[Q] Eee Pad Transformer Unsupported ?! - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering since the "New" Eee Pad Transformer was teased...
Will Asus continue to support the old Transformer or not ?
and for how long it will get Updates and stuff ??

Nobody can tell the future, so I hope your question is answered. ASUS will push updates IMO, until they can do it without issues to the Tegra2 SoC.

Sounds like a good question to email Asus... unless of course Asus is here to reply.

Not a chance. Big companies often don't converse with the community.
Look, to answer the OP, Shih (the chairman of asus) has already said the TF1 will be getting ICS update sometime in November. This is a clear indication it will continue be supported.
Tegra 2 won't be obsolete anytime soon.
That said, if you want the latest and greatest, then sell your TF1 right now and wait for the TF2. Or better yet, sell your TF1 and get an ipad 2.

Quote from debut.....
" He also let the cat out of the bag for the original Transformer and any Ice Cream Sandwich plans, when asked if ASUS would have it by the end of the year he replied "Maybe earlier than that"."

Agreed it's all but guarantied that the TF will be getting ICS and from there we leave it up to the Dev community and Roms like CM9 and such

It was in the announcement. They are going to continue to support it for 34 days after they release the TF2 except for you, they are going to stop supporting it for you 10 days before they release the TF2. Sorry, I guess they just don't like you.
/sarcasm. Nobody really knows how long they will but since they will be pushing out ICS and the TF shares its guts with the Xoom (google's reference device) Im betting we will be seeing updates as long as the Xoom does, either officially or unofficially.

Asus just tweeted (it's in another thread as well) that ICS is coming to the Transformer. Case closed.
At this point, given that Asus has been absolutely the best at updating its tablet, we have zero reason to doubt them. I think that when a company has demonstrated their commitment to supporting a device, as Asus has, we should give them the proper credit for doing so.

Yes, Asus has been great. But at some point the updates will eventually stop, that just they way it is. Even then The TF with ICS will still be useful. Not to mention most of us will move on the newer devices.
I can see my TF becoming a secondary device and getting a newer one, but that will likely be well into next year or 2013.

That's Exactly why i asked this Question...
I'm Trying keep this device for two years IF it's possible...
IF they didn't support it for long time and Especially "Tegra2" chip then the device will be almost useless...

[Q] The clock is on, Xoom gets 3.1 today, when is it our turn?

Let see how fast ASUS can turn around for updates compared to a developer device. Let's hope it's faster than HTC.
Xoom is getting 3.1 update today
http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/10/live-from-google-i-o-2011s-opening-keynote/
Yep, I found that interesting as well. Most interesting is that Verizon Xooms were specified--what does that mean for wifi-only Xooms like the one sitting on my desk at home?
This is gong to be interesting. Given how quickly Asus has been updating the TF, I'm very hopeful that we'll get 3.1 soon. That will, of course, be the measure of how well we can expect these things to be supported going forward.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
I am very optimistic that it will be soon. I don't see why there should be a delay. ASUS has been OK with updates so far and there is not that big a difference between the two devices, right? I mean, the TF also uses Android 3.0.1 with some modified kernel and widgets... But what do I know
The expanded support for USB devices is making me wish it had a usb port now.
HTC has to update Sense for every update. Asus should have a quicker turnaround. Motorola also has a custom UI. That said, if Motorola is releasing now, it means it had 3.1 in its hands for a while. I assume Asus has had it for a while, too.
Let's hope ASUS has the update in a day or so.
I regret getting rid of my Xoom... I do hope we get it soon..
We won't be able to use an Xbox 360 controller on the Transformer, though, right? Like they previewed with the xoom..

The dock has USB ports.
Google movies has HD items. I wonder if 3.1 works better with HD playback on all these Tegra 2 devices?

The fact that they have honeycomb on the TF indicates they have some sort of partnership with google since the source isn't available. Also, Asus is brand new to android. They don't make phones, and all those partners are either carriers and phone makers.
You should see my thread here about how they specifically mentioned "convertible laptop" support in Ice Cream Sandwich. They even showed a picture of the TF. I'm sure they are already working with the Asus and the TF for Ice Cream Sandwich.

[Q] Android 3.1?

