AdFree vs ROM Toolbox ad blocking - General Questions and Answers

I was trying to find out which of these two apps has better adblocking. They both replace the hostfile so its pointless to use both. Which of the two has a better hostfile, anyone know?

You should try out AdAway

How does AdAway compare to ROM Toolbox Pro for ad blocking? The very first app I installed after rooting was AdAway. I just bought ROM Toolbox Pro and was thinking of ditching AdAway since that is a function of ROM toolbox

Moved to General Q&A.

It all depends on the sources for the blacklists. I know in AdAway, you can add/change your sources, not sure about ROM Toolbox.
Get one master list of blacklist sources, and use one app for all of 'em.

4.[Xposed Module] Xad presented by XDA Senior Member DragonHunt3r, who created a module to block the Google Ads API. With this module, you can get rid of most ads seen on your device. Installation is really easy. All you need is root and the latest version of Xposed Framework.

6.lucky patcher its also a very good addblocker, but i can not put a link here because i think its forbidden, because it can do more then just blocking adds,if you wanto try it just use google
7.[Xposed module] MinMinGuard . It can completely remove both the ads inside apps and the empty space caused by those ads. Conventional ads removing apps are only able to block the ad content, but the space taken by the ad will still remain unused (black). MinMinGuard successfully removes that black space, which extends the app window and makes your user-experience better.
All you need is root and the latest version of Xposed Framework
the official thread can be found here, with a very detailed what and how to------>MinMinGuard thread<----CLICK HERE
thanks xda member sound2005 for the find
8. New Airpush Detector this will detect which application is integrated with Airpush and detailed status like smart wall ads , push icon ads, push ads status. You can click an application to open setting and uninstall that application.there are a few more airpush detectors around ,for me this one works the best
it can be downloaded at the market for more info click here---->new airpush

Problem with Rom Toolbox Pro

using official Beanstalk rom and I can no longer delete system apps with rOM Toolbox pro. I use Titanium Backup to try and it worked but I prefer rOM Toolbox pro. Anybody have any ideas.

Should be Related to Supersu.
open Supersu, tap on "Rom Toolbox", Toggle 'Access'->Grant->Deny->Grant
Just in case, Rom toolbox is not 100% compatible With ART
Thanks. Was using the Super user that was with rom. Installed SuperSU and it works.

Should/Can I have two different kernels and modules at the same time ?

I rooted my phone I have twrp recovery "closed framework", "gravity box kk" And I want to know if I can use two different xposed modules at the same time the thing I listed above help me give my phone the knock knock feature and I want to use xposed installer to get more modules and features... is it safe to do this?

your kernel completely controls your phone, it ties the cpu to tbe os and to the rest of the hardware. its impossible to run two kernels. which would control your phone? it is literally the brains mass of your phone.
I use YouTube AdAway, Pandora Patcher, App Settings, Xposed Lockscreen Wallpaper, Play Store Fixer, MinMin Guard, 30 Volume Steps, Xposed GEL Settings, Alarm Clock Plus and a few more...
So, yes.

To give a more simple answer:
- You can't have 2 kernels at the same time
- You can have multiple Xposed modules at the same time
Also, questions belong in the Q&A section of the forums.
Thank you

BTW kernels and Xposed are two completely different things. I assume by the title you're using a custom kernel, not Xposed, to use Double Tap to Wake feature. You can only install one kernel at a time. If you flash another kernel, the other one gets overwritten.
As far as Xposed goes, use as many modules as you want.

You can use multiple xposed modules. Just keep in mind xposed modules can conflict with each other if they both do the same thing.

Replacing the phone app has nothing to do with FreedomOS. The Google phone app which is what was discussed with Aroma in the same sentence. OpenGAPPS has an Aroma installer available, and within that is the Google Dialer.

I'm well aware of that, it's a side point to what's required to use custom apps like Google dialer. Is there a return to stock guide?

