've got the phone now I really hope that one forms!
I also share your community concern, but hope that not everyone is obsessed with these larger tablet sized phones. (DHD etc...)
I've not had a single restart and the I've had the phone for over a week.
But, the wifi drop problem is real, I don't use the phone in landscape myself so its not that bad, but, I've seen the wifi signal strength fall when I place the phone on my leg when connected to wifi. I only use wifi on the phone when in my house where the signal strength is very good, so the drop doesn't ever cause me to fall off network. (read the tech radar review conclusion).
Battery life is ok even with multiple widgets and email accounts syncing all day and fair internet usage. currently getting about 20hrs...from full charge.
Still a great phone.

I got my Desire S yesterday for $400. It feels and runs smooth. It's a little small like a wildfire(I have an SGS i9000,Nexus One,Galaxy Spica i5700 and LG Optimus One). Good thing the N1 has almost the exact same screen so I used that as a screen guard. Battery isnt that great. My N1 and Galaxy S lasts for almost three days on normal to heavy use. Im happy with it.
where did you buy it from?
My friend got it for me in Singapore. I sold it. Screen too small and the camera wasn't that good. Got an LG Optimus Black now.

[Q] YouTube HD playback problem

Hi guys, i just got my transformer and I love it but I have a little problem, HD videos in youtube app stutters!! t is not a connection problem, on my computer they play perfect, and anyway I let it load it the whole video to avoid connection problems.
The video still stutters, sometimes it plays full framerate, but the second after it is jerky!!
Anyone have the same problem?
Should I return it?
MP4 720p in video player just play fine...
PS: I also noticed i have some LCD backlight bleed problem... awwww man...
If hd flash is important it might not be the best solution.
Could wait and hope for a fix, but the tablet market is moving fast, always a risk companies will move on to the next gen product.
So far Tegra 2 + honeycomb seems not ideal, after all the hype?

Flash is not involved here, I am speaking of the official youtube app which should have no stuttering.

Not got that problem. Does it still stutter for you via the browser as well?
Mine used to pause a few times when watching videos in the Youtube app but this appears to have been fixed with the latest firmware update.

No yputube app does not use flash, in fact i uninstalled FlashPlayer from tablet to be sure of that.
I have the same issue. Coming from a Xoom I noticed it almost immediately. If there is stock soon, I will go to the store and have it replaced. Otherwise I might just return it. There are things I can deal with, stuttering video is not one of them.
Better to wait for Tegra 3 devices in August ?
http://www.geek.com/articles/chips/...e-tegra-3-chip-in-tablets-by-august-20110216/
Or 4 more months after that, until 2012 and get something better! or keep waiting until 2014 and get the best one in their roadmap!

Actually once it can do 1080p high profile, I could care less what is coming out since it would be the complete package. A Tegra 3 device seems like it could be the one. Definitely selling my Transformer and getting a Tegra 3 tablet when it comes out.
I think the problem is related to the youtube app, i had a trip to a local store with an Iconia A500 and played with it a bit. It had the same problem, i doubt a replacement would do the trick. i suppose an OTA update with a revised version of the youtube app or some tweak should be enough.

If thats the case then I don't mind at all, but it's something that I'd like to know *officially*. It's not something that has to be fixed immediately, but I'd like to know that the issue lies with the app and not my hardware.
Edit: But, at the same time, I didn't think many other people were having the same issue.. ?
stuttering playback was an initially known issue with honeycomb. Like someone else mentioned though, the firmware seemed to resolve that issue. Might want to make sure you have the latest and greatest version.

ya mines the US version of the 20110423.. first thing I checked.
It just crummy because my buddy loved my Xoom, especially the Youtube app (hes got a relatively large presence on youtube) and when he went to watch one of his videos (G20 Battle of Toronto) it was stuttering. It's like it will be smooth for a few seconds then get choppy . The audio never skips a beat though.
Just noticed a flash update on the market. Don't know if it'll help you or not. Looks like its now out of beta or something. I didnt really read it all before i installed it. Version 10.2.156.12.
Edit: Bah the irony. Now I'm getting the stuttery video. I wasnt before.