Has the transformer received android 3.1 yet because it has become available for tablets like the motorola xoom
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
No, not yet. 3.1 was just announced today and is only rolling out to Verizon Xooms. For the moment, no other tablet, including the Wifi Xoom, is getting the update.
Nope. It ain't that easy, unfortunately. Each hardware manufacturer has to fine tune their device to make it compatible with the upgrade, or better phrased, to take advantage of all new features. It's not all Steve Job's happy Apple world out there where one update is good for all devices, no matter if a small or big phone

Wrong ;P iPad/iPhone GSM/iPhone CDMA/iPod Touch use different firmwares.
We have no idea how long they've had access to the 3.1 code or what their process is for testing updates. If they (ASUS) are really proactive about updating, I would think that it would be at least 30 days until we see or hear about an update for the Transformer. If it's sooner, I'll be thrilled.
I highly doubt we'll be getting it this year even. Asus's main priority is (or should be) getting these devices stocked and sold as soon as possible because they'll be taking a huge hit once the Galaxy Tabs become available. They're not even thinking about fixing/upgrading the software.

Software developement and production are handled by different groups. One wouldn't impact the other. They can work on getting software ready then deliver it via OTA update.
If Asus doesn't provide the update within a month, or announces soon that that they're working on it and it will be out soon, this will be going up for sale for either the Xoom (again) or the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Yep, same here. I'll wait for something else...
And they had better be working on updates, at least fixing the 60%+ of people who can't use their dock doorstops...
Bugs are part of computers, and we are early adopters but I am not very pleased about not being able to use it at all right now...

LMAO, exactly what I was thinking. I don't give a crap what my marketing/production team is doing, I'm still a code-monkey and would want to be proactive to fix all the found bugs in my current software.
I think Asus will release Android 3.1 for the Transformer in the next 2 to 3 weeks. It would make sense that they have the code already as a manufacturer, and they would want to stay ahead of the Galaxy tab 10.1 which seems like will be realease with 3.1 installed.
Just my opinion,

Wow. Android 3.1 was just announced this morning and already people are threatening to buy something else if Asus doesn't release the update. Yeesh.

Let them get the current bugs squashed, especially w/ the keyboard dock, then let's worry about getting 3.1.
Given the demand for the TF, I would think that they would have an interest in keeping it at the top of the heap for as long as possible - i.e. get it updated w/ the latest iteration of HC as quickly as possible.
Of COURSE they'll want to get updated as soon as possible. Why wouldn't they? I swear, people are getting more and more ridiculous every day. In every forum for every product, if a company doesn't announce something within 15 minutes of someone demanding it, people start pulling out the tar and feathers.
I mean, seriously, why WOULDN'T Asus update the Transformer? What reason do we have for believing they won't? The only examples we have of what Asus might do with this product has been provided by the two updates they've issued in about a month, the presence of Asus personnel on this very forum helping people out with an unfortunate glitch with the last update, issuing a fixed update for manual install on their Web site within days of the glitch being identified (which required working on it over the weekend), and in general communicating better than I've seen any other Android manufacturer communicate in recent memory.
I say, if we haven't heard about an update to 3.1 within 30 days of today, then we'd have some reason to complain and wonder when we'll get one. But a few hours after it was announced by Google? Seriously?
Ye gads, people, get lives, will you?
(Rant over.)
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Yes, because the same three guys that developed the Tablet are the same 3 guys that fullfill orders and then package them and ship them!
Why are people do so willing to (threaten to) sell their Transformer if there's no announcement? How long till the other tablets get 3.1. You know, the old Samsung Tab, the G-Slate, the Viewsonic GTablet, etc. Oh that's right... nobody knows.

ICS and Transformer?

Is there anything official on whether or not the Transformer will get the 4.0 OS update when/if it is released in the next couple of months?
If not official what is the general consensus?
Thanks!
You sounded so much more "positive" in your other post.
That's because I'm a freaking newbie here! I also read a link since then in the other post where it looks like Google is pretty much requiring 18 months for updates on Android devices so I'll say it here to since no one else will... The answer is YES!
One thing is for sure: if you root your TF, you'll have ICS.
I thought that it was only required to be a part of that new alliance or whatever it's called. Asus isn't part of that alliance is it? However, all that aside, I would be shocked if we didn't get it. Asus has been the best at getting updates out of any manufacturer that I've seen so far.

Not much is known about ICS, other than that it is a combination of Honeycomb and Gingerbread. The Nexus Prime is coming out soon, which will be the first ICS device, so we can only wait.
i'd be willing to put money on Asus upgrading to ice cream sandwich. They seem pretty committed to the transformer and have been quick to bring out updates. The fact the latest update gave us the choice to change the mouse cursor on the dock (after many complaints) shows they're paying attention to what people are saying.

With TFI getting dead last attention from ASUS as of late, they better be optimizing

they better be optimizing the hell out of Jelly Bean in prep for a massive promotion of the TFI's Android 4.1 rollout.
I personally feel ASUS have neglected the Infinity tablet worse than they did when their Transformer Prime was their most newest Transformer.
I've not seen a single update notification from them since I got this tablet on July 30th, and it's now September 8.
Do they still have that facebook page they use to respond to?
There hasn't been any new news from Googling the Transformer Infinity (besides it's launches in Europe and Australia) since it's reviews and launch reports that were made in June and July.
I know Google intentions were to boast it's Nexus 7 tablet, but wouldn't it made since to keep your more premium tablet running your software on the same level of promotion?
Key: TFI = Transformer Infinity
Havent even seen Gary Keys set foot in this forum even to say hi. Prime is discontinued Gary move on to the Infinity forum and save the tablet by giving insights to what is up. The infinity still has bugs that needs terminating and this is suppose to be the high end of transformers. Its suppose to get some high end service... Right? Hehehe..

Gary Key was trying to cover and hide the issues with the Prime and save Asus's reputation. He is in marketing, not engineering. That was all a big joke. The Infinity doesn't have near the issues the Prime had so Gary wont come over here unless the media starts reporting negatively on the Infinity. I will still never forget Gary Key saying in that interview that the Serial Number Unknown issues were fixed server side when there were dozens of people on these forums who still had the problem and the only fix was to send in your tablet and get a replacement. He flat out lied and I'm glad he isn't around.

why do people make these threads? If you are not happy with the device, exchange it for something else. Why keep buying from a company, whos reputation you don't like? They didnt force us to buy their products. Yes, there are bugs. Give them time to fix everything. They issue a fix today, and then new bugs show up tomorrow, do you expect them to release another update the next day? I'm sure people are hard at work trying to rectify all of the issues. And yes, they still have the FB page, and announced on there several times that JB would be coming this month. People just need to have patience. Every time some type of update gets announced, people start making threads asking when will we get them. technology is not something that can be created in a matter of minutes.
My Infinity is not perfect. But i can be patient and have confidence that Asus will fix the issues. Why wouldnt they? How can they just leave us with messed up devices, and then come out with new products? Who will buy them, given they got over us on the first time? Contact ASUS and voice your complaints. It really doesnt help posting them here.

Android 4.1 - TF700

Good Day,
Official Press Statement -
Dear Valued ASUS Customers,
We are pleased to announce that we will soon be rolling out a major software update for both the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity (TF700) and ASUS Transformer Pad Prime (TF201), which will bring Android™ 4.1, Jelly Bean to the devices. We always strive to deliver the latest updates for our customers – we hope you enjoy it.
Thank you for your continued support.
North American Update -
For those users in the US and Canada, the 10.4.4.14.1 Release is held.
North American Update - 9/27/2012
For those users in the US and Canada, the 10.4.4.16 Release should be available early next week. A couple of applications that were recently updated (Facebook 1.9.10 on 9/20 as one example) required a last minute firmware update for the keyboard to operate correctly in the "Comment" area with Android 4.1. Sorry about the delay but this fix needed to be implemented before release.
North American Update -
The JB update will be rolling out today. I highly recommend doing a factory reset on ICS, reboot, load the JB update, shutdown, and then start. It will offer the best performance compared to a straight update to JB, especially if you have a lot of apps or custom software loaded. Yes, it is a pain but it makes a real difference in the operation of the unit. Also, if you have rooted the unit I would recommend going back to a stock ICS load before updating. If you are unlocked, the JB update will not be available OTA.
In regards to applications, we have run through the top 500 apps on Play and there are a few applications that might only run in portrait mode or might white screen (Bike Race Free). Google is working with the developers on JB updates now. Also, several Google Apps will recommend an update (updates post 9/20) and we suggest accepting these for best performance.

Since the 9.4.5.30 update it's never a good day anymore for me. Why the #@$! did you have to add signature checks to the bootloader, even on unlocked devices, locking us out from flashing any bootloader we want, and therefore also locking us out from getting nvflash.
Why? Can you answer this question, Gary Key?
You yourself have posted in another thread that you want to give us nvflash access ("but it wasn't ASUS's decision"), why then lock us out when someone do provide a way?
This news kinda makes me wish I hadn't brought my Tf700 back to best buy.

WARNING: READ THIS NOW:
When Asus released their official Jelly Bean 4.1 update for the TF300, recoveries and ROMs based on ICS kernels were unable to boot. (I believe that this may be due to Trusted Platform). Most likely we'll see a repeat of this problem on the TF700 and TF201. Do not panic. I'll update TWRP as soon as possible to use updated kernels. Most likely we won't get kernel source right away so that means that JB users will not be able to back up and restore boot until we get the new kernel source. If you mess around with your recovery on your TF700 after installing JB you may end up soft-bricking your tablet. If you have nvflash access you will be able to fix it, but without nvflash you may end up with a brick that can only be fixed by Asus. You have been warned.
P.S. Might be a good idea to add this to the original post.