Sorry about that. I probably came across weird there. As far as a return to stock guide, do you want, A. to return to stock with an unlocked bootloader and TWRP with root / no root or B. completely stock with the stock OnePlus recovery, OOS 3.2.2 and locked bootloader? If you want choice A I think there's a guide somewhere in XDA and also the OnePlus forums. If you want choice B I wrote up a guide for it. Here's the link for choice B:
[GUIDE] How to Unroot your OnePlus 3 and go back completely to stock
I am also interested in using google phone app. Couldn't install it from google play. I have oxygen os Lite custom rom. I will give it a try for installing it from aroma gapps.

thanks for the link, I'd seen the full guide to unlock but hadn't seen one to go back to stock yet until you linked it here. I may do this when I have a bit of time.
unrelated, are you running just stock OOS w/ root or a specific rom? what are your thoughts on the ROMs available so far?

Right now currently I'm running stock OOS 3.2.2 with root and XPosed. This thing is a beast on the stock rom! The last couple of days were spent trying 3 different roms.
The official CM13 nightlies are pretty good and stable, but are subject to the standard nightly quirk of suddenly stopping working due to the fact that they're nightlies.
I also tried the official Resurrection Remix 5.7.2 "stable" rom. That was also pretty good but is based on the CM13 nightlies so it has the same quirks. If you try this make sure you read the OP first as there are multiple versions of this rom and it can get confusing pretty quick.
The other one I tried was the unofficial Dirty Unicorns 10.4. It worked fine except that it constantly had issues with Google sync. I tried adding, deleting and re-adding my account to no avail. It would only partially sync. That was a dealbreaker.
I tried FreedomOS 1.3.1 twice yesterday but the installer is messed up and doesn't install the apps you choose, otherwise it works. If you want that one I recommend watching the thread for an update before you go flash it.
Also forgot to mention on CM13 and Resurrection Remix there is a notification bug far worse than the OOS one. You can receive the first notification with sound, the rest don't sound off. It has been reported to the devs. All of the devs on these roms are cool and work hard to make them pretty bug free.
The rest of the roms on there I haven't looked at. Most of the rest of them are similar in features to the above ones. I was going to try Slim6 but it's in alpha and as far as I know still doesn't have DASH charge capabilities. Roms that are in Alpha are a big no no on my daily driver.
I hope I've been of some help!

thanks man, this is all pretty helpful. coming from the N5X I'd been mostly looking at freedom OS since i'd heard about the issues on other roms (mostly the photo quality stuff, but that notification issue would annoy me quite a bit) and the stock N5X android M has little customization.
That being said, in this case since OOS is great and customizeable as is I may just do the same as you. Most of the removed system apps on freedomOS don't have any effect being present, I don't mind not having layers, and i can make most of the remaining mods myself.
What xposed apps do you use if you don't mind me asking?

Don't mind at all. Here's what I have at the moment:
AdBlocker <-- blocks ads in free apps, works great and better than MinMinGuard!
FingerprintEnabler <-- Removes the Android 6.0.1 restriction on using a secondary unlock with every reboot, just lets me use the fingerprint all the time.
Hide VoLTE Icon <-- A beautiful mod. Removes the ugly VoLTE icon on 3.2.1 and higher.
Lockscreen Album Art Remover (not sure if this is working properly or not)
RootCloak (so I can use my banking app)
YouTube AdAway <-- Removes the ads in YouTube videos. I tried it on one video and it seems to work nicely.
I'm still looking at some others. But for now this is functional. I'm also using AdAway downloaded from F-Droid (an open source app installer for Android) to block ads elsewhere.

With the doze issues the OP3 has had I've been hesitant to use Greenify. I looked into Amplify and I'm still in the fence about it.

i've seen doze issues myself on my OP3 as well (pandora stop playing, and email/message notifications are delayed), so i get what you mean. I do use greenify's aggressive doze with Doze-on-the-Go enabled via ADB though.
I just get annoyed by google play services wakelocks (and i don't even have google now or location history enabled)