I know i read somewhere that asus was working with google on it. Maybe they still havent completely ironed it out yet. Remember, its still early for honeycomb...
how do you set the youtube app to 720p? i only see an option for HD

[Q] Any word on screen capture/recording apps or any solution for it?

I recently ran into a thread here:
reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1tilcf/any_word_on_screen_capturerecording_apps_or_any
and unfortunately for me, I'm running 4.3 and adb shell didn't seem to recognize screenrecord command. I check the Play Store and all the apps seem to be useless since 4.1 (some updated only to 4.2 maybe) and newer phones since Galaxy S3, Note 2, etc.
So I was wondering if there is any news. Cheers!

Hello there, regarding to your question, there really isnt a "good" capture or recording app for android yet. Most on the google play store are poor and scams. I suggest you do more research. There maybe one.

So you don't know if anyone's developing a decent recording software? I just tried a bit of SCR screen recorder but after one recording, my phone just crashes and it seems that I'm not alone in this looking at the reviews of screen recording apps. I didn't have such a problem when I was using 4.0... What changed?

Probably your phone crashed because of overload or poor ram management (screen recorders use a lot of ram) BTW what do you exactly mean by your phone crashed, did the application crash or the entire phone?

The entire phone, but my phone has problems. I've had a history of bad flashes (GS3 currently running Slim Bean with Cyanogen kernel). However, I've tried with Nexus 7 2013 as well and it's not working too pretty on that either (stock). As mentioned previously, if you look at the reviews in the screen recording apps, they will complain about the apps not working too well on 4.3 and 4.4. Slim Bean is 4.3 at the moment and I just can't wait to use 4.4's ADB screen capture. That would really solve a lot of things and really, no need for apps.

Maybe if your phone still has problems, you may want to flash the stock rom and start from there. (Often, the stock rom is the stablest) One more thing, is recording on your phone very important to you?

I'm not sure if it works on 4.3, so my suggestion might be entirely useless, but a friend of mine uses SCR Screen Recorder for his tutorials. The device we use runs 4.1.2, so like you said, it might not work. Figured I'd throw my .02 in.

I just gave up on custom ROMs and decided to just stick with the stock ROM instead. I'm just going to get rid of the TouchWiz UI. Neither Hyperdrive nor GPE 5.0 worked unfortunately. The GPE ended up with boot loops. Hyperdrive booted, but wifi + phone radio didn't work.
Recording on my phone is okay now, but I'm still looking for a good method for future reference. Well, recording was for my Galaxy S3 and I was trying to make S3 tutorials so it's far too late now. My problem with the ROM is S4, which is also somewhat dated, so recording isn't really necessary for it either. Thanks for asking.

Agg. Google Camera. Rustling Fund

As the title suggests we (at least those who N5) had to upgrade to the camera of google. For heaven's sake in this post is not to say, you no good bad etc. .. But I want to put an attention on the video. You doing various tests from yesterday to today I noticed (unfortunately) an annoying noise in the video is that in FHD 480p. The bug or problem, call it what you want, persists in all kinds of resolution that you put. Arises especially in confined spaces, such as a room or whatever at home, standing in silence and making a normal recovery. Below I have uploaded a little video to show you Yuotube on this issue. To you a review!
Edit: obviously the video was shot in 1080p, this should sentisi more noise or background noise.

When I was facing the problem on my Nexus 4, after a lot of research i found out that the transit card was creating the problem.
Every time the card came close to the rear of the phone it happened as the phone tries to communicate with the card via NFC. Turning the NFC function off solved the problem. Obviously any other card/device that works with a proximity sensor (like an access card at work) would have a similar effect. Hope it helps.:good:
